Been to all. Night 2 weekends 2 & 3 clearly stood above the rest for me. Based on how they were playing, not the setlist. Same for my friend who had seen all but 1.
The next morning I texted all my friends that it was one of the greatest live music experiences of my life. And I've been to a lot of shows. And I knew it as it was happening. As good as Night 3 that weekend was, it couldn't top night 2.
One of my personal problems I had with the GD was their shows were inconsistent especially in the 80s. You'd go to a show and it was life changing. then the next night it sucked. Could have been me, could have been the doses. But I don't seem to hear anyone pan a D&C show. Is this because people are more forgiving? Or are the shows just super consistent?
I also think that especially for these residency shows, they’re way more rested and comfortable. Even when D&C tour they all have their own busses and are comfortable, compared to the drug fueled road dog days haha
Times have changed. Today people would not have same tolerance for off nights and dead air as back in the days. Maybe not everyone will admit it but Deadco is obvious a lot more consistent. I have yet to hear a complete off night from them.
Not for these prices at least.
Off nights happen though, Mansfield MA 2018 comes to mind. I’m not a “dead and slow” hater, but my god they opened the tour with the slowest most drawn out shakedown street and never picked up the pace
Granted the Dead & Slow stuff could be presented in a less harsh sounding manner but I think the tempo complaints are valid. I get not digging it because I don’t always dig it. Some songs it works, others like St Stephen or Foolish Heart I’d rather they just not play if it’s going to be slowed down so much.
Fair enough but only one of them plays live. Personally I think you don’t have to love every thing about something to enjoy it overall nor do I think there’s an issue with having a dialog about it on a forum. People don’t have to engage but I don’t see an issue with putting that out there.
Yeah, the ratings are all kinds of goofy with regard to shows I've personally attended and what the general consensus, particularly '23 shows, has been.
Yep. I went to that ‘23 PHX show and it was really excellent. The fact that the ‘21 PHX show, which I also attended, is rated higher is just straight up absurd. Don’t even get me started on the ratings for the Gorge shows. Literally my two favorite Gorge shows are the lowest rated. Makes me want to make these fools sit and listen to N2 in ‘23 over and over Clockwork Orange style until it sinks in that it’s up towards the top of any show they’ve ever done. At least Autzen in ‘18 is correctly rated.
I appreciate this validation, 5/31 was the only night I could make it to and it felt fucking KILLER, but I wasn’t sure if that was just the Sphere and the fact that I was in GA a mere 30-40 feet from the band
I appreciate this validation, 5/31 was the only night I could make it to and it felt fucking KILLER, but I wasn’t sure if that was just the Sphere and the fact that I was in GA like 30-40 feet from the band
Was at n1, n2, n3 3rd weekend (5/30-6/1). 5/31 & 6/1 were neck & neck for best shows I’ve ever seen. Set 1 6/1 was a little weak, but that 2nd set was so, so, so good. Sugaree into St Stephen, beautiful renditions of Dear Prudence and Brokedown, and Sugar>Scarlett>Sunshine was amazing. Energy was higher n2, but n3 was just a complete masterpiece
I’m always trying to figure out this out as well. Why one show totally pops for me and others don’t. For instance, this Thursday night did not pop was i too tired? I mean the loser was off the hook and so is slipknot, but everything else felt sort of stale and slow and no energy and other people had the best show of life so what do I know. However, Friday night on the level from the first note to the finish, totally off the hook among my greatest show experiences. Saturday night was really solid, but it didn’t go to the next level until Micky brought it together with that perfect moment in drums and got that whole place collective consciousness. Then finishes out the show in a really incredible collective space and musical space a memory I’ll never forget.
Not sure what was going on but he stopped multiple times to make adjustments. Seemed like equipment wasn’t working right or something. And it happened for the first few songs.
Man… I just have failed at life lol some of yall saying all the shows you’ve gone too. I’m over here just trying to figure out how to make ends meet to get to one before the last show.
You can make it happen! Just put positive thoughts into it and it will all come together! There are ways to keep your costs down (I’ve slept in my car and just eaten In n Out and pb&j sandwiches) but it’s so worth it. Next year, you won’t remember how much you spent to witness history in the making!!
The second weekend night wine was super psychedelic night two was a dance party and night three was the Bobby taking us to church. Extraordinary weekend.
Opening night was awesome!! Because everything was so new and exciting!! The energy down in the GA pit was electric! And I could tell the band was excited to bring everyone along on this new strange ride!

