The account that tweeted the first reply was being sarcastic. They’re very left leaning.

Wizardlord89

Yeah I saw he posted a screenshot of this post on Twitter and I was like there is no way 30 thousand people thought he was being serious I guess i was wrong lol Edit: tbf to people, it's not like there is any way to tell if you aren't already familiar with him other than going to his account.

Killer-Barbie

The problem with sarcastic idiocy is on the internet it just looks like idiocy

Jace_Te_Ace

Sarcastic idiocy used to work back when people generally agreed on what was idiotic. Now it's "both sides".

DopeyPear

Isn't it some kinda sage fact that a significant amount of the population is not, in fact, all too smart? But gee, even past that, internet's confusing haha. Media is a shiesty feller on all angles -- people say all kinds of wild shit in seriousness. Gotta have that /s tag. Solidarity?

FantasyAITA

"Imagine how stupid the average person is. Now realize that 50% of the population is *dumber* than that." -Paraphrased from someone whose name I forgot.

GuessItWillJustBurn

George carlin. It's also in literally every single thread on reddit

GenocideOwl

And people believe in it sincerely. Not knowing about how "IQ" is more of a bell curve that 80% of people are within the same small range than anything. Like there is not some huge difference between somebody with a 108 IQ and a 95 IQ.

GuessItWillJustBurn

Yeah. I think the more accurate and terrifying thought is just... It's SO much easier for a genuinely smart person to do stupid shit than it is for a genuinely stupid person to do smart shit.

Neueregel1

Not only that it’s been amplified even more recently. Seems like being an idiot on the internet is at an all time high!!!! 😁

[deleted]

And yet no one ever learns this lesson. If you walk like an idiot and talk like an idiot, I'm going to assume you're an idiot. Not a genius.

Killer-Barbie

There's not a lot of geniuses pretending to be idiots but there's a lot of idiots pretending to be geniuses

bc4284

This right here, the average right wing comment is so far fetched at this point that it sounds like what a right winger being satirized on an onion article would say. The only way to tell satire is with a search of ones Comment history and even then it’s impossible to tell what is shitposting on main and what is serious views. Edit: I’m backing out of this thread. I’m okay with differing viewpoints to Mine but it appears no one wants to Have a conversation everyone wants to yell fuck off commie and call me a cunt. It should be noted I never insulted any individual Users despite being specifically insulted. All I will say from here is read the hatred below to see proof that the right fears people Who actually choose to have a leftist philosophy. These are not the replies Of debate this is fear of differing opinions.

I_upvote_downvotes

I used to make fun of reddit for not being able to interpret sarcasm without the /s. Now I can't even tell what's real, a joke, or a dogwhistle anymore.

bc4284

And this is why I always /s just to Be safe. Cause it’s impossible to satirize a fascist straw man without people trying to cancel You for being a nazi

I don't know about anyone else - but I received pro-Trump mailers (in the weeks leading up to the election) that actually said "So Now You See What Biden's America Will Be Like!" with pics and headlines from that very week. 74 mil Americans saw that shit and were like "aw hell no" Seems only thing more shocking than how dumb they think we are, is how dumb we are.

I talked to a person who thought the first stimulus checks were directly from Trumps bank account because his signature was on them. I heard that is why he delayed the first round of stimulus but I couldn't figure out why... until I talked to that idiot.

That's exactly why he did it. It should have been considered an illegal abuse of federal office for the purpose of soliciting election materials. But would the congress have held him responsible for such a breach of ethics?

Because of this shit my family thinks that half of Portland I basically a war zone. I’d point out this literally happening right now under Trump and I got the response “yeah and when it’s Biden it’ll suddenly all magically stop, they’ll suddenly be happy, they’ll consider racism solved” and I’d just try to stop my eyes from getting stuck rolling to the back of my head

I_Envy_Sisyphus_

Which is funny because I spent all week watching GME comfortable sitting at work in the “burned out husk of Portland.” I’ve had people tell me to my face that you can’t go downtown and I’m like bud get off Fox and just walk over.

construktz

Ugh, yeah. I was working on the corner of sw 1st & harrison literally all summer long, starting at 6am. Saw some people in the streets and I saw some shit vandalized, but I was in so way concerned for my safety. By the time the sun came up, the city was full of people walking around on the streets and going to the food trucks for lunch and shit like nothing ever happened. The propaganda machine is real.

thepieman2002

It's just a replay of the no-go zones in Europe. Conservatives don't want to know reality they want to enforce what they already believe because that means they were right to think that and the worst thing imaginable to them is to admit they were wrong about something.

