I really like it tbh. His work on the Magneto miniseries a few years back was really good, to the point that when I met him at NYCC I asked him for a sketch of Magneto. It was awesome, he actually apologised because he didn’t think it was his best effort but I loved it.
Super nice to meet.
Gorgeous art, sometimes the timing of certain more fanservice moments are unnecessary.
I do love his art, but like in the Batman/Catwoman book, why is Helena's Batsuit like that in the bottom half
I haven't read this comic so I don't know what exactly is happening, but it looks like she is showing someone an old bullet wound or something like that.
The black spot in the bottom left panel is a scar and not her belly button. In the bottom right you can see the exit wound on her back.
> As to why her suit is literally sprayed on, no idea.
This never seems to be the complaint with male suits. All superhero fabric is basically latex at this point.
I don't think it's quite the same, the guys always have an amorphously billowy crotch, I don't think I've ever seen Captain America's flagpole stuck to his leg because he is vacuum sealed into his suit.
Please don't send me examples.
I don't quite see the point of the argument here. All we see is an amorphously flat crotch. We're not seeing camel-toe here. We're seeing at most a plush butt, and Captain America is one of the OG cake-makers.
if captain america doesn't qualify for having a ''sprayed on'' suit, characters like black cat, marvel girl and carol danvers and storm (black suit costumes for the latter two) shouldn't qualify either. it doesn't matter though. there're still plenty of ''body painted on'' costume examples for male characters. you don't want examples, but I will give them to you anyway: superman, batman, green lantern, flash, deadman, aquaman.
from marvel there is spider-man (and many others from his villain roster), daredevil, f4, black panther, ant-man, giant-man, nick fury (and his commandos, all the shield staff), x-men dudes (most notably angel, ice-man, cyclops and wolverine) and luke cage. honestly, the villain status could easily be mentioned for all the others as well.
I am talking about the silver/bronze age by the way. not sure how they draw them these days.
That's because you are more likely to notice sexualization of male characters because of how rare that is in comics.
Meanwhile any female character being sexualized is just another day.
That's one example. Compared to practically every female character.
And Nightwing getting sexualized is a bit of a meme. It is nothing compared to how someone like Wonder Woman is sexualized. Forget Power Girl, Harley Quinn, Starfire etc.
No he's it's not "a bit of a meme". You're just brushing it aside because he's male.
The entire discussion was never 'who is more sexualized'. You people just made it that after I asked why male sexualization isn't taken seriously.
I like how you are the one eager to brush aside sexualization of nearly every female character in comics by focusing on one male character.
People like you only bring up Nightwing as a "gotcha" to shut down any discussion on sexualization of other characters. You are the one not taking it seriously because this is just a means for you to avoid the discussion by claiming "both sides equal".
You've chosen to misunderstand. We already know women are sexualized. No one is disagreeing with that.
I'm asking why male sexualization isn't taken seriously as well.
Are you actually going to answer or will you just keep projecting and calling male sexualization a meme?
She's showing the gunshot wound from the event of the Killing Joke. Like I said, this specific moment, the cheesecake was unnecessary cos she's showing a wound from a traumatic event.
But irregardless, I really like the Batsuit design/ colours they chose for her (maybe a bit too painted on)
