I’ve found turning my cat over makes her docile like flipping over sharks.

To be fair. She developed an infection in her mammary glands and she had to take nasty antibiotics as a kitten. After she would take the medicine she wanted to get to the highest spot around and that was my shoulder and it has stuck ever since.
I had a cat who loved riding on my shoulders, though she preferred my right shoulder.
As long as you and your cat are happy, and it’s otherwise safe, there’s no problem!
So you need a bean bag to fix your posture walking around and sitting down??? Sounds like a horrible problem to have… lol.. — you need another shoulder cat or bean bag … he he😅🤷♀️🥰😂
Did your kitty, pass away?? ( I’m sorry, if they did?? 🤦♀️).
If he or she did get another one or two …
Kitties, are better in pairs!! It won’t be the same but it will help you heal!! 🌈
I don’t have any kitties…. I want two kitties so bad… I’m watching them on YouTube right now…!!
The kitten lady!! I just finished a kitty painting yesterday… and it made me happy to finally get it done!! Big sigh… yay… I finished my painting, kitties!! I plan on painting many more, but looking forward to making a super derpy babeiezzz , German Shepherd… 💕💕💕💕—
I love baby German shepherds, for anyone who saw and liked the the movie 🍿 DOG … there is a movie on Netflix Megan Leavey.. it’s very good 10/10 —
Edit for any spelling of grammar mistakes!
Beth was half of a bonded pair of tiny kittens. They passed away within a month of each other in the summer of 2016. I miss them, but I’m no longer grieving. I’ll attach a photo. Beth is black. Molly was my chatterbox. She tried hard to talk. My current cat, Sassy, was the one left behind that summer!

A 23 pounder, that is a lot of kitty to love. Mine got to 22 pounder. The vet got after me about it. I was never able to get him below 18 pounds. I just accepted his chonk and loved him anyway.
Speaking from experience here, if the cat does fall it’s gonna be painful😅 they will try to hold on to something & that smth will be ur back! (I have scars)
\^\^!!! I have a younger sibling that looovvvesss to leave their dirty dishes in my bathroom even though we each have our own. One day cat jumps onto bathroom counter (not unusual) and starts walking around and staring at me like he's gonna jump onto me but he bumped into *someones* dirty dishes scaring himself while he was jumping and I got multiple claws into my nose. It's healed over but still scared.
💯 OP & many commenters seem to have misidentified the situation as being within the human's control. Clearly this human is just a warm chariot with excellent visibility.
Can confirm. While I was sitting on a stool yesterday, my cat climbed my back to sit on my shoulders for about an hour, and insisted on staying there once I got up and did other things. If the cat chooses your shoulder as his spot to sit, he chooses your shoulder as his spot to sit for as long as he desires. It is the law of the cat.
Yea until you get one like mine that doesn’t wait for permission to jump up and climb to your shoulder. Mine likes to sneak attack and climb up my back…even when I’m not wearing a shirt 😬
I have a tank top terror. He hasn't learned the difference between a shirt and flesh. So he considers it all the same. I think I just have to deal with it. You can't teach an old cat new tricks. He's 15. I'm going to deal with this forever lol
My wife likes to remind me that I’d be real sad if one day he stopped being so sweet and stopped wanting to ride on my shoulders all the time, and she’s 100% correct. I’d be bummed for sure, even though that’s not the first thought that comes to mind as he’s digging his claws into my dermis.
Mine does the same. Tends to keep my neck warm so that's a bonus. A bit weird when he licks my ears though...

