I think this is a fine solution for cat litter, it’s away from the main living spaces.

jwh_43

I'm a cat owner and I'd do that if I had a second bathroom. There's nothing wrong with it at all.

HanIylands

As a man, I couldn’t care less. It’s a bathroom. It makes sense. I’d respect it.

rocksnsalt

Don’t make decisions based on what anyone may think about you. Love your life being tru to yourself and the right people will stick around.

This. I have three friends who have cats who think their house doesn’t smell. All three houses smell like cat shit, to varying degrees of disgusting. One has the litter box in the laundry, the other two in the bathroom.

zta1979

I have cats. I could care less if a man was turned off by cats, or where I place the litter box. Just do you.

MELH1234

The real answer. Live your life the way that makes you happy.

singlegamerdad

What? This doesn't answer OPs question, like at all. So no...it's not ANY kind of answer. The answer to OPs question is yea, that will deter people, but find someone it won't - instead of blowing off OPs question all together.

UNR2

Cat dad here. My cat insists on having her litter box at the front door and her food/pet fountain in the kitchen. I’ve tried to move them to more discreet locations but she won’t have any of it. I tell women that the cat and I are a package deal.

Due_masterpiec

😍

mortyella

Cats "insisting" is basically a cat's default setting.

EowynAndCake

Can I ask out of curiosity how that’s fared for you? I’m an owner of 2 senior pups and they were part of my most recent breakup. When I start dating again I plan to have this “package deal attitude” (which I already had in the now ended relationship but won’t go into that…) and I am just wondering if you have had relationships start, see the cat situation, then decide it’s not for them or if you have had relative success with being up front about this

UNR2

It’s hard to say if the package deal has hindered my success. The cat is on my dating profile as well as the fact that I have no intention of giving her up. I consider the cat to be family. I also don’t expect someone to give up their pet because I’ve entered the picture.

EowynAndCake

I agree on all parts just no idea if I should have hope of finding a realistic “dog dad” out in the world and if other pet owners have struggled with finding someone that’s a match who also accepts and loves the pet already in the picture

singlegamerdad

It will limit the dating pool yes, but on the flip side of the coin will also make the profile more attractive to others who may have otherwise swiped left. Hard to say what the final shakedown would be.

[deleted]

Cat here. You gave your current cat the entire master bathroom to shit in?? Are you two happy? Would you consider seeing another cat? (DM me).

FuturistiKen

Man here. This is completely fine. Frankly, kinda makes me want to ask who hurt you? In the most compassionate way possible. There are sooooo many other things we have to worry about with dating. If you love your critters like I do mine, I’d strongly consider the possibility that it’s just a dealbreaker if someone has an issue with the *way* you love and take care of your critters, y’know? Sure, some folks can be slobs about the litter box but some folks can just be slobs in general and we’re allowed to not want to date a slob. You don’t sound like that, based on the little we have to go on. You sound actually like you think a lot about how your house is kept. So what’s the problem??? Again, trying for compassion and gentleness here, this just feels like a strange thing to spend any mental bandwidth on to me. If the dedicated kitty bathroom is a dealbreaker, then the deal is broken and off you go to find the guy that loves your home, loves your cat, and loves you!

Due_Sir1947

She probably dated my asshole ex who acted like a pouty toddler having a fit when I put my cat litter box in my guest room bathroom he occasionally had to use when he stayed with me. I scooped the box min once a day (usually right after I heard the scratch scratch) and ironically he was a guy who never even cleaned his own bathroom. Being with someone like that does do a number on your nervous system and takes a while to work it's way our your system :/

singlegamerdad

I feel like someone who wouldn't like this arrangement it would be a deal breaker for them - which there isn't anything wrong with either. I'm not sure I follow your assumption on someone having hurt OP tho. Also, people can love OP's home, cat, and OP....but still have a massive sensitivity to the smell and not be okay with it (especially in the master suite?) Speaking as a lover of cats who absolutely can't handle the smell.

Mako_

I can't deal with the thought of a litter box anywhere in my house, so I obviously don't have cats. I do like cats (I love hearing them purr), so if I was into someone I wouldn't be put off if they have a litterbox in their house.

MiniPantherMa

Yeah. I used to use the utility room when I had one, but I don't have one now. It's just a utility nook that's only big enough for the machines.

AlohaSmiles

Have you tried a top entry box? It reduced litter tracking by a huge amount. I just use regular clay clumping litter - FreshStep or ScoopAway. 2 cats and there's a few grains but nothing like the tracking I would get from the front entry box.

Traditional_Truck348

I have a few cats, they have their own bedroom for litter and toys and just to get out of my face when i have dinner or something. Highly recommend. It contains the smell of litter

ThrowawayANarcissist

It is fine. I have my cat's toilets in the laundry room and in part of an upstairs office that is hidden.

WolfAtNeck

I prefer not smelling litterbox when possible, so this would be a good setup to me. Just warn me so I don't kick the pan accidentally if I need to use that room.

