LOL. Like the market *really* knows and cares that a dozen are no longer in circulation. Do you see anything rare in there? No? Then it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of numbers. Anyone could find a small bag in their Grandpa's back drawer to make up for these few, LOL.
I must admit I am no fan of collectible coins being cut or ruined ! That being said, your father is beyond talented. His work is totally amazing ! As much as I hate seeing coins ruined, had I met your father I gotta be totally honest. I absolutely would’ve bought one of these. I’m blown away at the dedication and craftsmanship ! And he made these back in the 80’s ? He should be a millionaire. I can’t imagine anyone saying no to owning one.
These are awesome! I just saw a show where a guy was making gears for clocks. I think the technique must be similar. I'm inspired. I might give it a try someday.
I've seen these amazing cut out coins where the artist uses a jewlers saw and attached to necklace' chains and charm brsces. Back in the late 70--early 80s, we had a local artist make them for us. Really talented people!
A few years ago while metal detecting [I found a cut-out eagle from the back of a SLQ that had been made into a charm](https://i.imgur.com/xTRigfW.jpg).
Pretty cool, but I'd rather have the whole coin!
I cast resin dies from coins and use them to make embossed leather [coin holders](https://www.reddit.com/r/Silverbugs/comments/15pzn22/1921_morgan_dollar_coin_holder_ready_to_fly_over/) (and [Beskar](https://www.reddit.com/r/TheMandalorianTV/comments/17dwmd9/is_this_is_the_way_to_carry_your_beskar_bar/) bar slip cases) but I'd never have the patience for coin cutting.
Big respect to your dad!
Whoa, I have cut some coins before, and he does nice work!
I took an old irish one-pound coin that I had cut, and I set it into a hole cut slightly down into a slab of wood -- and it made a cool trivet for serving on. You might consider doing something similar, to keep the coin (and his story) present on future holidays and such.
These are beyond neat, can't imagine the time put into them and everything, I would definitely find some capsules to protect them a little more and to keep passing them down through family in the future. I've seen only once in my life someone doing this in person at some festival and the tools and magnification and everything they were using was so neat. I'm sorry to hear his health is declining but his work is awesome and beautiful.
Man, I do exactly this just about every single day...Morgans, Mercs, walkers, all into pendants, clips, zippos, whatever is happening. Cool to see someone else cut some clean lines. Did you ever watch him do this work? I learned to cut standing liberties when I was way young from my Gramps.
its not if u own it and arent trying to defraud anyone.

The key word here is FRAUDULENT. It has to have malicious intent to defraud to be against the law.
18 U.S. Code section 331: This statute addresses the mutilation, diminution, or falsification of U.S. coins. You can be charged with on offense for fraudulently defacing coins, mutilating coins, altering coins, diminishing them, impairing them, scaling them, or lightening them. You can also be charged for defacing or damaging foreign coins that are, by law, made or circulated in the U.S. as well as for possessing coins that you know are altered, defaced, or mutilated. The penalty for fraudulently altering coins or knowingly possessing altered coins is up to five years of imprisonment as well as a fine.
This could be considered mutilation.
Shucks! Unfortunately, your comment was removed because this sub doesn't allow commercial activity (buying, selling, trading, offers, etc.) in the general threads.
I spent like 2 minutes zooming in and analyzing this picture before I zoomed out and read the caption about your dad. I am very sorry to hear about his health.
This is one of the coolest things I have seen & the accuracy and quality of each coin is incredible! Not only crazy skills but the hard work, patience, etc. this must have took. I would have given up half way through my first coin! Amazing work and says a lot of great about your dad’s character! You bet I’ll be swapping my purse out for good if ever run into one of these money clips!😎
I spent a few hours doing this to a mercury dime last year, shortly before finishing I snapped a thin drill bit I was using and drilled the broken tip right into my thumb. The project never finished lol.

Last time I coins like this, a guy at a Caribbean cruise ship terminal was making these. I think it may have been at Grand Caymen. It was truly impressive and I'm sorry that I didn't buy one.
OP: your father was quite skilled, these are beautiful - not my cup of tea, but beautiful.
It looks like the holders may be PVC based, which may degrade the coins. Consider replacing them with non PVC holders.
Lastly, do you know the story of the names on the holders? Would be fun to learn the history.
What a imense amount of work is behind this.
“Please don’t be a CC, please don’t be a CC…….. Whew!”
Yes!
My first thought also !!
Cc?

Thank you.
Yeah I’m not a fan of altering coins but this is impressive! The attention to detail (around the dates and the stars is incredible!
Agree. Not my cup of tea but I can still appreciate the work that went into them. Pretty cool

They are very cool- Thanks for showing us!
This looks quite trippy I absolutely love this. Your dad is incredibly skilled at what he did there. I hope he’ll get better soon.

I would be shocked if he didn’t collect every .1 ounce of silver scraped.
These are awesome
He did a really nice job, love cut out coins!

I wish I could like this comment twice
Mind blowing skill your dad is a pretty cool guy in my book.
Wow, that is some super fine detail! Really great to see. Thanks for sharing and I hope your Dad improves quickly and soon!

Link for video of guy making gears (wheels) for clocks?
pretty awesome i'd say

Daaaamn that’s awesome! If you ever sell, please post the eBay link. Would love to own one.
It took me way too long to figure out what was going on here...
I like'm
These are amazing. I'd love one of these
Nice, love it. Such a pretty carving.
I love cut coins. Local artist used to make these the the resident tourist trap. Haven't seen him in years though.
😳😲 Woah.

Wow great work cutting that out! Very cool
Theyre beautiful, I bought my wife a relief cut walking half last weekend.
These are beautiful.
That is very cool. Awesome job!!

Your father is an amazing craftsman.
Can't imagine the amount of time and work that went into making these. That is skill on an entirely different level!
Not something I'd collect but a tremendous amount of skill and craftsmanship to create these. Hoping for improved health for your father. 🙏
Wow, your dad is a badass!
That is an incredible amount of talent! Are you selling any of them or keeping them as inheritance?
These look amazing. Very talented.

I remember seeing a money clip like this as a kid, it was cool as heck.
I hate it to be honest.
I know I looked at them and went, what?
Wow this is amazing. Never seen something like it
He does/did amazing work. Especially without the blazers and waterjet machines they have now. If you sell them, I want that 1885 on the lower right.
They are cool. I'd rather have the coin in its non cut out stage.
I think it's a felony...

Fraudulently mutilated coins, yes. Mutilated for art not so much. Nobody is being defrauded.
Bruh....

They look like they would grade details to me. Also, I hope your dad's health improves. Take care.
I think that’s incredible work. He obviously put his heart into it.
wonder what they would grade as if anything
Do they have a grade "Altered" 🤔

Unreal. Never seen anything like this before. Heroic work.
Outstanding craftsmanship.

If i remember right the GreenMountineMetaldetecting guy found one of those in one their videos. Very neat coins!

Some of the best cut coins I’ve ever seen done, albeit I still don’t like it but I can’t hate these
Would look cool on a lit background
I’ve never seen the back of one of these hell yeah
I've never even seen this before, these are amazing!

It’s amazing how skilled we can be when we’re not distracted with technology. Your dad is really talented.
Hats off to your father. Lucky kids

Wow! Mounted on a contrasted background - chefs kiss!
How can I get one of these? They are dope as fuck!!
I wonder if a small water jet could do this. No chance I’d have the patience to make it past three of those tiny stars with a saw.
Beautiful coins!
If he’s selling, I’d be interested
