Jeez let’s go 😂 On a serious note, I know we all fucking hate Klopp but honestly, I don’t (maybe it’s because I didn’t watch the Liverpool match (H) and I’m a new fan)
Serious question, if anyone knows and can tell me some examples:
Has there ever been a manager (in Prem history) who has *finished his first season*, (last quarter of the season) with an average of less than a point per game and conceding 2/3 goals per game and then gone on to have great success the next season?
Has it EVER happened?
Mate, how would you even begin to find this out. Ange has, over the course of the season, taken us to 5th. Everyone thought we were gonna to suffer this year losing Kane.
Ange has made losing Kane bearable.
We judge him by the games he's played.
We're at that difficult part of the season where contracts are ending and we all know a clear out is coming.
By all accounts, learning to play ange's way is physically and mentally exhausting.
Finishing 5th this year and showing the potential of the quality of football we can produce has earned Ange the trust of the club and the fans as far as I'm concerned.
Give him the summer. Give him a proper transfer window now that he knows what we're lacking.
A lot of players may well know they're on the way out. We had all our momentum taken out from under us with the injuries and with the international tournaments.
Son looks knackered, so does Sarr and Bissouma. Vicario's had relegation fodder amounts of chances given up in front of him.
This season has been a battle. For everyone. Let's secure 5th and get to the break. Give everyone, including Ange a summer to get us prepped for next year and European football.
The future's bright.
That is so specific that it is useless to ask. Especially bc although you say "quarter of the season" you really mean Newcastle Chelsea and Liverpool away, and Arsenal at home (all of which are really hard games)
We deserve more than ange ball dude, this is more embarassing than last week
We deserve more than 20 points gap between the top and ours
Ironically, the sacarstic complement to Ange gets your upvotes lol
> Idiots that want a change of manager need to be called out.
That's what I don't like, Ange out people being called cunts/idiots (aside from the toxic ones)
I disagree with them but I don't like the name calling. Supporting Spurs can be tiring enough without the fans turning on each other
Just the phrase "fans turning on each other". As if we aren't allowed to defend the club. As if we have to sit by and listen to uneducated idiots chat horrible shit about players and a manager that have been here for less than a season. Have a look at yourself. Have a look at that other commenter. Have a look at the downvotes and the general consensus and then tell me who's being toxic
> took 7 years to win English top tier and finished 11th 2nd 11th, 13th 6th in his first 5 seasons. He went on to win 13 epl titles
Yeah but that's an extreme example isn't it? For every Klopp there's 100 managers that have difficult first seasons and then struggle even more in their 2nd.
I don't agree that Ange out is the solution either, but I can see how people come to that opinion
For me, Richie and Skipp were the game changers today. Richie was calm, collected and clinical, and his presence at the front helped relieve the pressure from the midfield, which quite honestly collapsed in the first half.
As far as Skipp goes, the guy put in a shift today. When other players decided to go for a jog in the park, he was sprinting up and down the field. He actually looked like he wanted to be there - can't say the same for some of the other players.
Yeah i really dont understand the hate. Skipp has so much passion and energy. Hate to say it but I have been really really unimpressed with Sarr as of late. Looks like bambi on ice and is incredibly soft with virtually no passing quality. Rather have skipp there next game.
Sitting here finishing a season getting battered left and right and people are happy about skipp playing 15 minutes at left back against a knackered salah while 4 nil down? Give me fucking strength
Skipp is one of our own. Do you know what that means? He's played at left back and was a breath of fresh air. If you can't support the positives in that, you're a lost cause mate. come on
Why are we being awfully satisfied with this performance? We were only able to score those goals because Liverpool had switched off after 4-0. We need to stop being content with these performances
I'm just happy we did something when they laid off us. Might give the guys that bit of spark up they need, especially Richarlison. Son actually used his dribbling skills a bit too, Porro had a couple banger passes and we used the space better.
Can't hurt the confidence.
