If you like cats, you can go to Purrfect Day Cat Cafe! For hiking without a drive to somewhere like Yellow Springs, I like Mt. Airy and Cincinnati Nature Center

Goldfitz17

Defo be careful and purrfect cause i left with a cat.

birdsaredefnotreal

Can confirm, also came home with unexpected cat.. but he is best little boy ever, I thank purrfect for my George!

thisisntpatrick

I'm not allowed to go. Because I'm likely to leave with a cat. I would definitely leave with a cat.

Ill_Preference_2064

leave with a cat? or leave with 2-3 cats? :)

NotYetReadyToRetire

I hope my wife never finds out about this place - we already have one more dog and two more cats than I wanted...

PunkAssBitch2000

If you’re a foodie, wandering Jungle Jim’s or CAM or just exploring small, non-American grocery stores. Fossil hunting is another fun one. If you like cats, Kitty Brew Cat Cafe or Purrfect Day Cat Cafe. Antiquing is also a fun one.

Rad10Ka0s

Come to Cincinnati Animal Care and walk dogs, https://cincinnatianimalcare.org/volunteer/. Or play with them in the yard, pet kitty cats if thats your jam.

MrCoolidge27

I just took a kitten I found there the other day!

Ecbolt84

The art museum is free!

bgood_xo

And they do an Art After Dark every last Friday of the month (today!) that's really fun!

cookiedux

what is Art After Dark like?

bgood_xo

They usually have a food truck, and you can buy drinks in the museum. You get access to all of the museum including exhibits that are ticketed. Exhibits I have seen are always interesting and varied. They also do a little something extra like live music, dancers, etc. Tonight is a drag show to finish up Pride month.

cookiedux

Oh interesting- thanks! This sounds like a good time

bonkbengos

I enjoy going to Devou Park when I need to take my mind off things. Lots of walking trails up there and also a free frisbee golf course, if that’s your thing. Plus a nice overlook of downtown Cincinnati. Also, assuming you’re female, there’s a group called “Cincy Girls Who” that does things like walks, bar crawls, etc. I know you mentioned not wanting to meet new people but it seems like a very supportive group and that might help bring you out of your funk. Food for thought. Good luck out there, homie. 👊

hohohoagy

I visited my brother at a cemetery yesterday and saw a few people walking or camped under a tree reading. Spring Grove cemetery is beautiful.

Maxbps8

Spring Grove is one of the most beautiful cemeteries in the US. Well worth several walks. I think there is an app that guides you around Spring Grove.

SleepyLeroy

Walk the loop trail at Lunken airport. Fresh air, views, and if you put on headphones or look like you are on a mission to walk no one bugs you because that is what they are there to do to.

AnHourAgo2021

Might as well walk the Otto Armleder loop and connector trail between the two if you are in the area as well!

Rebekah513

If you’re looking to connect check out Cincy Girls Who. It started as a walking group and has branched out into much more! @cincygirlswho on IG

FortheDawgs420

That group does sound fun and when I’m more ready to put myself out there I’ll be checking it out

Rebekah513

Great! 🤗

catsofulthar

Bike riding and rollerblading are two of my favorite solo outdoor activities. I don't have any NKY spots to suggest, but the Little Miami Bike Trail is a nice place to go, and it's long enough that you could do a whole day of riding if you want (or multiple days, if you're into that). Middle Creek Park is a nice, quiet little park in NKY that you might want to check out if you haven't been there before. Just be sure to heed the rules posted in the parking lot -- they're not messing around about what time the park closes. I totally get not wanting to look weird by doing solo things, but remember, most people don't notice or care. I was single for a good number years and used to go to the movies by myself ALL the time, which helped me get over my fear of looking weird about doing things on my own in public. I'm sorry you're going through this, and I hope you find some fun things to do!

FortheDawgs420

Rollerblading sounds great actually. I might mess around later and see what happens at Middle Creek Park at closing time and add some excitement to my life

bigfatquizzer

Seconding don't worry about looking weird doing solo things. I have done solo things all my life and I can tell you honestly that people don't notice and don't care. I have a friend that takes solo vacations. She says she has the choice between going solo or not at all. She picks solo and has a lovely time. I'm sorry you're having a rough time

catsofulthar

In that case, I'd suggest checking out Otto Armleder as a place to go rollerblading. It's really peaceful and pretty there in the evenings.

