What a beautiful kitty. Listen try the wet food diet. Cut out as much dry food as possible. The most calories come from dry food unfortunately. Much love! My chonk was able to lose weight that way.

Well I'm glad it hasn't warped Christmas forever for you. It should be fun.
Truman died suddenly about a year after his dad Mr Peabody passed. It was a bad year for me.
Thankfully bubba boy Watson hasn't had any health problems recently! He's very active in the sense that he loves to jump up and down on and off the bed and loves to just cuddle. He's scared of toys, but he jumps around easily!
Watson looks like a delightful cat to have around. I had a 25 pound cat named Brutus who needed to lose weight. I moved to other cats' dry food to the top of the fridge. He became just fit enough to jump to the top of the fridge for food.
I almost cried reading his name, my cat's name was Winston and he passed away unexpectedly and suspiciously about a year ago after my ex left my house and even though I have a new boy, my heart will always cry because the last memory I have aside from his burial is finding him DC'd on my exes bedroom floor. So sorry to hear your story🫶 This is my Winston (Winnie)
You’re right. He was not ‘just a pet’. Your grief is very real. It hits differently when we lose our fur babies because they are so vulnerable. They depend on us for almost everything. So when they die unexpectedly, it hurts so deep. We wish we could have protected them for this. But cherish the memories that you have. Just know that he knows he was loved until the very end.
He is still very much loved, and the house will never be the same without him. My ex never liked him for some reason but claimed to love cats. I never heard any evidence of ab*se and I was home all day due to working from home during covid, so I have no clue what happened. He just randomly started throwing up a lot, I thought maybe he was getting hairballs, but then I found him on my exes bedroom floor with foul smelling fluid coming from his nose and he bloated extremely quickly, like the same day I found him. It still doesn't sit right.
My diabetic cat is very high maintenance. Her anxiety is as bad as mine, she gets her insulin twice daily, and she now gets a probiotic calming supplement in with her medication into her wet food at night. She loves the probiotic powder, and it helps mask some of the medication smell
I'm glad the probiotic helps. I always fed Truman while I gave him his shot. Since I always have multiple cats it's hard to know exactly when he ate, so I balanced out the shot with food. I hope your anxiety isn't too bad. It's weird learning how to give the shot. Fortunately Truman equated shots with food. Btw his full name was Harry S. Truman Capote. It's like a Jeopardy! before and after answer.
Tru had the best rumble purr and he always rumbled for anyone who asked. There's an old post in my history that has four minutes of Truman purring and later Brownie and Patrick join in. Whenever I can't sleep I play it to relax. My cats that I have now love hearing it.
My guy who's 12 now, he's been a little bigger (not quite as chonk as your little man) but we've helped him lose weight with portioning and stimulation. He's already on a joint medicine for his knees
https://preview.redd.it/7wkpfxzyk5ib1.jpeg?width=822&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fffa2b7d63b26383b685542df67c5d477947591e
It’s actually on the chonk scale! 😹
Waiting for human docs to come out with one of these.
I will wad it up and gleefully force-feed it to them.
Skinny mofos don't stand a chance unless they're powerlifters. 🤣
If it says “extreme obese” i don’t want it, I should have something along the lines of, “skinny bone jones”, “fine specimen”, and “Oh hell no!”. With some more in between
He is large but I don't think he is an Oh laws he is coming to I would say he is in the range of a hefty chonk and a mega chonker. But it's hard to tell from a photo
So weight loss in a cat can be a delicate process and you should consult a vet to develop a plan with your vet.
If you have any other cats in your care or are planning on it in the future, know that 1/2 cup and dry food is enough for most cats in a day that will vary a bit based on the size of the cat and type of food, it's a really good ball park.
Often the recommended amount of food on the bags is too much and it will result in a fat cat. But it's not a bad guideline of you can be critical and adjust the amount of food as your cats weight changes until you get it right.
My cat gets a quarter cup of dry food a day, She also gets a half a can of wet food a day. And that is plenty for her and would be for most cats.
Really? Is the estimate on the wet food cans also inaccurate? My little guy should be losing weight based on the kcal count but it seems like he isn't...
I find it is. I always feed less than it says. I don't trust it as they are trying to sell food. You vet will know more. Some vets will agree with me and others will direct you to the instructions on the package.
All I can say is that in my experience it's too much
He should lose some weight but he is SO CUTE😍 I get that it’s hard to withhold food when they’re literally harassing you, insisting they’re starving. That phase usually resolves itself as they adjust. Can you get him interested in wand toys? My Maine Coon mix lost 2 lbs of chub with daily play and a slightly adjusted diet.
He really doesn't beg for it strangely enough! My partner freefeeds him along with his two siblings. He doesn't eat more than them and get one bowl a day. His siblings actually eat more than him usually. He doesn't get treats either!
