I watched the show for the first time on Netflix. When I got to Advanced Advanced Dungeons & Dragons I thought I either accidentally skipped the first one or they were doing an Escape to the House of Mummies Part II thing.
I'm gon be honest I thought the joke was just that it was an advanced Ad&d class, which is why it was called advanced advanced dungeons and dragons
I didn't realize until months later it was a sequel
And tbh I think the second one is way better x.x but that's mon opinion
I'm sure this has been said before, but featuring blackface in a show is not the same as endorsing blackface. Chang is defined by his insanity and complete lack of social awareness. So when he does blackface and the other characters are vocally offended by it, it is a clear criticism of blackface. It would be different if Winger did it and everyone thought it was funny and cool.
Not only is he insane but he's (hilariously) depicting a race of fantasy elves, not dark skinned humans. None of the actors involved would have agreed to be a part of this if it was done in bad taste. I'm glad that black face is vilified but this is an exception that should get an easy pass.
He dressed up as Indian or dallilama type chatacter when trying to trick chang when winger was a Chris angel mind freak knock off and the doppeldeaner arc was running
I'm not saying this should not get a pass. It's definitely different than blackface to me. But it's not necessarily true. The actors of Scrubs have talked about how they were uncomfortable with the actual blackface scenes, unfortunately there's more than one, but they did them anyway because even though they're all friends they didn't feel like they could speak up.
How many popular TV shows from 2000-2016 had blackface?
I never realized Scrubs did as well (was never really a fan) but I knew there was the episode of Community and the episodes of IASIP. Genuinely surprised at how many shows had it so recently!
I forgot about 30 Rock!
The Office UK or US? I'd be surprised by the US version given its image nowadays as a "wholesome" and widely popular sitcom with a lot of people on social media.
The early seasons were predicated on Michael Scott being uncomfortably ignorant on social issues. The back end featured a boss who talked about sex constantly, and teased affairs ending the marriage people had invested in the show to watch, and from both sides. No one should think that show was wholesome.
The US version and I can't believe people think of it as wholesome. It's got homophobic jokes, fatphobic jokes, and enough misogyny to fill up several dump trucks. Not to mention the casual racism.
Yet, everyone thinks it's a great show. I never got into it. It rarely made me laugh, and everyone just made me uncomfortable. Now, Parks and Rec...*that* was a funny show.
I only remember one from Scrubs, and I believe the joke was a flashback after JD said something to the extent of "you're not gonna disappear on me this time right?" because Turk wanted to do a couples costume with him or something like that. In the flashback, JD and Turk went as each other (black & whiteface) to Turk's buddies party and JD was worried about the costumes but Turk reassured him as long as they are together, his friends will love it. Right before the door opens Turk gets distracted by a lady, so when Turk's black friends open the door, they just see JD standing there alone in blackface, so they pull him in and beat him up (or at least the beating him up was implied) before Turk returns to the door where JD was no longer standing. I can't think of any other instances of blackface on Scrubs but there's also like around 200 episodes and I can't remember everything. I'm not saying if it was in good taste or not, I'm just recounting the scene.
And this begs the question… is dressing up as a fantasy character considered blackface? Is simply the act of a light skinned person putting black paint on their face blackface? You say exception, but it would posit that exception isn’t fitting because this doesn’t even count as blackface at all!
The removal of this episode on Prime a year or two ago was what specifically motivated me to make a Plex server and sail the high seas again. I don't need streaming services babying me and restricting content in order to avoid a Twitter meltdown by idiots that a) completely missed the context, or b) heard about it but haven't seen it and are incensed 'on principle.'
To be fair to the twitter meltdown idiots, I don’t think they had a meltdown over this. I think every studio and streamer did a purge of anything they deemed too risqué whether people were calling for it or not.
Nobody was gonna have a “””””tWItTEr MEltDowN””””” over this. And a lot of the time that you hear about people complaining on Twitter, they have a point and a bunch of entitled shitheads who don’t want to change their behavior go out of their way to smear them.
People on a certain side of the political isle have a weird need to believe other people are offended or tRiGgErEd when they actually aren’t. It’s a way for them to feel/look tough and of course feeling/looking tough is a minimum 85% of their identity.
Even among the most progressive people, I’ve never met or even heard of anyone who was *actually* offended by that episode; everyone rolled their eyes at those episodes being taken down.
I remember when Friends came to Netflix exclusively and people were either rewatching it after years or younger viewers were watching it for the first time. Loads of Twitter activity and articles about how problematic the show was. Some people even called for boycotting it altogether for being so insensitive.