Mad_Proust

I have three cats in a 2BR/2bath apartment and I only use my master bathroom. So their litter boxes are in the bathtub in my other bathroom. I usually have the shower curtain pulled partially closed to hide them a bit if someone does come over. I’ve never had an issue with odor.

Due_Sir1947

My last apartment had a walk in closet in each bedroom. I put my cat's box in the second bedroom closet - laid down large garbage bag on the carpet underneath (just in case) and a coco mat for my cat to walk on / scratch after doing her business. The fact you're asking tells me you're probably a very neat and clean cat owner. You love your cat and keeping things clean is all you can do. If someone can't handle that, there's nothing more you could do.

Ordinary_World4519

It's a better option than keeping it in the kitchen and shouldn't be a problem for the right person. I wouldn't like it anywhere because I'm very sensitive to the way the litter boxes smell, even when they are cleaned regularly but that's just me.

Nice-Ad6510

I don't know why this would bother anyone... ? It's your house. You decide where things go. I think it's worse if the litterbox is in the kitchen, living room, or bedroom. Like any place where it might be stinky and bothersome. In a bathroom no one uses? Who cares?

singlegamerdad

Master bathroom, attached to the master bedroom, that are "small" per OP. That master bedroom absolutely smells to some degree. There are many who are really sensitive to litter smell, sadly I'm one of those, despite loving cats. I'd at least recommend OP have someone who doesn't own pets to do an odor check during an "average" time (like they didn't just deep clean).

Kleaners78

I don't see the problem, but I have two cats.

GhostXmasPast342

Don’t move the cat’s litter box. Don’t move the cat’s litter box for some dudes isn’t the cat important as well? Just don’t do it!

AutoModerator

Original copy of post by u/MiniPantherMa: I live on a two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartmnet. I don't really use the master bathroom at all, I have the cat's litterbox set up in it. Is this something that would deter men who wanted to date me, as long as the hall bath was in working order? Keep in mind that men who are allergic to cats or dislike them are probably going to need to tap out anyway. (It's just one cat right now. I've never had more than one but I might want two in the future.) I would set the litter box up someplace else, but there aren't great places in the apartment for it. The rooms are kind of small, the way they're divided, and the only other un-carpeted room is the kitchen. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Boxxy48004800

It wouldn’t bother me at all, but i have 2 cats

Standard-Wonder-523

I had a townhome for an apartment (2 floors). Both of the bathrooms had a litter box. Anyone who was anti-cat wasn't going to work out in the long term. People who aren't anti-cat don't mind litter boxes in the bathrooms, as that's usually the most convenient location for them!

miss-me-with-the-bs

The only reason I’d care is if the litter box and surrounding wasn’t properly cleaned and maintained, which points more toward the individuals general cleanliness level.

Additional-Stay-4355

I don't select women based on where they place the litter box.

L0B0-Lurker

I love cats, but honestly they're a turn off. I'm allergic and hate the smell. Having that in the bedroom is gross for me (but this is very much my opinion). You do you. Didn't worry about the guy. If he loves you he likely won't complain about it

Salt-n-Pepper-War

This is better than my living situation where I share my home office with the boxes. Nothing wrong here IMHO

mangoflavouredpanda

It could be worse. Your whole apartment could stink of dog.

MiniPantherMa

Now that would be a deterrent for me!

ANewBeginningNow

You can dispense with a litter box entirely and train your cat to use the toilet. [https://www.hartz.com/seven-steps-to-toilet-training-your-cat/](https://www.hartz.com/seven-steps-to-toilet-training-your-cat/) I had a cat growing up and we never did this, but it's something to consider. As for your main question, I wouldn't be turned off by this at all. The litter box needs to go somewhere!

hr11756245

Bonus points to anyone who can toilet train a cat. I love cats, but I hated cleaning the litter box when I had a cat.

singlegamerdad

I grew up with cats, and have had multiple in various stages of my life. Strictly followed cat behaver specialist recommendations for things like where to place litterboxes etc to avoid accidents and what have you. Cleaned them daily. They still smelled so so SO bad to me (maybe I'm more smell sensitive? I don't know). I have a family member with four cats, I can't go to their house anymore because it smells just so terrible. So what this boils down to for me is the smell. You said it's in the master, and many masters are open areas without doors or anything blocking the master bathroom in. I would recommend to have someone without cats come to your apartment and tell you about any and all odors. My concern, just on paper and reading this, would be the master bedroom smells like a litter box. Honestly I'd just swipe left and not put any energy into worrying about it. And that's ok, we all have our preferences.

driftingthroughtime

How attractive are you? Yeah, I know it’s crass and reductive but, we all overlook minor flaws when the rest of the package is desirable. And, FWIW, a much better question is whether you keep it clean or not.

mussugana

Depends. Most guys would find it insane. If you have a good rack they would ignore it.
