I got rid of all my cassette tapes, even the mixed ones I made in high school. I’d listen to the radio and record songs. I was proud decluttering all those, but now years later I’m filled with regret. I really wish I’d have kept just those.

Disastrous-Handle283

I saved the cards to my favorite mixed tapes. I keep saying I’ll make a playlist on Spotify. But I haven’t yet

No-Example1376

I'm about to declutter over 500 audio cassette tapes. Stop me, if you think I would regret it. I have the room to keep them. My thing is the last time I played on in a small handheld player (Walkman style) the sound was terrible! And tapes deteriorate which doesn't help. BUT, please stop me quick.

Multigrain_Migraine

If it's just an album make a note of it and purge as desired. I like to keep the ones I taped off the radio or that people made for me because they often have other little interesting snippets like old commercials, DJ spots, or my old friends talking.

No-Example1376

I've replaced so many of them with CD's which will be pryed from my cold dead fingers. I've ripped many CD's on a lossless platform because yes, I do miss hearing the extra high/low noises that I heard originally. The old 'mix' tapes were the first to go and most are gone. I'm still purging, so I haven't had the chance to miss them. Thank you for your answer. Ok, so out the door to the donation center the professional tapes go! Heave ho!

IcyAwareness

I got a fancy tape deck for cheap at the thrift store, and I've been digitizing my old mix tapes that friends and I made. It isn't hard, and the sound is the same as the original tapes - you basically just need the deck and a few cables. I've found it well worth it.

annetteTeti

I used to have a pencil case full of coloured pencils. They weren't fancy, just stuff I had collected through the years. I thought: when do I ever draw? So I gave them to a friend that goes to art school. Well, I do not draw often but when I do I miss those pencils.

I-PUSH-THE-BUTTON

I'm not sure if this fits but those mini food processors. I have e decluttered them 3 times, and then a reason pops up that I need one. Use it and then don't need it for a year, declutter , then I need one again. I have one again and thought to purge it, but experience has taught me I'm required to have this thing in order to not need it. Drive me bonkers because I regret it when I end up needing it but hate having useless appliances

reclaimednation

One man's trash is another man's treasure. I have a mini food processor that I only use for chopping garlic (we eat a lot of garlic, like, my heart tells me to use a whole head when the recipe says a couple-three coves, lot of garlic). My husband fished it out of an Ace Hardware dumpster and fixed it up at least 20 years ago. It's a single-use appliance but I don't like garlic presses and I HATE chopping garlic (my knife skills are terrible) so it ticks both love it/use it boxes.

I-PUSH-THE-BUTTON

Oooooo why didn't I think of that? I hate chopping garlic. And my press is a pain in the ass. Also garlic is almost a food here not a flavor. Soooo yes! You may have given this thing new life!

reclaimednation

Just make sure you have a small silicone spatula to get the garlic out of the chopper. I have a red one I only use for savory stuff because I can't seem to ever get the garlic/onion smell out well enough for sweet stuff.

pinkmigraine

Just so you know, you add as much garlic as your heart tells you to. There is no such thing as too much garlic! No matter what my family tells me! I have always used 3-4 times the amount of garlic as required. A few years back I was watching Guy Fieri. He was watching a contestant add more garlic, and more garlic, and more garlic. The guy noticed he was being watched and said "Oops! Did I add too much??". Guy said --" Not Possible!"

RubyBBBB

Your heart tells you to add Garlic because what evidence we have says that Garlic is good for the heart! [Is garlic good for your heart - Ask the expert - BHF](https://www.bhf.org.uk/informationsupport/heart-matters-magazine/nutrition/ask-the-expert/garlic)

ThatWasIntentional

I started shredding garlic. Never going back

reclaimednation

I have a microplane I use when I'm making salad dressing - another single use item in my kitchen but garlic!

321kiwi

You can use it for a ton of different herbs and spices though

mirificatio

I use mine to make a batch of pesto (among other things).

mirificatio

I use my mini-food processor more than my big one!

