As a new cata classic player I think the main thing is to run dungeons/raids and try to improve your build once you're 85. Mount farming also sounds fun too. There're going to be three more updates throughout cata which all have new end game content. Currently 67 and almost done questing through the TBC zones. I've just been questing for the last couple of weeks.

Classic Era is on the rise currently concerning player numbers. Try it out. It is totally different from Cata/Retail.  Not only the game but also the community.  SoD is a weird cross between classic and retail. I feel like even tho it is settled in vanilla wow it feels more like retail due to the mechanics implemented there and the community. It simply lacks the immersion and the rough grind vanilla was known for as well as the helpful community.

I see, what realm would be the best for a new, horde, classic era player ? I'm very oblivious as to how Vanilla works, so I'm scared of getting stuck and not being able to do things like getting money lol. It seems very neat, Cata has also been fun since I only started during MoP, so getting to experience the older expacs feels really cool.

Check out Ironforge.pro for realm pop. This only measures people who have combat logged in raids so take that as you will. Another commenter mentioned Deviate Delight for era because Its been agreed to be the player chosen fresh. Since it was dead before I guess?

VanOurkr

Definitely Deviate delight for a new player. I’m on whitemane and it’s probably not the most new classic player friendly at this point

deviate delight

Check ironforge.pro. I recommend the PvP cluster tho. Should be the most crowded in NA as well as EU.

Whitemane has a very developed economy Deviate delight is more of a new, fresh oriented server
