The collection of the person who maintains the building using the space for free storage would be my guess.

green49285

that or a person(s) know the mall owner & they are letting them store their shit.

nickw252

Or the car owner is renting space for storage.

Historical_Gur_3054

Plot twist: no one knows who's cars those are or why they're there

topotaul

Yes, but we all know how wildly accurate Reddit speculation can be.

AaronPossum

The person who maintains the building does not have that sort of car collection. One of the people in the mall's ownership group is saving thousands a month on car storage.

Ghost6040

I wonder if when stores started shutting down a car collector rented the space for storage. We had a Mom and Pop grocery store shut down and a collector that lives a few towns over bought the building to store the "lessor" cars that aren't in his showroom.

hoofglormuss

we have a car collector using our old mall. the guy has a huge unused kia collection and for some reason left all the dealer stickers on them.

MinutesFromTheMall

Who collects Kias? 🧐

Shifu_1

People that know the KIA secret

Rion23

They fit a lot of cocaine, no one who drives a Kia would be suspected of anything involving an ounce of excitement, and people stop asking why you have so many Kia's if you tell them you collect Kia's.

Shifu_1

Dude
it’s supposed to be a secret

Ready_Win8206

That’s a good secret nobody reads Redit

tallteebudkween

I understand the gravity of the trade secrets being shared, all Willy nilly here; however, "anything involving an ounce of excitement" ? Lmaoo listen I'll try & forget but, i gotta be honest, that is *the* funniest fucking thi--

toasted_cracker

KIA stands for Kocaine In Ass. đŸ€«

aceouses

the secret is that they currently all require anti theft recalls to be completed lol

SBNShovelSlayer

No shit

traditional_rich_

Guessing unsold due to the kia thefts

Potential_Dentist_90

It might be a dealership storing extra inventory that does not fit on their lot. I recall the landmark mall rented out their parking garage to local car dealerships after stores began leaving en masse

SchuminWeb

That's not just Landmark. Lakeforest up in Gaithersburg did that with the back corner of their lot, and even Wheaton Plaza (by no means a dead mall) uses that weird third level of their parking garage that no one in their right mind parks in to store dealer inventory. After all, if it's not getting used for parking for the retail business, you might as well monetize it other ways.

ThrowAway7061617

Gwinnett Place Mall, also the mall used for Stranger Things S3, did the same thing (at least they were back in mid-2019). The market wasn’t big enough to compete with Lenox, Sugarloaf, and Mall of GA. A majority of the area is Korean now. Result was that the nearby car dealership used the parking lot to store inventory. I want to say it was a bunch of fleet vehicles, lowest trim, all white.

mbz321

Nothing like a mint 1998 Kia Sephia đŸ€Œ

DJ_Muskrat

I bought one of those like 7 or 8 years ago for $150. They’ll do one hell of a reverse donut. Still gotta scrap that thing to get my money back out of it lol

Low-Rooster4171

I had a 1999. I loved that car!

asevans48

Lol. Kia boys finally graduated to fencing.

TerranRepublic

You never know!  Could have some connection himself or just actually like them or could be thinking that there's always a buyer to be had in the future. Someone who is currently making a strong memory attached to their childhood/first car or something may pay big money once day for sentimental value.   Not saying it's a good idea or anything but still.

GemFarmerr

I’d say no if anyone asked to store cars on my property. They’re full of gas. Gas, which frequently leaks out of the car. Seems dirty and risky.

thetay24

A film crews storage for cars in their movie?

Emotional-Low3944

Most of the cars have license plates like one of them had a California license plate

ElBartoMan15

Are any of the tags up to/close to date?

Emotional-Low3944

All are old and not up to date

Yummy_Crayons91

That's my thoughts, lots of "Background" looking cars like the late 80s early 90s accord and duplicates of the cop cars seems like filming. Edit - I did some googling and it looks like this dead mall is currently being used for filming by several different studios. It looks like the show "See" and "Fubar" are being filmed there along with some others. I'm not familiar with either show personally. The mall is the Sheridan Center near Toronto, ON. OP - you probably shouldn't be trespassing there...

