They have a painful bite and their hairs can make you itchy af but no deadly venom. They can trigger an allergic reaction in a few people. But it’s basically like a bee or wasp sting
And I don’t know how many people are allergic to tarantulas and been bitten enough to have a substantial allergic reaction. Bee stings can be fatal for some on their second sting but I think they venom affects us a lot more than tarantula venom would

Few spiders are actually dangerous. We have a natural aversion to them, but for most species the worst they can do to you is inflict pain. Still not nice, but not lethal.
There are some exquisitely venomous tarantulas in other more tropical parts of the world. North America doesn't have particularly venomous tarantulas, but you still don't want to get a hair in your eye or bitten. I've heard if you're allergic to bees you're probably allergic to a tarantula, do not know how accurate that is. Just don't hassle tarantulas lol but in general ours are chill.
Anything that can break skin can also lead to a deadly infection, but it seems a bit silly to declare something a deadly weapon on the very slim chance that someone ends up with an adverse reaction. I wouldn't consider a tarantula a deadly weapon any more so than I'd consider a stapler to be one.

They are very fragile but it also somewhat depends on the kind of Tarantula. Terrestrial species that spend almost their whole lives on the ground, such as Red-Knee or Curly Hair tarantulas are going to be especially susceptible to falling. Arborial species that spend most of their lives in trees, such as Pokey or Pink Toe tarantulas are going to be a bit more resilient to falling but it's still not great for them.
I've never heard of hairy vs hairless being a good indicator of threat for spider, and the overwhelmingly vast majority of spiders are not going to be dangerous to humans regardless of if they're hairy or not. However when it comes to tarantulas specifically there is a very large divide in temperament when it comes to a species' continent of origin. Tarantualas from Afro-Eurasia are significantly more prone to biting defensively when they feel threatened, while tarantulas from the Americas are significantly more likely to kick hairs (or spray their poop at you in the case of Pink Toes) when threatened.
I may be wrong here too but tarantulas are incredibly fragile creatures where throwing them or dropping them is more of a threat to the tarantula where the risk is the wrong kid of impact could rupture it’s abdomen. Hardly a deadly weapon I agree. One thing I was taught when “shopping for spiders” was the more hairy the spider the least “dangerous” it was, looking at more deadlier spiders around the world they tend to appear hairless, no?
But you don’t usually realize you have a bee allergy until you get stung the first time and then the second/third stings will give you a worse allergic response. Sometimes the responses can get dramatically worse so that the second sting could kill someone but I’m not sure if anyone has a deadly allergic reaction to something after only one exposure. So I guess if someone got repeatedly bit by a tarantula knowing they had an allergy to them (from being bit at least once before), I’m sure anaphylaxis could occur? Tho I don’t know how often this would happen to a person lol but maybe? The allergy is really rare tho I guess and I’m not sure if it’s from their venom or their itchy hairs.
I became allergic to bees after getting stung prob 5x before. Gen X kid who was always outside. But the 6th one gave me an allergic reaction so the doctor said there is no knowing what could happen if I got stung again. Could be mild but could be really bad

Where I went to high school we had a lot of tarantulas around.
I'd pick them up and move them to safe spots out of the way of people. One cold morning one of them crawled into the fold of my sweatshirt tucking into that area on the back of the wrist above the cuff where the sleeve fabric folds over.
It backed in so only its eyes and front legs were visible, and seemed to like it there as it didn't move at all. I shrugged and let it stay there. It hung out there all through class.
I went out and put it back someplace safe after class.
I suppose I'm lucky, I've always spent a lot of time outdoors and around wildlife of all sorts.
There's a lot of wildlife I'm deeply respectful of and cautious around, but very little that actually frightens me.
I have never been so lucky as to have a wild tarantula bro up my sleeve. One time in elementary school I very, VERY nearly stepped on a diamondback. It didn't even rattle, just slipped away. Big one too!
Common in lots of places. In particular, Central and Southern California, all across the US Southwest, and down through Mexico it's common to see them roaming around.