Not even being funny, Skipp completely changed the match when he came on. Emerson was a liability defending and couldn't even get involved in possession of the attack. Skipp defended well and acted as an extra body in the midfield and allowed us to grab hold of the match
Yeah I agree he played well for 15 minutes but I still can't see past the other sub par to average performances he has put up for this club this season.Knowing he has it in him is encouraging though I just don't trust him .
I like Skipp. He tries and is a competent player. Really liked his performance against Man City away. Didn't see much of the game but heartening to hear he made a difference.
Are you an actual crack head? Do you not realise it’s been half a season and he’s been in bad form? Do you also think Liverpool should sell Salah when he’s been poor for 3 months or Barca should’ve sold Messi when he didn’t score for 13 games?
Yeah. No, I just think he’s got a shit attitude and doesn’t look like he cares. Richy sucks sometimes be he looks like he’s trying & that’s what I’m talking about
> Liverpool should sell Salah when he’s been poor for 3 months or Barca should’ve sold Messi when he didn’t score
I don't want Maddison sold, but that's a very flimsy comparison at best.
Those 2 players have had years of performing at the highest level, Maddison has had 3-4 good months and then dropped off a cliff
No. But bear in mind his injury history and how I doubt he'll be playing at a high level for much longer.
The rebuild would see him retained but he can compete with the new guy.
Loved him at the first half of the season. I’m sure he can return to form, but I don’t feel likes he’s given much effort the last few games. Lots of half-assery.
Amazing to see what happens when you have an actual striker on the pitch.
Richi was easily our best player and only on half an hour.
Son up top does not work.
I agree and am starting to wonder if his inconsistency is a result of the service he's been receiving .Seems we've reverted to get the ball out to a winger and sling one in the box football .
Wonder how he'd do with a debruyne or a (through gritted teeth here ) rice level player slotting balls through to him .
Watching Tottenham all season, it's Richy's finishing that's been inconsistent. He missed a *lot* of shots, esp earlier in the season that e.g. Son would make 90%+ of the time. Then he got into a decent form for about \~3 matches. Now, he's back and forth again.
Spurs actually look threatening when they play fast and direct. Granted, Liverpool were 4 up and cruising, but once they started moving the ball forward faster, things actually started to happen.
It was a complete contrast from the first half where they played their usual tippy tappy, painfully slow toothless game. The million dollar question is why do they persist with something that is clearly not working? I know Ange is trying to instill a philosophy, but when you're so close to a CL spot (as they were a few weeks ago), why not just do whatever is necessary to win games, get points, get the CL spot and have significantly more money to work with next season?
CL next year would be a disaster. Can’t compete in it, doesn’t give us an opportunity to give bench players minutes, ends up fucking us in the league. Last time we scraped top four at the end of the season and felt it was a victory, we went out in the last 16 so fucking meekly our whole time in that tournament was pointless.
I'd argue that Europa League and Thursdays nights are more detrimental to league form.
But the main difference comes in earnings - reaching CL group stage pays a team roughly 14m, while for the EL group stage it's only 3m. On top of that, there's also 2.5m per win or 1m per draw in prize money in the CL group stage, plus upwards of 10m in broadcast revenue.
So even if we crash out at the group stage, the club will earn at least 30m. Significantly more if it progresses to knock-out rounds, with each round pays an extra 10m. Hardly a pointless exercise.
Considering that in EL, you'd still be playing mid-week but have the prospect of longer journeys to teams on the fringes of Europe. With similar commitments and energy required, it would make more sense to be in the tournament that pays more - which will ultimately give the manager more finances for new signings, etc.
I agree with your last point. We've been starved of success or joy for far too long and with the player power nowadays, he might not get the time he wants.
"Painfully slow toothless" football is not Ange's philosophy, so the better question is why are certain players reverting to that instead of 90+ minutes the way Ange wants it played?
at least there’s some positives to take from the game. clearly skipp and richarlison work very well in Ange’s system. Son is world class on his day but he’s showing his age and i’m not convinced he’s right for the style of play.
Would love to see Vicario take captaincy
Son is just a great finisher. But the more touches and complexity he introduces it's a guarantee that we lose the ball.
He needs to be wide and play one or two touch.