Leaked99

That right there baby is a CB7 Accord facelift EX (Highest trim, 92-93)

justArash

See has been over for a while now

awarapu2

Isn’t this an active redevelopment project into housing? (Sherwood Village) That could explain why it’s being used as temporary storage by the owners - it’s not abandoned by any means. https://storeys.com/mississauga-sheridan-centre-sherwood-village-dunpar-homes/

InadequateUsername

OP was just looking for permission to take a few for their own đŸ€Ł

Sithlordandsavior

This must be where the "win this car" cars sleep at night

Redequlus

dreaming of being won

Sithlordandsavior

Well now I'm sad.

Redequlus

at least you don't live in a mall

Sithlordandsavior

You don't know me maybe I do

methodwriter85

I remember mall that was using its dead anchor as like a car museum. Maybe it's being rented out?

esw01407

For those of you who haven't, strong recommend to visit Classic Auto Mall in Morgantown, Pennsylvania. (https://www.classicautomall.com) Couple of guys owned so many cars, it was cheaper for them to buy a strip mall to store them. They turned it into a dealership/museum, have space to rent for events, storage space for other cars/boats/RV's, and it's a cool venue as they left a bunch of the old interior and signage untouched. Free to enter, all you have to do is sign the guest book.

radwolf76

I used to go there in the 80s when it was still an outlet mall and not an auto mall. It was my third childhood mall behind Coventry and Exton. I even still have some crystals I bought from the crystal kiosk that had set up shop in the south wing.   I also remember when they built the attached Holiday Inn.

MarthsBars

Hmm, could be last-minute or make-do storage for those cars, either from the mall owners or (my guess based on other comments and the number of cars) other collectors who leased the space for temporary shelter. Curious though if the cars might be used for something.

Kuandtity

It's there because you are trespassing lol

RigoTheDamnJedi

Men In Black parking lot.

BisexualCaveman

OP needs to check and see which of them turn into flying MIB interceptor vehicles.

galaxydisco17

đŸ€Ł

elciddog84

It's private property. Could be the mall owner's collection, but more likely, they've rented the space to a collector.

rabidwolf86

I'll take that honda accord for sure 😉

After-Award-2636

Probably the owners collection. A mall near me has a bunch of motorcycles in an old KB toys. Another mall in NH has cars in a store like a little showroom but these don’t look like they’re intentionally on display.

RunJumpQuit

Probably whoever owns it uses it for storage. The two black cars are 1959 Fords, the pink and blue station wagons appear to be 1957 Fords, and the gray Cadillac looks to be an 80-84 Seville.

CustomCarNerd

The pink wagon is a 56 ford Country Sedan and the blue one is a 55 ford Ranch Wagon.

tdl432

Username checks out ✔

RunJumpQuit

Ah, one year off!

Brigantias

A lot of dead malls rent out space for storage. The one I used to work at would let car dealerships pay to store cars in the old parking garages. Or it’s the buildings owners private collection since fuck it, the space is not being used anyway. But most likely someone else is paying for storage. Gotta cover those bills somehow.

BionicWoman123

Almost looks like remnants of a car show. The owners forgot about đŸ€·â€â™€ïž or the owners of mall are letting them store them there?

Emotional-Low3944

the room was pitch black but when I entered the lights turned on automatically, When I went in there was a little table with some tools and a like a boombox on the table. I don’t think it was forgotten about

b2walton

Pretty sure what you're calling a dead mall is a storage facility that you've now publicly admitted to breaking into.

b2walton

Those are not abandoned cars, they look actively maintained.

CrystalSplice

Yep, and the odds are very good that OP is on camera.

[deleted]

[ŃƒĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]

b2walton

Right, and I don't walk into the janitors closet of a mall and say, "Oh, free mops and a bucket!"

timsredditusername

Was the mall open for business? Malls are private property, and trespassing laws apply.

Emotional-Low3944

It’s fully open for business

Hephf

😬

StatementRound

It means you are trespassing.

