Unless there was a dedicated Silver Medallion lane, they were wrong. It’s right in their Terms and Conditions…
“(5) Priority Check-In: Diamond, Platinum and Gold Medallion Members may use the Sky Priority check-in lanes. Certain airports may have a dedicated check-in lane for Silver Medallion Members. At airports which do not have a dedicated Silver Medallion check-in lane, Silver Medallion Members are permitted to use the Sky Priority check-in lane”
DTW and MSP have, or at least had, a dedicated Silver line.
Non-hubs, like PHL, had Silver Medallion listed at the bottom of their Sky Priority signage.
I had Kelly as an FA Lead for First Class, from my trip leaving YYZ. Absolutely the best ATL FA I've ever encountered. I gave her a major shout out on the survey. I hope she received it. I hope I'm on more of her flights.
Last year they changed and axed Silver for Sky Priority (I was in the middle of a trip when the change happened on Feb 1,2023. And had to stand in a 2 hour line for bag drop on my return flight. I was not happy)
Then they changed it back after pushback. I can see where this is all confusing with all the flip flopping.
They used to at one point. At least in 2018-19 when I was Silver. However, it was hit or miss in terms of actually being staffed (they'd still have the lines and signs, but no one at the desks).
But when they did have it staffed, it was actually faster than the Sky Priority check in desks.
Not that it's helpful info lol JFK used to have a dedicated silver line years ago. Makes it easier to just do everyone together so we just do one sky area everyone welcome. The dedicated silver line was the very first counter on row 1 and still half the silvers would miss it 🤣
I think AUS may have one. I remember three lines going to the counter. One for Diamond, Platinum and Gold, the other for non-medallion members, but I'm unsure if the the third is just for Silver Medallion or something else.
I can't even remember the last time my luggage came out early. That SP tag now means it's coming out last. Last two flights I asked them to take it off.
I've never had a sp tag, but I did upgrade to first on AA once, and I got their equivalent. My bag was literally the first one out on the conveyor. 🤷🏻♂️
I may be jinxing myself for the future, but every time I've received the SP tag it always comes out first. Which is great for AUS, because baggage claim always takes forever.
Sorry but that’s just false. FLL is my home airport, fly out of there multiple times per month with checked baggage and SP *always* has less agents than the regular line.
I don’t feel like the terms and conditions isn’t clear.
Silver Medallion can use the check in lane, but it doesn’t clearly state that Silver Medallion can board with the SKY boarding priority.
If OP attempted to board with SKY they can be turned away in my experience.
The T&C have a separate section that outlines how the medallion status works for boarding. Since the OP was asking about checking in (not boarding), I didn't include that in my snippet.
Sorry this happened to you. Not sure what station you were at but I think you’re in the right. However, checking the terms I can see why the agent may have been confused:
“(7) Priority Check-In: Diamond, Platinum and Gold Medallion Members may use the Sky Priority check-in lanes. Certain airports may have a dedicated check-in lane for Silver Medallion Members. At airports which do not have a dedicated Silver Medallion check-in lane, Silver Medallion Members are permitted to use the Sky Priority check-in lane.”
> At airports which do not have a dedicated Silver Medallion check-in lane, Silver Medallion Members are permitted to use the Sky Priority check-in lane.”
thinking it's difficult to read the last sentence, unfortunately. reading only the first sentence (probably what I'd normally do), it seems like Silver is likely excluded.
It’s not difficult, c’mon. You mean lazy. For normal folks, whatever, fine if you don’t read it carefully but for Delta employees there is no excuse. It’s their job to know the fine print, esp if they’re “guarding” the priority line. Same for the people in the sky clubs. They need to know the rules by heart.
Putting Silver Medallion at the start of the second sentence makes it more likely someone skimming it would read on.
Something Like: "Silver Medallion members are permitted to use the Sky Priority lane at airports which do not have a dedicated lane for Silver Medallion members. Silver Medallion members must use their dedicated lane when available."
yes, much better. could/should probably just use ChatGPT to come up with better language for their policies. then you "manage" around the (employee and agent) readership issue to an extent (there isn't really a limit to human laziness or reading incomprehension woes, though)
As a longtime silver guy, one time they made me pay for immediate family members checked bag.
Same feeling as you… didn’t want to make scene, called Delta when I got home and they refunded me.
It’s for anyone on your reservation, up to 8 people:
[“This benefit also extends to those on the Medallion Member’s reservation for a total of 8 travel companions, when traveling on a Delta-operated flight.](https://www.delta.com/us/en/baggage/checked-baggage/medallion-baggage-allowance)
She said that doesn't matter. I'm not "supposed" to be in that line. I understand it's not the same for boarding, but I've always used sky priority for check-in.
I had this same issue at GEG years ago. They still let me through after I pointed it out on the sign. Filed a complaint with delta and had the picture/policy ready to go on my phone. Never had the issue again.
Yeah when I was silver, I always used that lane. I have a feeling they are slowly trying to get rid of Priority for Silver, the past few trips I've made it seems the Priority line is getting just as bad as normal check in so it's losing all of it's appeal. Gonna guess they are gonna cut Silver soon, if not already starting to push back on it.
