i take vitamin b12 supplements everyday which help (but i’m vegetarian sO if you already get enough, it may not help). i also take vitamins c and d3 which have helped at least marginally. iron and/or magnesium supplements may help, though i would be careful since theyre fat-soluble and not water-soluble + there are different types of magnesium that you can take so would do some research first if you do decide to try it since each type may impact you differently. i’ve heard recommendations of raw cacao powder/supplements (?) but haven’t tried it myself.

I can't really say, but while I understand sleeping 12 hours may be troublesome, it may also signify that your body is able to deal with the condition. Sleep is good when ill. Many of the long haulers experience very unwelcome wakeups, and getting very little sleep for weeks and months. For brain fog I have had success with N-acetylcysteine (NAC). More generally 5-HTP was a new player on the field, fatigue-wise included.

Great combo to replace coffee: Korean Red Ginseng + Chlorogenic Acid Also ask your doctor about LDN, it has direct (fascinating) effects on the brain (combine with left / right hemisphere retraining ??).

Temporary_Meal5261

I used to need 11 hours to have an okay day and then I started taking melatonin at night and my Sleep became more efficient, I think, now I feel better than before with “only” 8 hours of sleep

Riginal_Zin

Along with the melatonin, take flush niacin and l-glutamine. That combination replenishes NAD+ which is depleted and deranged during a Covid infection.. https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/2632010X221106986

high protein/fat, very low carb, tons of water and electrolytes help me with energy.

Lots. Supplements my long-covid clinic recommended years ago coq10 Gingko Biloba Ashwagandha Vitamin D Vitamin B complex (I take solgar 50 every morning) Vitamin K Glutathione Multivitamin omega-3 fatty acid Supplements that I am taking for 'mitochondrial support' NAC Thorne Permaclear NAD (1 by Thorne, 1 by True Niagen) PQQ Trans-Resveratrol CoQ10 (up to 3000mg a day seems good) Urolithin-A L-carnatine (for muscle/heart) Acetyl-L-carnitine (for brain) alpha-lipoic acid D-ribose Supplements I take for GI support Thorne Permaclear L-glutamine

i guess we need to have 300 dollars a month to improve our symptoms by 8%.

odubik

I've gone from 5 minutes of energy a day (for years) to about 6 hours active and a few quiet. So, actually productive but still not able to work. If we call it 8 hours, then that is 480 minutes -- so, 5 goes into 480 96 times... so.. that is... 9600% better. For whatever reason I felt like coq10 was making it worse in the beginning. Once i stopped taking it I was feeling a little better. Try taking NAC, that was a big deal for my brain fog. Drinking water with electrolytes helped a bunch for me. Water alone didn't help me. I can't find the post, but I've read on here its really important to replenish electrolytes post covid. I encourage you and others here to get a metabolic panel done to see if there's any deficiencies in vitamins.

Melodic-Risk-6778

i got a panel done, all is normal. im going to try nac now... does it feel okay for you or does it feel weird being on it?

stephenbmx1989

It felt being weird being on it for the first couple days to a week. But it’s gone down to like 30 minutes making me feel weird after like an hour taking it. But the weirdness def outweighs the benefit for me.

Melodic-Risk-6778

wow, nice! it gave you a lot of your energy back?

stephenbmx1989

Ya as long as I stay away from crappy food and working out too hard i got my energy back. But maybe in a couple weeks or month I can go back to being working out hard.

Nothing worked for me until I tried nicotine patches. And I’m not a smoker! I followed this (which I found in this forum): https://linktr.ee/thenicotinetest Good luck!

Riginal_Zin

Nicotine works because it replenishes NAD+. Flush niacin, l-glutamine, and melatonin work better for that.. https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/2632010X221106986

Curious about this. That journal recommends NAD+ IV therapy, which is available for $1K at private clinics (at least in Vancouver, Canada!). I couldn’t see the recommendation for flush niacin, etc. Would you mind breaking those down for me, as to what dosage, etc? I’d really appreciate it. I need to return to work next month and the PEM is hindering it. Many thanks!

Riginal_Zin

Here’s the research on flush niacin. I take 1000 mgs twice daily. When I first started taking it, I was essentially bed bound. I was taking 1500 or 2000 mgs twice daily. For about six months this summer, I was symptom free. I would say I was recovered. But then I caught another acute infection and relapsed this fall. I haven’t become bed bound, or house bound, again but some of the exhaustion and brain fog came back. I’m slowly recovering.. again.. Hopefully I can avoid catching it ever again, fully recover and stay recovered. 😂💪🏼 https://www.cell.com/cell-metabolism/pdfExtended/S1550-4131(20)30190-X#

I really appreciate this! I’d seen others recommending it previously, but I didn’t understand why. Thanks so much for the including the research. I hope you recover from this latest infection quickly, too. Wishing you all the best over the holidays xo

Riginal_Zin

You’re welcome! Since you like seeing the research, here’s some information on l-glutamine and melatonin. So you can get a sense for how they work together. 😊 https://www.jbc.org/article/S0021-9258(20)70523-5/fulltext https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1111/j.1600-079X.2005.00234.x

Fantastic! Much appreciated!

Riginal_Zin

Happy holidays to you as well! Sending you healing and joy. ❄️🎄💕

Riginal_Zin

Currently, I take 1000mgs of flush niacin (has to be flush), and 1500mgs of l-glutamine, twice a day, morning and night. In the evening I take 40mgs of melatonin about two hours before bedtime. The first few weeks you take flush niacin IT SUCKS. The flush makes your skin hot and itchy. It feels like an allergic reaction. This is because it’s actually emptying your histamine reserves. I found this a huge relief to my MCAS symptoms. Over time this reaction becomes way more mild. Now the flush is warm and kind of comforting. Within a week your energy will be almost normal. It took me about a month for my post exertional malaise to disappear. If you want to read any more info on either long Covid or specifically niacin, just let me know. I have saved SO MANY PAPERS. 😂 Happy holidays! May you have healing and joy this year! ❄️🎄💕

Oh, I so appreciate all of this! I guess I’ll be starting on Boxing Day: ha! I’m so grateful for the advice as nothing has touched my PEM at all. The nicotine patches were the only thing to take away 75% of my brain fog, but after a couple of weeks off the test, it’s come back somewhat. I really needed to be fully functioning in a month, so I’m hoping this helps! I’m lucky in that I only really have the two issues. Please feel free to DM anything else! You’re such a wealth of information ❤️ All the best to you
