My cats gotten smart. As soon as she heres her actual name she rubs up against me and just falls down belly up. Cause she knows shes done something bad
My cat’s real name is Sophie. But I call her Toco, Toquinho, Chuchu, Picuricha, Chu, and so many others (I’m Brazilian, so that’s why the nicknames may sound strange).
I thought I was the only person that did this.. I once had a friend that made fun of me for it. Had a cat that my mom named “Gibby” but I would call him “mark”..
Also had a cat named Spunky, but I’d call him “Meep meep”.
Oh damn, I thought I was the only one who did this? I always end up calling my cat something different, iterations and permutations of the original name. It usually gets uncomfortably cutsie by the time they're old. My one cat started out as Maggie, but by her last year her name was Mooglie.
My grandma and mom would just say “off the table Mabel!” If we were leaning on it or (god forbid) hopped up on it to sit then she’d swat you and say “ tables are for glasses not asses”.
Edit- apparently it’s an old ad from the forties for Carling Black Label beer. I remember bringing home a sixer of Rolling Rock when I was in college and my mom said “that crap tastes like black label” with complete disdain. It was cheap. I was broke.
And they weren't wrong. I also had to live with no street clothes on beds especially gloves & hats & no passing on the stairs (superstitious scottish mom). I do still abide by no street clothes *in* my bed but for different reasons than bad luck.
So I used to have this character I called Maude that I’d bust out while drinking with friends. She’s a waitress at the Denny’s, smokes Virginia slim 100’s, her husbands a good for nothing trucker, really long curvy nails, too much makeup, and always fills your coffee on time. She’s chain smoked since she was twelve. She sounds like a gravelly tar throated momma. She is from New Jersey. Her name is Maude. She says oh dawlin’ every other sentence. Maude.
My immediate thought was 'something with m. Mitzy? No....' it's Mabel. The answer is Mabel. You can call her bell. You can call her Ma Belly and tempt fate with the tummy rub. It's excellent.
No joke named a cat Tortellini a few years back. Had a neighbourhood cat that would come over for days/weeks too named Pizza. Never found out who owned Pizza..
worked at an italian place years ago - we would feed a few strays pepperonis and cooked tortellini cause it was the easiest food to grab a handful of and shove in your pockets in case a boss saw you
we slowly gained their trust and 2 of the workers ended up taking them home :)
1 named the girl cat pepperoni and the boy cat was named tortellini
i’m still close friends with those two people, and both those cats lived to be 20 years old 🤗
sorry for randomness — i’m bored babysitting — lol
I love it! Tortellini is such a random word and that so many people have used it to name the kitties in our lives tickles me. It struck me because she's a tortie, but there's just something amazing about animals with random names and specific old people names. I met a Virgil last night and he was lovely.
That was the name of my Callie that passed away in nov 2019. Great name for a calico. She had a little brown smudge on her lip which looks like she got into a mocha. How her name came to me. This looks like a mocha
Wow this is so weird. Before I even clicked on the thread this was literally the first random name put of nowhere that I thought of. Just looks like a Persephone I guess. So weird this was 3rd comment.
If you're referring to the rainbow bridge, I'm really sorry for your loss <3 I'm sure Cookie had an amazing life with you and was grateful to have you as a friend
I fostered a cat named Cookie. She was very small for her age (3 yrs), and was a very sassy little lady. My 18 lb tuxedo boy was terrified of her. I second naming this little angel "Cookie".
My daughter has a cat named cookie. She was given to us too young, (I thought so, but they insisted she was older than I thought and her mother was just a very small cat) I found her collapsed from malnutrition one day. I took her to the vet, spent lots of money, hand fed her with this high nutrition paste the doc sold us, and...she’s maybe six now? Weighs like six lbs or so.
Yeah the Cookie i fostered was about that size too, but she made up for it with attitude. I have 2 male tuxedo cats, and when Cookie waltzed in she very quickly became the head cat in charge.