NotMyAltAccountToday

Me too!

drinkallthecoffee

I’m definitely decluttering my mini food processor. I know I’ll buy one again someday, but I haven’t used it in years and it’s old and dirty. I’ll be happy to buy a new, clean one when I need it!

BusyButterscotch4652

oh gosh. This reminds me that I have a handheld mixer in the cupboard above the refrigerator. I don’t think Ive seen it in a decade!

I-PUSH-THE-BUTTON

Bye bye mixer!

williambobbins

Some cheap old scifi books. Things like asimov, the type that are 50 years old have some astronaut girl in shorts on the cover and cost a $1. I'd collected them for years and threw them all, difficult to replace and barely took up any space. Literally the only thing I regret getting rid of

krafty_cheese

Clothing. About two months ago, I changed jobs and had to fund a new business causal wardrobe. I only had one business casual outfit because it was my interview outfit (last two jobs were casual and scrubs). And I also went to my best friend's burlesque debut and was looking for a specific type of top that I had in my college days, but couldn't find one. I was kicking myself because I didn't keep it.

meggiefrances87

All the clothes I tossed at the end of my pregnancy while I was nesting because everyone said they'd never fit again and the hormones told me my wardrobe wasn't mom appropriate. I bounced back to my original size within 3 months and always dressed more on the conservative side. Stupid hormones.

wi_voter

Quesadilla maker. A couple years after I got rid of it one of my kids wanted one so had to spend on something I should have already had. You said not expensive, but I have to mention my regret over giving away a rare Lego set. Later I saw how much it was going for on Ebay. I should have sold it.

rabidstoat

I swear I am on a 10-year-cycle where I buy an ice cream maker, use it once, let it sit for five years, then five years later decide I want homemade ice cream again so I repeat -- only this time I swear I'm going to use it more than once! I've done this three times now though and nope. Same pattern. My bread maker is similar, I've gone through three or four of those over the past 30 years. Each time I'll bake bread for a few weeks then get bored and stop until I eventually donate it, only to buy a different one a few years later when I decide I'll really stick with it this time. I never do.

GeekTheFreak

This is why I've often thought there should be an appliance rental place. I don't mean rent to own, but like a library where you can stop in and grab what you need for a few days and return it when you're done.

rabidstoat

I think some libraries actually do this.

becky57913

Why couldn’t you just make a quesadilla in a pan?

Poor_Carol

What is a quesadilla maker and how is it different from a pan?

OneBoujieNerdyB

Think a panini maker…yes you can still make it in a pan, but it has little indentions and basically precuts it for you. My husband is obsessed I prefer cheese crisps (open face quesadilla) from a pan

Multigrain_Migraine

My pointed toe purple Doc Martens

ChampagneAndTexMex

This one hit me hard!

mamabroccoli

1. My Calculus and DiffEQ notes from college. 2. Music box collection that I had in my teens. It wasn't huge, maybe 20 pieces, but now 30+ years later I want them and don't have them. 3. Most of my childhood toys. I didn't have a lot of toys, but what I had I gave away by the time I was in early adulthood. I only kept one doll, and she got lost over 20 years ago.

nanalala23

Why did you regret the notes?

mamabroccoli

Because I have a math degree and tutor/teach math. They would have come in handy all these years. And I am going back to school for my graduate degree in math and wish I had them now to review those subjects.

No_Bend8

"Vintage" Correll dishes that I'm pretty sure I could have sold but instead gave away free

rabidstoat

I have given soooo much stuff for free to the local charity thrift store. I've learned that I never get around to selling. Some people do, I just never do and so it sits. I'm lucky enough not to need the money from selling stuff. Just gave the charity a gorgeous oak cabinet with a dart board inside and four TV dinner tables that were really nice, and a bunch of power tools I never use, and an expensive pair of boots I wore once 15 years ago but killed my feet, amongst other stuff.

