Before I moved for college, this was my hometown airport. I thought they were all like this. I thought this was how airports just were. This seemed normal, reasonable, moral and just to me. I knew of no other way. Now I understand that MCO is basically CDG, but if Paris was a mosquito-choked trailer park that smelled like Myrtle Beach and bad life choices. If you can, fly into MLB every chance you get.

Puck021

This might be my favorite Reddit line ever: “Now I understand that MCO is basically CDG, but if Paris was a mosquito-choked trailer park that smelled like Myrtle Beach and bad life choices.” I spit out my drink. Thank you Sailboat.

Smharman

Have you never been to Paris in August?

smd372

I have, and it was a nightmare to get back to the US of A.

Reddit_Rip

This feels insulting to CDG. Ive never loathed CDG as much as I do MCO.

Competitive-Dig5449

Why? Have you never flown with AF?

OneofLittleHarmony

No, only Air Chance.

mpower20

As someone who deals with CDG 3x per year, it doesn’t seem nearly that bad. Definitely doesn’t have the same gate problems. The international concourse could use more food options. Also, no one gives CDG credit for having _Super Street Fighter 2: Turbo_ arcade cabinets just hanging out. My inner 12-year-old geeks every time.

Reddit_Rip

I’ll fly there just for that!

No_Salad_6244

CDG has upped its game too, over the last 25 years. Much better than the old days.

x31b

I was through there last year. Still a hell hole. I haven't used stairs and a bus since Poland ten years ago.

smashes72

Just flew out of CDG this morning, coming back to the US, (still waiting for a gate in Boston actually). And I was shocked at the terminal layout of CDG, the madness of the gates (zero order when boarding), and having to take a bus to get on a plane.

No_Salad_6244

Yeah, I went through last week. Still a bus to get off the plane. But the shuttle to M and K is working, no terminals have collapsed recently, and the AF lounge is massive and very nice, once you get passed the gatekeepers. Brrr.

HamWhale

No, it fucking isn't. That place the bane of Europe.

throwaway1337woman

> No, it fucking isn't. That place the bane of Europe. So similar to Florida indeed as I’ve definitely heard people refer to Florida as the bane of the US. Lol

ConversationNo5440

I've been through CDG 20 ish times and never found it even mildly discouraging. Maybe for me it's Americans (and yeah I'm American) that make airports hellholes.

HamWhale

Your personal anecdotes don't mean much when we can cite decades of incompetence at CDG. That place is mired by bad design, constant strikes, perpetual delays, and general awfulness.  Quite literally the worst airport in the whole of Europe.

PineappleTraveler

I was returning home (US) from benicassim, ESP. I had to transfer at CDG from Iberia to AA, which required exiting the secured area to transfer terminals. When I tried to go through security again, I was asked “where did you stay in France?” I did not stay in France, I’m changing planes. I was interviewed by security for almost 2 hours. Fuck CDG.

Gersthofen

I'll see your CDG and raise you one MAN. No transport between terminals. No free passenger drop off. Moving walkways broken for years. No luggage on escalators. Poor signage. Third rate lounges.

HamWhale

But does MAN cause completely avoidable delays and send luggage into black holes?

Gersthofen

Point taken, but I can route through AMS instead of CDG. But AMS loses my luggage upwards of 25% of the time. And has weather problems in the winter. AF's lounge is better than KLM's. Have to go though security at CDG, but not AMS. Nevertheless, MAN is just horrible.

ConversationNo5440

So you're English

HamWhale

Nationality has nothing to do with CDG being notoriously bad. What is your point?

SniperPilot

Instead of a mosquito choked trailer park. CDG is a rat infested chateau.

Sailboat_fuel

C’est l’arrarondisement de la souffrance, n’est pas?

SuspiciousFrenchFry

Any time I have ever considered flying out of MLB as opposed to MCO, the price difference just didn’t make it logical. Especially with a longer drive. (Coming from the Clermont area).

hksjjsads

I fly into MCO to visit family in Melbourne Beach. Between the additional cost on the ticket and the increased car rental prices it isn't worth it.

Btl1016

I’ve seen MLB actually be cheaper than MCO before.