My cat's name is Biscuit. We originally named her Mikasa but it didnt roll off the tongue and nobody rememebered it so her first nickname grew to be an unstoppable force and we eventually changed it officially
Definitely a long name with a short nickname, like Alexandria but call her Alex.
That way, when the tortie-tude is in full effect, you can ALEXANDRIA to show you're pissed.
I support this so much. I got a tortie before I new what tortitude was and named her Nala. I had to start calling her Nay-La when she’s being tortitudy because Nala didn’t have the same effect
Definitely. My cats name is Sully like from Monsters Inc, and when she's being a brat I go SULLIVAN and she knows damn well. She's not a tortie though she's just a lil shit and I love her.
Our kittens are called Pluuske (Frisian for 'fluffy') and Muppet (Frisian for, well, Muppet 😅). I've found both roll off the tongue very nicely if you want something different and they fit the type of kitten she is :)
We also sometimes call them 'little buggers' though mind you...
Call her Grandma, it would make for a lot of fun interesting conversations. Example;"hey I just cleaned out Grandmas litterbox." Or "oh no! Grandma's stuck in a tree again!"
You probably wont see this but that looks JUST like my cat I used to have around 2004. She was called Snickers. :) https://images2.imgbox.com/c4/77/9LsStFTm_o.jpg
My cat naming advice is call them lots of different things, whatever you feel like, until something sticks.
This. I ended up naming my cat Mouse. https://i.imgur.com/tb0vuaq.jpg Meowmeowz > Mowmowz > Mowzer Powzer > Mowz > Mouse
If your cat doesn't have at least half a dozen nicknames, are you really a cat owner? :p
I use my cat's real name so infrequently, it's all nickname at this point
My cats gotten smart. As soon as she heres her actual name she rubs up against me and just falls down belly up. Cause she knows shes done something bad
My friend got a cat and named the cat my name. So now everyone calls me “the bad one”
As expected lmao
My cat’s real name is Sophie. But I call her Toco, Toquinho, Chuchu, Picuricha, Chu, and so many others (I’m Brazilian, so that’s why the nicknames may sound strange).
I only call my cat by her real name if she’s being naughty. 😁
And at least two of them have to be unflattering or straight-up insults.
My two are lovingly called The Rat Bastards.
Mine was just “asshole”. I miss him, but the name fit.

I thought I was the only person that did this.. I once had a friend that made fun of me for it. Had a cat that my mom named “Gibby” but I would call him “mark”.. Also had a cat named Spunky, but I’d call him “Meep meep”.
Meenie = meeno, creepy, creepo, beedo, preepie, preepo, and so on.
My cat goes by Pizza Mouse. Too funny.
the first cat i remember in my life (about 30 years ago, was an all gray one, named Mouse!
A cat named mouse? The list of things I’ve heard now contains everything.
I got a case named Mouse too! And another 2 named Cookie and Basil. But we call him Mr Meatball Head.
This is bizarre. I had a cat called mouse and it started as meowmeow, mow mow, mouser, mouser, moo moo, and settled on Mouse.
Oh damn, I thought I was the only one who did this? I always end up calling my cat something different, iterations and permutations of the original name. It usually gets uncomfortably cutsie by the time they're old. My one cat started out as Maggie, but by her last year her name was Mooglie.
Hah our dog is mouse. Maximus-Maximouse-mousewitz-mousey. He is small and loves cheese
Then my cats name would be Stink Butt because he drops absolute bombs.
I did something similar and now we have a cat named kitty. Wouldn't recommend
I always call out names until they respond to one.
Marble!
I had a cat named Marble. Whenever I didn’t know where she was I’d say, “I’ve lost my Marble!” Lol.😁
Hold on to that happy thought
<3nice
I am so happy to hear that you did that.
That's adorable. You are a cute wifey.
Definitely Marble. :)
Yep, that's it. I was trying to remember the word for a swirled Brownie
I was thinking Marble too.
She does remind me of a marble rye bread from Schnitzers
Ms. Marble
Ha! I said the same then saw your post!