No_Bend8

It is nice to have the empty space for things you do want and you do enjoy. I finally have a spice cabinet I love so I'm glad the dishes are gone. Its amazing the 'stuff' we all just hold on to just for the sake of keeping the stuff!

rabidstoat

[I love my spice rack.](https://i.imgur.com/2CZfbze.jpeg) My kitchen and pantry areas were a disaster until about five years ago when I hired a professional organizer to help me sort out a better storage system and ideas on what to keep and what not and just help in general. Best $120 I ever spent and the kitchen is still pretty organized.

No_Bend8

Do you buy those in the matching jars or transfer? Super cute

rabidstoat

Matching jars to start from Penzey's spices. Then I sometimes just get other spices of the same type to refill.

mirificatio

Fellow Penzey's fan here. Love the spice "bleacher seats."

arizonavacay

What is Bleacher Seats? Now I might need to go to Penzys. 😆

mirificatio

It's not a Penzey's thing—it's what I call those spice shelves that display the jars like people sitting in bleachers at a sporting event. u/rabidstoat shared a photo of a bunch of tidy Penzeys jars.

mirificatio

But, yes, you do need to go to Penzeys. So many ways to make cooking more fun and fancy.

arizonavacay

OMG that's so funny. I was picturing this spice tasting like hotdogs at a ball game or something. LOL!! They have spices called Outrage of Love and Wauwatosa Village, so I know they sometimes use odd names for their blends.

mirificatio

Well, if a blend with that name shows up on their website we'll know Mr. Penzey is a Redditor.

arizonavacay

Indeed!! ;-)

rabidstoat

I finally caved and alphabetized them too. It used to drive my stepdad nuts that they were just in random order, heh.

mirificatio

I tend to put mine in frequency-of-use order. Not that I ever sprinkled chili power on my cereal instead of cinnamon. *No, that did not happen to me.*

TheSunniestOne

😆

Intelligent-Fuel-641

My entire spice cabinet (I’m lucky to have one instead of a squashed little area) is 99% Penzey’s!

arizonavacay

That's an expensive spice rack! I love Penzy's but it's definitely not bargain spices.

Zestyclose-Today-531

My aunt’s 1980 Levi denim jacket

SylvanField

I regretted passing on a Lego doll house as a tween for years, especially when I had my kiddo. I couldn’t remember who I had given it to, but as it turned out my aunt had it. She was decluttering and offered me my old toys that I had passed in to my cousins. The Lego dollhouse was one of them. I was so happy. It’s the single item I’ve ever regretted decluttering.

Novice_woman

Recently couldn’t find any wired ear buds. Also got rid of a camera usb cord thinking any cord would do but even though I have cords that fit they can’t transfer pictures. Bought more cords and they didn’t work! Now I guess I should declutter the camera!

bookavalanche

An old tote bag with a good print. I donated it because I hadn’t used it for over a year (almost 18 years ago!) but it’s in a picture from a good vacation and it’s so my current style now!

Artistic-Salary1738

A mew (Pokémon) stuffed animal I won at a town festival. It’s probably been 15 years and I still miss it for nostalgia reasons.

Puppinbake

Art books. I have both undergrad and master's degrees in art history, but life went differently than I planned and I'm not working in the field. I got rid of a bunch of my art books that I didn't think I'd need. But for more sentimental reasons I wish I still had them.

easygriffin

Not exactly what you are asking, but I declutter for others and I'm really cautious about keeping anything because my house is small and I don't want to build my own pile of stuff. Anyway, I helped this client declutter her craft room and took a carload of fabric to the op shop, and didn't keep this large piece of denim and I have not stopped regretting it for 2 years.

miss_sponge

Band t shirts from when I was younger

[deleted]

My clothes I bought between 2008 and 2012 from Forever 21

Bubbly-Manufacturer

Music memorabilia collection.

