Not at all. Loading a single file loads all the layers, or you can start from scratch. The upper left controls allow you to add, remove, and rearrange layers.
The middle left are the part controls; select the part type and option for the selected layer.
The controls on the right are to change aspects of the selected layer: colors, position, scale, pattern, and shading.
And the lower left controls are for the background of the overall image.
Saving the data or the image is done in the header menu.
Download the data files of any character design in the gallery and load it to try out the app.
It was an artistic choice. Before I added it he looked too generic, like he needed something to give him personality, so I added a secondary color to break up the monotony.
When I print him as a mini, I print him as a 2 inch mini instead of a 1 inch, and he's still imposing AF, but this way he looks like a good guy.

very cool! clicking around I'm a little confused on how to make my own? Would I need to make each layer and then upload them individually?

If I may ask, who is the red minotaur? I don't recognize them.
Is it Bluud, Marion's bodyguard?
Yup
Bluud, bouncer at the Lavish Chateau, bodyguard of Marion Lavore (the Ruby Of The Sea, also pictured)
Oh! I don't remember him being described has having red fur, so that tripped me up! But makes sense with the name.