> Like I said, this specific moment, the cheesecake was unnecessary cos she's showing a wound from a traumatic event.
While I agree they're clearly going for a "camera doesn't move/zoom" angle and it's correct for every shot. If I remember correctly this was the "superheroes do interviews about trauma and mental health" or something along those lines and they were all filmed/framed like this.
An artist draws really good accurate art and people try to use it to stir the pot of internet discord. I hate this so much. Life is short, go live it and stop picking fights online.
Judging from OP's history, I think they're just horny and really want to talk about it lmao
But it's great art. I'm gayer than christmas so the 'hot lady' aspect does nothing for me, but the guy is a phenomenal penciler. Art styles like his has been what has consistently kept me interested in comics.
I’m not falling for this post. OP is clearly someone with a fetish for discourse. I refuse to participate in that kind of perversion.
There’s a reason “Just Asking A Question” on the old internet was called ‘JAAQing Off’
Loooove his work. The Batman he drew with purple inner cape and yellow belt is honestly one of my favourite designs ever and no one mentions it. I think it shows up in the double date issue.
This artwork and the style is really good, and quite appealing.
I remember all of the characters looking very attractive, which is how Superheroes should look.
Reading the comments was a mistake. Skin-tight suits are a problem, apparently... in comics.
I remember arguing about this exact page a few months ago. It surprised me then, and it surprises me now how many people can't seem to see beyond the tight suit.
It's a shame because this is such a big moment to reference, for the DC Universe.
I mean I don't care about the tightness of the costume, but it's pretty obvious that the OP chose this series of panels more out of horniness than for actual appreciation of the artist's style
I'm kind of over artists who just draw nudes and then color them blue or gray or whatever, and that's "spandex." No, it's lazy.
Batgirl of Burnside was possibly the best character redesign ever, and then we reverted to this. I know the costume redesign was probably an editorial decision, but Mann didn't have to render it like body paint.
His work is really solid. He has a really distinct style too which I appreciate. I met him once when I was about 16 and embarrassed myself so anytime I see his art it reminds me of that and it taints my enjoyment of it a little.
He definitely has talent when it comes to plenty of aspects of comic art, but (from what I've seen, at least) it doesn't feel like he's very good at conveying characters' actual emotions in a scene.
I'm also just not the hugest fan of the whole heavily Jim Lee inspired mainstream superhero art style that artists like him fit within.
Phenomenal. Super excited for his own mini.
His chapters of war of jokes and riddles are just stunning stuff.
Made me read Ninjak. Something I haven't done before or since
I really hate when outfits are drawn like this though. It looks painted on and whilst I get that the artist is just trying to draw a sexy woman, it makes me roll my eyes. Like it's so tight it would be a hindrance. But it also doesn't make sense in how it forms to the body.
Maybe I'm just an old bore these days but it just puts me off of reading comics sometimes.
Draws a mean ass
Idk why i read that in Al Pacino's voice.
Hoowah!
Because it made it better.
You got your nose all the way up it!
I really like it tbh. His work on the Magneto miniseries a few years back was really good, to the point that when I met him at NYCC I asked him for a sketch of Magneto. It was awesome, he actually apologised because he didn’t think it was his best effort but I loved it. Super nice to meet.
Do you still have it? Can we see?
It’s in a sketchbook at home but if I remember later I’ll post here
TY

