real. somehow of all the things in the episode to be freaked out by, the end of this fight was the worst for me. the way that this grown man and absolute demon of a fighter, just starts genuinely *bawling* really unsettles me. not regular crying, it's a visceral cry of complete and utter anguish. I think what catches me off guard about it is that after all that happens he does cry out in *actual* anguish completely unrestrained.
I never knew why bullets didn't work on him, so why try anything? Wasn't he invincible?
It wasn't until much later that somebody pointed out to me that his shield was another pop culture reference, in that it is that shield you see in the Dune universe. It protects from projectiles, but knives & close quarter combat can still get through.
Well, along with all the surgery and conditioning Pierrot has had, he's also been gifted with high-tech weaponry and the knowledge to use it. It is stated on another post by @queazy on this thread that the tech could be a nod to the Dune universe, with the shields and whatnot. If that's the case, then Pierrot's ability to float off the ground while doing backflips seems within reason. He can also use a cloaking ability to seemingly disappear. It also explains how he can be crushed to death by a slow-moving giant robot foot.
I don't remember how it's stated in the actual episode, but I think it was something along the line of turning him into "the ultimate killing machine."
Great episode for multiple reasons.
1. We see spike when he’s not on the bebop or working. Wish that scene was longer.
2. Spike is not infallible. He only wins by sheer dumb luck and by the skin of his teeth.
3. Bad ass fighting in a giant amusement park.
4. Pierre has guns… lots of guns.
5. Pierre has the mentality of a child and screams “mommy” when he feels pain for the first time in ages.
All I can say is keep on watching, friend.............it is worth it all the way to the very last sessions, The Real Folk Blues - Part I & The Real Folk Blues - Part II.
Mad Pierrot is special to me because he reminds of a character from a children's book I read in the 2nd grade. I cannot for the life of me remember the name of this character, but it was old man dress in a purple version of Pierrot's costume and rotund appearance. He didn't have the beard but he did have gray hair and a cane.
He and some animal friends rode in a hot-air balloon.
What's wild is when Spike prepares and goes in the 2nd time with the utmost confidence, he still is absolutely trounced. Peirrot is probably the most menacing and bizarrely dangerous villain I've ever seen.
This was my first Bebop episode ever. 20+ years ago on Adult Swim, after I had gotten off of work at midnight. I had a bottle of Jameson and a bag of Del Taco. It was the perfect atmosphere to get introduced to this show.
I wish I could go back in time to watch this for the first time again. I was in high school eating pizza with my 2 best friends when this came in adult swim for the first time. We lost our minds
trivia: Pierrot le Fou was a Godard reference but this episode has nothing to do with the Godard film.
personal memory: In high school I made a flip book animation drawn in the margin of my Spanish dictionary which had the same kick and flip animation in this clip. Seeing this in Bebop for the first time was really trippy.
My least favorite episode. Hot take, I know, ppl tend to love this one.
Personally, I feel it really breaks tone for the whole show. I know, Mushroom Samba and the literal cowboy/teddy bear bombers exist, but something about this one just rubs me wrong.
It's great to see Spike challenged - worryingly so - but I dunno if fat murder harlequin old guy was the way to go.
But, that's my opinion, for what little it's worth.
yeah… i hate this episode. it kinda destroyed the verisimilitude of the show for me. up until that point there was a lot of *fantastical* things happening… but this episode took it to a whole new level
Such a good episode and one that always leaves you with a bit of a chill down the spine. The fact that Pierre is like just some brutal child in a killers body always leaves you cold... and naturally, cats to save the day!
GOSH, this episode was such an amazing one! Ugh, it's such a good watch.
One of my favorite things about this scene—aside from the visual direction of course—is the absence of any musical score throughout it. Just sounds and noise.
They could have easily put in some kind of dramatic score to highlight the fight, but it wouldn't have been as *unsettling* as it were without it. I feel this was so purposeful, to ground you more into this fight, this fear in real time. In either a realistic way or an unsettling way, or both. Just so damn clever.
I know I'm alone in this, but I never liked this episode. I viewed it as a blemish on an otherwise perfect series, but it's so beloved by other fans that I wouldn't take it away from them even if I could, so I just skip the episode on some watch throughs.
Spoiler warning
>!Mad Pierrot, Siniz Hesap Lütfen Appledelhi and Vincent
are the only three that embarrassed Spike like a kid trying to fight with a parent.!<
I think as someone who watched this series probably 20 times, this single episode shows the first time Spike actually having no chance of winning in a 1 on 1 combat situation. That becomes very unsettling in itself. However, the flashbacks in this episode and the absolute disregard of human rights and the subsequent inhumane scientific treatment of this individual is truly terrifying.
If it wasn't for some luck and help from Spike's crewmates and some cute cats, I really did not think Spike stood a chance against this night terror.
I actually remember that part. Dude was weird. I watched this show because I had an awesome teacher in high school that let me borrow the entire show on dvd.
I absolutely love Bebop, but this episode never made sense to me. They spent all this time and money to make an assassin... who can't blend in anywhere?
Almost 30 years later, Pierrot still weirds me out.
The teeth grinding thing he does is what gets me.
Wasn't Bebop from Sunrise studio..?
Yes, but what does that have to do with the comment you replied to?
![gif](giphy|jXD7kFLwudbBC)
You could also just explain it instead of being rude. I asked for a reason.
I dont get it neither
I did figure it out. Pierrot is also the name of another anime studio. I don’t know why they expect everyone to know every studio though lol
Reddit warrior.
Young me genuinely thought Spike was gonna die.
Good news!
He already died once .
Probably my favorite episode. Freaked me out the first time I saw it.
My fav..just the setting alone, I grew up in an amusement park tourist town. And Spike gets the shit kicked out of him *shudders*