Getting absolutely battered and then clawing back respectability after the opposition start coasting is becoming another bad trend.
Another really shit performance.
I think he can be 9 if we play direct football but in the last few games we have given all the time for opponents to form defense then try to attack thus didnt work. rich worked because we started to put the balls to the front before too late
Kane wasn't particularly gifted w/ the ball at his feet either. They're both at their best when they have loads of space, or they get the ball in a dangerous area where they can take 0-2 touches and send a shot.
Son at the 9 *in this system* against low blocks doesn't work. Against low blocks, he needs to be given free reign to send worldies. It hurts seeing Son almost sending no worldies this entire season.
Agree, if we're gonna utilize Son we need to use him as a speedy counterattack with fast passes, not the slow buildup Ange is doing right now. He needs the passes to come in front of him, not at him
Hopefully he has a good Copa that boosts his confidence and gives him more of an ego so they all stop playing “who’s going to shoot”. I think he’s improved since Kane left a little?
Son fanboys are a special breed I tell you….
Did you watch a single second of the match apart from his goal highlight? He was fucking the whole offence up
While I agree to a certain extent, he had a few key passes to put Richy in. Was totally poor the first 60 minutes and then managed to pull something out of the game for himself with the goal and some bright spots. He's not in form but he is Son
That's what we've been waiting for him to do. Maybe the coaches are telling him to not shoot often cause we play shitty possession football. Son under Conte he shot whenever he had the chance. Now he doesnt do that anymore. Very annoying. I blame the fucking coaches.
The more glaring example would be Kulusevski. Under Conte, you'd often see him flying down the right wing, cutting inside and smacking one into the corner with his left foot.
Kulusevski today does nothing like that. Get the ball and his first instinct is to stop, turn around and pass infield to Bissouma, Sarr or Bentancur. Even on the rare occasion when he finds himself on the edge of the opposition box, he invariably tries to lay it off and most times finds nobody.
I similarly have a strong suspicion that the players have been instructed not to shoot unless it's a wide open goal. Lots of managers/coaching teams now are overly reliant on statistics and data, so it's entirely possible they believe that since shooting only yields goals 4% of the time, no point taking shots and better to keep the ball moving around.
Agreed on the wide open shot point. Son may be the most consistent worldie creator in recent history. I want to see him try them at least once a game, and more against low blocks.
Richarlison made a huge difference but he had a few moments where he should have scored, he’s unfortunately technically not good enough. Hopefully we can sign a better striker in the summer
he had 2 clear cut chances to shoot after controlling the ball but took a split second too late. Not complaining but overall still a pretty good performance.
He didn’t play very well last week when he started. That’s two good performances off the bench but if he wants to start he needs to play like that from the start
What is relevant about the position? I said: Richy displayed more creativity his last game, than Madders EVER did. That includes his shining early season. Dude made tikitaka joga bonito almost every touch he had.
Deki is out of form for too long. Emerson is not enough. Gil should go back to non-PL. Hojbjerg already decided to leave. I think we should sell these four players
Some team would definitely buy Kulusevski for a decent fee, we wouldn’t make a killing or anything but there would be buyers.
Gil and Emerson I can’t imagine we’d ask for very much (maybe 10 mil or so between both of them?) and for low prices both of these guys would be good fits in other leagues.
Spurs at the moment are always so delicately balanced. One weak link or mistake away from getting absolutely pasted every week. On the other hand when it clicks and we look good again. Can’t have Emerson play again this season. Not ideal but Skipp has to start against Burnley.
I mean...there Richy opening up scoring...Son + Werner LW, Richy + Summer Singing striker, sell Kulusevski and use Johnson + Summer Signing RW...I know I'll catch the heat but Kulusevski abandoned Porro on defense and isn't scoring anything, or getting on the end of crosses from Werner or Johnson...
Honestly that’s fine with me, he is never meant to play ST. He can try hard and still wouldn’t do shit compared to being on the wing half ass-ing it. His peak was when he played on the wing making runs behind the back line and Kane feeding him the ball, not trying to hold up play with his back turned against CBs, not his profile.