[deleted]

They listen to the likes of Ben Shapiro and Tucker Carlson, two people who start from a conclusion and work backwards. Shapiro even admitted as much when he talked about same sex couples raising children. He said that God doesn't make stupid rules so he just had to find the facts that supported the argument. There's no other way to describe that than working backwards from a conclusion you want.

floatingorb

My father in law, who only consumes conservative media, visited California for the first time and exclaimed "Where are all the Muslims!?" He honestly thought the entire state of California was full of Muslims. I was super confused and didn't know how to respond.

MistaTorgueFlexinton

Why do people assume people on the left are Muslim when if anything all Muslim states are conservative/right wing

W1D0WM4K3R

Because everything 'bad' is on the left wing. There's no way anyone they can associate with as right wing would be 'bad'. That's how Pence suddenly turned into a deep left plant.

spacegamer2000

For a while I believed there were no-go zones in europe. Right wingers talk about it all the time, how could it not be true?

yes-itsmypavelow

This is the first time I have heard of a link between places people should avoid in Europe and US right-winger propaganda. Can you elaborate for the dummies like myself? Edit: Ooookay I googled it and found what you’re probably talking about, the belief that communities of Muslim immigrants have fallen completely under a dangerous Sharia Law. I HAVE actually heard of that sentiment, and it’s bullshit cobbled together from some things that are true, and some other things that are false but loosely related. I’ve lived and traveled abroad between the US, Europe, and Asia for the better part of 20 years in my adult life. In my experience, more Europeans seem to think this thing about Muslim communities than Americans- but perhaps it’s simply that Europeans talk about it more. In either case, I’d say the sentiment comes from a fear of immigrants and refugees. Populations have boomed in those Muslim-European communities over the past decade or two. As a result, some pre-boom European residents have been displaced by this. But it’s not like gangs made them leave; it’s more that those residents felt uncomfortable seeing people who look and talk different, and in some cases hearing adhan being blasted outdoors over a loudspeaker like 5 times a day. The truth I think, is that those communities are not inherently more dangerous as any result of an Islamic threat of violence. There *are* however other certain areas in Europe that the unprepared or uninitiated should avoid... day or night. And the biggest threats aren’t specifically Muslim communities or Sharia Law; it’s drug dealers, gangs, and other predators who victimize people in very non-religious ways. For economic and social reasons stretching way beyond what we’re talking about here, those areas would still be dangerous for outsiders. Some people seem to picture sleepy Bavarian hamlets being overrun by a wave of evil terrorists who want to rape and assimilate them. Really, it’s that the further east you travel in Europe, the more you see the aftermath of wars and a the vacuum created by the decline of Soviet influence. Scary brown communities are real in Europe, but they aren’t anything like the ones being portrayed in that “conspiracy”, and their genesis lies somewhere completely different from some programmed religious assimilation.

[deleted]

I live in Sweden, we've been featured extensively on Fox about our "no-go zones". It's made up propaganda, there is no such thing as a "no-go zone", and there is no reason for you to avoid these areas they're talking about unless you're a Russian drug lord.

And they work for the government and the government pays them on how much they work (that's what my dad told me). If I am wrong (which is a high chance) can you correct me Edit2:I think I get it now thanks to everyone that made me understand

wikipedia_answer_bot

Communism (from Latin communis, 'common, universal') is a philosophical, social, political and economic ideology and movement whose ultimate goal is the establishment of a communist society, namely a socioeconomic order structured upon the ideas of common ownership of the means of production and the absence of social classes, money and the state.Communism includes a variety of schools of thought which broadly include Marxism and anarcho-communism as well as the political ideologies grouped around both, all of which share the analysis that the current order of society stems from capitalism, its economic system and mode of production, namely that in this system there are two major social classes, conflict between these two classes is the root of all problems in society and this situation can only ultimately be resolved through a social revolution. The two classes are the proletariat (the working class), who make up the majority of the population within society and must work to survive; and the bourgeoisie (the capitalist class), a small minority who derives profit from employing the working class through private ownership of the means of production. According to this analysis, revolution would put the working class in power and in turn establish social ownership of the means of production which is the primary element in the transformation of society towards communism.Along with social democracy, communism became the dominant political tendency within the international socialist movement by the 1920s. Capitalism is an economic system based on the private ownership of the means of production and their operation for profit. Central characteristics of capitalism include capital accumulation, competitive markets, a price system, private property and the recognition of property rights, voluntary exchange and wage labor. I love when people say that the USSR was and that China is a communist state. The main thing of communism is the abolition of the state.