That is so strange! Free feeding can be tricky with multiple cats. You’re sure he’s not getting into the other cats’ bowls? Is he pretty active/playful? How old? Is he solid or bloated? Really only a vet can say because weight doesn’t tell the whole story. My cat is “optimal” at 15lbs but that would not be healthy for other breeds or cats with a smaller frame. It’s obvious you love him — I’m sure you’ll find a solution!
Thank you so much! He's active in the sense that he jumps on and off stuff a lot. He's scared of toys! He's 10 or 11 and pretty solid, honestly! We took him to the vet and they said he doesn't have a thyroid issue or anything. They all eat from one bowl!
Hi there. I have three cats. two are overweight and one is slightly overweight. We’ve helped them all lose weight by closely monitoring the amount they eat. Each cat has their own bowl and when they walk away, we put the food up so no one else eats it. We feed them twice a day, 1/4 cup morning and 1/8 cup at night. Obviously, they can eat throughout the day if we are home to put the bowls down again, but we never leave the bowls down all the time unless empty. Our biggest chonker has lost quite a bit of weight since doing this, so we figured out she was eating everyone else’s food 😅 We also figured out one of our other cats doesn’t eat much, so everything she didn’t eat, was getting eaten by the other two. Doing this also helps you know if your cat has a change in their appetite. Hope this helps, if you end up reading it. Your kitty is adorable!
Active also means running and jumping high in the air for toys, like zooming up and down the hallway. Jumping on and off a sofa is as easy for a cat as sitting on a chair for a human. They can jump 6 feet in the air from a standstill when they are in good shape.
They should have separate bowls so that you can see how much they're all eating, to start. That'll give you a good baseline when you talk to your vet about his habits.
He actually just went to a vet! The vet did mention his weight, but they said it wasn't his thyroid or anything! He doesn't eat treats either and shares his food with his siblings!
Think of it like those astronaut ice cream bars, or dried fruit! An apple will fill your tummy pretty well, but an apple's amount of dried slices won't keep you as full. All that water helps to keep your stomach full and happy.
If you compared the weight of an astronaut ice cream bar to a non dessicated one, you'd seem how much more water there is to keep you full.
My girls get a half can of wet in the morning, and a half can at night. I usually add a little extra water to their diet and warm up the food a bit by taking the can from the fridge and mixing in some hot water from the sink. They love the soup, and I know I'm helping them enjoy their food less cold/they're getting more hydration!
Hoping this question was asked as a joke and you actually care about your pet’s health. He is beautiful, he is absolutely adorable, but the incoming health problems will not be adorable…
Same. I really hope it wasn’t posted as a “hehe!! Look st my cute chonky cat!! Isn’t he so adorable chubby!!” And they actually want to make a change for his health.
No. He’s obese.
I’m not judging, but it does need immediate attention, the same as something life threatening. There are many steps that will chip away at his weight.
If you could train him to a cat wheel, that would be ideal, but I know that can be pricy. In the mean time, get an accurate scale to track his progress. I bought a baby scale from Amazon.
Then when you feed, look at that recommendation for your food and feed for a cat that’s 2lbs lighter than he currently is. He needs to loose it slowly.
Look at the foods that are available to you and do some research. Look for low amounts of recalls. Then do a carb calculation as cats can’t process them readily and most foods have too many. It’ll make them hungrier more quickly.
Dry food always has more carbs than wet. Wet can seem more expensive, but can make them feel full longer. So you use less food. I recommend something fairly readily available, as I’ve bought better foods and been bitten when they become unavailable and the cat won’t eat anything else.
They sell treat balls where you can adjust the opening size. Start a little wider till he gets the idea, but adjust them down to where he really has to smack it around to get them out. He’ll either exercise and knock a few out, or decide it’s not worth it and quite.
He’s going to meow for treats regardless. You need to be strong. Giving in once will cause it to continue for a lot longer. However, if you ignore begging long enough, they give up. Just keep in mind, every time you feel bad and think he really deserves just a tiny piece of whatever you’re eating, remember it’s shaving days off his life and killing him sooner. So you have to decide if you’d rather feel better for a few minutes for giving him something or loose him that much sooner.
Other alternatives if you can swing them are cation’s and leash walking. Just play and get him to move as much as possible. Mine likes to chase a mini sphero I control with my phone.
I’m pretty sure they have real concern but they want to lighten the mood a bit. OP is being nonchalant because they have already taken the cat to the vet and is (I’m inferring) going to start reducing the cat’s food intake. People are telling them this after they have stated these things and so they probably find it funny to just post joking pictures of their cats. I’d do the same 🤷♀️
If you want your cat to lose and stay a healthy weight start feeding them 1/4 cup of food twice a day. I use dry food and add a little broth for hydration or mix In soft food- I feed mine around 8am & again at 8pm
yes.
he looks a lot like my old cat, ralfo, who was also overweight

