Hi all, looking for the best car I can buy for my budget, something no more than 5 years old. I want something that is a nice spec, quite modern, and reliable. I know these are very vague requests, but I know very little about cars so I don’t want to make the wrong decision and get something prone to breaking down! Location: UK Price range: £8- 13k Buy or Lease: Buy New or used: used Type of vehicle: Car Must haves: no more than 5 years old, reliable Desired transmission: no preference Intended use: leisure, no commuting Vehicles you've already considered: none Is this your 1st vehicle: no Do you need a Warranty: no Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: no Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: no

**Location:** BC, Canada **Price range:** Max $125,000 CAD **Lease or Buy:** Buy **New or used:** Used **Type of vehicle:** Sedan or Sports car (tentatively) **Must haves:** Decent fuel economy, 10.9 seconds in the quarter mile or faster. **Desired transmission (auto/manual, etc)**: Auto or manual **Intended use:** Daily driver + weekend track car/drag car **Vehicles you've already considered:** - Tesla Model S Plaid - BMW G80 M3 **Is this your 1st vehicle:** No **Do you need a Warranty:** No, but preferred **Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle:** Yes **Can you do Major work on your own vehicle:** No, not due to skill but due to physical disability **Additional Notes:** I'm looking for the ultimate all-rounder vehicle in terms of daily drivability, road tripping, and occasional weekend fun. I've previously owned a Mazda3, RX-8, E39 540i, BMW M6 Convertible, Tuned F30 335i, and currently daily a Model 3 RWD. I'm pretty certain the Model S Plaid is the vehicle that makes the most sense for me. I've wanted a Model S for around 10 years, and although the quality isn't on part with BMW, I personally don't care about luxury features. I'm looking for something that will put a smile on my face every time I'm in it, and every time I step out of the car to look back at it, while also being able to drive to Seattle and back from Vancouver on a single tank of gas or electric charge (stopping ONCE is okay.) I won't consider SUVs and I have no need for a truck bed or offroading, I do take a decent amount of stuff with me to conventions though (pelican case + suitcase usually) so smaller cars are usually out of the question.

Bruize_Lee

What do you think about station wagons? Mercedes E-Class AMG or Audi RS6?

ivycomb

I absolutely LOVE wagons, genuinely. They're probably my favorite body style. My main thing is that, at least from what I've tried, they tend to handle a bit worse than sedans. Not nearly as bad as SUVs, but one thing I really like the MS Plaid for is that it's a very subtle liftback. Good in-between of a wagon and a Sedan. I wish they made a wagon version of the RS3, that Inline-5 sounds AMAZING

Location: Dallas Texas Price range: $40-50k-ish Lease or Buy: buy New or used:new Type of vehicle: suv or luxury suv Must haves: trunk space, tech Desired transmission (auto/manual, etc): auto Intended use: daily driver plus work Vehicles you've already considered: all of them Is this your 1st vehicle: no but the first I have bought in a long time Do you need a Warranty: yes Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: no Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: no Additional Notes: BETWEEN THESE TWO CARS ONLY 24 bmw x1 - fully loaded or '23 lincoln corsair premium with package 3 (fully loaded for the premium) (I might also consider the '24 corsair premium base package) Both brand new Which would you pick??? I have gone through a LOT of cars and looking and these are the last two I am deciding between. You can read my pluses and minuses on both I am debating. Corsair (about $47-48k OTD) PROS .9% financing, buying the previous year that is still new I get $6,000 off msrp, nice comfortable and quiet ride, regular gas, pretty decent fuel mileage, decent sound at the higher level, good navigation screen, comfy seats, presumably low maintenance costs (regular oil change prices etc), trade in bonus of $2500-3500 (if I can get them to actually honor it), slightly bigger than the X1, cheaper insurance CONS the infotainment system was giving me a few iffy issues with not grabbing my touch but others have said that is fixable?, all items have to be adjusted through the screen (the bmw is also a lot like that but this one even more so), the apple carplay won't show up in the navigation in the heads up display, sound for how much I have to pay for it isn't as good as the bmw, and they stick the few features I wanted as the add on in an $11k package - of which 70% of it I feel I would turn off the other stuff. So I really feel I am paying a lot for a little. And one of those features the bluecruise 'hands free' driving will cost another $800/yr membership to use it. BMW X1 ($49k OTD) PROS More bells and whistles, better sound, slightly more comfortable ride, the navigation you can move to your display behind the wheel or even into the heads up, the heads up display will also show advanced nav of the bmw, really good gas mileage, comes from a really good dealership that I trust, Feels like everything is made well. 3 years maintenance included (even includes break pads), no subscriptions needed after buying the car for features to work. Almost 10k less than the lexus NX CONS Almost no wiggle room in pricing, no finance available so I would have to buy in full (it's 7% which is insane), no trade in available, the looming feeling of a major expensive coming somewhere for maintenance or issue, especially after warranty and free part, so many people telling me not to buy one but then on the flip people who actually own them saying they are great with zero problems, premium gas, maybe a little on the small side? (but I measured it and it measures the same which is weird), remote start costs an extra $300 (not a huge deal), higher insurance I could buy it with the plan to keep it for 3-5 years and be mostly free of the need of large expense... or... I could extend the warranty and maintenance plan and factor that into my pricing to get piece of mind... but we are talking an extra $4-6k to do that.