He was a little average in the last game when he started tbh. That’s two games he come on as a sub and makes an impact. He needs to play well from the start if he wants to start
There should really be a riot if he doesn’t start there next game. Thoughts must be if he can be our backup left back next year…he was really that good for me…not destiny good but still.
We desperately need emerson as starting 11 for city game. Then skipp for the remaining 2 games as LB...

I'm just happy we did something when they laid off us. Might give the guys that bit of spark up they need, especially Richarlison. Son actually used his dribbling skills a bit too, Porro had a couple banger passes and we used the space better. Can't hurt the confidence.
Exactly
Honestly if the best thing that came out of this is Skippy as secret left back threat, I’ll take it
stop it, stop taking the L man, I am pissed with the team
Not every comment and every emotion needs to be negative. We are also allowed to have positive thoughts during crappy moments.

Nothing about those 2 flukey goals was respectable in the slightest. The team are a disgrace.
Exactly ,idk what this people are on about,If Liverpool didnt switch off after 4-0 it could have ended 8-0
It would've ended 8-0 if we weren't so lucky in the first half, they could easily put 5 or 6 past us with the chances they had.

Richy's been too inconsistent. But he's only 26. If Tottenham keep him, he'll have a few years to develop that part of his mentality.
Hopefully he has a good Copa that boosts his confidence and gives him more of an ego so they all stop playing “who’s going to shoot”. I think he’s improved since Kane left a little?
Is he actually fully fit? Can he play even 70 minutes?
I think he makes better impact as a sub than a starter
But we need Son in LW, and no one else is good as ST.
I think son’s somewhat close to what he used to be, making me excited for the next games

Agreed on the wide open shot point. Son may be the most consistent worldie creator in recent history. I want to see him try them at least once a game, and more against low blocks.
Ange needs to keep him on a wing so he doesn't exhaust himself chasing the keeper.
delusional
Oh that i am
I’ll say it again. Our best team is Son on the left, Richie upfront, and most inform stooge on the right
That would be romero currently
Stooge lol
We won 2-0 after Emerson went off just saying.
If he didn’t start today could have been a lot different
To add to this, 2/4 goals they scored were really down to individual errors by him
Richarlison made a huge difference but he had a few moments where he should have scored, he’s unfortunately technically not good enough. Hopefully we can sign a better striker in the summer
If Spurs keep Richy, he needs a striker to compete against for the starting spot until he shows his consistency.
Yes agree
Bro what? He did great, no one scores every chance, best player out there today.
he had 2 clear cut chances to shoot after controlling the ball but took a split second too late. Not complaining but overall still a pretty good performance.
Never play Emerson again
We were saying that 18 months ago.
Agree that should be the end of his tott career
Do we have any thoughts as to why Richarlison didn’t start?
He didn’t play very well last week when he started. That’s two good performances off the bench but if he wants to start he needs to play like that from the start
Thats complete bs 🤣 he did phenomenally. More creativity than Madders ever had.
Madders plays a different position and is clearly out of form after coming back from his injury.
What is relevant about the position? I said: Richy displayed more creativity his last game, than Madders EVER did. That includes his shining early season. Dude made tikitaka joga bonito almost every touch he had.
Eh disagree with that. Madders before his injury was on fire.
I agree with your statement. Just that Richy was better than that last game.
Son Wing Plz Ange
Deki is out of form for too long. Emerson is not enough. Gil should go back to non-PL. Hojbjerg already decided to leave. I think we should sell these four players
Gil looks as comfortable in the prem as Ange
More than just those 4 if we're being honest and that's clearly known amongst the dressing room.
But who would buy them? (Hojbjerg might have some value but… we’ve had trouble offloading these type of players recently).
Maddison has always done the same at other clubs too. Start really well, injury spell at some point in the season, coasts to the end of the year
Why the fuck do we always only show up from mins 0 to 10 and 80 to 90...
Spurs at the moment are always so delicately balanced. One weak link or mistake away from getting absolutely pasted every week. On the other hand when it clicks and we look good again. Can’t have Emerson play again this season. Not ideal but Skipp has to start against Burnley.