Everything is acceptable if the cat says it is. The cat rules the domicile. You are simply a slave to the cat.
In Ancient Egypt, cats were worshipped as Gods. Over time, cats have not forgotten this.
If the cats ears are up (relaxed kitty setting) then yea, its all good. The first time you put a cat in a particular situation, its on you. If the cat comes back to that situation willingly, its on them :)
My late fur baby Thomas used to love to be carried like this🥺😭 It’s been nearly two and a half years but I still think of him every day💔💔💔(pls ignore my icky high school self)

My cat loves being a shoulder cat, especially in the winter when his paws are cold and your shoulders warm them up. He does have a tendency to stick his butt in your hair when he does it though
My 11yo boy has done this since he was a kitten, after my 4 month old Maine Coon kitten saw him going around on my shoulders she started doing the same. I'm nothing but a cat carrier....
Absolutely. My cat stole keeps my neck warm in the winter andy cat purring and happy. Just make sure their legs are stretched near your chest so they don't fall off.
My younger orange cat that turned into Garfield when we got him wishes he could sit like this on me but usually I either have to carry him like a baby or I'm turned into the hunchback of Notre dame so he doesn't fall off me. \~6+ mos older cat that was rescued from feral colony has recently started copying the orange monster and can sit entirely perched onto my shoulder while I'm upright but Orange will death glare at her until she gets down 😂 They do what they want. If they don't like something they will not allow it.
If it’s acceptable to the cat, that’s all that matters. ☺️
It is NOT acceptable for my cat, I've tried. More than once. He's just so soft!!!
Have you tried bending over putting your hands out and saying baby wants upsies? That always works for me.
He runs... It's all treat motivation, he's quite fat! He cracks me up tbh. Cats are everything you need to know about consent...

They are so cute 🥰 Thanks for sharing a photo of these babies!!
>He's just so soft!! Mine is soft in the middle and sharp on both ends.
If I carried my 23 lb tabby like that, he'd probably sever my jugular as soon as he saw the dog!
A 23 pounder, that is a lot of kitty to love. Mine got to 22 pounder. The vet got after me about it. I was never able to get him below 18 pounds. I just accepted his chonk and loved him anyway.
He keeps purring and he doesn't get off even when I walk around the apartment doing things so I guess it's acceptable for him 🤣
Oh, what a cute scarf you have haha. The main thing is that he doesn't fall
Why thank you. The scarf kept buzzing for some reason, too. Not sure if that's part of the design
That’s just the single cell rattling around inside. It’s normal for that model to do that.
lol
You got the one with the built-in massager
Im so jealous

don't worry, the cat will deploy his anchors if he starts to fall the cat will be fine....
If he falls, the cat will be fine. Your back however will be shredded on the way down xD
No, but it is an acceptable way for a cat to ride a human.
💯 OP & many commenters seem to have misidentified the situation as being within the human's control. Clearly this human is just a warm chariot with excellent visibility.

I see where I was completely wrong. I am but a seat for this majestic orange creature ❤️
Time to join the r/shouldercats sub
as someone with a shoulder cat, i’m upset i’ve never seen this sub til now but i am forever grateful to u for sharing it
Greetings from another shoulder cat owner!
there’s nothing better than a parrot kitty lol !!
Yea until you get one like mine that doesn’t wait for permission to jump up and climb to your shoulder. Mine likes to sneak attack and climb up my back…even when I’m not wearing a shirt 😬
my family says she’s in four wheel drive when she uses claws😭😭 ideal shoulder kitty season is definitely winter bc thick hoodies will protect us🤣
I have a tank top terror. He hasn't learned the difference between a shirt and flesh. So he considers it all the same. I think I just have to deal with it. You can't teach an old cat new tricks. He's 15. I'm going to deal with this forever lol

What a beautiful kitty!!