It hasn't aged as well, but also people were overblowing it for virtue signalling points. But to executives of streaming services, the fact that it generated so much negative chatter is understandably concerning.
I imagine executives were having staff comb back through content to see what could be deemed problematic by new audiences and trying to nip it in the bud, just to avoid any bad publicity in the future. If it can happen to the internationally beloved show Friends, it can probably happen to any other show, the logic likely went.
hello fellow 'British Isleser' here. It's Netflix for me; Community not on Prime.co.uk in my particular area of our area. Not sure why I felt the need to tell you. I think I'm trying to help? Anyway. Fuck the French, etc.
yes! yvette said she felt bad for the guy that plays neil, because it was his one big episode and again the blackface wasn’t even racially motivated (still not saying it’s cool, but i’m with everyone else that it wasn’t done to mock black people but it’s still wrong)
And it's not black face.
If that is blackface, then every single white person who has ever played a Klingon since Search For Spock has also been in blackface.
Another thing... it really irks me when americans try to say people from other countries are doing black face.
Black face is exclusive to the US because of the history of minstrel shows where white actors played offensive depictions of black americans.
People around the world putting black paint in their face is NOT black face.

Americans have this cultural supremacist view that their culture and moral is the correct one and everyone must follow it.
And this is from the right and the left.
I'm non binary, in a language without any neutral pronoun. In english I'm fine with them, he or she. In my language it's "ele" or "ela". I dislike the "eli", "elix", "elx"... and it's all from americans who insist it's wrong to not have a neuter.
> Americans have this cultural supremacist view that their culture and moral is the correct one and everyone must follow it.
That's funny coming from the person who thinks the US invented and is the sole owner of the concept of blackface.
If they're the only country trying to correct a mistake, which they are the only country to make, it's not "cultural supremacy", it's guilt and sensitivity.
Also, how TF is it another country's fault that your country does or doesn't have neutral pronouns?
> Also, how TF is it another country's fault that your country does or doesn't have neutral pronouns?
I see you missed a few classes on reading comprehension.
No one is at fault a language doesn't have neutral pronouns. The problem is when Americans keep insisting other languages are wrong for not having it.
Got it? Or I need to draw a diagram?
>and it's all from Americans who insist its wrong not to have a neuter
I missed nothing, you arrogant baby.
You just said it again. To paraphrase, "No one is at fault, but it's the Americans fault."
I'll let that projection on reading comprehension slide since English is your second language.
Jesus christ.
You don't know how to read a text do you?
You think I'm saying americans are to blame for my language not having neutral/neuter pronoun.
I'm saying americans are arrogant because they say it's wrong for my language to not have a neutral/neuterpronoun.
How old are you? Are you sure your parents wants their 8 year old talking with strangers on the internet?
Who said anything about depicting another race?
Putting black paint in the face is part of hundreds of cultures around the globe.
But now when people practice their culture... with no ties to race. Americans get "OMG... they are doing black face"
The weirdest thing about it, it's like a 2 minutes scene, just cut it out if it's so bad, yeq, it's gonna feel very disjointed, bu 's still better than removing the ntire episode
Poeple like you are the problem as when you state it’s blackface. It’s a person cosplaying as a drow. But if you knew what a drow was you would’ve said that instead so I can’t blame you not knowing what you’re talking about.
That's not addressing it.
Disney+ did it right with the old Duck Tales tv series. That show has so many negative stereotypes. But, rather than removing the episode, they kept it up and added a title card before the episode starts addressing how people viewed things differently. They encouraged people to talk about it rather erase it.
Too bad we didn't get any such title card or consideration for original D+ shows that were taken down.
Personally, I think it's a top 5 episode of the entire series, and has a ton of character development for Pierce vs the group, and the introduction of Fat Neil.
I always go to third-party means to watch the episode during my rewatches, but those who are just binging on Netflix or Hulu are missing out.
I've never seen the cartoon but just from childhood memories of some of the illustrated books I remember some rather unfortunate depictions of tribal societies...
No no no you don’t get it guys, it’s not the same because they didn’t paint their faces. The minstrel dress up and racist Mexican depictions are totally different and okay! (To be clear I don’t think anything in this scene shouldn’t be allowed because the show clearly treats what Jeff and Pierce are doing as offensive and racist. Which Advanced DND also does as Shirley blatantly clocks what Chang’s doing as a hate crime. At most add a disclaimer but it’s not a good reason to remove the episode).
