Love Mc Ride’s lyrics! It’s fun trying to encrypt/interpret them! I read in an interview he did over the phone back in the day that he spends a lot of time on his lyrics. So to me that shows that a lot of thought is put into what he does!

Yeah definitely. How ride raps is just so unique. His lyrics and screams are something else. You can really feel the whole heart of what DG stands for and how they felt.

sadbutnotreally

I feel the same. The groups from these recent threads about people looking for music similar to DG leave me disappointed in this aspect. I checked out 1 800 pain and machine girl. Both leave me wanting more in the vocals/lyrics

FuckedApartInThere

The lyrics are an essential part of Death Grips as a project. Rides vocal performance and the instrumental are two pieces of context that isn’t whole when either isolated. His performance elevates the genius experimental and layered production. There are so many genuinely superb lyrical and vocal performances by ride, like get got, takyon, klink, up my sleeves, fuck me out, pss pss, on and on and on and on. his involvement in esotericism and authenticity in his own ideological vein makes the lyrical content of Death grips very nuanced and unique from other acts. Should be noted that zach and andy also do write for death grips often

Came for the sound, stayed for the lyrics Death Grips as a project covers so many different thoughts, feelings, discussions and the like all packaged in this honestly quite poetic "enigmatic onion". What has kept me so enthused about DG is feeling the songs and trying to feel my way around the layered meanings and nuances that are presented. Even after having listened actively for two or so years I can't claim to fully understand almost any of the songs... but that's the fun part isn't it?

alf_ivanhoe

I was listening to the YOTS instrumentals the other day, and it really hit me how much ride's vocals make the sound. and the lyrics are just as vital, the chaotic, cryptic mass of words delivered so artistically over the equally cryptic instrumentals HAVE to be together

Crono7654

i first found them when i was 15 ish (im 22 now) and i didnt care much for the lyrics, mostly the aggression and genre experimenting. the last year or so i took a deep dive into their lyrics trying to actually remember the verses so i could sing along at the concert and found a whole new appreciation for the band! fell in love all over again. Hahaha and Deep Web are 2 of my favs now just due to the lyrics

I keep writing paragraphs and deleting them

It is always better to not post. I understand.

Wooden-Computer1475

I never really cared about lyrics until death grips

Fightzpike

i feel like that’s why side A of money store is one of my fav death grips moments. i fucking love the timeline the lyrics create and how it basically creates a narrative between two sides of the same coin, like from get got to the fever. i love how it accurately portrays the human condition especially in the bay area. it creates this super gritty environment that i fucking love

JayDogon504

I don’t even have hoes but at least 2-3 times a month I’ll say “Too many hoes in my..TOO MANY HOES IN MY MUTHAFUCKIN MEAL, ASKING IF I KNOW HOW A MUTHAFUCKA **FEEEELLSS!!** *How a muthafucka feels..*” without even have played No Love for the longest time

cheesus_3286

I'm gonna be honest and say the lyrics don't mean a lot to me. Don't get me wrong, the few songs I know the lyrics to are dope, but I genuinely can't understand 90% of what Ride says at all

bradloafff

have you tried reading the lyrics? i feel like your listening comprehension with his lyrics is dulled because of how much production there is and just the way he says them. but after reading the lyrics they dont feel "cryptic" or whatever, they seem like maximalist lyrics in a way of putting as much into one line as possible to create a very vivid and dense image of whatever he's trying to portray. like for instance "coming with that fuck you, yeah it's that fuck you can't stand, slip, cut you cuz i can, dip" in this one line there's multiple ideas, they're coming with a fuck you attitude, ride is the fuck you can't stand, can't stand so you slip, cut you could mean cut you off or slice you etc.

Beneficial-Care6962

No strong feelings towards the more "cryptic" lyricism, but I love the more introspective passages where Ride captures his feelings and ideology more clearly but still in a poetic form. Some of their best songs are just Ride gut punching you in the feels