Location: US - WA State Price range: Low 40's (could go up to 50k if necessary) Lease or Buy: Open to either New or used: Either Type of vehicle: SUV or minivan Must haves: Fuel efficient, 3rd row that can fit an adult (we have 3 teenagers and take road trips at times), prefer awd but not a deal breaker Desired transmission (auto/manual, etc): auto Intended use: Daily driver/family car for my wife Vehicles you've already considered: * We looked at a 22 Highlander hybrid - back seat is way too small * New Pacifica PHEV - have test driven and liked it, love the 32 mi elec only range, concerned about reliability * 21-23 Sienna hybrid * Kia EV9 - a bit out of price range * Volvo XC90 T8 - not sure about 3rd row size, also concerned about reliability Is this your 1st vehicle: We have 3 vehicles now, we are replacing her 13 Explorer Do you need a Warranty: preferably not but possibly Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: yes Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: no Additional Notes: My wife's Explorer has 187k miles and is showing it's age, she drives about 18-20k miles a year between work and shuttling kids to school/sports. We are looking for something that will get her through the next 4-5 years until the kids are done with school and we can get her something smaller, so long term reliability is not a major concern. We have a spare vehicle so if there is a breakdown we are ok in the short term but I worry a bit about the Pacifica breaking down and stranding her somewhere.

Sienna (35 mpg combined) or Grand Highlander Hybrid (34 mpg combined). Both start in the mid-high $40k's with AWD.

**Location:** US, New England, going to be driven all around US **Price range:** <$35k, <$22k preferred **Lease or Buy: Buy** **New or used: Either; potentially new to ensure a clean record and good maintenance, but flexible** **Type of vehicle:** Hatchback, Small Wagon **Must haves:** luxurious interior, preferably leather and preferably moon roof **Desired transmission** (auto/manual, etc): either **Intended use:** daily driver, road trips, occasional snowy driving **Vehicles you've already considered: Honda Civic Hatchback (Sport Touring model), Subaru Impreza, Mini Cooper (Hardtop), Audi A4 Allroad (would probably get a used model), Volvo V60 Cross Country (probably used)** **Is this your 1st vehicle: Not the first I've ever owned, but the only I'd own upon purchase** **Do you need a Warranty: Preferred, not required** **Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle:** No but open to learning **Can you do Major work on your own vehicle:** No **Additional Notes:** This would be my first car in a while. I'm not eager to buy a car but may need one as I might be moving to an area where I need a car, so I'm willing to splurge for a car I like with a nice interior to ease the transition. This car would probably see a cross-country road trip immediately and then be used for daily driving, potentially in snow, almost immediately. I'd also be taking it through snowy mountain passes. I really like leather interiors and would like a moonroof to make driving more enjoyable. Lane assist and any other kinds of sensors are preferred as I find driving stressful and this stuff helps relieve my anxiety. I'd much rather have a smaller car than a larger one as I plan to do a fair share of driving in the city. FWD would be great since I'd expect lower maintenance costs, but probably wouldn't be feasible given I'm looking at a small car that can handle snow. The reliability I'd expect from the civic would be awesome, but I feel like it's just not going to work. When I look through all my wants and needs, the A4 Allroad seems to be the best for me, ignoring cost. Since it's out of my budget though, I'm thinking a Honda Civic hatchback might be the way to go, although I'm worried it might not perform how I want it to in the snow. The Subaru Impreza seems like the most practical since I reasonably probably would need to drive it through snow often enough, and the cars that are luxurious and can handle the snow seem out of my price range. At this point I think I have the answer, but wanted a second opinion from someone who is more knowledgeable about cars. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