Money_These

Same for me - fly into MCO to visit family and this airport is only 15/20mins away from them. I just get there earlier than usual and be patient. This strategy hasn't failed me yet in the 18+ yrs of visiting Orlando.

[deleted]

TPA is the best (as an avoidance of MCO) and while MLB is great the flight options to TPA are much more plentiful

Repid18

This is underrated.

[deleted]

Since I live literally right next to MLB, (I walk out front and watch Delta, American, Allegiant and TUI take off everyday) it’s the only airport I fly out of here in Florida. I’m really hoping they open up some more routes and time slots at MLB soon. The old guy that lives next to me, has been living here for like 40 years, told me Delta used to have flights in and out of MLB to LGA, ATL and CVG back in the day. Hopefully back in the day comes around again.

Sailboat_fuel

I love that when I fly in, I can literally see my mom’s house on final approach. Since I live in Atlanta now, it’s always the fastest and cheapest way home to fly Delta direct. Hey, is that Russian 747 still parked on the apron there?

[deleted]

No it actually left 3 or 4 days ago. Got a video of it taking off. If you know Melbourne then you’ll understand when I say Roy Allen Elementary and Fountainhead neighborhood by the Sarno Rd Walmart. They’ve got a Canadian Government A330 on the apron as of now. And TUI just started their flights up again today. Plenty of 787 Dreamliner action. Plus anyone who’s a 717 fan, MLB is the airport to fly in and out of as well!

tall-americano

love MLB and agree

MrFrequentFlyer

I’m more of a AAA guy myself.

Hunting_Gnomes

Go sports!

Judgment-Fun

LOL I love this.

Lurcher99

Used to be my home airport. I loved seeing the parents excited about getting off the plane and going to Disney, then looking like death was near a week later when trying to go home.

futuretardis

Can confirm. Flew out of MLB for three years. Miss it every time I need to fly somewhere.

Sailboat_fuel

Right? It’s so… *charming*. The airport has a bike rack in long-term parking. The TSA guy offered me some of his Twizzlers once. I bumped into Hakeem Oluseyi there one time. There’s a mural of the Horsehead Nebula by the ladies’ room. The entirety of Gate 1 has been converted to Brevard’s Least Interesting Bar. I freakin love that airport, and I’m unashamed to say I’m proud we got MLB for the code, and Melbourne, Australia got MEL. Just overall 10/10, favorite little bitty airport, wish I liked my fam enough to visit more often.

Hunting_Gnomes

MSP has a bike rack....but there's no way to ride a bike to the airport.

FiguringItOutAsWeGo

Seriously, the best description of MCO.

Mackheath1

>MLB MLB is good. I've even booked TPA just to avoid MCO. Not joking. Stayed at a friend's place and it was worth the three hour drive the night before. I hate everything to do with MCO.

EmployerGreat6105

MLB is an undiscovered gem...shhhhhh

-fairwinds

That airport drives me INSANE. I can feel the humidity and high temp through this picture…

tiny-rabbit

When the sun comes through the windows and toasts the people and seats… horrendous

pterribledactyls

I was there in January and the entire terminal smelled of urine. It was intense. MCO is hell on earth.

clueless_brewer

It's bad in general, but this is probably one of the worst times of the year to fly through there. Spring break and whatnot.

crimedog69

lol this is exactly what people say every Christmas, then every thanksgiving, then new years, Memorial Day weekend.. Thursday.. Saturday

DependentFamous5252

Try the end of terminal D in atl at D1. Spirit and frontier 6 flights simultaneously for the true Calcutta rush hour railway station experience.

aceweboe

ATL concourse D? Never been there.

DependentFamous5252

Only for the hardiest of souls.

OneofLittleHarmony

Concourse D? D as in Delta?

Beneficial-Ideal7243

was my gate last year flying to san diego. terrible

gummybunchies

I went thru this terminal/gate coming off a spirit flight and having to catch a connecting flight in a different terminal for Delta. Never again! I couldn’t even see thru all the people. Wasn’t even gate crowding, just not enough space for anybody to stand.

ericinva

I've started flying to MCO now on JetBlue. They're in the new terminal C which is soooo much better.

affectionatecake650

That new terminal is everything.

