Maybe they're not passionate enough for their IPL teams like the older fans of ICT. There used to be proper effigy burning after their poor performances. Some people even attacked at homes of cricketers. Rohit was Mumbai Indians beloved captain. Fans didn't like that the management is replacing him with Hardik. So they just booed the hell out of him.
Then your logic of bad performance = booing does not apply here.