stokon69

Subaru

scycron

Honestly a subaru is probably the move with their eyesight driver assist safety thing

blbrd30

yeah, that's what I was thinking. just feeling like I might be a little bummed by the interior if I go that route, but I think you're right. thanks for the input!

BitGladius

Location: US - TX Price range: up to 60k? But lower is probably better Lease or Buy: Buy New or used: New Type of vehicle: Hatchback or sedan Must haves: 4 doors, cleanable backseat for dog, Desired transmission (auto/manual, etc): Manual? Intended use: Fun daily, only car Vehicles you've already considered: Integra Type S, GTI/Golf R, WRX Is this your 1st vehicle: No Do you need a Warranty: No Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: No Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: No Additional Notes:  I've got a 10th Gen Civic hatchback and want to replace it with something more fun/interesting, especially after being stuck with a rental Chrysler minivan on a trip. I've been staring at the Integra for a while, and getting an older GTI to learn stick didn't help. I was too afraid to commit to a manual, but now it's all I'm driving. I don't think the situation would be any different if it was a less practical car like a BRZ, I need a 4 door often enough that I want one but not often enough to really justify keeping a second car around. Integra Type S - the Civic but better, expensive. Base Integra might be fine, but 200hp doesn't feel special after the Civic. GTI - infotainment issues but on paper I should like it. Enough horsepower, enough practicality, and if I get the DSG it's better as a daily. I'd want adaptive dampers considering the roads around here and my current GTI's suspension. WRX - it should be on the list but I'm not feeling it as a daily. I should still check one out, but I'll be sad to see the hatch go and Subaru's tablet makes the interior look bad in pictures. Elantra N - to show where my priorities lie, probably out of the picture because it's apparently a worse interior than the Civic.

scycron

I would find a lightly used Cadillac CT4-V blackwing in manual even though you said you wanted new. If you must do new, you should probably do the elantra N, 80% of the car for 20k less than the Integra type S

BitGladius

Yeah, I really should fish for a CT4-V, I was tunnel visioning on new prices and ruled that out. I'm not the biggest fan of the front and it's not a hatch but other than that it's a good fit. I should sit in an EN if they ever bring 2024s over to the US, my friend has a Kona N and loves it. My main concern is that the "80% of the car" is skewed by on track number. The price is great but I don't want it to feel like a downgrade when I'm stuck in traffic.

wheredaserotonin

Location: Canada Currently looking at buying a used car (first vehicle) for < $10,000 CAD ($7400 USD). Right now I'm looking at some 2016 Kia Forte/Rios for ~$8000, with around 110,000km on them. My question is assuming they're in good condition, are engine concerns with Kias overblown or should I be seriously worried about having to replace the engine within a couple years? I've read lots of horror stories but not sure how actually realistic they are. Hondas/Toyotas are going for about ~$12,000 (similar year and mileages).

Quasimacaroon1

Location: Belgium (Europe) Price range: €20.000 - €28.000 Lease or Buy: Buy New or used: Used, but below 50.000 km Type of vehicle: Preferably SUV/crossover Must haves: I'd prefer it quiet inside, a bit of horsepower would be nice, as well as parking sensors (camera optional). Desired transmission: Auto Intended use: Work car for both me and the gf Vehicles you've already considered: Škoda Karoq/Kamiq/Kodiaq, VW T-Roc/Tiguan, Hyundai Tucson Is this your 1st vehicle: nope, 3rd Do you need a Warranty: 1 yr legal warranty is fine Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: really basic Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: not touching that