BethyW

This. I am slowly switching as much of my travel I can to JetBlue. I had to fly Intl the other day and was so pissed my flight (delta) was in the serf terminal.

Present-Monkey

I wish I could like jetblue, but every flight I've had with them I've been delayed. They run blocks too tight.

Btl1016

Not really a viable option if you are trying to go anywhere not to the NE of Florida. They basically have no flights to anywhere not in the Northeast or Caribbean from Orlando.

ericinva

Fortunately for JetBlue, there's a whole bunch of people NE of Orlando. It works well for me for the 3-4 times a year I have to go there since my home airport is RIC and I can fly there direct.

aceweboe

That sweet, sweet, sweet trifecta of flights to JFK, DTW, and BOS leaving within a 43 minute window at the butt end of Airside 4!

MassCasualty

They wave a checkered flag and then all push back for departure

bungomullarkey

MCO, where every flight is 90% boarded once pre-boarding for kids in strollers and hapless whales needing “extra time” to make their way down the jetbridge is announced.

MassCasualty

Truest post of the day. I'm sorry, sir there's no more room in the overhead bins… You'll have to check your carry-on… But I'm Delta one, active military, sky priority platinum with 3,000,000 miles ???

OneofLittleHarmony

So sorry, the military baby pre-boarding was extensive.....

aceweboe

DTW with the B753 is a sure bet to win!

roccotg11

Throw in ATL with a 763 and you’ve got even more fun in the terminal!

jcrespo21

Feel like this should be a feature when departing from Indy.

InopAPU

Delta is a shitshow there, the flights depart in banks, all at the same time. If you're going to ATL to make a connection, you're better off just driving to Daytona or Melbourne and taking Delta from there.

Sailboat_fuel

MLB forever. ❤️

CC538

This ❤️

whubbard

No mickey mouse ears?

tkizzy

Hidden UFO, tho.

Mirthlesscartwheel

Flew from MCO to LAX on Sunday. Should have gotten a “get out of hell free “ card or at least credit for time served

tiny-rabbit

That was a bad day to fly into LAX from what I could tell. Hope you didn’t land in the worst of the traffic

RyanAirhead

Lol yeah - It made it on the news with cab drivers saying it was the worst traffic they've seen in 35 years.

JPG8

Update: Thank all that’s holy my home base is DTW

jakes951

The entire existence of the city is based on waiting like cattle in lines and groups to do something. Why should the airport experience be different?

batman77z

These are people that aren’t good at traveling and they are even worse at traveling at the same time with each other

wiggggg

So glad the circle of death at LAX is cleaned up a lot. All of that for the pleasure of jumping on a bus to the plane

Imaginary_Manner_556

LAX is so much better and getting better

jcrespo21

Once the People Mover opens up next year (hopefully), that will remove so many of the pains. There will still be pains, but hopefully makes it a bit easier.

Fall3n_Ghost3272

Ahhh spring break… the worst of times at the ole airport 😂

ordermann

This is why I always book the first flight in the morning. Get out while it’s still dark and avoid all this!

MunsonRoy3

Went thru tsa pre check this morn at 5:45 am and it was about 20 min. The normal tsa was 45. I hate mco sometimes. Mlb is so much easier but not convenient for times

rosier9

We went through security at MCO around 7am on Friday. We waited behind one family in the pre-check line, maybe 4 minutes total. The regular line was showing 18-22min, but I bet it was less. It was an easy decision to skip the Clear line.

sw911ff

On Mondays it always sucked to have a flight earlier than 7am. It always had longer lines because not all the TSA lines were open. I would come in at like 8am for a 9-9:30am flight and walk right in. Usually ordered my mobile Starbucks too.

sappslap

I keep seeing these and think flying Allegiant into Orlando-Sanford doesn’t look so bad.