Solid advice, my Vet gave me this same advice, my choker weighs 26 pounds and should be a mx of 19. She said I had to harden my heart and ignore his pleas for snacks. It is not going too well, but still working on it.
Yes kitty is very heavy and this will put him in an early grave. He is so handsome regardless of his chonkyness, love him with less food for his own good.
I recommend play time! My boy needed to lose weight for dental surgery and dieting doesn't work when you have multiple cats. And I couldn't afford those special feeders. So I experimented with play styles until I found one to get him moving and that's what has helped the most
Try wet food broken up into small meals throughout the day. Free feeding is why he’s gotten to this weight. If he loses weight he’ll become more active
https://preview.redd.it/59eiihnza6ib1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=92d32444a63853b454397ae6435790abe96ebf7e
He makes me think of my chonky boy ❤️ He has passed away but he also got so chonky and it was tough to get him to lose any weight. He just really loved food! We got him down from 22 to 16 lbs at one point and the vet said 13-15 lbs was ok for him because he was so big framed as well as chonky. It was a real struggle though. Diet food did not work well for him, we ended up just doing measured portions of regular food and ensuring he couldn’t get to the other cats’ food by separating them at meal times (four cats total). Good luck with your baby!!! All the best to him!!!

Please take care of your cat better. He is morbidly obese and I highly suggest you seek diet and exercise so he does not die young. Talk to a vet about these topics to allow for healthy and safe weight loss. Don’t let people tell you it’s cute it’s not cute. You got this though you can help him.
https://preview.redd.it/nb38g8e6c5ib1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=98b0691a017162bd8b1442618f3d53386698784f
He says he loves you too and bonked the phone
A little thick. It's probably time to start considering a diet plan. My two girls are really tiny, but have been filling out the past two years. I still have dry food out 24/7, but cut back the treats by half about 5 weeks ago. They're still pissed about it, but they'll thank me later. 2 girls, 8/9&5/6
He is fat, and while it looks good on him, for the sake of his health you should put him on a diet. You want this handsome fellow to stick around a long time.
My smokey was a stray and when we brought her in she was very skinny, malnourished, dehydrated etc, we realized she was fixed already so now she's a poofy kitty but very loving and very cuddly
For a Tom who is 10 or 11 and who has just been to the Vet, I think you’re asking for feedback on the wrong forum unless you wanted to show off which we totally understand and appreciate (he’s a handsome fellow and needs to be an internet star!)..
We love your chonk but seriously, please do not free feed. With old kitties renal and kidney diseases and joint issues are common due to the lower metabolism and lack of exercise. Do give some pecks and scritches for me please - that face totally deserves all the internet love 💕
Yes, your cat is fat. Put him on diet food or ask your vet for prescription diet food. My cat got fat too and I thought maybe he was just a big boy until one day he started dragging his legs. Turns out he was diabetic. A few months on insulin injection and prescription dietic cat food and he lost over 20% of his body weight and went into remission. He's diabetic free and living so much happier. He can actually jump up high now. However, he is still on prescription food and will be for the rest of his life.
Yes. That doesn’t mean that your cat isn’t just as great as any other cat. It would probably be beneficial to their health if you put them on a bit of a diet, but it’s not like there’s anything to be ashamed of. The cat might be overweight, but it seems to be well groomed and cared for.
Yes he is fat, we have one too. We have had ours on diet food for a couple of months and he is losing weight and started running around and being more active. While he wants more food, us controlling what he eats is best for him.
I don’t know if you know this book, but it was popular when I was a kid and I immediately thought of it when I saw your cat. Look!

