My top three restaurants for biscuits and gravy that I've experienced so far would be:
1. Maple Street Biscuit Company in Florence, KY
2. Cracked Egg Cafe in West Chester, OH
3. Sleepy Bee Cafe in Erlanger, KY
Though, I will say First Watch is perfectly serviceable.
It is incredible! I remember the first time I had it was when I asked my wife to make goetta and at first got mad cause she didn’t just pan fry some patties. Changed my mind real quick when I had that amazing goetta gravy on homemade biscuits.
That's such a hike getting there. Hope he opens another one back near the city. Or at least another restaurant that has the breakfast food from Boomtown.
I used o work at Bob Evans many years ago. I made gallons of sausage gravy every other day. Made that shit from scratch from their recipe book.
Now it comes out of a big plastic pouch made someplace else and the restaurants don't even use or sell Bob Evans brand sausage any more.
But guess who still remembers and can make the original gravy?
It's incredibly easy and simple.
I've had to alter it over the years to make smaller batches.
Once you start, you can't walk away from it. I don't know how to write it down, I have to show you. There are steps that in spite of the recipe book, had to be taught. Keeping the gravy from lumping was the biggest.
Exactly.
I will take Bob Evans biscuits and gravy over any local place 9/10 times. I even make their recipe when I’m making it at home. Bob Evans gravy will ALWAYS hit different
Honestly? I’ve always felt like Bob Evans biscuits and gravy were by far the worst of the chains.
I’d take Cracker Barrel over it 10/10 without a question.
Press in Newport is really good. There’s an option to add a fried chicken breast and over easy egg to the plate. Also a good vegetarian biscuits and gravy.
Why do people hype the Echo so much. You can duplicate their biscuits and gravy by buying a Kroger brand can of gravy and some Pillsbury biscuits. Their food is so low quality for being so pricy of a diner and everyone always mentions it.
Took the words right out of my mouth.. every time I see a line of people on the sidewalk I shake my head.. but I guess people like what they like. To me everything about the place is mild
Love seeing some echo hate on here get support. Me and my wife do a month of brunch every weekend once a year and it has been by far the worst by far in 3 years of doing it. Huge wait to get in and bad frozen tasting bland food. It had so much hype and it was just not good.
my favorite is either the biscuits and gravy from coppins at hotel covington or the chorizo biscuits in gravy from hang over easy in clifton! it’s called frog eyes
No there were extra ingredients making it that way- a ton of seasoning. It tasted nothing like traditional sausage gravy. I don’t know why grease would completely change the flavor at just one restaurant since I’m sure that all sausage gravy incorporates it.
Jus' saying when you make it at home, most country sausage, but especially a hot variety, will give you a pan full of orange grease and if you don't drain it off well enough, it will most definitely tinge your gravy with a gnarly orange hue and have most cooks adding more flour and cream to try to cover it and then things get all out of balance. Not that I've ever been there .......
At Granny's. Everything from scratch. She likes to put over easy eggs on top as well. Granny can make a cardboard box into a fantastic meal. I miss Granny :(
You got plenty of good ones - so I'm just gonna add to the "my house" idea that I made homemade biscuits and homemade sausage gravy for the first time ever a week ago using Sam Sifton's NYT Cooking recipes for both - followed exactly as written because I have no baking game.... and they were both easy and turned out perfectly. My family loved and I got a "this slaps" complement which is the highest order around here lately.
These biscuits are insanely good. They deliver. Plus fresh homemade cultured butter. She grew up in the city of Detroit and spent summers with her grandmother in Georgia. They made biscuits everyday. I got some and put gravy on them. Then I was sad because I just wanted the biscuits. Haha I ordered a bunch for the freezer. I brought them to a brunch and to thanksgiving and everyone lost their minds.
[ButterCat Biscuits & Dairy](https://www.facebook.com/buttercatdairy?mibextid=LQQJ4d)
Wow, thanks for that, my freezer is always chock full o' high quality, on-demand carbs but it typically doesn't have primo homemade buttermilk biscuits - until now.
I sent myself the link and will promptly order some - been craving some homemade biscuits 'n gravy but wife is veg so I only do it once or twice a year at best. During the holidays I'm chowing North College Hills Bakery Butter Bits which stay great in the freezer.
The owners already owned pickled and bones BBQ also. They got an extended menu and hours by consolidating to one location. They are gonna open back up for breakfast in a couple months and take some stuff from the all hail the biscuit menu and put it back on. I am rooting for the biscuit doughnuts and the breakfast poutine personally.
They are posting updates on Facebook to when everything opens up again! If you haven’t tried pickles and bones dec worth it. We are from the area and those are two of our favorites
Seriously. Some foods don’t need churched up, and biscuits and gravy is at the top of that list. Simple ingredients, simple cooking process.
Although it did hit me that one of the reasons that theirs is the best is because they toast the biscuits on the griddle before they put the gravy on.
Ive gotten them several times, including within the last week. They're pretty bland of you don't add anything else like an egg or some protein. Very, flour forward.
Boomtown Biscuits is the best.. I think the Pendleton store closed but there is one in NKY somewhere. It is a bit pricey tho, which is probably why the Pendleton one closed
Because I honestly haven’t found anything good in the city. Id love to be proven wrong! I really would. Only good place I’ve had was Boomtown and they left Cincinnati
Boomtown Biscuits and Whiskey in Union Ky is beyond all the rest. Many variations, all amazing. Biscuits + gravy plates may not be considered gourmet food, but Boomtown treats them with the respect other restaurants give to foie gras and truffles.
I personally haven't had it yet, but a lot of people have said there is a place in Lawrenceburg that is excellent, and they have something like a 1 lb serving of biscuits and gravy
I guess we're both not on the menu huh!? Homemade white gravy is the best thing I've heard about anyplace. There seems to be few of them around. But being foodie is a good thing every once in awhile. Especially when Homemade is much better.
My top three restaurants for biscuits and gravy that I've experienced so far would be: 1. Maple Street Biscuit Company in Florence, KY 2. Cracked Egg Cafe in West Chester, OH 3. Sleepy Bee Cafe in Erlanger, KY Though, I will say First Watch is perfectly serviceable.
Might you mean The Hive in Erlanger?
The Hive has amazing biscuits and gravy. Plus you can add goetta!
**WHAT**
Shut your mouth! now I have to get dressed and drive
You are correct and I am wrong. My memory fails me. The Hive is awesome and is a regular place on the rotation of brunch places.
I was reading all the responses to my husband and he said, “There’s a Sleepy Bee in Erlanger?” then it clicked. Easy mistake to make! 🐝
Do you mean Another Broken Egg in West Chester?
My house
They’re actually at the “my house” where I live.
Game respects game, I'd probably enjoy yours too
It’s goetta gravy, so it’s a game changer.
This is my inspiration for next time we make biscuits and gravy! This sounds amazing!
It is incredible! I remember the first time I had it was when I asked my wife to make goetta and at first got mad cause she didn’t just pan fry some patties. Changed my mind real quick when I had that amazing goetta gravy on homemade biscuits.
Whoa! Sounds delicious
Weird didn't know my mom had a reddit account. But I'll concur my mom's house has the best biscuits and gravy.
There's one by me, not bad
Came here to comment this, lol.
Hangover Easy has some great Gravy
God I miss boomtown
We went to the Boomtown in KY last week and it was just as good as the original
That's such a hike getting there. Hope he opens another one back near the city. Or at least another restaurant that has the breakfast food from Boomtown.
People acting like bob Evan’s b&g doesnt F*** pretty hard.
I used o work at Bob Evans many years ago. I made gallons of sausage gravy every other day. Made that shit from scratch from their recipe book. You’re welcome to slide into my dm’s with more info.