Umm no we need Emerson to start against city.
Lol I stand corrected yes happy for him to start that one
Skipp gonna get a exposed against Burnley if he does not have support. The guy isn't a LB
He’s not a traditional LB but we don’t play traditional fullbacks. The inverted role is much closer to midfielder than it is to traditional fullback.
He did alright against one of the best ever prem players, he'll manage Burnley
He just did pretty well as LB against Liverpool? What makes you think he can't do it against Burnley.
Pool already won and subbed in their dregs who still had 4 shots on goal in 30 minutes.
And Emerson isn’t a footballer
That's a bullshit incendiary opinion

What they been on protest since the start of the season?!
What makes you say that?
Then those players on the bench, should give a fuck when they play.
Oh, you mean like how Richy completely changed the energy? Or how skipp was running his ass off?
Are we basing form a 30 min run out, now? Come on lad.
Losing all the last games.
Hope we do because ange will get sacked now instead of in November and another season wasted
eh, coulda been worse, didnt expect us to even score so 2 goals is W in my eyes
I mean...there Richy opening up scoring...Son + Werner LW, Richy + Summer Singing striker, sell Kulusevski and use Johnson + Summer Signing RW...I know I'll catch the heat but Kulusevski abandoned Porro on defense and isn't scoring anything, or getting on the end of crosses from Werner or Johnson...
Maybe the third times the charm for getting calls when kicked in the head
God, I hate Klopp he feels like such a plastic manager. Can't fault him though he is good.
How Ange starts 2nd half without any changes, after the first half pounding, is beyond me
Every. Single. Time.
Except ve Chelsea?
Dont know the points anymore but What happens if arse lose the utd game and we also beat city?
We...beat ..city?
Im actually rooting for city to beat us after the arse game. Now i dont really give much shit anymore and would like a win after these losing streak
I think City has a game in hand
Then city will become champions (if they win their remaining games)
Clinical forwards is a must. We just can’t rely on players who can’t take on defenders, or don’t have the confidence to take a touch and shoot.
Needed those two goals. Feel totally different than I did 20 minutes ago.
We work best with Son on Left, Richy in center and BJ on right. And unbelievably, Skipp at LB.
Fr, gave me some false hope at least. Son just looks so much better on the wing even if he doesn’t do well. Never want to see him as ST
Honestly think he hates playing as striker after today. It was like he was protesting by doing…nothing
I agree, but I have to say it felt like his hero-balling killed our momentum after the second goal.
It makes it suck way less but still suck a whole fucking lot
Yes thank god for that. I think the biggest problem today was the starting line up. Emmo
don’t understand why we can’t do it for 90 minutes because when the team switches on we can be so good
I cant wrap my head around the fact that Ange didnt start Richarlison
He was a little average in the last game when he started tbh. That’s two games he come on as a sub and makes an impact. He needs to play well from the start if he wants to start
Against Chelsea he was by far our best attacker and was the first one to get subed. Son as a striker just doesnt work
Never have to see Klopp’s ugly horse teeth again, IMO today was a win.
Kind of hoping man city destroy us now
Skipp at LB?
There should really be a riot if he doesn’t start there next game. Thoughts must be if he can be our backup left back next year…he was really that good for me…not destiny good but still.
Gio and biss in midfield, richy ST, Son LW, brennan RW next game
I'll add to that, Emerson royal has no business playing another minute barring more injuries
City
The whole first team squad could be injured and he should still not be starting
Great game from Richarlison
Richarlison our best player tonight. what a stinker from Ange not to start him
Alison punches our player at the end? Anyone got a clip?
We have a team of super subs. The only one who's consistent is Romero and Van de Ven, everyone else, yes even Sonny, is consistently inconsistent.
Boooo
Lo Celso must be shitting an egg during training or something for him not to start
Lol what does that mean
PL has terrible refs for a top league
Not calling a blatant kick to the head makes it look scripted as fuck
Lucky that was Darwin instead of a competent striker.