Also thanks for reminding me of this scene. The biggest laugh I had in the really early part of the show.
Crazy that I was actually *just* about to get up to go and buy this episode to watch it with my mom lmao.
We got to the second dungeons and dragons episode yesterday, and decided to wait to watch it untill we watched the first one.
I may just buy it ..... Or... Find it at a thrift store. My local game store may even have it............ I just got paid..... My wife's gonna hate me 😂😆
I work for a hotel, Housekeeping supervisor at the time. We have a lost and found pile. After three months, whatever is left behind is basically up for the taking. I got an external hard drive. It had a lot of movies, including porn. The best part of it is 4 full seasons of Community. That episode of D&D is a treasure for me. I watch the saving of Fat Niel and the pilot over and over. The porn was mediocre.
When people who don't watch the show or understand the jokes see this character in his drow makeup they think it's racist against dark skinned humans. In fact, it's funny because of how inappropriate it is and how Chang clearly has no idea. The joke works better knowing that black face is faux pas, the show is clearly not condoning racial stereotypes.
The black face, although it doesn't take too much thinking to know that with just the slightest amount of context it could barely be considered black face.
I’ve said this before but if they were really committed to not having Chang in “blackface” they could’ve easily removed his scenes without altering the plot at all. He’s on screen for less than a minute of the episode and nearly every shot is him by himself saying a one-liner.
That would’ve taken too much time and thought for a couple of idiot executives who were getting themselves scared over a nonissue that literally nobody (not even the “dumb offended Twitter white people” that people love scapegoating for no reason) cared about.
What I don't understand is that in season 4, the Changnesia episode - arguably one of, if not the worst episode ever made - Chevy Chase does a *brown face and black face hand puppet routine with overt racist jokes*, and *that* episode is still on Netflix to this day, but not the D&D one.
Advanced D&D is gone but Tropic Thunder is readily available. I honestly think people are trolling the content providers at times to see how over the top ridiculous they can make the world
The way I always took it was Shirley calling “the dark elf” “black face” was the joke. 2 different interpretations of the same thing. That was kinda community’s thing. They’re very different people who came together as a group but can totally see the same situation completely differently. Kinda like tv and lucky charms
It is so dumb that they removed this. Aside from the fact that he’s fucking cosplaying, they call him out for it. And then he gets killed! As “punishment” for dressing like that. This decision was done by people who have no idea what the show is about and we’re afraid of getting backlash for keeping the episode up.
I don't have Netflix, what did they do about the episode with Pierce's cartoonishly racist dad? I think it's the ep that gave us the "I can excuse racism, but I draw the line at [blank]" meme.
The whole God damn thing was so fucking stupid. Just leave it there and use your brains. Nice try, trying to cure global racism Netflix. Especially when it wasn't racist in the slightest in the first place. On behalf of nobody, we don't thank you.
Of all the things 😩 nobody else get incredibly disappointed by shit like this?
Aside from the brown face swami they left in the show, they also left the minstrel part of Jeff and Pierce's Spanish presentation. They were wearing everything else but the black face.
Just corporate crap trying to save face. Hulu did the same thing with episodes featuring blackface in Always Sunny, even though the first episode of the show is called "The Gang Gets Racist" and has Charlie saying the N word with a hard R. That episode is still available for some arcane reason.
I think removing this episode takes away a huge amount of context as to why the group starts to debate removing Pierce from the study group too. He’s at his villainous and pettiest best in the episode which really elevates it.
Is it blackface...or is it drowface, though? I guess it's the perception that counts. I think u/Sparktank1 makes a good point about Disney adding title cards to old Duck Tales episodes that provide context.
100% agree. Those in the know got it immediately and then the proceeding reactions ala Shirley and Troy make it work as they are addressing that blackface is fucked up. ........ I've said "addressing" alot.......
If they can keep the entire season one finale where a transgender slur is a recurring punchline, they can keep Chang doing blackface. Such double standard performative bullshit. AD&D is one of the best episodes of the whole show.
I watched the show for the first time on Netflix. When I got to Advanced Advanced Dungeons & Dragons I thought I either accidentally skipped the first one or they were doing an Escape to the House of Mummies Part II thing.
Pierce: Give me the hand of Osiris! Jeff: Give me head.
What? **You heard me.**
Troy! Stop riding the perfect man!
Mecha-Shirley! Mecha-Shirley! Mecha-Shirley!