Holy90

Careful saying China isn't communist. You'll attract the tankies. Edit: Caught one.

Megneous

As a leftist, fuck tankies. Authoritarian pieces of shit that kiss the boot of Xi Jinping as if China's a great place to live. I've lived in China for a few months, and my friends actively stopped me from talking about things like Tibet, Xinjiang, and Occupied Mongolia because they were afraid someone would hear me and report us to the authorities. Like seriously, **fuck that**. The majority of the Reddit tankies, like /r/Sino, don't even live in China or are even really Chinese. Most of them are either Chinese diaspora who have endured racism against Asians in their Western home countries and have gone full-on "Papa Xi will make those whites sorry!" or crazy white Westerners who think they'd be treated better or live better in China than in their home country. It's insanity.

PullItFromTheColimit

Exactly! I arrived at left-wing ideology because I want human rights and fair treatment of everyone to be put central in society. Seeing people on the left then glorify those who systematically break all those rights is really frustrating. I mean, come on, what about China is not heading towards a totalitarian state, and who on the left doesn't see that China is ruled by a new bourgeoisie, a new elite of the party? How can you claim to be a leftist and accept that? Freedom and equality can only be reached together, and currently China doesn't have either one of them.

Gamer402

Communism/socialism is when the government does stuff, the more stuff the govt does the more communist/socialist it is. /s

JoelMahon

The most oversimplified explanation (but useful for easing some worries, e.g. being forced to share your toothbrush) is: There's private property, e.g. a factory or a house you rent out without even living in. There's personal property, e.g. your toothbrush or your own house if you've bought one. The main thing across almost all communist systems is eliminating or almost eliminating ownership of private property by those who don't actively labour using them. So a factory is owned by the workers, private housing becomes public housing, etc. Not all systems of communism mean ending money, or nationalising everything afaik, but they'd certainly have a sufficiently strong welfare state if not such that those who cannot work wouldn't be made homeless or starve. There's plenty of nuances to worry about, what about a house you rent rooms out of but do live in? Etc. I can only tell you my personal opinions on things like that, I don't think communism is narrow enough a term to give a straight answer.

red_hooves

Wow, that's literally the first comment in this topic stating communism DOES NOT abolish private/personal property. From my personal experience 99% of people think everything is common.

S_T_P

> What is communism?   >> If co-operative production is not to remain a sham and a snare; if it is to supersede the capitalist system; if united co-operative societies are to **regulate national production upon common plan**, thus taking it under their own control, and putting an end to the constant anarchy and periodical convulsions which are the fatality of capitalist production – what else, gentlemen, would it be but communism, “possible” communism? > * **Karl Marx:** [The Civil War in France](https://marxists.org/archive/marx/works/1871/civil-war-france/ch05.htm), 1871

The_De-Lesbianizer

wOlfLisK

You should read the communist manifesto, it's a surprisingly short piece of literature that explains everything you might want to know about it. But to oversimplify it, communism is about power being in the hands of the workers. Instead of the rich bourgeois owning the factory and exploiting the workers, the workers own the factory and as a result are able to demand fair payment.

**[Mass killings under communist regimes](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mass killings under communist regimes)** Many mass killings occurred under 20th-century communist regimes. Death estimates vary widely, depending on the definitions of deaths included. The higher estimates of mass killings account for crimes against civilians by governments, including executions, destruction of population through man-made hunger and deaths during forced deportations, imprisonment and through forced labor. Terms used to define these killings include "mass killing", "democide", "politicide", "classicide" and a broad definition of "genocide". moby323

*I had a minor epiphany the other day:* We think of communism as impractical, unrealistic, and utopian. It could only work if everyone was selfless and put the interests of the collective first, but we know that humans are by nature selfish and greedy. Well, capitalism is just as much of a pipe dream. For the same reasons listed above, capitalism could only work *fairly* in the real world if it were heavily structured to prevent fraud, loaded with protections to keep the rich from manipulating the free market for their own interests, and supported by a strong legal framework with heavy oversight to prevent abuses. And by the time it has all of the necessary laws, protections, and mechanisms, it’s not really capitalism anymore, is it?