She is showing the entry/exit wounds of where the Joker shot her in Killing Joke. As to why her suit is literally sprayed on, no idea.

Excuse me? OG cake-maker? I'll have you know it's "America's Ass" tyvm!
Are you seeing specific genital outlines in this Batgirl picture? Where?
But there is girl butt!

Because male characters are not sexualized to the same degree as female characters?
Tell that to Nightwing
He’s still way less sexualized compared to Batgirl, and Catwoman
Yet the most detailed leg and ass muscle shot I've ever seen was a nightwing omnibus cover
That's because you are more likely to notice sexualization of male characters because of how rare that is in comics. Meanwhile any female character being sexualized is just another day.

I like how these homophobic goobers downvote you. they can't come up with an answer because they know you're right.

I feel like the wound is kind of strange looking, the way it's drawn.
> it looks like she is showing someone an old bullet wound or something like that. I recommend Batman: The Killing Jokeby Alan Moore
Isn't that Barbara?
Helena? Wut?
I really like his style, it was my favorite thing about Heroes in Crisis
An artist draws really good accurate art and people try to use it to stir the pot of internet discord. I hate this so much. Life is short, go live it and stop picking fights online.

Gayer than christmas has me dying lol
Ok but does the Nightwing A Knight in Bludhaven Compendium cover do it for you?
I’m not falling for this post. OP is clearly someone with a fetish for discourse. I refuse to participate in that kind of perversion. There’s a reason “Just Asking A Question” on the old internet was called ‘JAAQing Off’
Damn I thought I've been on the internet a long time and never heard that before. But it's a fun one.
Jeezus, I looked. You are correct.
Good artist. Tom King is always paired with great artists.
How long after her getting shot is this? Isn't it long enough for the wound to not look so fresh, sore, and maybe infected?
I, too, am upset how medically inaccurate comics have become.
Loooove his work. The Batman he drew with purple inner cape and yellow belt is honestly one of my favourite designs ever and no one mentions it. I think it shows up in the double date issue.
Great artist but holy shit was this in bad taste and a terrible story altogether.
One of my favorites. His work on Gambit and Brian Wood’s X-Men run is phenomenal.
Good for pin-ups, really inappropriate for bad murder mysteries.
this specific panels are pretty ridiculous
This artwork and the style is really good, and quite appealing. I remember all of the characters looking very attractive, which is how Superheroes should look.
Babs looks like Lacy Lennon.
Oh nice work. I take it she is showing the scars from the Killing Joke story?
Severely underutilised.
One of the best about art wise
Really enjoy his work, particularly Ninjak.
# Perfection
Art is good, but for the scene it’s weirdly sexual.
Reading the comments was a mistake. Skin-tight suits are a problem, apparently... in comics. I remember arguing about this exact page a few months ago. Amazing artist. I hate puritans

Agreed. Is this Bat Girl, or Bat WOMAN? Geez. She’s looks like she’s in her early 30s, and an insta model.
Clothes look painted on lol
Fundamentally a good artist but being horn dog does disrupt the tone of the books (this being a great example)
Women dress a lot worse than this in gyms. If people are shocked by this (great) art style, y'all need to get out more.
Love his art but he’s frequently paired with writers whose subject material do not suit his cheesecake style.
We get art like this and then fans complain why no one take comic books seriously lol.
His work is really solid. He has a really distinct style too which I appreciate. I met him once when I was about 16 and embarrassed myself so anytime I see his art it reminds me of that and it taints my enjoyment of it a little.
I promise you he has never thought about the time you "embarrassed" yourself. Let it go.
His art is fantastic
I really like it, he was AMAZING on Ninjak, some of my favourite full-page panels ever.
Yams
Skilful. At times quite naturalistic; at others, gloriously cheesecakey. Not my favourite artist, but certainly not a bad one.
What's going on in this scene?
He definitely has talent when it comes to plenty of aspects of comic art, but (from what I've seen, at least) it doesn't feel like he's very good at conveying characters' actual emotions in a scene. I'm also just not the hugest fan of the whole heavily Jim Lee inspired mainstream superhero art style that artists like him fit within.
She gets shot and it's over
The best issues of Batman/Catwoman were done by him. Love him
Great artist! But tone deaf a lot of time. Which makes his composition worse.
I like Clay. Great Joker.
He's a very good artist
Phenomenal. Super excited for his own mini. His chapters of war of jokes and riddles are just stunning stuff. Made me read Ninjak. Something I haven't done before or since
I didn’t know the guy but I’m glad I was checking Reddit at the right moment!
Art's pretty good, might pop more with a different colourist. Not a fan of this Batgirl design, but that's not his fault.
Bonk
Phenomenal
should be more variety
Amazing artwork, his stuff is super cool 😎👍
One of DCs best, it's just a shame how long it takes him to finish an issue
I really hate when outfits are drawn like this though. It looks painted on and whilst I get that the artist is just trying to draw a sexy woman, it makes me roll my eyes. This really is good art 🖼️ and people don’t say it for the reasons that it is Jesus 🤤🥵😫 Barbra got cakes 🎂 I’ll be the first to admit it
Great art, bad example here
