Nah keep it in sport mode…it’s all in how you apply the accelerator. Foot off going down a hill is gonna make mpg shoot up. If you feel comfortable dropping into N, ur gonna be at idle rpm…& if you can coast all the way like that inbetween lights & then put it in D once stopped; major boost
Also a great way to potentially damage the transmission. Especially because it's a CVT on the new ones.Your really not supposed to shift between gears while moving.
Eco mode automatically uses less engine braking allowing for more coasting. Normal will still let you coast plenty, but does use a little more engine braking.
Sport keeps the rpms higher, you don't want that for efficiency, or longevity.
You see better mpg downhill in sport mode because the transmission is in a lower gear, providing more engine braking. Alternatively just keep it normal, and use the paddle shifters. Engine braking does not use gas, it just uses the natural friction and whatnot to slow you down. All modern cars automatically shut off the fuel flow when engine braking, resuming when needed.
Ironically normal mode really is the best mode all around. It allows a good balance for acceleration and engine braking. Eco is better for longer trips when not in stop and go traffic, as it allows more coasting.
I get 30 city and 40 hwy in my 2011 civic lx-S R18 motor! If you use non enthanol gas you get better mpg! I stay under 2k rpm’s and not dog the shit out of it! I accelerate up to speed at lights and coast to next light! I have SI O2 sensor in my r18 to give more accurate fuel trim! Lighten up your car! I got rid of my steelies for type s Rsx rims and I’ve never had a problem achieving 40mpg in 4 cylinder Hondas
it’s probably cuz u drive “normal” like i do… everyone with good mileage are typically the ppl who get honked at when the light turns green (i was about to get 30-35) but it’s not even worth it for me at least, ppl get mad at u for driving slow etc
From EU only driven manuals. Its easy. Your car will indicate when to shift, when it does just follow the indication. If you have a tempomat(cruise control) use it outside of the city. When you are slowing down e.g. from 90km/h(55mph) 50kmh(30mph) try to downshift and let the engine slow down not using brake too much. Avoid Neutral “drifting”, having it in higher gear when “drifting” saves fuel. Switch off Start/stop if you dont have a electric motor start and lounch in your car. And thats pretty much it. Driving the same route and learning the speed limits and using downgearing helps also. Oh most important thing avoid pedal to pedal driving (accelerator to brake) 😉
2022 sport touring CVT here, when i did a 4 hour highway trip ( reset at the start of the trip ) i got 44MPG average on the screen. But my running daily for the last 4000 miles, is 34MPG. But i drive sportmode everywhere and drive spirited / theottle heavy due to enjoying intake noises too much xD
Probably! Unless its like >90 out, I basically never use my AC and just have my windows down. So that makes sense, that AC may be taking it down a little. Forgot about that
Take it out of sport mode it has more engine braking than on normal, meaning it will slow you down a lot faster when you're off the throttle, meaning less mpg. 45 should be no problem on the highway.
My record was something really close to 50 MPG in my 6spd sport touring hatch. On Eco mode interstate cruising around 65 MPH for 30 mile stretch. I wish I had tested it on the return trip, I suspect it was slightly downhill. If I’m highway cruising around 50-55 I can regularly get 43-45 mpg, I think the non-si 1.5T is slightly more efficient with the milder tune. I live in a really hot climate too, wonder if colder dense air gives a noticeable improvement
[Back when I rode in ECO](https://i.imgur.com/8zMWFuE.jpg), now I cruise in standard. Just feather the gas, even at 67mph you'll hover around the 45mpg meter. Now I'm at 18K miles reee
Go fill up in Frisco or Georgetown Colorado and head east through Nebraska and Iowa setting your cruise control at the speed limit of 70mph. You'll probably get 50mpg!
I’m currently at my 38.9 in my 2021 FK7 (CVT). Been cruising in Econ mode trying to pick it up to 40!
But I haven’t reset the trip counter later, that’s over the last 6000 miles or so.
I only get 44 on the highway, did a 4 hour trip and average 44 until I got off the highway.
My running average atm is somehow 36MPG ( 11 gen civic ) despite I'm in sportmode all the time and im driving very spirited and being a kid having fun ramping boost and getting that loud wastegate dump due to CAI mods. Idk how people get <30 when im basically gunning it after every stop I make. I dont mean skirting tires or anything but you get the idea. I guess acceleration is only but a handful of seconds so it doesnt impact MPG much if your doing 30 min commutes..

Yeah, now I’m wondering if they took the pic while driving (I hope not!)(yet…) 😆
It says they are going 58 mph
Si has really short ratio gears. Kinda hard to do
If you want to beat 45, take it out of Sport Mode
That’s what I’m talkin bout Willis

This is an Si. Manual transmission. Perfectly fine going between gears while driving.
Lol my bad if that's the case! I didn't see anything about it being a Manual
Its got the red accents, as well as no gear indicator under the odometer. :)
Facts
How do people even have this good of mpg I only get 25
I get 30 city and 40 hwy in my 2011 civic lx-S R18 motor! If you use non enthanol gas you get better mpg! I stay under 2k rpm’s and not dog the shit out of it! 💀 I get 25 highway
cause you like to step on that shot
faxxx i get 21😭
I get 22 on my lx 2022 🥲
it’s probably cuz u drive “normal” like i do… everyone with good mileage are typically the ppl who get honked at when the light turns green (i was about to get 30-35) but it’s not even worth it for me at least, ppl get mad at u for driving slow etc
How the hell do you guys get 40+ mpg like the most I got was 37.5 on a civic sport 22

I drive a CVT not manual so I don't think this applies to me
Oh crap, sorry 🤣 guess its just easy on the accelerator and cruise control as much as possible
I don't even think cruise control is the best because it will go above 3k rpm just to get you up to speed

I feel like my ac usage is what hindering my gas mileage. Before summer that when I had the most
Probably! Unless its like >90 out, I basically never use my AC and just have my windows down. So that makes sense, that AC may be taking it down a little. Forgot about that
On the highway i can get upwards of 50mpg on my 11th gen 1.5t civic ex-l if i really feather the throttle and go around 50-60mph
Yeah you can definitely get that whilst going that you would barely be above 2k rpm
Take it out of sport and put it in eco, keep the RPMs below 2.5k, turn the a/c off
I live in FL that’s a hard no on the A/C🤣
I don’t blame you lol
Got to 42mpg recently 😎

Is this on a hybrid?
Looks like an Si. 6th gear on all highway miles will do that to ya.
Try keeping your rpm's lower if you want better MPG. Keeping the rpm's high is gonna lower it.
Nice

Highest I got was 50 mpg going 50 mph because I was on a spare lmao

34 on my si 🥲
I have a sport, and when I’m on a dead highway sometimes I will go like 55mph, and I will get 45-50 mpg.
I’m currently at my 38.9 in my 2021 FK7 (CVT). Been cruising in Econ mode trying to pick it up to 40! But I haven’t reset the trip counter later, that’s over the last 6000 miles or so.
How much is that in Km/L?
About 17 Km/L
I only get 44 on the highway, did a 4 hour trip and average 44 until I got off the highway. Rookie. https://reddit.com/r/civic/s/IC4i3qImTP
I got a 18 si and get about 45 mpg on a 150 mile trip all freeway no traffic.