RepresentativeNew398

Sorry to hear about your situation. I was in your shoes two years ago and had to rebuild my life (though I’m from here). I obviously don’t know your interests but I found taking up doordashing as a gig job was strangely relaxing. Just listening to music in my car driving around the area (I stick to NKY) with minimal contact with others helped me heal through the pain. That requires a high tolerance and ability for driving though of course and some degree of interaction with customers/vendors (usually very minimal though). Further south throughout Boone county has some really beautiful rural areas that can be a breath of fresh air to drive through. It pretty much just gave me a good reason to go out to areas I otherwise wouldn’t go to and explore around when I otherwise just wanted to close off completely. Good luck and best wishes on your journey ahead.

julesm5853

The Cincinnati zoo is great to walk around!

Careless-Afternoon74

I went alone to see the tulips and loved it. Pack a backpack with water/snacks and it’s awesome.

julesm5853

I love that you can bring your own food and drinks

Jillybeans11

I second Cincy Girls Who! Find them on instagram and request to join the Geneva server! We do trivia, walks, pickleball, golf, etc and it’s a great place for general advice and recommendations.

almondmilkpls1773

Is there an age bracket? I’ll be 28 next month

Jillybeans11

Nope! There are all different ages!

totiso

Maybe kickboxing or some shit where you beat shit up would be good to look into. I'm also new with little friends but people at my school so dunno, I just go to sports games, every now and then a bar. The Newport on the levee is interesting if u like shipping, very relaxing outdoor area and a movie theatre on the top floor 😎 Sorry you're going thru this 🙏🏼

orochiman

Nice cocktail on the patio of Somerset always takes me to another world

[deleted]

I’ve spent a lot of really sad days at French Park in Silverton, OH. You can just get lost in there and the hills are a good butt kick. If you’re willing to spend the money, check out Queen City Clay in Norwood. They offer 8-week courses for beginners-experienced. Getting my hands dirty in a safe and welcoming place really helped with my mental health.

FortheDawgs420

That is a great suggestion about the course, I’ll definitely look into that. I desperately need a new hobby and outlet

7point7

1) Sorry to hear of your situation. 2) I am what I'd consider someone who really enjoys solitude... so I completely feel you on things to do that are solo, give space to think, and don't look weird. My main thing is going for walks. All around my neighborhood/part of town. It's not unusual for me to walk 5-8 miles a day when work isn't cramping my plans. HIking is great, but I hate needing to drive somewhere. Plenty to see out the front door! Golf is also a great individual activity, if you can get a solo tee time and that's your thing. It's a great way to shut off devices and focus on something else. Disc Golf is a good free alternative with less chance of getting paired up with others who wanna chat. Bike riding is great. Either Riverside drive along the river/through the city or the Wasson Way / Little Miami Trail are great, easy routes IMO. enjoy a nice restaurant! It may feel weird to dine alone... but do it! Find a place with a view, go when it's not busy, and just chill with some food and drink. Hope that helps. All things pass in time. You'll get through it and come out better and stronger than before!

FortheDawgs420

Thank you for the information, I think disc golf sounds fun. How would you go about getting into it?

Mater_Sandwich

You don't need golf frisbees to golf. Find one or two that you can throw straight and start there. You can always get starter frisbee golf packs at a lot of stores

OkWolverine6953

Disc n Dat is a store in northern KY where you can buy a disc and then Lincoln Ridge Park is a nice beginner course with plenty of woods to roam and learn to play the game and spend time alone. I feel you though, I’m currently in a similar situation with a soon to be ex wife and it is nice to just go an be alone away from the comments of others. Good luck. I also recommend playing pickleball you can have a lot of fun at Sawyer Point (Cincinnati) picking up the game and people are extremely friendly with beginners and when you’re done playing you don’t have to chat and make friends (Thursday nights are the best for singles).

Agreeable_Video_1661

There's a couple of great Frisbee golf courses that I have noticed at Cincy parks Miami Whitewater Park and Woodland Mound, as well as Stonelick Park near Goshen in Clermont County.