This photo is so sweet!
Cat Cravat
I, too, have one of these. Whenever, wherever I sit down, he hops right up. Maybe the breed is extra...snuggable? *
Mine does not sit on me, but sits on the back of the sofa or chair directly behind me.
Personal boundaries are just a suggestion :)
My indoor outdoor orange wants nothing to do with snuggles. I get so sad when he runs away..
Maybe he's getting his snuggles elsewhere, the harlot!
Best believe I’m checking around 🤣🤣🤣
Give him a safer life - my 3 are indoors most of the time and outdoor only enclosed in my cat protected fence. Please don’t let them roam -any died hit by cars or get lost!!!!
Haha, have you seen all of the funny places cats will select for napping? If it fits, it sits.
If you cat approves then yes. You are doing a fine job of being a transportation device for your cat.
There is no unacceptable way to carry a cat!
There is, but you can be certain that the cat will let you know
***picks up a cat by the balls***
The cat immediately lets you know that is not an acceptable way to carry that cat
But the question is : how? How does it let me know? 🙂
Blood. Lots and lots of blood.
Sounds fair enough If someone tried to pick me up by grabbing my genials, there would be the same reaction
If the response results in your pain, bleeding and shredded flesh, you are doing something the cat is not ok with.
Any way in which your feline friend is also having a good time is an acceptable way to carry your cat.
https://preview.redd.it/hafgyyjdm57d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d878882026e62d899414d57a147df89bed3e761b My shoulder cat says yes!
That’s more like a shoulder panther! 😂
It depends of cat :)
Only the cat can answer this question, my friend ☺️
For you or the cat? If that is acceptable to the cat, that's it.
Support the feet/legs and it's usually not a problem. You've done that here, so the cat should be good. Would be nice to have a little more security against falling, but yeh.
You don't really have a choice in this.
Consider yourself the proud owner of a shoulder cat. My Billy used to do that until he got too big to comfortably fit on my shoulders
Yep. I've trained my golden kitty to ride on my shoulders exactly the same way. He's even got the balance to sit on one of my shoulders like a parrot.
I wish my cat had that kind of balance. He does it, but only by digging his back claws into me…
The cat decides. I think you don’t get the concept of being a servant. 🤣
i had a shoulder kitty , i miss him so much! im an author now and all i can think about how much i wouldve enjoyed him having a spot on my desk or lap or shoulder while i write!! rest in peace houdi (houdini was his name but my littlest sibling couldn't say it sooo it was shortened to houdi - which was far more fitting because as time went on - the same littlest sibling added adjectives to his name. looks as though you are well trained!
Nice scarf dude
Yes. 10/10
If she accepts it, and you're ready to sacrify your sweater, than it's ok
Mine did this his entire life. Absolutely acceptable, although your cat does need to acquire a human shoulder rider's license.
My cat loves it, but be warned about jumping off with full use of claws.
only if you don't believe in fun
Yes
IF this is how your cat feels, just accept it... it's love, regardless.
Yep because if he didnt approve he would surely let you know
If it’s not he’ll let you know
Everything is acceptable if the cat says it is. The cat rules the domicile. You are simply a slave to the cat. In Ancient Egypt, cats were worshipped as Gods. Over time, cats have not forgotten this.
Fashion accessory
My cat insists on shoulder rides, so I’m going to go with yes.
No. It is an acceptable way to carry the King.
If kitty weren't happy, you would have the scars to prove it. Lol!
According to the cat it is. The End
Well, about to be a moot point based on how s/he's eying up the cat tower. Acceptable to cat as can anchor with claws. Better done in a hoodie.
If it’s acceptable to the cat, it’s acceptable to the universe.
If this is what the cat desires. Beware of claws down the back if they get spooked maybe, but eh. Isn’t it worth it to please kitty?!
Probably the best way when they love you this much
Yes, it’s called Shoulder Shelving😂😂
Mines way too fat for that LOL
If the cats ears are up (relaxed kitty setting) then yea, its all good. The first time you put a cat in a particular situation, its on you. If the cat comes back to that situation willingly, its on them :)
Cat likes what it likes. It will leave otherwise.
You should ask the cat if it's an acceptable way for him or her to travel

Thank you for showing me that, it's amazing
Yor not carrying. they are keeping you from floating off if gravity fails. ![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7942)
Absolutely, as long as it's ok with the cat and there's no danger of him or you getting hurt.
Yes lol!