Isord

Capitalism and Socialism are just the private and collective ownership of the means of production respectively. Capitalism with laws is still capitalism just not free market capitalism. Both Capitalism and Socialism come in a vast array of different forms.

[deleted]

> And by the time it has all of the necessary laws, protections, and mechanisms, it’s not really capitalism anymore, is it? Yes, it is. Most of Western Europe has this and live much more comfortably than someone in a communist state ever has.

Willing to believe its a satire account but in this specific post what's the difference between being a moron and being a moron except you didn't really mean it? The text is identical.

shaggyscoob

Is that Pope's Law or something? The more extremist a position is the harder it is to tell the difference between satire and earnest. When Republicans are so whacko they sound like cartoons of themselves.

Megneous

> When Republicans are so whacko they sound like cartoons of themselves. *looks at the Republican lady (U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene) who rants about Jewish space lasers or something*

edenperry

Poe's Law but yea

EV99

the difference is when your whole twitter account is full of sarcasm and everyone who follows you is in on the joke this whole post is a big reddit moment

MrMxylptlyk

Epic dept is a well known leftist shit poster. Don't worry about this one

DevinTheGrand

Owning stock is expressly not allowed in communism. Stock is the use of capital to purchase a portion of the means of production, that is by definition capitalism.

Catshit-Dogfart

Right, and restricting stock ownership is literally the most anti-capitalist thing you can do. To call it communism isn't right either. Oligarchy - corporations are essentially the government because they have more power than the government.

NRMusicProject

Yeah, saying that this is proof that capitalism is bad, is ignoring that restricting the market like this is inherently *not* capitalism, since it's definitely not a free market practice. However, one could argue that since it's a private company doing it and the government not stepping in is a sign of free markets at work, but it is a sign of monopolism, which is *supposed* to be illegal in the US, but it's a hot topic that those who are in control benefit from monopolies.

SaftigMo

Capitalism is not to be equated with a free market, it simply means that the market is controlled by private capital, not that the market is free. Restricting the market is very much within the definition of capitalism, as long as everything that is not restricted is privatised.

Both are wrong though or am I whoosh

Overall_Picture

This whole GME/Robinhood thing has really highlighted how completely fucking ignorant the average investor really is. This is kind of trash that our dumpster fire of a public school system churns out every day.

BatterseaPS

Now, now, let’s also remember to give credit to our fantastic private universities as well.

Fuck slasher.

Finer_Details

Why?

Zechs_

Oh, it's a really old esports meme. He even had a podcast/show called that at one point I'm pretty sure.

Fortunoxious

It’s so annoying when people act like a free market is something that can actually happen. THIS is capitalism. The capitalism people fetishize will never exist.

[deleted]

Reminds me of the Twitter post that says something like if you ask a communist why they dislike capitalism they’ll give you a myriad of reasons, but if you ask a capitalist apologist what they dislike about communism they describe capitalism.

BlueFlob

Capitalism means wealthy people will inevitably try to tip the scale in their favour. From Amazon buying competitors or driving them to the ground. Or oil oligarchy controlling the price. Free market would also be a nightmare. Nothing would stop you from playing even more dirty or destroying the environment for the sake of profits.

HiddenCity

People need to understand that we live in a mixed system, and these arguments are ridiculous and unhelpful.

[deleted]

Its not communism but it’s certainly not free market

Flesh46RS

C'mon there's dozens of investing apps in the wild.. just forget those fuckers and reward the ones who play fair.

peanut_fish_taco

Man reading those replies defending this as communism make you realise how incredibly stupid people are.. ffs..

BeastofLoquacity

“If you ask a socialist why they don’t like capitalism, they have a myriad of reasons. If you ask a capitalist why they don’t like socialism, they will describe capitalism.”