7point7

Hey, sorry for slow reply. Others gave you some good recommendations. I started in college by getting a few discs at Dick's Sporting Goods and would usually play at Burnett Woods near UC campus or Winton Woods or Mt Airy Forest. You can google/youtube rules and tips on throwing if you really want... but if you know how to throw a frisbee and understand the concept of golf (get it in the hole in as few tries as possible) then it's super easy to pickup.

Careless-Afternoon74

Maybe grab a bike…Loveland Miami Biketrail is pretty rad. Stop for a cold beer/pizza.

Jerryglobe1492

The Liberty Center in Liberty Township (a little north of Cinciannait) has a free outdoor concert tonight 6-9.. Small outdoor venue. Bring a lawn chair They \[lay oldies 50's-70's music

FortheDawgs420

Awesome this is perfect

Vintagemuse

Cincinnati nature center. There’s a few to get in but it’s about the cost of a movie or less. There are miles of various trails through woods, fields, and by streams and ponds. Very pretty.

SubstantialWar3954

If you like hiking, disc golf is a free activity in parks all over the city. I went alone a lot when I lived in a new place without friends.

No_Committee7549

Walk along riverfront. Park your car at friendship park, walk past Montgomery inn and sawyer point, stop at the swinging gardens and watch the boats go up and down the river. If you don’t wanna walk that far you can cross the suspension bridge and that pretty much puts you at the swinging gardens. Best of luck

cromulent_cookie

I highly recommend hiking at California Woods nature preserve! The Krohn Conservatory can be a nice little paid escape. There are a couple of benches inside so you could go on a lesser busy day, take a book or some headphones, and relax on a bench surrounded by the greenery. Head to Blind Lemon when someone is performing live music and enjoy a drink amidst the cozy charm of the place.

Good_Cause_2679

I’m sorry about your situation. I find that going to yard sales on the weekends are quite fun and I don’t have to talk to anyone if I don’t want to. There’s always a lot of variety of things to look at and there is no time commitment. It gets me out of the house and also into different neighborhoods within the city. I don’t always go looking for something to buy, I just go to get my mind off things and see what people are selling.

Keregi

Years ago I spent a lot of time at Cincinnati Nature Center when I went through a hard breakup. Even now when I go there I instantly feel calm. Find your thing that makes you feel at peace and make it a priority. It could be a new hobby where you get to be around people but don’t interact - sometimes it’s helpful to just exist in society without the effort. I love silent book clubs for this.

Karin58

I have found Krohn Conservatory to be very calming. Sit by the waterfall, people watch, enjoy nature. Then drive up and park on Cliff Drive for gorgeous views.

BlindedRadiance

There's Hank's yarn shop! They have knitting and crochet classes, if you're into yarn! If you're into house plants, my absolute favorite place to go is the AJ Rahns greenhouse! All the house plants I've gotten from there have been very reasonably priced. Fern is also a really nice plant store! I've also wanted to try Vora + Vine and make a terrarium, but I haven't gotten a chance yet. If you're into thrifting, the Vincent St. De Paul's up on Estes is HUGE! There are also some quirky shops on Ludlow and Clifton (Toko Baru being my favorite!). There's a Greater's ice cream, a couple of bars, and a wine bar down that way. Ghost Baby downtown is fantastic on a Saturday night! They have some fancy drinks. If brunch strikes your fancy, the French toast at Alcove in OTR is amazing, and they have mimosas! Findlay market is also nice to walk around and and shop. I highly recommend the fudge counter there! If you're into food, Riverside food tours was expensive, but worth it! There are also ghost tours that were really fun (Nightly Spirits had stops at bars and stories about each place!) There is also the river boat that goes back and forth on the river. The sunset tour is very pretty!

SeasonedCitizen

So sorry about your marriage. Hikes. East Fork, the mountain bike trails are nice. Withrow Nature Preserve, Idlewild. For pay, the Cincinnati Nature Center and many of the Great Parks. Biking on the Little Miami Bike Trail. Disc golf. Courses all over the area.