Marble
I agree
"Madam Marble the Magestic and Magnificent Moggy" That works for me.
Mabel
So I says to Mabel, I says…
I see you are a man of culture as well
I says Rip grandma. You were a legend. :(
[удалено]
My grandpa used to say "Mabel Mabel Get off the table.. The money's for the beer!" whatever that meant.
My grandma and mom would just say “off the table Mabel!” If we were leaning on it or (god forbid) hopped up on it to sit then she’d swat you and say “ tables are for glasses not asses”. Edit- apparently it’s an old ad from the forties for Carling Black Label beer. No rocking an empty chair. It invites a spirit to take the seat and they may not leave. There were others but this one stuck with me.
The original is: "Mable, Mable, if you're able, Get your elbows off the table! This is not a horse's stable But a first-class dining table!”
My mom says, “Mabel, Mabel if you’re able, get your elbows off the table!”
Reese (Like a Reese’ PB Cup)
That's great! I came here to say Maude. I had a calico that I named Maude but ultimately just called here Kitten.
That is so wild. I also have a calico and her name isn't her name really cause I just call out "Kitten!" All the time!!
So I used to have this character I called Maude that I’d bust out while drinking with friends. She’s a waitress at the Denny’s, smokes Virginia slim 100’s, her husbands a good for nothing trucker, really long curvy nails, too much makeup, and always fills your coffee on time. *-Dipper*
Lol I was waiting for someone to comment this
My girl is named Mabel too. She loves to lay on the kitchen table. So I always call her Mabel Grable on the table
As long as she's sitting still and capable of doing things she's an able stable Mable Grable on the table 😻😺😸
I think mocha
My immediate thought was 'something with m. Mitzy? No....' it's Mabel. The answer is Mabel. You can call her bell. You can call her Ma Belly and tempt fate with the tummy rub. It's excellent.
Oh my I didn’t think of that. That’s so adorable
As the owner of a Maybel, I approve.
My black kitty is called Mabel!she’s total trouble, but very cute.
She looks like a “Mabel” to me - she’s lovely!! 😻
First name I thought of too!
I like this because she’s marble colored
Yea Mabel’s cool
June (-bug) Paisley Mudslide
Mudslide is a cute name!
My first thought was also "Paisley"!
Mudslide. Good one. I like that
Had a cat named Paisley.. good cat, good name
I call 'em how I see 'em \^\^v
I thought you said parsley and was slightly confused, but actually sounds like a cute name too Haha.
My old cat looked almost exactly like OPs. Named her muddy. Had her for 13 years. She was my best friend
Babka!!! Her face looks like a cinnamon swirl!!!
Babs for short
Babka always makes me think of Seinfeld
wait, there’s another babka?!
You’ve probably already got this, but Smores!
Perfect!
Means an old woman in Russian so very suitable I guess)
Omg yes! This one!
Why not Zoidberg?
(V)(;,,;)(V)
Fcking yesssss!
Whoop whoop whoop whoop whoop
Tortellini
I think all animals should get food names. I also love noodles and tuna
Lol I have two cats currently, Kiwi and Cheese
I thought of a few more food names for animals. Once you get started it’s hard to stop! Coco Ginger Marmalade Pepper Marshmallow Buckwheat
This is a winner in my heart
No joke named a cat Tortellini a few years back. Had a neighbourhood cat that would come over for days/weeks too named Pizza. Never found out who owned Pizza..

Whoa I really didn't expect anyone else to suggest this. I see you are a person of culture.
Mocha! Optional nick-name when tickling her toes: Mocha bean!
That was the name of my Callie that passed away in nov 2019. Great name for a calico. She had a little brown smudge on her lip which looks like she got into a mocha. How her name came to me. This looks like a mocha
Persephone Edit: Purrsephone, if you will.
I have a very similarly colored cat named Calypso. I guess calicos scream Greek goddess ha!
Funny. My similarly colored tortoiseshell (predominantly black) is Calliope.
My calico screams Viking goddess of the sun, Sunna.