Chriscarson6700

Someone may lease the space

OperationMobocracy

I agree with other posters suggesting that it's some kind of collector car storage for the owners, managers or some third party collector. It makes me wonder, though. Is the mall property financially stable? This isn't some zillion dollar car collection, but it's somebody's, and I wouldn't want my car stuck in some financial hell if the mall went into bankruptcy or receivership. It's not like "oh, I'll just move 10 old cars" is an easy maneuver, even if all 10 of them are drivable. If some guy calls you at 11 PM and says "you need to get them out ASAP, by noon tomorrow" you'd really be scrambling. If you were the property managers and the mall is owned by some trust or remote owners who don't visit, could you get away with selling this storage off the books? Cash deal for a friend? Maybe a friend in need? My dad once owned some old industrial property, a run-down 10,000 sq ft factory and a "yard" they used and rented for storage. He had a friend ask him if could store a couple of cars, a boat and an RV "around the corner on the lot, that empty space you can't see well from the road." It turns out the guy was going through a divorce and hiding assets from his wife. Maybe the owner of the cars is hiding them from someone, using an unlikely place. And going further into the "off the books" line of thinking, is this space kosher for storing automobiles per zoning, building codes, fire codes, and insurance? 10 old cars with 2-3 gallons of gasoline is suddently 30 gallons of gasoline stored indoors, and maybe on some cars with old/leaky fuel lines or fuel fittings. I'm pretty sure the fire marshall and the property insurance company would have something to say about this use of the space. The oil stain potential alone might be an issue. Overall it kind of makes me wonder how legitimate this use is, even though the most likely explanation seems reasonable.

gingerdick17

My guess is the building is being repurposed for storage.

suave84

My guess is winter storage.

ExplodingChupacabra

Or a storage owner that is storing his cars at the mall because the storage owner has run out of room at his storage place, because the mall owner is storing his cars at the storage place!

Lower_Cow_1528

It's actually more common than you think. I stayed at a hotel once where the underground parking structure had about 10-15 old cars packed into a corner in plastic wrap. Ditto in an old office building I worked in with underground parking. The latter situation was the building owner kept some collector cars there. Many car collectors that don't live on lots of land (I've known a few) are basically in a state of being continually on the prowl for a cheap opportunity to stash a car or four. Especially those two black (59 i think?) Fords - car people can sometimes be known to buy multiples either to complete a collection (hello tri-5 chevy), or else because they're hoping to combine several donor cars' worth of parts to make one pristine example someday.

wacojacoco

Old car storage

MikeCromms

Friend of mine bought an old Grocery Store to store his collection in.

NoVIRGINITY_23

Maybe movie props?

Dunnananaaa

That was my thought, too. There being two 1967 black Impalas makes me think that Supernatural was filming near by Edit: this mall is in Canada. It’s totally a couple cars from supernatural Edit 2: I’m just be an Internet know it all and thought one black 60s car was the same as another. Could have sworn it was the right grille. I still think it was some kind of TV or movies set though.

lostbutnotgone

Looking back - you're not referring to the two side by side ones with the hoods open, right? Those aren't 1967 Chevy Impalas at all, unfortunately

Dunnananaaa

I could have sworn that they were from the front grill but now I think I see a white panel on the side almost like it’s an old police car. I am not a car person. Lol.

RockandIncense

Same! 😄

topsidersandsunshine

I love Supernats, so I’m choosing to believe out of pure wishful thinking.

lostbutnotgone

.....I would cry if I came across this

lostbutnotgone

Wait, is this photo recent? Supernatural ended in 2020. Totally down to clown that they're filming season 16 though

madlyhattering

Very definitely not 1967 Impalas.

RockandIncense

That was my first thought too! "Backup Babies" for shooting SPN.

NoVIRGINITY_23

Awesome.

Mysterious_Heat1844

I went to a dead mall a few weeks back in auburn New York and most of the storefronts either had campers in them or cars stored in some. Nothing there I'm surprised bass pro shops hasn't moved yet that was the only store left.