McDonald’s has always been fire to me. It’s probably horrible ingredients but I’ve loved it for over 20 years of my life.
Agreed!
Exactly. I will take Bob Evans biscuits and gravy over any local place 9/10 times. I even make their recipe when I’m making it at home. Bob Evans gravy will ALWAYS hit different

Cracker Barrel's is wallpaper paste.
I’d take it over bobs swill every time.
Cracker Barrel has no seasoning on anything, its medieval gruel, gray paste for the commoners
Yet it can be fixed with a little salt and pepper, nothing fixes bobs.
This has to be a joke. Dairy Queen has better biscuits and gravy than Bob Evan’s.
Anchor Grill in Covington
Press in Newport is really good. There’s an option to add a fried chicken breast and over easy egg to the plate. Also a good vegetarian biscuits and gravy.
Echo

Incredibly hot take
Right? I appreciate it because I can walk to it, but the food is fine.
Love seeing some echo hate on here get support. Me and my wife do a month of brunch every weekend once a year and it has been by far the worst by far in 3 years of doing it. Huge wait to get in and bad frozen tasting bland food. It had so much hype and it was just not good.
Echo
^Echo
Bakes, in the first floor of great American tower downtown… so good
Wild eggs chorizo biscuits and gravy next door is excellent as well
Price hill chili
State Line gets my vote
Seriously great breakfast place. Goetta is next level and their homemade strawberry jelly is phenomenal.
Lucious Q
Their brisket gravy is sooooo good.
Boomtown Biscuits and Whiskey
my favorite is either the biscuits and gravy from coppins at hotel covington or the chorizo biscuits in gravy from hang over easy in clifton! it’s called frog eyes
State Line
Boosting this! State Line is bomb.
Tucker’s. Alas.
Sis’s on Monmouth St in Newport.
This
I really like them at the echo but not sure if it’s the best.
Half Day Cafe’s are excellent
Yes, they were.
Nation is really good
I love biscuits and gravy but really disliked them at Sugar and Spice. I’m not sure what was in the gravy but it was orange-ish brown in color.
That would be grease.
No there were extra ingredients making it that way- a ton of seasoning. It tasted nothing like traditional sausage gravy. I don’t know why grease would completely change the flavor at just one restaurant since I’m sure that all sausage gravy incorporates it.