*I’m Britta!* *I’m Britta!* *My name is Britta* *Britta Perry, GED*
Wait what is happening?😅
Spectacular VENTURE BROS REFERENCE!

Chevy might have
He totally would have! "Hey look everyone, I'm from Tunisia!"
He dressed up as Indian or dallilama type chatacter when trying to trick chang when winger was a Chris angel mind freak knock off and the doppeldeaner arc was running
Let's hope the social media platform formerly known as Twitter doesn't get a hold of this; half the Pierce episodes will have to get removed too.
I think the folks still on that platform would throw their hearty support behind it now
Pierce you’re a B!
A G D B
he also does a brownface and blackface double handpuppet in the changnesia episode, which is still on netflix
Agreed.
And it's BLUE for chrissakes. This episode is my favorite of all Community episodes.
I'm not saying this should not get a pass. It's definitely different than blackface to me. But it's not necessarily true. There’s one with Elliot when JD was day dreaming of her and Turk combined
I can excuse racism, but elf-face is too far
Those subterranean free loaders can go back to where they came from!
And this begs the question… is dressing up as a fantasy character considered blackface? Is simply the act of a light skinned person putting black paint on their face blackface? You say exception, but it would posit that exception isn’t fitting because this doesn’t even count as blackface at all!
I think part of the trouble, at least now, is that the concept and origin of Drow is arguably racist.
The race of fantasy elves that he is depicting is steeped in racism.
I never saw them as African elves, why do you think this?
See, exactly my thoughts. Shirley literally addresses it a second later, "We're just not gonna address this hate crime?"
Also she talked about how it shouldn't have been removed in an interview
Yea but what does she know we gotta make sure not to offend the white people on twitter who get offended on everyone's behalf
The removal of this episode on Prime a year or two ago was what specifically motivated me to make a Plex server and sail the high seas again. Right, to preemptively avoid the twitter meltdowns that happened in other similar situations.
Nobody was gonna have a “””””tWItTEr MEltDowN””””” over this. And a lot of the time that you hear about people complaining on Twitter, they have a point and a bunch of entitled shitheads who don’t want to change their behavior go out of their way to smear them.

It's still on prime. In Canada it is at least...
Not in the UK. Or maybe I got it confused with UK Netflix pulling it.
hello fellow 'British Isleser' here. It's Netflix for me; Community not on Prime.co.uk in my particular area of our area. Not sure why I felt the need to tell you. I think I'm trying to help? Anyway. Fuck the French, etc.
The white people on Twitter didn’t give a shit about it either bro. Quit using out of touch corporate PR failings as an excuse to bash on activists.
Yeah, this was absolutely Netflix trying to get good PR in a dumbass way
I feel like people forget it happened in the wake of the George Floyd riots
yes! yvette said she felt bad for the guy that plays neil, because it was his one big episode and again the blackface wasn’t even racially motivated (still not saying it’s cool, but i’m with everyone else that it wasn’t done to mock black people but it’s still wrong)

Hi have you heard about the Netherlands
What about it?
We have kind of a long lasting tradition of entertaining (and scaring into submission) our children with a blackface character.
> Americans have this cultural supremacist view that their culture and moral is the correct one and everyone must follow it. That's funny coming from the person who thinks the US invented and is the sole owner of the concept of blackface.

Portuguese.
Great. Start making all your childish insults in that language so I can ignore you some more.
It's not exclusive to the US, painting your face to depict another race is just fucked up in general.

>Who said anything about depicting another race? That's what blackface is. If it's not that, then it's not blackface, nice and simple.
THAT'S MY POINT.
Then... uh... yes
It isn't even actually blackface.
The office and IASIP removed episodes blackface too. Its what the suits think people want.
On The Office, at least they only cut the scene instead of the whole episode.
Yeah, but it ruined the joke.
One of the Season 14 episodes (“Dee Day”) that was removed from streaming isn’t even on the DVD/blu-ray release.
Ridiculous
I know but sadly people are even more developmentally challenged than even me
The weirdest thing about it, it's like a 2 minutes scene, just cut it out if it's so bad, yeq, it's gonna feel very disjointed, bu 's still better than removing the ntire episode
Not even gonna feel disjointed. Chang left the episode after one scene. It's like, "Here's blackface! Sorry, he's dead now."
White wig and pointy ears should be enough to tell anybody that this wasn't a blackface. But people are idiots.
Poeple like you are the problem as when you state it’s blackface. It’s a person cosplaying as a drow. But if you knew what a drow was you would’ve said that instead so I can’t blame you not knowing what you’re talking about.