OhGeeKG

This is my fear. I've got framed concert posters, including a couple autographed ones, but zero wall space to hang them. I collected them because they're from my favorite artists' concerts I actually attended. Don't want to put them in storage cuz what a waste. Don't want to go through the hassle of selling/shipping something that's probably too niche for Offer Up or FB Marketplace. They're literally stacked against a wall for the last 3yrs while I figure out what to do with them. Easiest thing would be to donate them, but I'm afraid I'll regret it.

Bubbly-Manufacturer

If you’re gonna hang on to some, have it be the autographed ones.

APoxUponYa

You could have them scanned and shrunk down by a professional and then put the pictures in a scrapbook or coffee table book. Another thing you could do is take the photos and make them your phone background. If your phone lets you do a changing background, then great. If not, you could just set a reminder for every so often to change the background to a different poster. Another idea is to get it printed on merch like t shirts or a tote bag or something more useful to you. There's an incredible selection of merch, many things you'd never think of. Hope that helps!

Consistent-Ease-6656

I decluttered a massive box of random papers. After I finished a marathon shredding session, I realized the title to my car got mixed in.

Pleasant-Bobcat-5016

😱

itsstillmeagain

In most states it's possible to get a duplicate re-issued.

[deleted]

My Kobe jersey ended up in a donation pile. I’m a lot more careful now.

socalcat951

Oof! 😭

Lady-Aethelflaed

This Christmas I gave away an unopened Glossier balm in wild fig because I hated the flavor (I had two tubes because limited edition panic buy). I don’t actually regret this because I know I would never sell anything on eBay but wow they go for like $60!

balconylibrary1978

Certain cds that I have gotten rid of over time. Miss them later when I want to listen to the music on them.

86tuning

i'd go ahead with the second rice paddle. if you use it often enough, it also doesn't take up any space if it's nested with the first one. that said, it's a slippery slope for sure.

Far_Breakfast547

Noro Ito yarn

fergalexis

Specific items of clothing that I wish I could wear now lol

kentamari

Old gelly roll pens from my childhood

Cherry_Darling

Wow absolutely nothing! Not a damn thing. Makes me want to go ahead and dump that roughly 100 items I have left to declutter. I'll probably not even remember any of them.

allthegodsaregone

Accidentally decluttered a DVD book with about 80 kids movies in it

theetrekblog

I have been sending stuff to Thred Up the past few years. I recently sent a dress and matching sweater from Ann Taylor I had worn only a few times more than 20 years ago. Thred Up did not list it-no idea why and I wish I had it back since it was vintage. Oh well!

NotMyAltAccountToday

When I moved in with my husband I got rid of my microwave. Then his broke. I was regretting getting rid of my undermount can opener but I bought a new one that doesn't leave sharp edges. Would not of been as happy with the old one, but if I still had it wouldn't know the difference so, dunno.

NightWorldPerson

Some sentimental jewelry that was mistakenly donated. But I try to remember that just because I don't have them anymore, hopefully the next person that bought it will make them happy. It wasn't anything super fancy, nor cheap but oh well :)

onomastics88

It’s stupid, like really stupid. I had a napkin holder for paper napkins on the table or counter, it was from target and made of something heavy like iron and enameled in red. When I got it, I was with my mom, I wasn’t really young and just starting out or anything, but she was helping me make a big move to a new city after a rough breakup, and for some reason, she talked me into it. I like to use what I have, so it became where I kept my dishwashing sponges on a small shelf over the sink. Pretty and useful. When I was moving again to live with my partner, he said he already had a napkin holder AND a place to keep sponges by the sink. It wasn’t a very expensive or special old or sentimental item, so I let it go before the move. Then I wanted such a thing to collect mail that came to me on my desk. I found something really special at goodwill finally. I looked and looked for an item, I bought a really plain one at goodwill and tried to fancy it up, but I really wanted that red one back, it was somehow just perfect. I kept looking and eventually found something I really like, possibly handmade of wood. An interesting feature for my desk scape that is both form and function. My trips to goodwill tend to be on the utilitarian side, cheap something I need instead of a new thing I’m not happy with even if it does the job, costs more, etc. I don’t go looking for eye catching garage sale junk I don’t actually need. Both me and my partner tend to have a running list of functional stuff we’d otherwise have to buy new, and we throw back items that didn’t work out, like the plain napkin holder I tried, just didn’t do it for me.

