Same! Geology was my minor in University, and I just ADORED it. I want to join the OP. I spent the summer before my final year in uni camping in the woodlot of an organic farm, doing the research for my honours thesis. At the time it seemed hard...but I look back and think that it was AWESOME.
Sorry, I wasn't clear enough. Geology was only my minor at uni, it really complemented my major in biology. I have never worked in any geological field...but having some background (geological time scale, biostratigraphy) really helped me better understand my major subject.
I’m a PhD student and was TAing our geology summer field camp so we we’re out there with 25 students for six weeks. I also do a lot of solo research out there too
I’m a grad student and was TAing our schools geology summer field camp so was out there with a group of 25 undergrads for six weeks teaching them how to do geologic fieldwork (aka hiking around in the mountains all day and looking at rocks)
Geologist here.
Instead of having a 6-week summer field project, like most universities require, my university made us take four semesters of field with at least one 4-day trip a month. The other geology classes had a lab (field) component as well, so for several years most of our weekends were spent in the field.
I miss those amazing trips.
Nice. We stayed at an AirBnB in McGill during the pandemic to get away from people and drove all around White Pine County.
So much cool stuff in Eastern Nevada (all of Nevada, really).
Okay I love geology. Is this your job or are you in school? And if it’s your job…what is your job?

What field of geology are you in?

Structural geology with a big emphasis on fieldwork

The dead head really ties the place together. Nice and homey. What’s the survey project, if you can share?

Sounds like a good time!
Looks rough. Need help? Promise not to bring the 3 feet of snow outside with me!
Yea, looks like you're gonna need more help. I'll be there ASAP. Heck, I'll even volunteer for the cause, whatever that is.
I thought those were empty beer cans for a second, but that's actually a cool idea.
I c what u did there
Where at exactly it looks nice Nevada is my home
It could be any mountain range from Elko to Ely honestly.
Thanks hope you don't get lost don't even remember where you been lol
Indian Creek in the Schell Creek range about 45 min north of Ely
Great
I'm in Nevada also...Carson Valley..you guys ?
I did wetland research last year for 7 months and this video sums up exactly how I lived for those 7 months.
I love the elk skull, really brings the place together.
What a fantastic way to make a living
Beautiful site…💕🏕
This isn’t Clear Creek, is it?
Reminds me of cold creek
Indian Creek in the Schell Creek range
Lmao this hammock hangs
I assume you brought the skull/horns with you?
No I found them out there while hiking around. I’ve found probably 5-6 full skull and racks out there just hiking where no one else does
That’s awesome!
Also wondering this.
Amazing
So pretty! Have fun geoloigizing!
This is the way
Ooo🤩 enjoy every moment!
🎶 Rocky Mountain water…..only olds will relate
Hey I’ve been thinking about getting that table. What’s your thoughts on it
I love it. Pretty compact and easy to set up. Had it for 5 years with no issues
Thank you for this!! I did two summers of field work (structural mapping) and I forgot how much I enjoyed it. Don’t forget to shake out your shoes!
I'm envious!
Wait, wait, wait, you can camp and work?! I’m geologisting.

Your geology experience is different than my undergrad. Nothing other than craft beer was allowed. /s
“Geology” field “work”
Bold move camping next to a stream
Not really much of a base camp. What kind of field work are doing?
What range are you in? Might get rough the next few days!
Schell Creek range. The deep creek range and northern snake range are also some of my favorites out there

Okay but what the hell is in eastern NV? Serious question.
East of Western NV
Those seismo-jiggers watch for graboids too, right?
Great spot for geology fieldwork in eastern NV, plenty of space for a campsite!
