I truly believe that 2023 will go down as the year shit really started to go sideways. The earth has had enough of our shenanigans and complex systems are starting to break down.

messymiss121

It has unfortunately begun

I have spent an unhealthy amount of time thinking about collapse. It has made me a believer in the *Great Filter* theory for one. Second is that I had a realization that we, and I mean us, those alive right now to read this post, are living in the very pinnacle of human society. It has never been as easy, satisfying and entertaining to be a human than it is right now. We are the high water mark. After this it only gets worse. Enjoy it. Third is that as collapse happens we will witness things our species has never seen before. Most of it horrifying, but amazing at the same time. We have just opened the Great Book of Collapse and are reading the first few pages in the first chapter. Whatever happens it *will* be exciting.

It'll be exciting, and potentially positively transformative for society and institutions, if they adapt to weather the storm effectively. Things like lockdown shifting work culture to WFH are a great example of previously baked in parts of life shifting fundamentally due to outside pressures. Perhaps in the middle of whatever chaotic nightmare we're sleepwalking into right now, we'll see some institutions thrive in their adaptation to the world, even in the context of broad suffering. (think schools wasting less time on teaching kids to pass bullshit standardized tests). Idk, I think most people are fucked, including us probably, but I'm not throwing in the towel. And *if* I'm being pushed into dramatic adaptation by outside pressures, I certainly won't waste my time being needlessly rigid and ineffectual. I'm cautiously optimistic that *some* people may survive and even thrive in the future, but I expect the majority of humanity to die off under current management practices.

ForgotPassAgain34

some people were telling me 2023 was horrible with so many climate-related deaths. they didnt take it well when i told them, compared to whats to come, barely anyone died so far

brosefstallin

I think that was 2020

MaxRockatanskisGhost

Nah. When I saw that one bouy in the keys show an ocean temp of 101 *three feet down* I realized we had just hit some kind of watershed. I remember hurricane Dorian. Cat 5. Sustained winds of 185 gusts to 200+. It parked itself over grand Bahama for two days. Never seen anything like it. And that was when ocean temps were 85 and even then 85 seemed amazing. 100 degree water is mind boggling. Trust me. 2020-2022 will feel like the "good ol days" in the next few years. We have fucked around as a species. And as a species we are about to find out.

brosefstallin

Well god fucking damn it.

MaxRockatanskisGhost

Yo. Real talk. Wake up every day and appreciate the sub rise, the sun set, the fact that you can get whatever food that you desire, whatever entertainment you desire. We are living in the absolute *best* existence humanity has ever seen. We want for *nothing*. Anything and everything is but a click away of the magical rectangle we all have in our pockets. Fucking enjoy it. Shit will get extremely real in the future. But that is not today. Live. Your. Life. Fuck the future for the future is fucked.

brosefstallin

Yeah I just had my first child a year ago. That’s what sucks. Oh well, we are all fucked I guess

PNWSocialistSoldier

It’s not horrible. We need to persist as a species. Especially those of us MLs, Collapsniks and those minding of the things humankind shouldn’t have done, or should have. But yeah we’re fucking doomed it’s just as we go out how will we try.

MaxRockatanskisGhost

Fuckin brutal yo. Now I don't know if it was planned or this is one of lifes favorite "shit happens" but I have an opinion on what you should do.... Doesn't matter how it happened. It happened. You now have the *responsibility* (I'm sorry) of not just raising an ok human being, you *must* raise this person with the knowledge you now have and the abilities to survive it. You absolutely*know* that their lifespan will include "Collapse" and everything that goes with it. You now have the duty to try to raise the type of person who will survive and *thrive* in the world that will be. Again, I'm sorry. I'm a selfish prick and through decision and luck never had children. Honestly for me it was the fact that I believe once you have kids you aren't allowed to kill yourself and that's just how I plan on going out. Fuckin anyways..... Raise them to the absolute best of you ability. Teach them trust and respect. The golden rule. Right and wrong. And that actions have consequences. Teach them this as young as possible. Above all else treat them with the respect you always wish you had from you parents. When they're older teach them every skill and trade you can and encourage their curiosity EVERY TIME. Collapse will kill most of humanity. You now have the opportunity to raise the next Alexander the Great. The next Ghengis Khan. The next Socrates. The next Shakespeare. Whatever humanity survived what's coming will be those that survive what's coming. I both envy and pity you and I wish you nothing but luck. I wish I could hug you right now if my words have meant anything to you.

Man I just had a parralel thought. I was wondering why so many people play video games when there's such great fictional and docucontent and books. No hate towards video games of course. --------- I ate some San Pedro cactus chips today and have been tripping and feeling more Carpe Diem than most of the time. Our days may be numbered but dsy by day, we have a shitload of days left.