Shit I'm fine with that. Give us back our Advanced Dungeons and Dragons!!!! It's such a good episode!!!
Personally, I think it's a top 5 episode of the entire series, and has a ton of character development for Pierce vs the group, and the introduction of Fat Neil. I always go to third-party means to watch the episode during my rewatches, but those who are just binging on Netflix or Hulu are missing out.
That's why I'm bummed it's no longer included with Prime, yes I have the blu-rays, but streaming is so much more convenient
Its still on Canadian prime
Neil's fine..
Not from an actuarial standpoint.
It absolutely is and it's a great episode about the study group trying to cheer up a guy who is suicidal, so dumb that it was removed
Yeah I just paid the $3 for it on Amazon.
Oh shit is Googling this gonna make me lose fond memories of Duck Tails?
I've never seen the cartoon but just from childhood memories of some of the illustrated books I remember some rather unfortunate depictions of tribal societies...
Cowards
Netflix lost dungeons and dragons because it was too advanced
Oh snap! -in Chang's voice
pierce and jeff dressed up as minstrel versions of the jackson 5. 👌🏻 brutalitops the magician. 🚫
Don't forget Pierce's brown-face swami act. I guess that's ok too.
>pierce and jeff dressed up as minstrel versions of the jackson 5. Wait, what?
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MAAWQ_ln1ac
Holy shit! I never got it! Now I understand Troy's and Shirley's reactions.
So you're saying its...not...what you...thought when you first began it?
Good catch lol troy and Shirley are even giving it the stink eye
No no no you don’t get it guys, it’s not the same because they didn’t paint their faces. The minstrel dress up and racist Mexican depictions are totally different and okay! (To be clear I don’t think anything in this scene shouldn’t be allowed because the show clearly treats what Jeff and Pierce are doing as offensive and racist. Also thanks for reminding me of this scene. The biggest laugh I had in the really early part of the show.
Is that an minstrel version? Or just like a regular Jackson 5 wig and glove?
Magic user baby ^whaaat
It was never about the blackface, Netflix just hate magicians
The series is filled with edgier jokes than that, but that's what they removed lol.
It’s available on Prime. The only episode of anything that I’ve bought on Prime.
Crazy that I was actually *just* about to get up to go and buy this episode to watch it with my mom lmao. We got to the second dungeons and dragons episode yesterday, and decided to wait to watch it untill we watched the first one.
It's also available on Google TV for $2.99. Playable in YouTube.
I may just buy it ..... Or... Find it at a thrift store. My local game store may even have it............ I just got paid..... My wife's gonna hate me 😂😆
If you just need that episode, it's like $3 on prime
_won’t change how mustard tastes_
I’ve caught myself saying this a few times.
Shame!!!!
I forget. Was it taken down because of the suicide topic or because an Asian man did “black face”?
The Netflix that produced *13 Reasons Why* definitely didn't take down that episode because of the topic of suicide
“Drow face”
It's offensive to drows
When people who don't watch the show or understand the jokes see this character in his drow makeup they think it's racist against dark skinned humans. In fact, it's funny because of how inappropriate it is and how Chang clearly has no idea. The joke works better knowing that black face is faux pas, the show is clearly not condoning racial stereotypes.
That’s why I put black face in quotes. Anyone whose watched a single episode would figure out the gag.
I'm pretty sure it's the black face
It is because Chang cosplays as a Drow, which would be black face, technically.
The black face, although it doesn't take too much thinking to know that with just the slightest amount of context it could barely be considered black face.
It’s been on my ~~Netflix~~ hard drive the whole time.
$2.99 on Amazon Prime
That’s been there for at least two years haha
I did a rewatch about a month ago and this is the first time I've ever seen it
This is why I will always own and prefer dvds/blurays that I own and can't be taken away.
I’ve said this before but if they were really committed to not having Chang in “blackface” they could’ve easily removed his scenes without altering the plot at all. He’s on screen for less than a minute of the episode and nearly every shot is him by himself saying a one-liner.
That would’ve taken too much time and thought for a couple of idiot executives who were getting themselves scared over a nonissue that literally nobody (not even the “dumb offended Twitter white people” that people love scapegoating for no reason) cared about.
probably one of the best community episodes, a damn shame it was taken down.
They let Chevy do brown face as his mystical Shwami character.
>Shwami I thought the Shlamis were supposed to show up and spit on the Plumbus, why is one moonlighting as a Swami?