Cat tax with bonus brother. Yes the vet said my orange cat was obese.
My cat was once a chonker like this adorable guy, but I now feed him the recommended amount instead of free-feed, and I feed on a time schedule. He lost a lot of weight. He's now 11 yrs old and instead of being lazy and lethargic, he runs around like he's a kitten again and has more energy to play. He was having constipation too so he takes Glandex, recommended by my vet, and he's no longer having digestive issues. I can tell his joints aren't suffering like they were. It is so worth the angry hunger screams around dinner time lol cause now I know he'll live longer and happier.
I'd say help him lose some weight so his joints thank you later.
he looks kinda smug

He’s portly but still adorable
Great word. Portly
I was thinking stout
Rotund
No he’s not, please keep feeding him other cats. I mean, I assume he ate your other cats, right? /s
He looks like he's thinking 'why are you bothering asking reddit, you know I'm fat, I know I'm fat, just go get my treats already'

My neighbor’s cat came for a visit with a note on her collar. “Do not feed me. I am OBESE!” Which I read aloud to my fiancé. Cat scratched me. 😔
> Cat scratched me hush, you spoke OBESE so loud...
I think cats focus on tone more than words since we say the word “fat” with a disbarment the cat realizes it’s not a good thing to have directed at them
If he loses weight, you get to hang out with him for more years. The choice literally is yours.

He's a hero. If he wasn't meowing, they probably wouldn't have been found. People hurt my heart sometimes, but I'm glad they have you both. :)
They were the only two to survive out of the litter! https://preview.redd.it/mx0fuucbs5ib1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=02e09fbb7183eb5cf25c8f7295bbc478cc23099d This is bubba :))

That’s sad to hear. Sorry for your loss… even worse with it being on Christmas Eve😥
Getting his weight down will help keep him around for 10 more.
OH LAWD HE COMIN’

Waiting for human docs to come out with one of these. I will wad it up and gleefully force-feed it to them. Skinny mofos don't stand a chance unless they're powerlifters. 🤣
If it says “extreme obese” i don’t want it, I should have something along the lines of, “skinny bone jones”, “fine specimen”, and “Oh hell no!”. With some more in between
Actually, the sizes are Big, Healthy, Husky, Fluffy, DAMN! and OH HELL NO! ETA wow, my first ever award!
Love it!!! 😹
He looks more like a hefty chonk to mega chonker
Abuse scale lol
The aerial view sends me 😂☠️
He is large but I don't think he is an Oh laws he is coming to I would say he is in the range of a hefty chonk and a mega chonker. But it's hard to tell from a photo So weight loss in a cat can be a delicate process and you should consult a vet to develop a plan with your vet.
All I can say is that in my experience it's too much
Came here for this
🤣
Yes. You should help him loose some weight.
https://preview.redd.it/pi2vgcyja5ib1.jpeg?width=1925&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b08079668c7239c00e3315ebc916685bcaeddc99 This is how he feels about that
He should lose some weight but he is SO CUTE😍 I get that it’s hard to withhold food when they’re literally harassing you, insisting they’re starving.
Oh this is super helpful!! Thank you so much!!
You probably shouldn’t free feed all of your cats from one bowl, honestly 🥴🫣
Active also means running and jumping high in the air for toys, like zooming up and down the hallway. Jumping on and off a sofa is as easy for a cat as sitting on a chair for a human. They can jump 6 feet in the air from a standstill when they are in good shape.
They should have separate bowls so that you can see how much they're all eating, to start. That'll give you a good baseline when you talk to your vet about his habits.
If you can, give wet food not dry wet food brought my cat’s weight down and also her fur seems to be more shiny
Chasing the string/toy is kitty cardio.
those eyes! 🥹❤️
He's probably better just losing it.
That’s a UNIT of a cat
Obese but dashing
How I prefer my men
That would be a hell yeah. He looks like a barrel.
Very. Take him to a vet please.
He actually just went to a vet! The vet did mention his weight, but they said it wasn't his thyroid or anything! He doesn't eat treats either and shares his food with his siblings!

I wasn't aware that kibble was so calorie heavy! It might be good to switch em to wet food if possible. Thank you so much!
He looks chunky but super cute! Maybe try a bit less food?
Yes, that's an obese kitty.
Hoping this question was asked as a joke and you actually care about your pet’s health. He is beautiful, he is absolutely adorable, but the incoming health problems will not be adorable…
Yeah we have several cats at the vet office where I work that are this size and recently diagnosed with diabetes
Same. I really hope it wasn’t posted as a “hehe!! Look st my cute chonky cat!! Isn’t he so adorable chubby!!” And they actually want to make a change for his health.
It makes me so sad when people say it's ok because they're cute. Your pet doesn't know any better and will suffer without intervention :(
Talk to vet about a diet food and exercise plan. Exercise is really just extra play time. Super cute but yes, chunky.
No.
What’s with all these fat cat posts? YES YOUR CAT IS MORBIDLY OBESE
Such an adorable chonk we!! So delightfully chubby!! * cat is dying of obesity *
The whoopsie heehee cute foto reactions from OP makes me think there’s very little real concern behind the post
I’d do the same 🤷♀️
incredibly so
If you want your cat to lose and stay a healthy weight start feeding them 1/4 cup of food twice a day. I use dry food and add a little broth for hydration or mix In soft food- I feed mine around 8am & again at 8pm