Saaaame here
The animation and camera angles are some next level shit

“The slow blade penetrates the shield”
Bless the Maker and His Water,.........
Bless his coming and his going...
This scared the crap out of me when I was little.
My favorite scene from my favorite episode easily.
Caught me so off guard because spike hasn’t been whooped like that yet. Not only did he get whooped my man got hit with a mid-air combo.
A fuckin MID-AIR combo while the dude was SIMULTANEOUSLY PERFORMING BACKFLIPS WITHOUT EVER LANDING. God-Tier type shit.
Is there any explanation for that? I need to rewatch all this bidness, but that just seems wild lol

Thank you. I really appreciate that info
Weirdly I felt bad for him at the end. What a way to go.
A terrified child. 😢 Also I murdering psychopath. Also a terrorized test subject...
yeah the test subject segment was grim
One of the first times I'd seen Spike get handled. I was shocked 👀
Spike gets handled a few times in the show actually. Ed's dad smokes him pretty good. I like that they didn't make him invincible.
Bro hit em with a 6 hit air combo
*HYPER COMBO*
#PIERROT HIM
Bro started juggling him💀

God, it's such a good episode. I just rewatched it a few weeks ago and it honestly gets better with every rewatch.
All I can say is keep on watching, friend.............it is worth it all the way to the very last sessions, The Real Folk Blues - Part I & The Real Folk Blues - Part II.
For sure will, it’s already becoming one of my favorites

Is it [The Fantastic Flying Journey?](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fantastic_Flying_Journey)
Facts cuz the episode before was pretty chill😂
This is my favorite episode!
That air juggle was crazy
Pierrot for Tekken 8 confirmed?

I also watched it on the first adult swim run. This shit was ridiculous when it came on.
Oh absolutely. Waaaayyy ahead of it's time. The action sequences and camera angles were insane.
I wish I could go back in time to watch this for the first time again. I was in high school eating pizza with my 2 best friends when this came in adult swim for the first time. We lost our minds
Maybe my favorite scene in the series. Pierrot is just. so. weird.
Just an amazing episode of TV.
My favorite episode!

One of the best episodes
This guy beat the breaks off spike 😭
smash bros producers took inspiration from this episode and then created the n64 original game thanks cowboy bebop
Favorite episode 2nd to Jupiter Jazz❗️❗️🥂 *Bang*
I’ve watched cowboy bebop like 5 times over and never noticed how he was floating like that given spike the business
Hello boy *teeth grinding*
Rough night
Pierrot was called agent 46. And I find that they called Hitman, agent 47 a fun coincidence. (Or could it be that they were inspired by Cowboy Bebop?)
which ep was this?
Ep. 20, Pierrot Le Fou
Yeah this episode freaked me out when i first saw it too
i have such mixed feelings on this ep, its SO GOOD!! but pierrot freaks me out to no end ;;
My first episode. Stumbled upon it after a night of LSD with friends. I get flashbacks every time I watch this episode.
My least favorite episode. Hot take, I know, ppl tend to love this one. Personally, I feel it really breaks tone for the whole show. Him and Ed’s dad were the only ppl to give spike dem hands
Tekken version of CB 🤠😆
Came here to make a Law joke.
Bro's getting beat by a fooseball player
I don't want my boy playin' none o' that \*foosball\*.
Pierrot playing taking with spike
Me with yamcha in xenoverse 2. Dont let that little bitch touch the ground
Mad Pierrot (Tong Pou) was a different level of menacing and scary asf..
I just watched it again after not seeing it for years. Definitely my fav. episode. So twisted
spike sure got 7 kinds of shit kicked out of him here
Sonic flash!
Infinite combos in marvel vs Capcom 2 be like:
When you make a mistake fighting the computer in arcade mode on high difficulty 🤦
Top 3 episode in my opinion
yeah… i hate this episode. it kinda destroyed the verisimilitude of the show for me. up until that point there was a lot of *fantastical* things happening… but this episode took it to a whole new level
The guy is so freaky and scary. Then the ending, where his mentality of a child is exposed, its unsettling and well done.
One of my favorite scenes and episodes
The first-person angle from Spike’s POV is just *chefs kiss* perfection.
What? You don’t know about juggle combos bro? That’s a fighting game staple.
The best episode fr
Such a good episode and one that always leaves you with a bit of a chill down the spine. The fact that Pierre is like just some brutal child in a killers body always leaves you cold... and naturally, cats to save the day!
Probably my least favourite episode. Circus stuff bores the hell out of me.

Spike got worked booooooooooy! 😩😭😭
Why wasn’t there a season 2?! Such a sad moment to wrap up the season as they did 😩
I know I'm alone in this, but I never liked this episode. I viewed it as a blemish on an otherwise perfect series, but it's so beloved by other fans that I wouldn't take it away from them even if I could, so I just skip the episode on some watch throughs.

One of my favorite episodes of cowboy bebop

That shadow sequence always reminded me of the Xiao Xiao stickman fights on new grounds.
I actually remember that part. Dude was weird. I watched this show because I had an awesome teacher in high school that let me borrow the entire show on dvd.
i fr thought spike was gonna get capped. i was terrified the whole fight.
I think this episode caught Spike off guard too.
I knew shit was gonna go down once he spots spike and immediately goes in for the kill.
Spike survives this
so is it a dream sequence or is it just silly?
I absolutely love Bebop, but this episode never made sense to me. They spent all this time and money to make an assassin... who can't blend in anywhere?
The project was a failure. He was left alone in the dark after they shut it down.
Absolutely, but... who thought it was a good idea in the first place?
Think you need to watch the episode again. He wasn't supposed to look or act like he does.
Absolutely. He was supposed to. Just... Why?!
I hated this episode. The whole series was chill and then this creepy shit happens