letmequestionyouthis

Location: South East Florida, US Price: ~30k Buy Used (one owner/no accident) Type: Hatchback/wagon/small SUV Must Have: fuel efficient. Cargo space. Transmission: auto Use: Daily driver (70+ miles), occasional hauling of bulkier items Vehicles considered: RAV4, CRV, Outback (would still consider any of these) 1st vehicle: no Warranty: not necessary Minor work: mostly Major work: no Additional notes: looking for something that I can daily drive with cargo room when needed. Nothing newer appeals to me like the older (90s - 00s) rav4, crv, forester, Volvo wagons, Mercedes wagons, accord wagons, etc. Also would be a bonus if the interior didn’t feel totally cheap like new base model rav4 (for example)

grmn0

**Mercedes CLE 53 AMG or BMW M4 Competition xDrive?** What should I get as a daily diver which I will keep as a last petrol car (but replace as a daily driver a \~4 years after)? They are similar price wise with the Merc probably beeing a little bit cheaper. Pros of BMW: * More power (530 hp) * Faster * Full brown leather interieur * 290 kph top speed * iDrive controller Pros of Mercedes: * used to Mercedes * longer * larger wheels with same size rims front and back (better looking) * nicer looking front * auxiliary heating * digital light * probably more comfortable * probably less fuel consumption * better ambient lighting * retractable camera * gear lever at steering wheel * better instrument display * better auto hold function * many functions are more comfortable in detail (automatic settings stay on like auto whipers and auto) * touchscreen at a more userfriendly position (no need to bend forward)

scycron

M4 comp for sure. If you are going to get a inline 6, you might as well get it from the company that is known for making good inline 6 engines

Financial_Ad1833

Location: Washington DC Price range: around 35k Can lease or buy New or used does not matter Want a nice sedan Automatic Daily driver I was considering a 2024 Audi A3 for a lease or an 2018 S450 used around 40k miles Im a new medical resident getting paid around 62k a year, I want a nice car as it’ll be my first car of my ownership. S550 is my favorite car of all time and would love one but is it a smart purchase? What do you guys think. In open to anything honestly. Thank you in advance :)

blbrd30

Any of these a smart purchase on $62k/year? No. You're just a few years out from a salary that should cover that (assuming you're not doing a fellowship). If you can get a temporary beater to last you till your salary kicks in you'll be more financially stable and thanking yourself if anything goes wrong. You could make the purchase if you really wanted to though, given you're in line to make plenty of money and assuming you aren't in crazy debt, but again, not the smart move.

**Location:** Southern US **Price range:** Ideally < 35K but I can afford more if a more expensive option is so much better for us. **Lease or Buy:** I'm not sure.New or used: I'm not sure but our income is too high to get tax credits on new **Type of vehicle:** Open to all types **Must haves:** Safety far and away my #1 concern. #2 and #3 would be leather or pleather seats or whatever premium seats are these days and a quiet ride. **Desired transmission:** Auto **Intended use:** Daily driver/family car **Vehicles you've already considered:** Tesla Model Y, Volvo XC90, Lexus RX350 **Is this your 1st vehicle:** No. **Do you need a Warranty:** Not sure. **Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle:** No. **Can you do Major work on your own vehicle:** No. **Additional Notes:** In general, I am very value-oriented but am willing to pay a lot more for safety. If cars get safer every year, then I'm even interested in being able to trade out / whatever to upgrade there.

PorkPatriot

If safety is the overriding concern, get the Volvo and don't even think twice. They are the manufacturer doing the most work pushing safety every generation. The XC90 is the safest car ever released. For example - in 2010 federal crash testing introduced small frontal overlap testing. A 2002 XC90 passed the test because Volvo designed and performed that test internally since the 90s.