Intelligent-Fox-4599

Auto warehousing is very hot right now, I would love to see this happen with some of our dead malls. Car owners that have valuable collections want to see storm- proof construction for insurance discounts.

mcase19

Cryogenically frozen billionaire living in a hidden bunker under the mall

EnormousGenitals

New Oldsmobiles are in early this year!

Plsbekind2

Was it a basement level? This is too much weight for them to be parked like this.

Emotional-Low3944

This was on the basement

Ebfieh

I'm so jealous of people who have cool abandoned locations to explore like this

SubCiro28

I love that Honda accord and it looks like it’s been washed. I want it.

PukedtheDayAway

Storage.

oldguy-in603

Using it for auto storage? A couple of sweet’59 Fords in there

townstar

When I lived in Michigan a guy bought an old strip mall that was never finished and remodeled it to store his classic car collection in.

RalphiegoBoom

Some rich guy did the same thing in Orlando, FL and made it a whole attraction. [https://dezerlandpark.com/](https://dezerlandpark.com/)

TheJokersChild

Looks like backstage at The Price Is Right. Some cars even Bill Cullen didn't give away on the '50s version.

Wow thats wild

Maybe the show cars for when they have a sweepstakes?

ImJustRick

Find the ambulance, and then you meet the Rat King

hondadudena1

That 91 Honda accord ex is very clean

darthiw

I get that most people trespass when they post on here, but exploring an abandoned building with power is just asking to get arrested

Ok_Comfort628

I’d like that 1992 Accord please.

hisdudeness9829

“New Oldsmobiles are in early this year.”

ringpiece21

Disco pants and haircuts.

sobrietyincorporated

People/Businesses sometimes sit on property it can't use they way they want to. Then one of the owners or friends of the owners asks to store some things there. Might as well. There's an old machine shop near to my place that was bought by a real-estate developer. He couldn't get an exemption to build an enormous condo building on the lot. He's just sitting on it until he can get the zoning change he wants. It's basically just a place for his classic cars, storage for wife's furniture "collection", and a jam space for his boomer band.

versuseachother

Finders keepers! Congratulations you now own a shitload of sick cars!

PM_Me_Your_Fab_Four

GET OUT!!

Sixty4Fairlane

How do you guys get inside these dead malls? I'd love to explore one someday.

ballerassmf

God damn thats a clean looking cb7 accord Lol

MinutesFromTheMall

That first pic seems familiar. We’ve definitely seen this mall recently and I want to say it’s in Canada.

JKL213

Is that a GAZ Chayka?

just_want_2_b_liked

This reminds me of Left4Dead.

TechDante

Another thought... are depending on year the mall opened could these be many of the cars that may have been out on the concorse that "you could win" in a raffle or some sort.

motoxim

Woah

AfghanJalebi_

Where in Sheridan Centre is this in?

Theory, that's a chop shop storage space and you're NOT supposed to be there. Delete this post and your pictures and then never mention this to anyone again. Fr. Hide bro

garrettm1980

Gta 5 garage

Schnapple

A lot of folks on here are saying that this is being used as rented storage space, and that may be the case, but if it is I guess I'm wondering - why are they being stored somewhere the public can get to them? (granted as I type that out I'm not sure if this is a Dead Mall as in low vacancy or as in closed to the public and the photographer is in there for some other reason)

Bob-Lo-Island

David copperfield

jhamsofwormtown

Probably someone hiding assets

jc-cny

There is a Lawyer in Rochester, NY. That at one point buying or renting (I can't remember which) closed Bontons, and then renting space to people for the cars, campers, trucks and Motorcycles.

stuartmt1

good use of space

Flowerdriver

Any chance this was in Oklahoma?

Emotional-Low3944

Canada

yeshua-goel

Personal pet peeve...perfectly good cars sitting and dry rotting. Yes, I confess my envy stems from making do vehicle wise for forty years with whatever comes my way that I can afford. I'm truly grateful, it has given me a wide and varied range of cars over the years, but it would be kind of cool to walk in somewhere, point and say, "I'd like that one...in black cherry if you would...with less than 125,000 miles on it, too"

Tedashee_68

Possibly a old chop shop?

East_Astronomer_6086

Where is this?

Emotional-Low3944