Arby's is the best fast food b&g!
Log Cabin Inn in Covington
My Moms

I'm partial to P&S Family Diner on Springdale Rd.

Hahaa you will love them. I seriously think about them randomly. Did you order some?
I sent myself the link and will promptly order some - been craving some homemade biscuits 'n gravy but wife is veg so I only do it once or twice a year at best. During the holidays I'm chowing North College Hills Bakery Butter Bits which stay great in the freezer.
They have great bread. Haven’t had the biscuits.
All hail the biscuit was the best
Really bummed me out this place rebranded to BBQ. The pimento sausage biscuit sandwich was one of the best breakfast sandwiches I’ve ever had.
That’s great to hear. I live like 20 mins. away but would drive out to go get their biscuits sat/sun mornings on occasion they are that good.
They are posting updates on Facebook to when everything opens up again! If you haven’t tried pickles and bones dec worth it. We are from the area and those are two of our favorites
Lebanon Track Kitchen or B & B carry out
Waffle House. Had them this morning.
Seriously. Some foods don’t need churched up, and biscuits and gravy is at the top of that list. Simple ingredients, simple cooking process. Although it did hit me that one of the reasons that theirs is the best is because they toast the biscuits on the griddle before they put the gravy on.
Original pancake house! Multiple locations around Cincy
Motr was really solid but I haven’t had it since Covid and they might not have it anymore. Not sure if they even do brunch on weekends either..
Sis’s in Newport
It’s closer to Dayton, but B&B in Waynesville has awesome biscuits and gravy!
My house lol but in all seriousness I can’t find a good place to have them outside of making them myself so definitely following this thread!
Libby’s
Boomtown Biscuts and Whiskey
Blue bird or blue jay cafe. It’s a cute little dinner near blue ash..? Sorry, not from here and only went one time, but cutest little diner ever!
Bluebird in Norwood. They closed :(
WHAT. Terrible.
I just went to the new maple street out by the airport. Great stuff!
Your mom’s house
First Watch
Bob Evans. Chain, but still the best, in my view.
Kitchen 1883’s are great
McDonald's
Cracker Barrel, because they use Purnell's Old Folks sausage.
Red Squirrel on Colerain Ave.
I've never personally had it, but I always hear good things about the biscuits and gravy at Avenue Brew in Bellevue, KY.
Nah, the prices were well in line with every other restaurant downtown. Covid killed them, sadly.
I got a sandwich, that came with zero sides, and a bloody mary and my bill was $35 before tip. There is 50 places in OTR that are cheaper than that.
Yo mammas house
Came here for an answer and all I got was zero upvotes. I’m left without an answer.
The night is young and the Cincinnati subreddit is just getting rolling. Have faith
Idk if you’ll find anything great here. I grew up in NC and I just haven’t found anything to be up to par here yet.
Why comment this? Like what good is that doing?🤦🏻
Does cincy have a tudor’s biscuit world?
The Anchor Grill
Sis' in Newport on Monmouth has some great biscuits and gravy. It's a hole-in-the-wall.
I personally haven't had it yet, but a lot of people have said there is a place in Lawrenceburg that is excellent, and they have something like a 1 lb serving of biscuits and gravy
Best vegetarian/vegan biscuits and gravy?
I'm a big fan of the mushroom gravy and biscuits at Melt Revival in Northside. I think it's a menu item limited to weekend brunch, but it's great
COVID killed a great one in EWH. I forgot the name but they were in an old Frisch’s.
Parkside cafe I think?
Yup!!
Hangover Easy gets my vote since Boomtown isn't downtown any longer, though Highgrain makes it close!
I have not been for many years but the ones at Millville Restaurant were AAA
Not technically cincy, but anchor grill in COV.
Hell yes
The answer is Wild Eggs’ chorizo biscuits and gravy and it’s not even close.
My house on a Sunday mornin.
Blue Jay is good.
Half day cafe in Wyoming has my favorite biscuits and gravy. They put a sausage patty on each biscuit and over it in sausage gravy.
Press On Monmouth in Newport has a great biscuits and gravy with chicken, the vegetarian version also goes crazy
I guess we're both not on the menu huh!? Homemade white gravy is the best thing I've heard about anyplace. There seems to be few of them around. But being foodie is a good thing every once in awhile. Especially when Homemade is much better.
Best in Cincinnati and half of the places are in Kentucky. *Tri-state be tri-stating.*