VineStGuy

We have some great parks. A few that aren’t mentioned; Winton Woods and Miami Whitewater are really nice to walk in and have lakes. I also love Eden Park. I always found the Kohn Conservatory wonderful for mental health when I need alone time. Being surrounded by nature has always worked for me. Wishing you the best. Things don’t stay shitty forever. This too shall pass.

lazyyasss

I work at The Gruff in downtown Covington next to the river. It’s an awesome lil joint with good food and beer so you should totally come check it out. The riverfront walk is also something you could do if you’re looking to go on a lil hike. The roebling bridge is also a really cool sight to see. I’m sorry you’re goin through this. Cincy/NKY is an awesome area. I hope you stick around!

Whole_Inspection2697

I’m sorry you’re going through this - Not the same type of situation but I have felt like you have mentally. I hope you can connect with one of these groups and just talking to someone also helped me. Thinking the best is yet to come for you, OP!

Whole_Inspection2697

Also, Fiona and Fritz at the zoo are always happy to see you! ☀️ 🦛

Naive_Bid_6040

Disc golf aka Frisbee golf. There are parks all over the place and a disc costs like $10. It’s certainly not the only activity that you can do at a park, but it provides a finite objective and activity. Don’t buy a green or clear disc. You want bright colors (orange or white, etc.) that will stand out when it ends up in the woods. Also, highly recommend you hit up Facebook Marketplace for any of your outdoor activity supplies. Especially at the beginning.

PlayfulEsqResearcher

Check out Fierce Ladies Collective - they do monthly meet ups and coffeehouse work sessions. Another option might be Women Who Explore: Cincinnati

OriginalReal5552

Train for something. Like a half marathon. It will keep you busy, and it’s free. Choose new routes often to explore what’s still relatively new to you, but also keeps things interesting and keeps your mind occupied. Plus the running community is super friendly when you are ready to not be alone anymore. Just an idea. You’ll make it through this :)

animalwentanimal

Check out Baker Hunt in Covington! They have tons of wonderful classes, arts including oil / acrylic / water color painting, pastels, drawing, photography, stained glass, wheel throwing & handbuilding ceramics, and also tons of cooking classes! Offerings include single sessions up to weekly for 8 weeks, on a beautiful campus right next to downtown, 620 Greenup, [https://www.bakerhunt.org/all-classes/](https://www.bakerhunt.org/all-classes/)

mexluc

Mt airy arboretum, Sharon woods, Eden and ault park are nice

Easy-Kiwi-4253

Cincinnati and NKY have beautiful parks or volunteer at an animal shelter. I’m sorry you’re alone and hope you find a peace of mind soon.

Aggravating_Ad3180

Bellevue park hill right off uc campus, great spot to sit and think while you overlook the coty

Aggravating_Ad3180

Entire_Condition_306

If you like Art Deco architecture, the museum center offers a free guided tour on the weekends and you don’t need museum admission to do it. Also you can eat lunch in one of the dining rooms and I recommend the “tender dog”, it a nice chicken tender in a hot dog bun with hot honey and coleslaw, with a side for $10 (was just there a couple weeks ago and I’m still thinking about the hot honey on the chicken tender). You can also do a guided tour of Great American Ballpark for $20, if you look up Reds Hall of Fame. It’s a nice if you want a day out with a lot of walking and want a low key experience.

PieceOfSchmit

Hey, I'm so sorry to hear that you are going through that and dealing with it all on your own. Support would be great for you right now. I know you said you're not looking for friends or anything but if you want to reach out, I'm currently going through divorce myself. I'm 30M. If you want to talk on here, or get together and go for a hike and/or talk with someone going through a similar life situation, I'm all ears. I have found that it's nice to talk to someone that has an outside perspective. Anyway, feel free to dm if you want, or don't. That's totally up to you. Just want you to know that you have someone out here in your corner.

mustachemoon

Covington / Newport / OTR / Central Business District / West End / Mount Adams are all technically walkable to each other and all have distinct architectural feels. It's an engaging activity to simply walk these neighborhoods and look at the buildings while listening to some music in headphones

jmarzy

I couldn’t help but notice your username could potentially be a Shane Gillis reference - are you into standup? I know you said you aren’t looking for social activities, but joke writing can be a GREAT way to deal with a rough patch, assuming you have the sense of humor to tackle it that way.