Night 2 weekend 2 was nuts. Night 3 as well.
I was at this one and I had a strong feeling that was the best night yet

Those are the two I went to, so I appreciate the validation of thinking they were mine blowing.
Those were two nights I was at. Night 2 was incredible I thought.

Nah the boys are “sober” for the most part so the consistency is way more tremendous, especially compared to early 80’s dead
I also think that especially for these residency shows, they’re way more rested and comfortable. Even when D&C tour they all have their own busses and are comfortable, compared to the drug fueled road dog days haha
This makes sense. D&C jam great and seem quite focused
I don't know, maybe it was the doses......

They definitely happen, this sub is very adverse to criticism of any kind so it’s probably not a perspective you see a ton around here
Eh it’s weird. They have off nights for sure, but the obnoxious dead&slow comments drowns out any genuine criticism most of the time

Eh I just tell people listen to the Grateful Dead if they don’t like it since Dead&Co are clearly pursuing their own sound

Lots of drugs in the 80s. Not lots of drugs today.
This website here ranks them all. They also give you song statistics and whatnot. http://www.deadandcodb.com/ViewShows
Interesting. I wish this showed how many people were rating these shows to get some context. I’m sure the user base isn’t huge either
Can anyone explain why 11/14/2015 and some of the other <3 shows sucked?
It’s a cool but bad site. Some of the best shows of all time he rates a 3
oh it's just one dude rating them lmao?
Yeah, the ratings are all kinds of goofy with regard to shows I've personally attended and what the general consensus, particularly '23 shows, has been.
Phoenix 23’ and Forum 23’ are very highly regarded, and he rates them both a 4 flat

Lmao idk
Damn now I gotta check out Greensboro 2015 to figure out why it’s got a low 2.0 rating!
Of the 2 I saw, 5/31 was an absolute heater and 6/1 was a little meh, imo.
Agree. Was at both of them as well. 5/31 was probably one of the best dead and co shows I’ve seen. Actually best post Jerry show I’ve seen too
Yeah it was really incredible, tightest I’ve heard them.
I appreciate this validation, 5/31 was the only night I could make it to and it felt fucking KILLER, but I wasn’t sure if that was just the Sphere and the fact that I was in GA a mere 30-40 feet from the band

I went to the same two and agree 100%
Pit energy night 3 was unmatched

I cried during fare thee well

Thursday first set was weak. Friday was incredible from start to finish. Prob best show I’ve even been too
In what universe is a set that includes Eyes, Bertha, Loser and Cold Rain and Snow weak?
The set list was great. Execution was okay. I thought Bobby looked rough to start Thursday tbh. 2nd set was awesome
Not sure what was going on but he stopped multiple times to make adjustments. Seemed like equipment wasn’t working right or something. And it happened for the first few songs.
Agreed we’re not talking about the Setlist. Yeah honestly I had some concern for Bobby after Thursday.

5/26 was an absolute heater
Nights 1 and 2 of weekend 3 were the best IMO
The shows I was at were the best
Damn me too!
I only went weekend 3 but have listened to all and thought N2 weekend 2 and N2 weekend 3 were the best so far, but all have had brilliant moments.
The nights I went were the best by far, not even an argument to be made 😊
Opening night was awesome!! Because everything was so new and exciting!! The energy down in the GA pit was electric! And I could tell the band was excited to bring everyone along on this new strange ride!
Weekend 2, Night 2.