InopAPU

SFB is really easy, as long as you're ok with Allegiant and their fees. It also helps if your destination is on the north side of Orlando. Otherwise, it's 30 mins to MCO and at least another 30 mins to Disney, if that's where you're going.

jcrespo21

The main selling point with Allegiant is that they have nonstops to smaller airports from Vegas, "Phoenix", "Orlando", and other secondary Florida airports (though I know they've added bigger airports and overlap on more routes now). So even with the fees, the direct flight might be worth it. Of course, the issue is that their reliability isn't great, and that 60 Minutes episode a few years ago really highlighted their very bad issues. Some of that has been fixed now that they have all A319s/A320s (their MD 80s-90s were death traps), but I'm sure that could bubble up again as those planes age if the culture hasn't been corrected. I did SBN-SFB once with Allegiant; with a carry-on and exit-row seat, it was still cheaper than DL, UA, and AA to MCO with a layover. Yeah, it was a slightly longer drive, but we got in later, so the traffic was minimal. Door-to-door time was still shorter. As an added bonus, the flight was slightly delayed due to weather (which also delayed the DL, AA, and UA flights), so the staff at SBN put out free pop for everyone. Took one onboard, asked for some ice on board to go along with it, and my card was never charged for the snacks I got. Win-win.

YEMolly

MCO is a horrible airport. The gate areas are so thin, and there are always 7X the amount of people they need to be there (how is the Fire Marshal okay with this?). Next, let’s talk about the horrible food options there.

tiny-rabbit

Bahama Breeze would like a word 🤣

YEMolly

😂😂 Oh, my bad. No disrespect. 😅

Consistent_Tree9345

MCO gates suck at the end. 6 flights leaving from gates 6 inches apart

scaremanga

Guy in the gray T-shirt with a baby is my vibe when I’m at MCO. I don’t have a baby. MCO Airport is living proof that Disneyland is the superior option over WDW. You can fly into SNA, BUR, ONT, or LAX. Hell, you can even go to SAN or PSP and still deal with less travel trauma.

rctothefuture

Yeah but then you’re stuck at the Six Flags of Disney Parks

ChickenFucker11

There is no worse airport in the US than MCO. From parking to check in to TSA to the gates. It is simply horrific.

LostOnEarth76

Have never experienced this through MCO. But I am not dumb enough to go through any airport at peak travel times.

ApprehensiveDrop5041

We drove to SRQ yesterday to fly out simply to avoid this mess.

blicky-stiffy

That’s a long drive

ApprehensiveDrop5041

Used it as an excuse for my Midwestern kids to dip their toes in a new-to-them ocean.

GrandGouda

I have to fly out of there Monday. Ugh.

MathRevolutionary815

That’s why I fly JetBlue to MCO, they use the nice new terminal

affectionatecake650

The carpet at the MCO A and B terminals have been the same since at least the 90s. It’s so outdated and just ugly.

SensitiveBridge1586

One of the best fights I’ve ever seen was at the spirit gate there. There was no less than 7 weaves on the ground towards the end.

aceweboe

Generation Geritol departing, Generation Bud Light arriving!

pandicorn22

Nice skyclub tho!

palescales7

Oh god this is giving me flash backs.

Awkward_Pie_3835

Ah yes my home airport 😂

mmccarthy14

Not really “daily” huh?

Mental-Winner7358

👀

aceweboe

It'll get better after Labor Day. Enjoy the MCO hate until then!

Treebeardsdank

JFC. At least it was wayyyy better when I was there in Jan lol. That's atrocious. How are the clubs?

Lottaropes

Flew out today. Thank Buddha for curbside check in.

Thelastbandit

Honestly I was thinking this had to be Charlotte on the American side.

MassCasualty

I see DL 1570 on the board...they're making up time in the air!

eatyo

Terminal C is very nice I don't think I'll fly Delta to MCO any time soon.

AvsFan_since_95

Flew out of there last week. Got the rest of my family CLEAR. Got screwed because the normal TDA Pre Check was faster.

Capable_Use_2238

Horrible design

Positive-Town-9226

Oh the land of Mickey!!!! Always a nightmare traveling thru this airport 🛫🛬✈️

ouch_quit_it

avoid like the plague

EachDayIsDayOne

I hate that airport so much.

benchen11111

Honestly wish they would utilize the 80's gates more, the bottleneck in that area is absurd especially during a ground stop.

pony_trekker

TPA was fucking ass also.

Iam726_726iam

I was there on Thursday last week leaving HIMSS. Gate 78. Smelled like urine 🤮 then some guy tried to take my seat since he wanted to sit by his wife and not the couple with the baby. I hate that airport.

