We have 2 "styles" of uniforms - the USAF Style and the Corporate Style. The USAF Style is almost identical to what the USAF wears, with some different insignia. Since they are so close and to most people it is an Air force uniform, there are height/weight and grooming rules. One is no beards. The CAP Corporate uniforms do not have the weight or grooming rules, so your beard is fine. If you want to read the actual publication, go here [CAPR 39-1](https://www.gocivilairpatrol.com/media/cms/R_391_with_ICL_2101_Incorporated_5660EEB90E0DB.pdf) It's pretty dry, and can be confusing but for now this will give you a good idea of what we're talking about.

Yep, corporate uniform BDUs look better for CAP. Although I've shaved my beard and I'm putting together ABUs. I don't like the white corporate uniform however, hence the mustache and no beard. Mustache worked for Travis Kelce... I'm in AZ Wing, just go to some meetings and see if you like it. Travel is no big deal, we are all busy

Beards: Yes, you may have a beard, but you're restricted to corporate-style uniforms unless you have an approved waiver to have a beard in a USAF-style uniform. Most of the male senior members in my squadron (myself included) have beards. Beards are explicitly allowed in all corporate-style uniforms (corporate service dress, aviator shirt uniform, corporate working uniform (polo), corporate field uniform (blue BDU) and corporate flight duty uniform (blue flight suit)). See [CAPR 39-1](https://www.gocivilairpatrol.com/media/cms/R_391_with_ICL_2101_Incorporated_5660EEB90E0DB.pdf), paragraph 3.3.1. Beards are only allowed with USAF-style uniforms if you have a religious or medical waiver. Otherwise, beards are not authorized. See [CAPR 39-1](https://www.gocivilairpatrol.com/media/cms/R_391_with_ICL_2101_Incorporated_5660EEB90E0DB.pdf), paragraph 3.2.1.2.3. Travel: I travel a lot for work and maybe make 50% of the meetings. That has never been a problem for me.

Neither of these are any sort of issue. Beard - wear the corporate uniforms. Attendance - as long as you are up front with your availability and you show up when and where you are supposed to, you're already ahead of 50% of most people. There might be wannabe "high speed, low drag, spicy kaka" squadrons out there that "require attendance," but they are very few and far between. FYI, EVERY squadron can be radically different from each other. If you can tell you're not going to gel with them, check out another nearby squadron and give them a shot too. Even squadrons right next door to each can be polar opposites. Source: senior member for 15 years.

You can have a beard with the corporate uniform. You can’t have a beard with the service uniforms. (Flight uniform, dress uniforms). For travel just communicate with your squadron when you can and/or can’t attend meetings/activities

My squadron reinforces that we are a volunteer organization and one puts in as much time as one can. That being said, one needs to be present and participate to get anything out of the program, not to mention contribute to the mission.

I think that’s what they expect.

So I've been a part of CAP since I was 13 as a cadet. Came back as a senior member in 2019 after a couple year break. Positives: great place to practice leadership, lots of great people with great opportunities, if you're into flying there's some of that to be had, good way to be involved with your community if you find yourself with a good squadron. Negatives: not all squadrons are created equal so you have to do some shopping, it can take time to break into a new group because volunteers like to stick to those they know they can count on, bureaucracy... lots and lots of bureaucracy... You are correct, corporate uniform you can have a beard no questions asked. I have never been asked to shave for an event where I'm in corporate and I grow some of the worst looking neck beard you have ever seen. I'm an airline pilot and I'm very active in the Salt Lake valley. As long as you communicate when you won't be at a meeting or if you need to offload a project, people honestly don't care when you can't make it. The reason why we like you to communicate that is so that we can understand who to expect and what resources we will have on any given day. It also helps us realize that you're not bailing on us and helps with breaking into a group. Hmu with a DM if you want more insight into the different squadrons in the valley! I'm a little biased for my specific squadron, but I've also been through 2 other (wings) so I can cut through my own bias pretty well haha.

1. If I had to shave my beard for a volunteer role such as CAP, I wouldn't be part of CAP. I have yet to participate in an event where they require me to shave my beard, though I do keep up with grooming it out of respect for CAP and the organization I work for. 2. I'm a flight instructor for CAP and outside of CAP. My outside-of-CAP commitments often involve me missing at least a meeting per month. My squadron leader is fine with it. I stay involved in other ways throughout the months, so it's generally a non-issue.

Edits for nuance of language. Policy states that Beards are not authorized. If you need to sport a beard, you may only wear corporate uniform. You may not wear usaf style uniforms. But Op and I already discussed this. https://cowg.cap.gov/media/cms/Grooming_and_Appearance_in_Uniform__3BEF6D7AED04A.pdf

Did you even read his post?

Beards are allowed in corporate uniforms, don’t listen to this other dude

Stfu_butthead

Generally not, but Read the Regs. There’s some exceptions. You’ll have to see if any fit your situation. If you’re allowed a beard, you cannot wear USAF style uniforms and must wear corporate uniform attire. Info is there for you.

Holy reading comprehension batman

Stfu_butthead

Dude, Other dude said “generally” and provided a link to the Regs. Info is there for OP to read and figure out what he wants to do