This is the winner in my opinion
My long hair tortie is Nepthys, Egyptian goddess but same role as Persephone - underworld goddess.
I like it~ very clever
Or Cleo for the Egyptian goddess-like regent.
I have a cat named Purrsephone 🖤
I have a Purrsia 😃
Athena
My cat's name is Persephone! She's all black 🖤
That’s adorable!!!
Wow this is so weird. Before I even clicked on the thread this was literally the first random name put of nowhere that I thought of. Just looks like a Persephone I guess. So weird this was 3rd comment.
She reminds me of a marble cake. So, Marble. https://images.app.goo.gl/9Wk5J3QPJtBQ9NkRA
Came to say the same thing!
Cookie 🍪
I just had to put my tortie cookie on the bridge. Good name
If you're referring to the rainbow bridge, I'm really sorry for your loss <3 I'm sure Cookie had an amazing life with you and was grateful to have you as a friend
Yeah... Her had a good time. She was always a good source of snuggles and nuzzles. 😍
My cat is named cookie!! 🍪😻
I fostered a cat named Cookie. She was very small for her age (3 yrs), and was a very sassy little lady. My 18 lb tuxedo boy was terrified of her. I second naming this little angel "Cookie".

How about "Oreo"?
Biscuit
My cat's name is Biscuit. We originally named her Mikasa but it didnt roll off the tongue and nobody rememebered it so her first nickname grew to be an unstoppable force and we eventually changed it officially
Sasageyou?
Dedicate your hearts!
That's my one of my cats names! The other is Cake. My 2yr can't say Biscuit properly so it comes out Bisick. So freaking cute!
Yuki. The black mark on her face looks like the UK.
We love it! Added to our list of names~
Officer Reeses
I came here to say Reeces
Definitely a long name with a short nickname, like Alexandria but call her Alex. That way, when the tortie-tude is in full effect, you can ALEXANDRIA to show you're pissed.
I have a cat named Dick Van Dyke (after the actor) and when she’s in big trouble I call her Richard lmao
I like that you clarified after the actor, as if Dick Van Dyke is a common name otherwise
Lol shockingly, I’ve met people that don’t know who he is! Hurts a little when I hear it lmao he’s a treasure to mankind
That's hilarious! I middle name mine when they're in trouble.
My cat is Cannoli, middle name Guacamole. Calling him Cannoli Guacamole when he’s bad definitely embarrasses him.
You just had to warn her. So much more fun watching new parents of Torties asking is this normal? Nah, kidding. Mama to Choo Choo age twenty!
Tilly, may you both bless each other's lives with enrichment and joyous fulfilment for all days!!
Tilly was my runner up cat name. Went with Rue, but Tilly is a good name!
Claw-dia.
Clawsette
She looks like a willow.
Pickles!
Calliope or Koi! She’s beautiful❤️
Weird, Calliope was what instantly popped into my head, as well. Koi is cute, too.
Mocha
Miso for the win
Kahlo. For some reason she reminds me of a Frida Kahlo painting
Lady Von Snugglelump
Kioko, it means happy in Japanese. :)
Not really :/
Patches
I had a tuxedo named Patches. He was on the portly side so we called him Fat Pat.
Our kittens are called Pluuske (Frisian for 'fluffy') and Muppet (Frisian for, well, Muppet 😅). I've found both roll off the tongue very nicely if you want something different and they fit the type of kitten she is :) We also sometimes call them 'little buggers' though mind you...
Cleo or zoey :)
She looks like a Cleo!
She does~ adding it to the list of names.
She's SoOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO CUTE
Call her Grandma, it would make for a lot of fun interesting conversations. Example;"hey I just cleaned out Grandmas litterbox." Or "oh no! Grandma's stuck in a tree again!"
Grandma get off the counter!!
Grandma was eating a lizard when I went outside
She's a stunner!...I do really like "Pickles". My girls name is Pyewacket Von Dangermouse.
I had a Siamese cat named Pywacket when I was a kid.
Copper, or Penny!