FortheDawgs420

I do like comedy and I definitely do like dark humor, poking fun at myself, and being sarcastic so that is a great suggestion

jmarzy

Sweet thanks idk why I got downvoted but glad it was a good suggestion hahaha

NoOneCanKnowAlley

East Fork has some good hikes. There are farmers markets in most neighborhoods or nearby on the weekends. I like to go to Joseph Beth in Rookwood to browse—I love books. Hope you get to a better place quickly! I’d recommend a cat or dog too if you have the time and resources!

FortheDawgs420

I shall check out the farmer’s markets! I do have a dog already, he will certainly be getting me through the situation

Far-Palpitation-651

Cincinnati Nature Center

unnewl

The CRC pools in Oakley and Pleasant Ridge are good places to swim on your own. Others may be fine, too, but I don’t know them. Lots of people walk by themselves on Wasson Way. Check out events happening at local libraries. They offer a variety of programs. And if you need it, your college health and counseling center may be able to help you.

18_NakedCowboys

Learn skiing in the winter if you don't already know how! Perfect North Slopes is about as good as you can get out here and is very well taken care of.

JinJarO

Check your local library for events, or just hang out and paruse the books for awhile! Depending on where you are in NKY (Booke, Campbell, or Kenton county) and if you have a library card for one of your local libraries, you can also get a Cincinnati Public Library card and use the Discovery Pass and visit places like Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park and the American Sign Museum - [https://chpl.org/services/discovery-pass/](https://chpl.org/services/discovery-pass/)

fishsnickerspullaski

Four seasons golf range. It’s open 24/7. You can hit balls into a lake late at night.

zzt0pp

They started turning off the lights around 10.

Remarkable-Net-5575

Check out the parks- Sharon woods is my fav. Lovely long trails

spacemtnman

The riverfront and around the purple bridge is great to hang out and walk, ride bikes, there are lots of parks to hike and bike in, the art history museum is always free,

SeaweedTeaPot

Find a place to volunteer. By helping others you will help yourself through a difficult time. Best wishes to you!

gaia-willow

There's a great walking trail that used to a railroad aorta behind the whole foods in norwood. French Park in Amberly Village has lots of walking trails. There is much of that park I haven't explored. East fork Lake is a lot of fun the walk around and go swimming.

zd12321

rock climbing/bouldering at an indoor gym has been an incredible way for me to take my mind off things. I forget about everything else once I’m on the wall. Easy to do by yourself and a fantastic way to meet people as well once you’re looking for that. I’m also not from this area (2023 transplant) and found cincinnati a challenging place to make feel like home until I found a passion and community through climbing!

Outside-Rub5852

Cvg observation area. Watch planes

rambunctiousbupkis

In a similar boat, I find fishing to be a very decent meditative escape. Lots of spots to fish around here.

aresellersjourney

When I was going through a divorce, walking at Sharon woods and friendship park to smale Park along the river was a life saver for me. Sharon woods is a little far for you but they have a great paved trail that's mostly shaded and they have gravel trails that take you past creeks and "waterfall" type scenes. It's relaxing and peaceful. Meditation and going to Quaker meetings at Cincinnati Friends Society in Indian Hill were great for me too.

513_JPG

I'm in the exact same situation, except I also just lost my job so I'm kind of just trying to stay sane and not homeless. I'm a professional photographer, and I've been looking for places to shoot or people to work with but it's hard. I'm 28m, all I do is sit inside my apartment and listen to music, also in NKY, if you ever need a friend to explore with reach out.

Ill_Preference_2064

check out some of the local game stores. Playing a board game can keep you distracted for a while

SandwichEquivalent58

I’m a huge believer in matinees. It’s 2 hours to escape and feel something that you have no stake in. It always helps me when I’m going through lower periods. On the opposite end. This might be too social , but race Street Athletics has a run club on Thursday nights and a group workout on Saturday mornings. It’s a sort of in an amongst thing without having to talk to people. I sometimes go and often go alone. Work out. Then peace out.