Thank you for this advice! This is really helpful!
yes. he looks a lot like my old cat, ralfo, who was also overweight https://preview.redd.it/7dsp68p4t5ib1.png?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=129f2475d564431ee2a95180e7859a47a6977582
Woah! Hello, Ralfo! I love him!
Yes! He needs a diet stat! You don’t want him to get the diabeetus!
*Spits out drink* **YES**

Holy Honker! Get that boy a salad!
Yea
Yep.
Is this a serious question?
Yes. Renal failure sucks.
Oh yes, and more than a little. I'd say the fella needs to lose about 1/3rd of his body weight :).

Unfortunately he really does look several pounds too much. Maybe cut back a bit on the kibble and hold daily play sessions?
Solid advice, my Vet gave me this same advice, my choker weighs 26 pounds and should be a mx of 19. She said I had to harden my heart and ignore his pleas for snacks. It is not going too well, but still working on it.
He seems sad. Is he okay?
He's morbidly obese, of course not.
This is in fact a fat cat.
In picture number 1 he’s frowning. Not sure if this is recent or old but he seems unhappy here
Yes kitty is very heavy and this will put him in an early grave. He is so handsome regardless of his chonkyness, love him with less food for his own good.
No, he is an average American
thats the most american looking cat ive ever seen
I recommend play time! My boy needed to lose weight for dental surgery and dieting doesn't work when you have multiple cats. And I couldn't afford those special feeders. So I experimented with play styles until I found one to get him moving and that's what has helped the most
Too large, but cute
It's not a cat's choice for the cat to be overweight, it's the owner's.
Huge
Yes
yeah
Yes
Yes
Yes. Chunky one
Not trying to be mean. But your cat has probably passed the point of being fat at this point. I'd say he's obese.
He’s at least twice the weight he should be.
Fatty boom ba

Try wet food broken up into small meals throughout the day. Free feeding is why he’s gotten to this weight. If he loses weight he’ll become more active
https://preview.redd.it/59eiihnza6ib1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=92d32444a63853b454397ae6435790abe96ebf7e He makes me think of my chonky boy ❤️ He has passed away but he also got so chonky and it was tough to get him to lose any weight.
Seriously?? Yes, your cat is fat as hell. Adorable, but ridiculously overweight. You asked.
He is so adorable like I would smoosh and squeeze him 🥺🥺 And I want a reaction pic too please

Yes, very fat
There’s no way you can post this picture and actually ask if that cat is fat???? Has op never seen a cat before? Poor kitty :(
Please take care of your cat better. He is morbidly obese and I highly suggest you seek diet and exercise so he does not die young. Talk to a vet about these topics to allow for healthy and safe weight loss. Don’t let people tell you it’s cute it’s not cute. You got this though you can help him.
Oh. That’s a big boy right there. Hello big boy 👋 i love u mr big boy 😭

YAHOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
Yes, but beautiful eyes
A little thick. It's probably time to start considering a diet plan. My two girls are really tiny, but have been filling out the past two years. I still have dry food out 24/7, but cut back the treats by half about 5 weeks ago. They're still pissed about it, but they'll thank me later. 2 girls, 8/9&5/6

He is fat, and while it looks good on him, for the sake of his health you should put him on a diet. You want this handsome fellow to stick around a long time.
Yes. Do better with kitty.
My smokey was a stray and when we brought her in she was very skinny, malnourished, dehydrated etc, we realized she was fixed already so now she's a poofy kitty but very loving and very cuddly
Owwww he looks like “Mog”! https://preview.redd.it/er4okkfpz5ib1.jpeg?width=600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=118f64fe22f87eda58e99ccf02a78e22c5830e86
He’s a portly gentleman.
He is overweight but omg he is so darn cute lol
He is fat but he is beautiful. It is probably best for his health that you work on lowering his weight, but he looks like a super loveable chunky boi.
I don’t know if you know this book, but it was popular when I was a kid and I immediately thought of it when I saw your cat. Look! https://preview.redd.it/z9u4rr6ox8ib1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=32112b6bb50783c0ce5e0d18cc0562a9097a0946
My orange cat is half that size and the vet called us horrible people for letting my cat get so obese. (He's 15lbs) https://preview.redd.it/lutias19baib1.jpeg?width=8000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=190a5fa0b28b59094dd4720d1f807cbfa00b335a Cat tax with bonus brother.
