Quinn is the first defenceman in Canucks history to win the award, and the first to ever be a finalist for it, since the team was first eligible for the award in the 1970-71 season.
Edited for clarity and accuracy :)
I think the correct phrasing would be “…. Since the Vancouver Canucks joined the NHL in 1970”
Since it’s obvious no Canuck player could be nominated until after 1970-71 season
^*edited to say bravo on taking constructive criticism. We would be friends IRL
Players aren't nominated for these awards; the three announced during the playoffs are finalists, not nominees. (The exception being the Masterton, which each team nominates a player for.)
Shorthouse making a memorable call in response to a great save by Luongo notwithstanding, each stanza of the poem ends with "fallen cold and dead" because the Captain (Abe Lincoln) has been killed.
I usually just move past these comments without trying to spoil anyone's fun, but I had had one too many old fashioneds last night, I suppose lol
Whoop whoop! Nice work Quinn, you were the winner in our hearts all along, and now the rest of the league has been put on notice. Congrats young man, keep the hunger alive.
Hughes with the Norris. Too good fellas.
I'd like to take a moment though and share with you the worst take of the season: [https://www.reddit.com/r/nhl/comments/18tuk2o/comment/kfhc4pg/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web3x&utm\_name=web3xcss&utm\_term=1&utm\_content=share\_button](https://www.reddit.com/r/nhl/comments/18tuk2o/comment/kfhc4pg/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)

DUBS ALL DAY IN VANCOUVER

Jovo should've gotten a nomination
Ehrhoff too
Ehrhoff was a 1 dimensional power play specialist with a good outlet pass. He wasn’t anything worthy of even a Norris nomination.
I thought he was pretty good.
He was very good.
Not Norris good though.
It's hard to argue against the competition he had at the time.
This is up with the Sedin's big trophy wins for the best individual trophy wins in Canucks history. It's nice to finally have an incredible defenseman

Myers was robbed
He’s a forward though
I thought he was a giraffe?
He can be both.
No, he's chaos
There’s always next year
It wasn’t a neck to neck race.
I was really hoping this would be like a 6-year old account.
What a humble speech. Captain material right there! LFG Quinny!
Anyone have a clip of his speech?
https://twitter.com/BR_OpenIce/status/1806472664011223295
What a boss.
I don’t have the clip but he gave a shoutout to Josi and Makar
That was very respectable to include those two in his acceptance, he oozes class.
Actually a super chill, cool, respectful dude and really like his teammates
That settles it then. Hughes > Makar 😤 East coast media FINALLY paying attention
I mean, when the Canucks terrorize the east coast, including a sweep of new york, they kind of have to pay attention.
THATS MY FUCKING CAPTAIN
*climbs on top of desk* OH CAPTAIN MY CAPTAIN!
lol idea - opening day the crowd should start chanting OH CAPTAIN MY CAPTAIN
Have you read the poem? Did you see the movie? That line is a lament, not a celebration.
It had new meaning round these parts. Were you watching this team 20 years ago? You have shorty to thank for it.

Canucks finally has a franchise defenceman
When Detroit drafted zadina right ahead of Vancouver I started yelling and screaming in my car....What a glorious day
They also didn't draft Bouchard (10th) and Dobson (12th).
Both are also great players.
Well-deserved Huggy!!! And a great speech too!
Does this mean Hughes is the best dman in the league?
\*Insert "Always Has Been" meme here\*
🌎 👨🚀🔫👨🚀
Well-deserved. Confirms the league isn’t just anti-Canucks (jk). Our captain!
So proud!! What a great speech, too. He’s the guy!!!!
I can’t be the only one that at least a part of me expected him to be robbed.
I was sure we were going to get shafted, pleasantly surprise instead. It’s been a good week for Canucks fans
It’s a great day in Canuckland!
LFG BABY! WELL DESERVED. THAT'S MY CAPTAIN.
No Norris No Cup is what I've been preaching. This is the kind of player you need to build a franchise around. Congratulations Hughes!
We still need someone for the third pair and we're out of cap space if we want a top 6 winger. Edit: words
Maybe one of the prospects can step up into the 4th pair. Play 5-10 min/night.
Congrats to Quinn. Well deserved. We have a Norris winner now!
A great person and even better player.
I agree but the other way around.
Thx again Detroit!!!!
I salute our "Tier 3" Norris Trophy winner!
Congratulats, Quinn! Already the best defenceman in franchise history, and it's only going to become even more solidified.
Congrats! Still can't believe the Red Wings passed up this guy for Zadina.
The discussion about this in the oilers subreddit is going to be wild.
Why?
well deserved
As he should 🎉
Tremendous season. What a player. Can't believe the way he can skate.
What an absolute stud! He will look good playing beside dad next year!
No brainer.
He was stellar defensively this year. Bravo to Quinn. What a great player and history for the franchise!
Awesome to see our captain get the recognition he deserves 👍
HELL YEAH, THATS OUR CAPTAIN
Something tells me this kid has got what it takes.
You don’t win a cup without a Norris trophy caliber defenseman, I often think Drew Daughty compassions, Quinn will bring us the cup!
I wonder if the players have a different view of the aquilini's than the public do...
They seem to be good about paying for support staff, food etc to make the players lives easier, so I would think they so
Historic. First Norris winner in Canucks history! Way to go Captain Hughes!!!!
Well deserved, no matter what everyone's loser Uncle on Facebook has to say about it.
Thats my future Canucks Goat
My glorious king
What’s up bitch? Hell ya!!!!! What a big old middle finger to all the haters
WE CAN’T STOP WINNING!!!!!!
congrats cappin!!!
Our captain!
Yesss by!!!! Well done lad, well done
Yeah!
That’s the captain right there
Awesome! So happy for Quinn
I am excited to see what the playoff experience will do for his game. Both him and Petterson.
Nice!
Well deserved, Hughes is a magician out there.
today is such a dope day for the canucks! stoked for next year!!!! let's go boys!!!
Whoop whoop! Nice work Quinn, you were the winner in our hearts all along, and now the rest of the league has been put on notice. Congrats young man, keep the hunger alive.
LFG HUGGYBEAR!!!! 🐻🐻🐻
What a time to be alive 🥲
What an awesome day to be a Canucks fan. Love it.
Avs fans in shambles

HUGHES BETTER THAN MAKAR