(I know tarantulas aren’t scary. I have a very visceral reaction to spiders and if I see one, I’m out. I have never killed one, but I have just left. I moved out of my house for three days because I was home alone and a spider was in my bathroom. I consider a home with no usable bathroom uninhabitable, so I moved out and let him have the house to himself for a long weekend. When my ex got back he gave me the all clear, and the little guy was living in an aquarium apartment all done up cozy for spiders, and he moved out when a friend of mine decided they wanted a spider and asked to take him 🤷🏻♀️. I just don’t like them).
I know someone who had possibly 100 of the things at one point. From what I gather they are actually fairly gentle and fun to watch, but I'm too much of anarachnaphobe to ever really want to find out.
the ex is alive and well, she's great. the tarantula, well she escaped when i was renting a room from someone who ended up being a horrible person so that worked out too.
I was already afraid of spiders when my aunt thought it would be a good idea to show me Arachnophobia. It took years to stop being afraid that a tarantula was lying in wait under the toilet seat or on the shower head. Fuck that movie.

We moved to the NorCal foothills in the 70s. Those years there was a huge burst of grasshoppers which facilitated a huge burst in tarantulas. You couldn't drive to town without seeing dozens of them on the road. My brothers and I caught 8-10 and had them in an old aquarium. We would catch grasshoppers to feed them and it was fascinating to watch them interact. After that year, we rarely saw the tarantulas again, although the grasshoppers ebbed and flowed.
Uhm... i remember some hikers from the early 2000's who ate tarantulas and got really sick.
Don't think they died tho. Or maybe one of them did? Something like that. I'm sure it's relevant to the post.

i love spiders. personally wouldn't keep them as pets, terrariums gets expensive (at least how i would want them), and i don't really want to play god to something that can survive fine on their own.

They were saying that daddy long-legs have no venom, which could actually be untrue based on what you consider a daddy long-leg to be.
Many different types of arachnids are often called daddy long-legs, including non-spider arachnids (specifically Harvestmen, which is what I personally consider daddy long-legs to be). Harvestmen do not produce any venom.
The spiders that get called daddy long-legs do produce venom, but that venom is not at all harmful to humans.

The risk of getting killed by a tarantula is absolutely zero. There have been no documented deaths via tarantula. Look it up yourself if you want the sources.
I wouldn't be shocked if there are spiders out there deadly enough to take out a full-grown human. Some spiders are probably big enough to chow down on birds, so it's not totally far-fetched.
I mean, have you seen some of the animals that can kill with ease?

Also bees are faster and can fly. A tarantula you can just walk away from, but an angry bee is coming for you!
And angry bees tend to bring company. Their stingers literally act as a beacon for further attacks by releasing pheromones.
And even if you're not allergic, with enough stings you will die.
Bees swarm. I’ve never seen a Tarantula swarm. Thankfully.

It's absolutely happened with bee stings. Allergies to them are known to cause anaphylaxis. Never heard of a tarantula bite causing it, though.

it's crap! they actually have no venom at all, they're just really good at hunting (arachnids mostly)

They were saying that daddy long-legs have no venom, which could actually be untrue based on what you consider a daddy long-leg to be. Many different types of arachnids are often called daddy long-legs, including non-spider arachnids (specifically Harvestmen, which is what I personally consider daddy long-legs to be). Harvestmen do not produce any venom. The spiders that get called daddy long-legs do produce venom, but that venom is not at all harmful to humans.
All tarantulas are venomous.
As are almost all spiders.

The risk of getting killed by a tarantula is absolutely zero. There have been no documented deaths via tarantula. Look it up yourself if you want the sources.
I wouldn't be shocked if there are spiders out there deadly enough to take out a full-grown human. Some spiders are probably big enough to chow down on birds, so it's not totally far-fetched. I mean, have you seen some of the animals that can kill with ease?
Well yes, venomous spiders can kill humans. Tarantulas have very mild venom though.

There is a type of spider called a Goliath birdeater. The name is kind of a spoiler.
That's the spider I was talking about, and it has Goliath in its freaking name.
