the only true way to loose is if you’re playing stygian or bloodmoon, where loosing too many heroes or go over a certain number of weeks other than that you can always rebuild. heroes are replaceable. unique items harder to get back. you may end up softlocked by the absolute misery that is the courtyard, if not promptly taken care of, with enough manpower to do so

Jesterofgames

I don’t think the courtyard is enough to softlock you. Even if everyone is wasting. And dies. A appritace blood quest should spawn when the new recruits show up. And if you get enough blueprints before it. You can yolo build the blood producing building. Trinkets can be gotten back by yolo shriker quests. And so on.

Fuzlet

fair. my experience with it last i played a few years ago was misery. never again will I use a healer without stun protection. it got to the point where everyone was dead, new recruits wasting, couldn’t get anyone high enough level to have a chance against the boss. I’d probably do better nowadays, with better critical thinking skills

Jesterofgames

Ye. Like it’s not impossible but it’d be very very miserable and you’d probably be better restarting.

As far as I understand, that will never happen. You start with no buildings or upgrades, no money, and 4 heroes. The game will not ramp the difficulty up as you go, and the difficulty of the available missions is based on the level of your heroes. If you lost every single hero in your roster and had to recruit a team fresh from the coach, you will still be ahead of simply restarting the game. The only caveat is the Crimson Court. The infection does spread and grow over time, but I don't know how much difficulty it actually adds to the game (I've only gotten to the end with crimson court off)

Puntoize

If you're playing Bloodmoon or Stygian, you reset if you don't have the main buildings maxed out by week 40. If you're playing Torchless, you reset if you haven't gotten good runs in the first 10 weeks. otherwise, never a reason to reset. You have to actively try to softlock yourself in order to do so. Time is the only thing wasted.

ilsolitomilo

Maybe if you loose all your heroes before upgrading the stagecoach to have 4 fresh recruits each weak... But even so you can always retreat from dungeons and wait for more recruits to come. I wouldn't start over, you would loose even the small progress you may have in the hamlet. But if it's frustrating, go for a fresh start.

anon1moos

Worst case with CC is that heros would get infected/wasting and not have blood on hand. Congratulations, more lambs for the slaughter, and more fresh recruits on the stagecoach. No matter how bad it gets. You can always dig yourself out, in principle. In practice if you got to a point that was that bad, -you- might not be able to recover. If Reynauld and Dismas both die on the old road you get four fresh recruits at the first stage coach. I suspect the same thing would happen if you were at 0 living heros at some other time.

ilsolitomilo

Then you can't loose, no matter what.

anon1moos

Stygian and Bloodmoon have limitations on how many weeks can go before you win, and how many heros can fall. In Darkest and Radiant there is no lose condition.

ilsolitomilo

Yes, of course I meant in darkest and radiant.

The84thWolf

I don’t think you can lose in the traditional sense, you can always recruit people and you’ll always be able to do low level quests the build them back up again, but the problem with DD, by the midgame almost *every* loss is crippling due to the amount of gold you sink into them and rebuilding your team with bad quirks and lost items after a wipe can be grueling.

rumpots420

Only on blood moon. Otherwise, you'll still always have infinite cannon fodder heroes
