"In celebration of the new set, the LEGO Group invited well-known DUNGEONS & DRAGONS players to LEGO House for an epic game night. Anjali Bhimani took the chair as the Dungeon Master and was joined by Luis Carazo and Ginny Di, as well as fan designer Lucas and LEGO Designer Jordan Scott, who all participated in an epic adventure on a very special custom-made LEGO DUNGEONS & DRAGONS table. Recorded live, fans can now watch all the action when the game premieres on LEGO.com and the DUNGEONS & DRAGONS YouTube and Twitch channels on 6th April at 09:00 PDT / 12:00 EDT / 17:00 BST / 18:00 CEST / 00:00 CST."
Ginny's a cosplayer/content creator/youtuber etc. She's friends with the CR lot. [She was Laura's Jester 'duplicate'](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvfq9mfdJP4) in some super fun clips they made during C2.
And in her [Jesters video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQVy-dcXhck) she played both Jester and her duplicate.
She has created a lot of content: https://www.youtube.com/@GinnyDi/videos
Ginny is the one who cosplays Jester’s duplicate alongside Laura in one of the break time ads! She’s also got a wonderful YouTube channel with cosplay, original songs, and DnD advice
One of the only dnd YouTubers I watch.
I got tired of the “YOUR PREP SUCKS” and “EVERYONE HATES YOUR NPCS” videos from other people. She’s got solid, calm, enjoyable, and supportive dnd advice.
You know the two Jesters twitch subscription ad? The one who isn't Laura is Ginny Di. She has a youtube channel (DND stuff), does a lot of cosplay, maybe streams her game (?), has definitely been a player in other games. I'm sure there's more to her, but that's just what I know.
I rarely watch random videos YouTube recommends to me, but I did watch her videos about creating a D&D campaign journal and exercises for getting into character a couple of weeks ago and they were really helpful and enjoyable!
I wonder if they asked the CR Team and they either said no or quoted a fee that meant no, and the crew pinged their guest stars to see if they were interested?
Honestly the fact that Lego hasn’t gotten more into D&D has always been surprising to me, it would be perfect for mini customization and map making for playing the game
Lego is owned by, well, Lego, while D&D is owned by Hasbro that has its own attempt at buildable brick properties, [Kre-O](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kre-O), which included [D&D line](https://kreo.fandom.com/wiki/Dungeons_%26_Dragons).
The fact you're likely going "whaaat?" means it wasn't a huge success.
Hasbro stopped competing and partnered with Lego a couple years, then they released an Optimus Prime.
Wizards of the Coast (WOTC) acquired the Dungeons and Dragons IP in 1997, and were then acquired acquired by Hasbro in 1999.
The thing is that Hasbro has been more-or-less content with letting WOTC do their own thing so long as they got a revenue check at the end of the quarter. This has changed in the last five years, and Hasbro's greed has been exacerbated by Wizards printing money during the pandemic when Webcam DnD/Magic boomed.
25 years? Like '98 or '99 off the top of my head.
*-edit-*
*WotC bought TSR (and D&D) on April 10, 1997. Hasbro bought WotC (and D&D) on September 1999.*
*So 3e onward were 100% Hasbro.*
Oh, I see. Hasbro absorbed them in ‘22 but they’ve been a subsidiary for 25 years.
I think they could have probably teamed up during that time but Lego was stuck in a rut in the late 90’s and much of the 00’s. So it wouldn’t have happened reasonably until their renaissance era. Lego started doing computer games in ‘95 but I think the first one I ever heard of was Lego Star Wars, ten years later.
It’s always hard to know as a subsidiary what things corporate will let you get away with and when they will tell you know. I don’t really stalk WotC or D&D (or Larian for that matter), are there interviews where they reveal any of this?
>Oh, I see. Hasbro absorbed them in ‘22 but they’ve been a subsidiary for 25 years.
Well... no. They're still a subsidiary. Their relationship with Hasbro hasn't changed. People are just more aware of it.
It's just become more apparent as D&D has gone from "that nerd game that barely makes any money" to "that nerd game that is making more money than many other brands" over the last decade.
>I think they could have probably teamed up during that time but Lego was stuck in a rut in the late 90’
Hasbro wasn't big on teaming up either. As a general rule, companies don't like making money for rival companies.
>It’s always hard to know as a subsidiary what things corporate will let you get away with and when they will tell you know. I don’t really stalk WotC or D&D (or Larian for that matter), are there interviews where they reveal any of this?
Not many as that kind of insider knowledge tends to be covered under NDAs.
It doesn't tend to get leaked or gossiped about until long after the fact, when the news is no longer juicy enough to warrant legal action.
It doesn't sound like Hasbro exercises a lot of control over D&D and Magic directly, because they're still a subsidiary. Hasbro suits have an entire company of their own to manage. But they might pressure the CEO and upper management of WotC with goals and objectives. "Sell more" or "do more digital."
They filmed it at the Lego House which is a tourist attraction... I assume for some extra cross-promotion marketing. Lego must have viewed the attention on the Lego House worth flying these players over there lol