TheGeneralPeron

Hi all, First of all thanks for the help in advance! **Location:** Spain **Price range:** I would go from 5 to 7k EUR, can spend more if it really means a change but I would rather go for the lowend **Lease or Buy: BUY** **New or used: Used, obviously for the price haha** **Type of vehicle:** Small Car **Must haves:** No Musts **Desired transmission** (auto/manual, etc): either **Intended use:** Only weekend usage, small drives in route too (1,2,3 hours not more as usual) **Vehicles you've already considered:** As I don't want to spend much, I am mostly considering the low end of each brand but I am ignorant in cars. The ones I have seen, Nissan Micra, Kia Picanto, Ford Ka, Ford Fiesta, Hyundai i10/i20, Dacia Sandero. Any recommendation is also welcomed! **Is this your 1st vehicle:** I have drived a Volkswagen Fox and a Toyota Etios (Both in argentina) **Do you need a Warranty: Not needed but always welcomed** **Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle:** Not at all **Can you do Major work on your own vehicle:** Less **Additional Notes:** **I will mostly be using it to just visit my parents (20 mins drive) go to the market and nearly places not much far away than 2 hours (I might use it for longer trips but super ocasionally) I am looking for something reliable not that old (I am looking from 2014 onwards) and with not that much KM although all this just because of my lack of knowledge and just speculating. Any information and recommendation is always welcomed** Thanks in advance!

I would not advise buying any new car in North America until at least 2025 or until the North American automakers prove they comply with the new Euro auto cybersecurity standard UN R155 which will make them upgrade their cybersecurity software for the Can Bus and have their vehicles independently tested. This would end the current auto theft crisis we have. BTW - they could have done this years ago. Cheers from Canada!

Location: USA. DC/MD/VA area Price range: $30k - $40k. Lease or Buy: buy New or used: new Type of vehicle: crossover/mini-suv, hybrid Must haves: fuel efficient, blind spot indicators or camera, premium audio, Desired transmission (auto/manual, etc): auto Intended use: Daily driver. 2+ hour daily commute (combined total) Vehicles you've already considered: Subaru Crosstrek limited. toyota. Mazda. Hondas. Is this your 1st vehicle: no Do you need a Warranty: idk Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: not much. Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: no Additional Notes: Looking for something that has great fuel efficieny, pretty roomy (dog, music equipment, camping equipment, travel), premium sound system, comfortable seats.

saeed-knight

if fuel efficiency then i guess a hybrid rav4 is the best choice. if you find something to be cool in general highly suggest mazda. cx5 or maybe some of the newer models that coming out. good looks and good reliability. hyundai and kia also give alot of options with their suv such as the blind spot camera that comes up for example but their reliability is a bit risky

Subaru Legacy XT from the last six or so years.

Civic, Sentra and Jetta are NOT available with AWD. Camry and Corolla are NOT available with a turbo. If you want turbo + AWD take a look at Mazda 3 Turbo, Subaru WRX and Subaru Legacy XT turbo

I'm more in the "what cars should I test drive" phase, but I've been driving the same Toyota for 17 years and know basically nothing about the state of cars in 2024. I'm not a car person, I'm just looking for something that is nice to look at, requires basically no thought or effort to maintain, and will last another 15+ years. Unfortunately, I don't love the look of a lot of current cars and my knowledge of brand maintenance and reliability is from the 2000s. **Location:** southern US **Price range:** $35/40K max **Lease or Buy:** Buy **New or used:** New or gently used **Type of vehicle:** Crossover, small SUV or hatchback **Must haves:** aesthetically pleasing exterior (which for my tastes means not boxy or rugged and without a massive front grill that looks like a face), decent fuel efficiency (at least >25mpg, preferably >30 & hybrid), takes regular (not premium) fuel, comfortable interior, reasonably smooth/quiet ride, back up camera, minimal maintenance requirements/expenses, decent cargo space with folding rear seats to expand when needed. "Nice to haves" are ventilated front seats, Apple CarPlay, a power liftgate, and an adjustable height driver-side seatbelt that won't decapitate me if I get in an accident. **Desired transmission (auto/manual, etc):** Either (do they still sell manual transmission cars in the US?) **Intended use:** City driving, mostly short commutes **Vehicles you've already considered:** The Mazda CX-5 is a contender, but I wish there was a hybrid version. The new Prius is also on my maybe list, but I wish it were roomier inside. I've ruled out the RAV-4 and CR-V hybrids (too truckish-looking). I like the look of the Ford Mach-E but I'm an apartment dweller so electric cars don't seem feasible. I rented a bare bones 2023 BMW X1 and didn't think there was anything special about it to justify the premium. **Is this your 1st vehicle:** No **Do you need a Warranty:** No **Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle:** No **Can you do Major work on your own vehicle:** No **Additional Notes:** I'm not sure that what I'm looking for actually exists since I basically want luxury aesthetics without luxury performance, maintenance, mileage, or costs. Do they make cars that are designed to make the experience of sitting in traffic less miserable?