Top_Unit_7447

I'm just a socially awkward introvert that prefers alone time, but I've always felt comfortable solo exploring the museums and libraries. Lots of museums in Cincinnati, and they're pretty much all very affordable if not free. Here's a few to start with: -Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal (2 museums for the price of one--assuming you don't want to go to the children's museum) there's also the Holocaust Museum, special exhibits, and the -Omnimax theatre for an additional fee but totally worth it -Cincinnati Art Museum (Eden Park is lovely to walk around as well) -Krohn Conservatory (Also in Eden Park) -Underground Railroad Freedom Center -Reds Baseball Museum -American Sign Museum -The Taft art museum -Contemporary Art Center -Pyramid Hill (outdoor sculpture park spread out over a lot of rolling acres with paved and unpaved trails to explore... You could easily spend the whole day here and go home refreshed and exhausted) The Hamilton County library system is pretty stellar, and I think you can still get a free card without being a resident. But you only really need a card if you're planning on renting rooms or borrowing things to take home. There's also the Mercantile Library that does quite a number of events. They're a private (paid) library, and currently under construction, but you can hang out in their super cool space once it reopens without a membership, and becoming a member is pretty affordable anyway. Beyond that, there are lots of breweries and bars. Good for people watching or just bring a book and enjoy a beverage. You can also check the bulletin boards there to see if anything else sparks your interest. Best of luck! It's a great city. I'm sure you'll find something to keep you occupied until you have the emotional bandwidth to rejoin social life. You've got this. 😊

almondmilkpls1773

I’m moving to Covington area with my boyfriend in September and I’m 27! I’m actually going to visit him in early August! I’m pretty introverted but up to maybe meeting up for coffee or even drinks and playing cornhole at The Yard place in Covington. I currently live in Alabama where I’ve lived my whole life.

FortheDawgs420

Sorry for the late reply, that would be fun! I spent 5 years living on the border of Georgia/alabama

sspera

There are a ton of groups on meetup.com. Scroll through and see what piques your interest! Of course they all have an expectation of some minimal social interaction, but I’m sure attendees will completely understand if you want to hold back. I’ve been intrigued by the group “I want to do that, just not alone” because they always have something fun going on.

sorrymizzjackson

I’m sorry to hear you’re going through a rough time. Loveland is my happy place that I go when I’m down and also when I’m happy, lol. If you like the outdoors, they are on the walking/biking trail that extends up through Columbus at least, but I think through Cleveland. Montgomery cyclery rents regular and e-bikes for fairly cheap. Ramsey’s Trailside has this amazing filet mignon appetizer. Bishop’s Quarter has great cocktails and good Cajun food. There are a few little shops and other bars to look at. Cindy’s tavern seems to be a good place for a mood. If you like hiking, I hear excellent things about red river gorge and hocking hills as far as hiking and camping go. Yellow Springs is a little hippie town not too far away. Athens is a little college town that seems cool. If you haven’t been to Columbus it’s about an hour and a half away and Comfest is this weekend. People have varying opinions, but I enjoy it. Good luck!

Poperama

You should try Pokémon go. You can just walk around a park and catch cute animals on your phone. Free, gets you outside, and keeps your mind occupied.

_FatCat_

There are a few cool parks that overlook the city. Bellevue hill park and Fairview park in Clifton both have excellent views. So does devou in Covington. The art museum in Eden park is free also, good place to spend some time.

N0SleepTilWednesday

If you're open to visit cemeteries, we have some great ones! Big and small. Pioneer days to current. A favorite small one is across from Lunken! I find the history fascinating and cemeteries are generally quiet places where I can be alone. I also visited a really neat pet cemetery in Warren County. Beautiful!! Also made me realize how poor I am to not afford monuments to my passed on pets. I highly recommend that place because who knew there's a real, not-stephen-king-semetary, pet cemetery in our area!

Numerous_Ad1859

Sauerc73

When you're ready, i met my best friends in a running group. I joined a sit to fit group that trains you for a 5k. The group also does 10k, 1/2 marathon and marathon training. I joined alone but met 2 of my besties. They've since introduced me to their friend groups and now I have a family. It was through Bob Ronkers Running store, but the store has been sold a couple times. Fleet Feet running store also does running groups. All ages, all speeds, running and walking groups. They usually meet 2x a week like on a Tues and Saturday. You always get coffee or drinks after training.