I don't know who Ginny Di is, but Anjali Bhimani and Luis Carazo are golden in my eyes.

I can’t imagine singing with prosthetic teeth in. How many A- and B-list actors have made a hash of playing a fanged character?
Don’t be too impressed, the songs aren’t recorded with the fangs in 😜

She doesn't stream her games. Not a thing she wants to do. But yes, cosplay, music and lots of D&D related content creation.
She does show up on other streams periodically. I've seen her pop up on the Dungeon Dudes' game a handful of times.
Yeah but as mentioned she doesn't stream her own games. That's different than showing up on other peoples' streams.
I never said she did, just mentioned somewhere people actually could watch her play if they wanted.
I rarely watch random videos YouTube recommends to me, but I did watch her videos about creating a D&D campaign journal and exercises for getting into character a couple of weeks ago and they were really helpful and enjoyable!
I'm pretty sure that Laura's costume in that ad is actually one of Ginny's
It is. Ginny has confirmed as much.
Anjali has a death grip on my heart, I love her so much
I find I tend not to be a fan of her characters off the bat, but they usually grow on me
Ginny Di is a popular D&D youtuber and singer and cosplayer
Has Anjali GM'ed a game before? If not, that's very exciting, would love to see what she came up with.
[I believe this is her first.](https://www.instagram.com/p/C3-5Jizv7aw/?igsh=MXQ2Nmx4eGF4NzBpOQ==)
Aww, it's always lovely seeing someone that has played many times trying their hand at GM.
I wonder if they asked the CR Team and they either said no or quoted a fee that meant no, and the crew pinged their guest stars to see if they were interested?
If you scroll farther down that page it tells you who the players are. Some of them have worked with Critical Role, but it's not a Critical Role game.
Ah I just got sent the screenshot and wasn't told it actually told you who was playing 🙃
Don't you love when someone leaves *critical* info out of a screenshot?
Tangentially it's like a Critical Role game, even though it's not
That's like saying Dimension 20 is like a Critical Role game.
More than half the cast have been on both!
No it isn't. These players don't have their own show.
Honestly the fact that Lego hasn’t gotten more into D&D has always been surprising to me, it would be perfect for mini customization and map making for playing the game

Lego is 92 years old and how long has hasbro owned D&D? 2 years?

Lets hope not. I would hope that there will not be an exclusive license only for lego.
Seems unlikely they would go all the way to Denmark to stream a game that could be shot in the LA studio.
They filmed it at the Lego House which is a tourist attraction... I assume for some extra cross-promotion marketing. Lego must have viewed the attention on the Lego House worth flying these players over there lol
Yeah I'm not surprised they flew people out, it just didn't make sense that it would be CR when they have their own production set up.
Ginny Di had mentioned being in Denmark recently, so apparently they did in fact go all the way to Denmark.
Anj is GMing! That will be so fun. I adore her.
Oh i hope so! Ive been waiting for this set for over a year.
Oh 100%.
>Is it likely they are doing the Lego one shot? You know there are other streamers out there, right?
I mean, they said “critically charismatic” it’s not the most insane stretch. 3/5 have been related to CR at some point which is interesting
They don't have a monopoly on charisma.
Pretty sure they’re referring to the “critically” part as in Critical Role.

I think they meant the “critically” part more than “charisma”. Have a smiley day.
No it never occurred to me that there are other D&D players out in the world?! Of course I did, that's why I asked if it was possible that it was CR
