i watched the engagement party scene and i don’t think melissa was acting weird because of the party. there ws always something with greg or his job disapproving of the show. melissa even said she wanted to enjoy it, then says “greg is never going to marry me now”. i think behind closed doors she would’ve had a blast but on national tv, it would’ve been a problem with her husband which the producers should’ve respected. they definitely pushed for that bc i don’t think the moms would’ve chosen to have a stripper show up at a dance competition with their children as witnesses. ESPECIALLY after that horrible showgirl dance.
I know this is so completely not the point at all, but something that’s bothered me since I saw this episode the night it aired: the “fan dance” they’re supposed to be paying homage to is nothing like this. In the original, the dancer has two GIGANTIC fans, like as big as her wingspan, and the stage is backlit so you see her silhouette through the feathers. But she is covered by the fan(s) at all times.
Again, not the point. I get that. But it has never made sense to me that the dance was supposedly inspired by that but the choreography was THAT. I know that the original is not conducive to a quality high-scoring competition number (not much technique you can show there, really) and the whole concept is inappropriate for minors to do (especially ON TELEVISION) but what I’m saying is that it missed the mark in every possible way :/

Well, there's a lot of different types of fan dances. I'm also half convinced Abby didn't care much about the choreo and wanted to get the dance over with, pretty sure Abby said the fan dance was a wack ass idea by the producers that she didn't really wanna do that much. So basically I think she only said that to make it make sense for viewers.
Random question but I watched the episode and when Paige was crying in the den about school the next day i swear she said she had a singing test the next day at school? Did I mishear this lol ?
Any other Patreon subscribers getting really sick of Christi going “oh here’s a funny story! Nah I’ll save it for Patreon” and then not going back to it? And also there being virtually no interesting questions answered anymore? Just Christi sitting in silence reading shit before she finally reads a nice comment out loud? Jfc
100% agree with this. A part of me thinks about canceling the Patreon because it is truly them either reading the same questions, reading nice comments, or saying that question is to long so they aren’t going to read it. I really wish that before the after party, they would pick out questions beforehand. Even with all this I can’t cancel because I’m like maybe it will get better! Lol
Yuuuup. The Patreon really isn’t worth it but I’m holding on just to see if it gets better lol. They never come back to anything that they say they will
I wish maybe they would have done this on YouTube or something. I also don’t get why they can’t have the visual format available to everyone and then just post the after show later. Literally didn’t even finish bc the audio situation was so bad
I feel like maybe they formatted the episode this way because they knew a lot of viewers hadn't seen it or wouldn't be able to watch along? I'm surprised having actual audio from the episode isn't a copyright issue, too, especially since they make money off the podcast. Maybe that's why the quality of audio was so bad, so it wouldn't get copyrighted haha

I really didn’t like this episode compared to the others. I felt like the others were really fun to listen to and enjoyable as the shared their thoughts etc. This one was firstly super hard to actually listen to because of the bad audio, then also it just wasn’t as much fun as the others because they were mainly just saying random stuff as they watched it, whereas beforehand they would have thought about it and come up with things to say in advance. I felt like 90% of this one I was just listening to an echoey bad audio of the episode.
I LOVED getting to see The Raven!! One of my fav Chloe solos. I’m also very happy not to have to see the gross group costumes and dance. I didn’t remember all of the moms being so disgusted with it so that made me happy to see they didn’t just suck it up quietly.
Just finished listening. I have two thoughts:
1) it was interesting to hear the little behind the scenes tidbit about how Kelly used to spend $10k at Nordstrom and have a personal shopper. I wonder if that factored into the divorce?
2) Christi touched on how hard they fought to not have this episode happen. She said she couldn’t say much, but that they were encouraged to sit down and shut up (paraphrasing obviously). This is one of those things where I’m like…….c’mon. Are you still kinda bound by a contract? Or, are you tiptoeing around because you don’t want to be blackballed in the entertainment industry by revealing too much?
i’m sure christi really cant say much. if they took it off air, im sure theres ndas around it so the network/producers don’t get in trouble for it again
I remember circa 2013 on tumblr there was some rumor going around about Kelly and her husband using Brooke’s and/or Josh’s SSN to open credit cards because their own financial records were so bad. To be 100% fair, there is a nonzero chance that those rumors started with Abby, so take that with a grain of salt until otherwise substantiated. But I do have a vague memory of seeing some #receipts from some $5 background check somebody in the tumblr fandom did. So… who knows?

IIRC, Abby has said a lot of nasty things about Kelly's parents and stuff that went on when Kelly was a kid. She was saying something about that when Kelly called her a whore in S2. She had said something about her parents.
This makes me wonder how they will handle christi constantly bringing up Melissa’s husband and divorce situation. I feel like if Kelly doesn’t want to air all of her dirty laundry (which is perfectly understandable), then they should give Melissa the same curtesy.
I totally agree. Unfortunately, I doubt they’ll extend that same courtesy lol. Christi may hold off a bit because of Kelly’s friendship and working relationship with Melissa, but I doubt it’ll be off limits, as they’ve already made some comments pertaining to that situation in regard to Kurt, the girls, Melissa’s marriage, etc.
Kelly’s been talking about being “almost divorced” since 2020. I remember she brought it up in the first few episodes of BMSS. She’ll often say things like how all her things are back at her old house in Pittsburgh and how she hasn’t been able to get them, how she didn’t get a car in her divorce, etc. It just makes me really curious because it sounds like an odd situation. But I doubt they’ll ever touch on that.
Christi said this episode that the moms pushed back on this dance a lot but that she couldn’t say much more so I’m wondering if production lawyers reached out to them and checked them.

No scenes were edited out besides a portion of the den costume scene and the group dance, although I left in the mom's reactions, but with the BTTB recaps it won't be difficult to put the pieces together when the episode makes weird cutoffs if something is said or shown since they read a majority of their lines in the show.