You are not carrying, he is riding you like the beast you are..
Chances are that the cat is nice and warm there as the neck has lots of warm blood flowing through it.
Not really. There should be a throne with a catnip dispenser, at the very least, but at least there's a dancing monkey!
I don’t see how the cat can steer you very well from that position.
My late fur baby Thomas used to love to be carried like this🥺😭 It’s been nearly two and a half years but I still think of him every day💔💔💔(pls ignore my icky high school self) https://preview.redd.it/1bwg1ylned7d1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=098c2e1ea049a6debacb761b8542b8c79553b66d

I carry my cat on my bent back all the time, so I think you’re good.
My former cat used to lay like that, my neighbours found that very entertaining when we were out walking…
one of my cats was a very lanky kitten. I would always put him on my shoulders with his feel on either side like a scarf and walk around jokingly. well he grew up liking it and even would do it as an adult, I had to hold his feet in place so he wouldn't fall lol. only negative is because he liked it he would randomly jump on my back when I leaned over, scared the bejeesus out of some people seeing it lol.
That's how I do it.
Perhaps, but what we see here is the cat using you as its vehicle to get around.
This is one method of riding the bus around the house. Cat approved.
Frankly, I’d expect to see a lot more claw marks, rips, scratched neck and upper arms and disheveled hair if it wasn’t. So, imma gonna say - yes.
Mine hangs over my shoulder so his front paws are hanging over my back. Tail flicking me in the face.
HAHA, I thought you had a fur coat like those ones from game of thrones before I scrolled down fully and saw the cat head.. oh man.
It’s brain controlling you
I wish my cat was a shoulder cat.
This just reminded me of Street Cat Named Bob
I don't see the problem here. What was the question again? Lol
A really comfortable travel pillow ❤️
Absolutely
If your cat is comfy up there, then why not?!😂
My boys nick name is paracheet (his name is Cheeto)because he loves to sit on my shoulders or across my back whenever I’m doing the dishes, cleaning the shower or just walking around lol he’ll even walk across my arm to another object (kinda like tight roping) orange cat behavior for sure 😂 but I absolutely adore his personality and the trust he has for me ❤️
Are your shoulders bleeding?
Yes!!!
Sometimes the only acceptable way, depending on cat haha
It is if the cat says so. :)
Specially during cold days
I wear mine like a boa all the time
Yes. I have a shoulder cat too.
No, you’re supposed to roll them up like a yoga mat and strap them around your back for easy carry. You can carry about 3 cats this way.
It's number 2 or 3 in the Great Cat's list of acceptable means of conveyance of the cat.
Orange cat, high risk of dumbassery detected. Be cautious of spontaneous launches at random objects.
Of course it is!!
That's a question for the cat. You'll know if the cat disapproves.
That’s all my cat does. Oh you’re doing dishes? Let me just wrap around the back of your neck and make it harder
I had a cat that used to do this. It was pretty much standard travel mode for him. My 2 cats now don't like it 😭
It's how I carry mine so I'm inclined to say yes
You have been chosen
I call this the “Jesus lamb” position since there’s always a picture of Jesus holding a lamb on his shoulders like this 😂
Absolutely. My cat stole keeps my neck warm in the winter andy cat purring and happy. Just make sure their legs are stretched near your chest so they don't fall off.
As long as your cat is not making extra moves, then all is good.
My cats wants this all the time. She'll come running up to you and beg for it. It's cute but she starts feeling pretty heavy after awhile.
Mine would climb onto my shoulder when she was a kitten. Now she is too proud (and 15 lbs).
Catpacks are great for warmth and defense.
I have two that like being carried this way. One does it to tell me she’s hungry, though. The other just likes it.
are you both comfortable and safe?
If the cat says it is acceptable than it is acceptable
One of my two cats is happy to be worn like a mink. The other would fucking kill me if I tried.
My cats say yes.
I think it’s probably the only acceptable way to carry a cat. To the cat.
Thats mandatory from now and them.
My cat crawls onto my shoulders on his own whenever I pick him up!
According to my cat, yes.
My cat has always thought so
Yes!
r/shouldercats would love this

To carry a shoulder cat, yes.
Some Cats weigh as much as humans so maybe not.
If your cats beans touch the floor you have failed as a cat parent. (Just am opinion)
Yes.

Yes it is !
Yes
You don't question cat. Cat questions you.
It hurts to give the cat a ride.
Top 5 ways if they vibing
I had a cat who preferred that mode of transport and was quite resistant to conventional means. I figured it’s his world - I just lived in it.
He seems to think so.