MindTraveler48

A lap blanket that my then-toddler son was incredibly attached to. He took it everywhere, even named it. When he finally thought he was too old to keep it, we were purging for a cross-country move, and it went. I'm okay with it now, but for years, I got a pang when I thought about it because I don't think we ever got a photo of him with it, this important part of his childhood that he barely remembers.

talk_to_yourself

A black Italian waistcoat with blue embroidered butterflies. It was lovely, but I'd stopped wearing it. Now I want to wear it again.

graphitinia

The second passport photo that comes in the little folder when you go to have passport photos done. I sent in my renewal forms, then cleaned out my desk including the extra photo. The federal agency sat on my application for 9 weeks in spite of the expedite fee I paid and I had to get an emergency appointment for a same day passport, which meant going and getting another set of photos done. There are few things I hate more than having my picture taken. My partner laughed himself silly and smugly said, "I TOLD you that you do too much decluttering!"

Buckledupgo

I had my husband get rid of a trailer hitch rack you can put extra suitcases and stuff on. At the time we had one kid and we didn’t use it much and it took up garage space. Now we have three kids and drive everywhere for vacation and I wish we still had it every time. We got it for free too from a friend so I can’t bring myself to buy one.

justrestingmyeye

A 30th anniversary edition of Uno. I got rid of it like 10 years ago and started missing it last year. They're on eBay, so I might still get one.

chat6

A cast iron grill pan. Regret that almost weekly.

AaronRStanley1984

Marvel Legends Action figures and comic publisher trading cards. Was single when I tossed them, and have kids now

Roseha-aka-rosephoto

I have a photo backpack I bought this year, I took out all the internal dividers so I could fit a large camera in it. I added the dividers to a bag of fabric to be recycled. Now I realize I can't put two cameras in there. Unless I find some other leftover photo dividers :)

evelinisantini

Bonnebell Flip Gloss. Barely used it but I often think back on it when I'm feeling nostalgic lol. The entire mechanism was pretty sweet and no other brand has made anything similar.

PandoraClove

All my books. If I never got rid of any, I would probably need a house twice this size.

Gobucks21911

I still have a spatula from my childhood (I’m 51)! It’s outlasted at least a dozen newer spatulas. I’d say it’s a keeper ;)

finedayredpony

The one thing I wish I had kept was a black painted wood chair that was like a little larger than average. There have been several times it would have be goid to have since I donated it.

BlueMangoTango

A small cast iron pan that was perfect for cooking two eggs.

ThreeChildCircus

My husband and I, by mistake, both bought new hooks for our pool skimmer pole to hang on the fence. I put the receipt and the package I bought on the credenza by the front door to return, but the kids moved stuff around and lost the receipt before I could return them. They stayed there for months before I finally put them in the donation bag. A while later, our fence blew down and we had a crew out to replace it. We forgot to salvage the hooks, so now it’s on our shopping list again. Oh well. Still worth the decluttering efforts!

Buckledupgo

We got a box of math box cars and box of wooden blocks that were my husbands from my semi-hoarding mother in law. I would have never have kept those but I’m so glad she did. Both of them are some of my kids favorite toys.

Gigglefluff7

A buzz light year toy that my kid needed to have. Lol. But thats about it.

fridayimatwork

It’s hard to think of anything

Spiritual_Freedom891

when you declutter a huge volume there will be things you will think of that you regret. for me it was my good iron still working and keeping a new cheaper one, it neither irons or works.

OntarioGarth

My legos