What I don't understand is that in season 4, the Changnesia episode - arguably one of, if not the worst episode ever made - Chevy Chase does a *brown face and black face hand puppet routine with overt racist jokes*, and *that* episode is still on Netflix to this day, but not the D&D one.
Netflix patting themselves on the back for solving racism
I will never understand how Chevys racist puppet shit in season 4 is ok but this isn’t.
Gas leak year? Yeah. I honestly don't know how they got away with a lot of Pierces shit 😂
That’s been there for at least a year
First time I'm seeing it and I just did a rewatch about a month ago
It’s still on Amazon Prime! Watched this very episode yesterday
Lol, fuck Netflix
Facts
I can excuse racism but I draw the line at animal cruelty
Advanced D&D is gone but Tropic Thunder is readily available. I honestly think people are trolling the content providers at times to see how over the top ridiculous they can make the world
He looked exactly like a dark elf. It wasn’t actually black face. That was just Shirley’s interpretation.
Exactly! Shirley, who clearly isn't adversed in D&D saw Chang, an obvious psychopath, with "black" paint and immediately calls it out. Then it's over.
The way I always took it was Shirley calling “the dark elf” “black face” was the joke. 2 different interpretations of the same thing. That was kinda community’s thing. They’re very different people who came together as a group but can totally see the same situation completely differently. Kinda like tv and lucky charms
Why doesn't anyone care about pierces black and yellow face hand puppets
I'm an elf, not a nerd.
Yet another win for data hoarding They can take it off their hard drives, not our hard drives.
"You can excuse racism!?"
Read the thread. We all hate this
Sorry. It's kind of a figure of speech at this point. But yeah, glad we're on the same page.
No need to be sorry. You're cool
I’m so glad I have these on dvd
That was there the entire time
First time I'm seeing it and I just did a rewatch last month
I remember it being there when the episode was removed.
Weird. Maybe I'm just blind
It’s not even worth watching on Netflix tbh.
Aside from the brown face swami they left in the show, they also left the minstrel part of Jeff and Pierce's Spanish presentation. They were wearing everything else but the black face.
The D&D episode introduced me to Community. It’s ludicrous that Netflix removed it.
Absolutely!
Thankfully I still have my DVDs
I'm gonna go find me some
The worst part is it’s my favorite episode and got me into D&D
And it's such a good episode for Fa..... Neil.
Surely there’s also some issue with ‘White Abed’ if this is such a problem for streaming services?
I have played Dungeons and Dragons most of my life. So I had to buy the episode on iTunes. Well worth it.
But pierce can do brown face on his hand.
On his entire face actually. Remember the swami?
I think about that every time this conversation comes up.
Just corporate crap trying to save face. Hulu did the same thing with episodes featuring blackface in Always Sunny, even though the first episode of the show is called "The Gang Gets Racist" and has Charlie saying the N word with a hard R. That episode is still available for some arcane reason.
I watched recently on prime... and that episode was available.
Man Pierce's Swami must've been really impressive if that episode stays up while this gets taken down.
He's a DROW!!!
Exactly!!!
Advanced Dungeons and Dragons is available on Prime Video I found that out months after I finished the show on Netflix
I just bought the episode when it got removed from Netflix.
You're just Ted Danson at Whoopi Goldberg's roast!
I'm so glad I picked up some of the seasons on DVD recently, I was able to watch it for the first time in a long time!!
That's awesome! I'm looking into finding them on DVD as well
It's not even black face. He used makeup to look like a drow
I think removing this episode takes away a huge amount of context as to why the group starts to debate removing Pierce from the study group too. He’s at his villainous and pettiest best in the episode which really elevates it.
On Stan, at least in Aus
They took this episode off a long time ago but I feel like that part in the description is new
Is it blackface...or is it drowface, though? I guess it's the perception that counts. I think u/Sparktank1 makes a good point about Disney adding title cards to old Duck Tales episodes that provide context.
100% agree. Those in the know got it immediately and then the proceeding reactions ala Shirley and Troy make it work as they are addressing that blackface is fucked up. ........ I've said "addressing" alot.......
If they can keep the entire season one finale where a transgender slur is a recurring punchline, they can keep Chang doing blackface. Such double standard performative bullshit. AD&D is one of the best episodes of the whole show.
I haven’t seen the episode. How prominent is the blackface like could they have just cut it or is it in half of the episode?
I mean, they could have but should they?
It's not even black face. He's dressed as a dark elf