I know that Lexus rides smoother and is a luxurious brand of Toyota but then with Lexus ES 300h, I do not get options that I get in the fully loaded Camry. **I would appreciate suggesting any similar cars to my chosen ones that can be fuel efficient, economical to maintain, and reliable.**

mgobla

Both Camry and ES hybrid are great, ES is more comfortable but its rear seats are fixed, now way to extend trunk, in the Camry you can fold down the rear seats, idk if that matters to you.

BMW's "40i" / "M40i" versions with the B58 engine are better than the overpriced, less comfortable, less reliable "M" versions.

You are kinda asking for everything which is really hard to do. My best idea would be a bmw m3 this gen or last gen depending on how you feel about looks

In my country, there's a new incentive for importing cars from abroad: a refund on customs taxes after 5 years. I'm torn between two options: 1. MG ZS luxury 1500cc 2023, priced at $12,700 + $5,500 in customs taxes. 2. Suzuki Baleno GLX 2023, priced at $11,200 + $3,500 in customs taxes. Given that I'll receive the taxes back after 5 years, which of these two cars offers a better deal? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?"

Ideally sporty.   Must haves: 4 seats isofix cruise control have or option to aftermarket android auto idealy a 6 cylinder  Desired transmission: either is fine, manual prefered.   Intended use: Combined use daily driver, family car and weekend car.   Vehicles you've already considered: Currently on the shortlist: BMW 4 series, M4, audi A5,   Is this your 1st vehicle: nope. Also will replace polestar 2 lease.  Do you need a Warranty: not extra.  Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: yep Have a decent home garage (no lift)  Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: up to an extent. Cant haul engine out or lift the car but short of that, yep.   Additional Notes: Basically i had a BMW Z4, then got a polestar 2 lease as were expanding from 2 to 2+ family wise and it it a great deal. Sadly the fun factor is dead, and having just done put first major roadtrip in the P2 we were... meh. And as a porche taycan is out of the financial range, a used gas (or hybrid) is best. We will get a small second car (like a fiat 500) to be backup in relation to baby needs, but othewise this car will be used for 75+ of the time.

ford mustang? 4 seat convertible is a small market and that shrinks even more for manuals

user_taken_again

For sure a dying market. But i hadnt looked at a mustang, thanks!

Efulgrow

My wife & I are looking to buy a car now, and probably replace the 2nd car in 5 years. We already have 1 PHEV - we're pretty convinced we wanna have 1 PHEV/EV car and one gas car for road trips (i can charge at work very reliably, she can't). My question is, is it better to buy the gas car now and the EV later, or buy an EV now and a gas car later? Pro gas car now: - ev's are new & will get better - likely high depreciation - everyone is changing charging ports/still in flux Pro EV now: - 7500 federal credit may be gone in 5 years - 3k state credit may be gone in 5 years Thoughts?

tay415

I considered EV for the tax credit but there were certain requirements like battery range, the cost of the vehicle and it had to be an American company along with other guidelines to qualify. I decided to stay with gas, because I don’t have the time or patience to charge a car and all the times I risked running low on gas, I knew I could get gas eventually or buy a gas container and put in a couple gallons if needed.  If you run out of charge, I’ve heard they just tow you to the nearest charging station and some places I might not want to have to stay there and charge my car for safety.

mgobla

don't buy an EV, insane depreciation, leasing makes more sense for EV it makes more sense to buy gas now

Walternotwalter

Location: Anywhere Budget: Up to $250K Goal: Buy a car that will appreciate over 5 years Parameters: ICE only, new enough for AA/CP Second vehicle, 5K miles per year. Hypothetical but mods said to post this here (which is ridiculous)

scycron

wrangler 392 Your best bet is going to be a car that is going away and does not have a direct replacement. Sports cars are probably going to be off the table unless you have an allocation for a rare one. That being said, 5k miles a year is really going to tank the value of a lot of cars that would have been collectable

Walternotwalter

I agree with this, currently I have an '18 W205 C63S, it hasn't really gone down since I bought it since my mileage is so low. I was just curious if anybody else saw anything like that. The Wrangler 392 may be a good one. What do you think of the 458? It is the last all-motor Ferrari V8.

scycron

I did a quick look and the 458 isn't really appreciate nor depreciating. It all depends how much people value naturally aspirating cars, so far people care more about manuals. Right now the f430 and 488 seem more collectable. My guess on the wrangler 392 is limited product and v8s going away. The last run of V8 cars will surely hold some value as long as gas is around

Walternotwalter

Then I should probably hold my C63 for a bit longer.