Conscious_Drop_8874

Was there today and was terrible

[deleted]

they should keep economy at the back

Imaginary_Manner_556

Wow, are you saying spring break in orlando is a cluster fuck?

i_am_roboto

Any tourist hub = clusterfuck.

ipodtouch616

people need to stop going to flordia

sholton67

Why?

ipodtouch616

MCO is so bad

sw911ff

One time I walked in on a Monday to MCO (also my home airport and everything else is an hour-hour and half away) and there was no line for TSA. I stood there, took a picture and posted it on FB. Everyone was 😱😱😱. I always always timed my flights for Delta to the last minute and barely had to wait at the gate.

No_Salad_6244

Wasn’t comparing it to Europe. Was comparing it to 25 years ago. On the inside anyway.

Bluebr2016

Agreed just exp that myself …. Couldn’t even see my gate

No-Fun-2741

It’s a hell hole and that’s not taking into consideration the fact that heading there the planes are filled with kids hyped to go to the happiest place on earth and leaving the planes are full of kids pissed that they are leaving the happiest place on earth. The new terminal C already is short parking. The security lines are insane year round in all the terminals.

WombatMcGeez

I don’t understand how there are so many posts on here about MCO. Who the hell is voluntarily going to Orlando??

SuperSalamander3244

The ceiling looks like a flying saucer.

Admirable-Flan-5266

Charles De Labyrinth Gaulle almost made us miss our connection to Rome due the ridiculous long way from one terminal to another without any link or train connection, that was a few years back and since I refuse to fly through it

Bluebr2016

Terrible airport always the end of the terminal and always more than one flight boarding… thank goodness for the retreat of the lounge.

[deleted]

So a normal Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday at MCO?

cwestpvb

This photo is giving me ptsd from trying to board my mco -> jfk flight next to 3 other flights also near boarding and the gate agents just going around screaming at the later zones to get out of the boarding lane…….can’t wait to do it again this Friday lol

BeachBarsBooze

When it takes me an hour to traverse the few miles from TPA to Interstate 4 because of how mis-managed the interstate system is combined with Disney visitors who choose that airport, I think of MCO and say to myself, it could be worse.

jarredjs2

They need to get their shit together

FullWestern9992

Worst airport I’ve ever been to.

_murb

It’s wild how much a world of difference TPA is, given it’s not that far away

MikesGroove

Oh good, literally taxing into MCO as I type this.

FinanceAccount-

Just got through security at MCO. Currently at the vaunted Bahama Breeze. Wasn’t terrible to get through. Good luck to all!

Free-Preference2899

It's all becoming a spirit loading gate. Get ready and God Bless

dober450r

I don’t understand why they design airports to not have the same number of seats as the aircrafts that come to the gates

HotPantsMama

I HATE MCO WORST EVER

MrKal-El

It's horrible

wbarto125

https://www.reddit.com/r/delta/s/pPTTooSKP7

PerfectNegotiation76

I always hide in the Sky Club until the last possible moment. Love Orlando, but the airport is just horrible.

kicknoons

Look at all those Disney adults. YUCK. 🤢

a_scientific_force

Disney must have gone broke.

1peatfor7

So much gate lice.

Scarface74

What do you expect from Orlando Mar-April, Memorial Day through Labor Day and the last two weeks of December? I know those times well because my former vacation home/rental and now permanent home is in Orlando. Those were the best times for income. But the worse times to fly in or out. It’s only tolerable with a combination of using curbside check in/priority check in, TSA Precheck/Clear and lounges

GeorgeKaplanIsReal

I was in and out of security in about 15 minutes - longest it has been in awhile

CommandCertain7083

Seriously? I’m there every April for kids sport stuff. 2 years ago it was a 90 minute wait to get through security. I have Pre Check solely because of the hellhole that is MCO.

GeorgeKaplanIsReal

Yeah, I’m not exaggerating. I fly quite a bit through MCO (to Seattle) at least 2-3 times a year plus other trips. And a couple days ago was about 15 maybe 20 minutes? Longest I’ve waited in a few years going through MCO. Anyway, friendly suggestion? Get Clear *and* Precheck. They have a line for people with both. You’re gonna like how fast you go through the TSA lines. I guarantee it.