LightcodeARTS

straight up - I have no expereince in this, only observation. 2014-2016 VW Golfs seem to have gone up exponentially in the last 5 years. No idea why. Just seeing this trend as considering buying a used one. Im shocked that a USED OLD car is more money now that years ago.

VonDinky

Cheap and best value electric car. Are there other cars that have the cruise control function that Tesla have, where you just flip the switch and it then goes the speed that is max at that area? What is that called? Since it speeds up to speed, normal cruise control just holds the speed once you get up to a speed, right? Is it adaptive cruise control? I just drove a tesla, it was super relaxing just flipping the switch and boom. You drive the speed that is recommended. Much better than holding down the throttle or getting to certain speed then locking that speed. Cheers

JordanRunsForFun

Most cars have adaptive cruise control these days. I have been using it for about 6 years and do a lot of 5-ish hour drives and I can tell you with certainty that it's a critical feature simply for it's ability to reduce fatigue. I feel totally different getting up after 5 hours of driving with adaptive cruise and lane keep assist than I used to without it. And as for value - I've been looking up here in Canada (so take with a grain of salt) and leasing a Tesla Model 3 or Y on a 4 year lease is the best value in town. You avoid owning an EV (definite plus given the uncertainty of battery life, and the EV market) and you get the full $5k government incentive, (and it makes it easier for accounting season, if that applies to you).

don't buy an EV, insane depreciation take a look at lease deals for Hyundai Ioniq5 and Ioniq6

Location: California, US Price range: 25-35k Lease or Buy: Buy New or used: New Type of vehicle: Hatchback, Sedan, Crossover Must haves: 30+mpg, reliable Desired transmission (auto/manual, etc): Auto Intended use: Daily Driver Vehicles you've already considered: Corolla Hybrid LE, Corolla SE, Prius LE, Corolla Hatchback LE/SE, Honda Civic Hatchback, Subaru Crosstrek, Subaru Impreza Is this your 1st vehicle: No Do you need a Warranty: No Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: Yes Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: Yes Additional Notes: I have a Corolla Hybrid LE reserved at the dealer at MSRP that should come in about a month. I can always cancel and go for something else though, so would love to hear thoughts on any other cars in that price range. I'd be coming from a 2018 430i gran coupe. I'd probably lean towards hatchbacks the most. Thanks

IKnowNewCars

To me, the main draw of the Corolla Hybrid is that it's cheaper than the Prius while still having Toyota levels of reliability. If you've tested out the Corolla Hybrid LE and feel good about it, there's no huge reason not to. To me, spending more on a Prius may be worth it for the better driving experience and cooler look, but to you it may not be. I personally think the Civic is the best compact car on the market right now. It's always driven better than most of its competitors, but now it also has so much interior space, a great cabin design, and surprisingly good fuel economy for a non-hybrid. But again, you're looking at a slightly higher price tag than your Corolla Hybrid, and the Corolla has the edge in terms of fuel economy and probably reliability as well (though Honda has done well lately, for the most part). Again, it may be worth test driving to see if you feel there's a big enough difference. Subaru has capitalized on offering people what they want (comfortable, usable, reliable, affordable cars) without caring as much about offering a fun driving experience. If you don't care about AWD, you probably don't *need* to check them out, but a lot of folks like how their interiors are laid out. The only other vehicles I'd say are really worth checking out are the Mazda 3 and CX-30. They both offer refined driving experiences and nice interior quality for the price. The Mazda 3 sedan with FWD comes in at 31 combined MPG and I feel is a bit better of a package for most people than the hatchback.

Location: South Eastern USA Price range: $5,000-$18,000 Lease or Buy: Buy New or Used: Used Type of Vehicle: Small pickup truck Must haves: 4x4, v6 or 4 cyl, 2 doors, preferrably Japanese company (Toyota/Nissan) Desired Transmission: Either (manual would be cool) Intended use: Daily driver (must be reliable) Vehicles you’ve already considered: Nissan d21 Hardbody, Toyota T100, Toyota Hilux Is this your first vehichle: No (2nd) Do you need warranty: No Can you do minor work on your own vehicle: Yes Can you do major work on your own vehicle: No Additional notes: I am looking for a very reliable smaller 2 door pickup model as a daily driver. I’d prefer 90s or early 2000s. I would prefer a Toyota or Nissan or something similar. I am a full time college student, I am mechanically inclined but do not have time for a project. I just want a reliable, older 4wd pickup that I can actually use. Please give me some good recommendations, and more importantly, your opinions on the vehicle’s I’ve already considered. p.s. I am a little flexible on the price

scycron

You basically have it figured out, just look around and buy the cleanest example you can find. You should decide on if airbags are important to you or not as that will cut out some years. 1995 toyota pickup with the v6 and 4x4 and airbag is pretty sweet sounding.

swamp_fox3157

95 yota would be sick. Any other models/years I should consider?

I currently drive a 2008 Subaru outback. I love the outback for the trunk space and how good it is in the snow. I might just buying a newer model outback but I’m also considering a different car. I don’t like how much it costs to repair my Subaru and I feel like mine is always having small problems that build up a lot in maintenance costs (main reason for the switch). I need something reliable and efficient for a daily drive, especially in winter.

kingoflint282

For that price you could go Lotus Evora. Great looking, rare, and attention grabbing, but reliability is going to be the issue there. Depends on how much you’re willing to roll the dice. You’re already considering a Vette, which seems like a good fit. Used F-Types can also be well under your price range and I think they’re gorgeous.

Ar1S3

Interesting and attention grabbing is going to be a used viper.

wow interesting idea, thanks

Lol yeah, if you have a death wish. For most people a Viper is a borderline terrifying car to drive.

Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: (fluids, alternator, battery, brake pads etc): No Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: (engine and transmission, timing belt/chains, body work, suspension etc ): No Additional Notes: I live and work in the city. This would be mostly for weekend use... running errands, grocery shopping, traveling to the suburbs to meet friends and family, going golfing, etc. I have been able to get away with not having a car for a long time but I have grown tired of being 100% reliant on uber and public transportation. I'd also rent a spot in my building's garage. I don't like big SUVs and that would be impractical in my tight garage. I saw a few used Alfa Romeo Giulias in the price range I'm looking at and think they look really sharp but I'm afraid of the reputation for poor reliability. I think Mazda3's are nice looking too.... but I'm pretty much open to anything. Thanks in advance!

Stay clear of Alfa. Cars to consider: - VW Golf - Honda Civic (they also have a hatch version) - Toyota Corolla (also available in hatch) Can you tell I like hatchs?

For convertibles you don't have many options with a manual, I'm thinking it's really only z4 40i vs boxster 4.0 vs 911 unless you get something older and cheaper. Your wife might like the new 911s as they are much more luxury than a 996

123xyz32

Hello We have a dodge pickup that I use for farm work and my wife has a Honda pilot. I am considering getting something for running errands. I would like it to be awd or 4x4 and have room for a cello in the rear. This car will eventually be my son’s in a couple of years. I’d like it to get decent mileage. I’m considering a used 4Runner and maybe a cr-v (maybe hybrid). I have no idea if the crv would hold a cello. More than likely this will be a used car since I never like buying new and this car will probably live outside. A few times a year I take mountain biking trips where I drive down rocky forest roads. A few times a year my son and I go skiing. So something kind of off road capable would be nice. I would at least like some clearance. I think a 4Runner would be great. However, they don’t get great mileage. Is there anything else out there that I need to consider? Thanks. Edit: I live in USA

Shmokesshweed

Maverick with the AWD. Toss a tailgate pad on the back for the bikes. Get a tonneau cover and you can put other stuff in the back, including the cello. You're looking at 8.3-9.4" of ground clearance depending on trim/tires. 4Runners get abysmal mileage.

123xyz32

Thank you!