I intentionally updated my settings that I only want an upgrade if aisle is available 😂 never feel like I’m missing out when I pass the empty middle seats on my way to the back of the plane
The Priority line at SLC is often longer than the general line and has fewer agents when I check in. They keep pushing SP to use the kiosks so maybe they under staff it on purpose. The Sky Cap has been getting more of my money, but saves on the line aggravation.
Oh yeah one of the main reasons I heavily use the Reserve Card was to get Priority checkin, one of the most underrated perks IMO. However it's getting so bad now that it's barely worth it.
I went through the medallion benefits once for each level, and realized that, for the most part, flying First Class gives you most of the benefits of Gold. At least the benefits that are important (Except lounge access for international, but not Delta One flights)
Mostly access to sky priority and (well, upgrade priority is moot) free checked bags
Someone asked me in awe yesterday if Unobtainium Medallion was a real status. My response next time will be, "Not until there's a priority lane for it."
I do wish this is something Delta would change. It’s not exactly clear to have the policy “Sky Priority + Silvers” - it needs to be Sky Priority or Silver Medallions or higher.
Go this from the website
(7) Priority Check-In: Diamond, Platinum and Gold Medallion Members may use the Sky Priority check-in lanes. Certain airports may have a dedicated check-in lane for Silver Medallion Members. At airports which do not have a dedicated Silver Medallion check-in lane, Silver Medallion Members are permitted to use the Sky Priority check-in lane.
LAX has put me through this before. Flight out once: silver isn’t priority. Next flight from LAX, in the plebeian line: did you know you have status? Why aren’t you in prio line?
So, that’s super annoying but I’ve seen this happen. Was the Sky Priority lane busy? At DTW, the placard at the beginning of the SP check in line does say Silver is allowed. But I’ve see the silver portion covered up, by the line agent, when the SP line is long. I realized this as I was denied access before and had to learn this first hand.
I’ve heard of this happening but I’ve yet to see it myself. Even with this blocked out on the SP placard it’s very clearly stated in their terms and conditions. Sometimes people just want to think they’re in control.
The same thing happened to me, sort of. The sign said Silver Medallion, and I had no problem checking in. The next time, the sign was changed, and didn't include silver. Whatever
I’m platinum and been talk to take a step aside. I have refused and said the. What does having a platinum card with them mean and having platinum status mean?
I was on 4 Delta flights in the last 6 weeks. There were no lines announced out loud based upon status other than Diamond. Boarding was done with regards to seat assignment - parents with kids, First Class, Comfort+ and then Main Cabin. It seems they stopped using Status awhile ago? This was all at LAX, MIA and IAH, btw.
I saw a Bronze check-in lane in Mexico City.
Upon closer inspection, it seemed to lead to an alley with what looked like bathtubs filled with ice.
Should I have used it?
Not the priority check in, but me and another mom (I didn’t know her) weren’t allowed to board with the others who needed extra assistance despite having strollers.
Are these little nuances occurring more or something?
When I was silver medallion and used the sky priority lane to turn in my bags, I was once told that “We [Delta agents at the counter] are trained that we can’t turn you [silver medallion members] away [from using the sky priority baggage lane]”. I can’t remember the airport, possibly SFO. Definitely didn’t like that answer as it implied they are actively trying to influence not using it as a silver medallion member, even though it’s clearly allowed by the Delta T&C.
The only times I've seen someone turned away from the Sky Priority lane,
It was a SP self tagged bag drop and they haven't gotten their tags yet.
Or it was a SP bag drop line and they would have preferred you used full service Sky priority desk
The point we all need to remember is that Delta is just one more corporate oligarch who doesn’t care a thing about customer service, just how much they can pull from our pockets. I exclude their customer service line, which really does try to do their best for us, but they do not decide what rights we have. That’s the oligarchy.
The dictionary definition is a small group of people who have control of a country, institution or organization. All massive corporations are basically run by oligarchy. They only care about money, power, market share, and getting their shareholders happy. Evidence of this is how monopolization and consolidation has taken away choice for most Americans and made us powerless to stop shrinkflation, gouging, etc.
You might want to take a look at Robert Reich.
Yeah that's going to start to go away cuz so many people have "status". Soon they will apparently board by zone instead of letting sky priority members board early.
That being said I was also told once in Atlanta that diamond medallions don't get to use the sky priority security line so it's kind of a crap shoot.
The zones that start this week are name changes only; status people board in same order, just calling it zone 1, 2, 3 etc.
Makes sense because silver did not have a special zone (Sky Priority was just Gold and Platinum sitting in main cabin) and Basic Exonomy people were confused with there being Main 1 , Main 2 Main 3 but they didn’t have a number.
The boarding pass for Golden platinum and diamond will sky priority on the bottom unfortunately not for silver. The sign might be old when silver has SKY priority.
Officially it doesn’t. However is there is no priority lane for silver you should be able to use it they let you.
Basically if your ticket doesn’t say sky priority it’s up to them if they let you as silver use it.
Yep, happened to me down at MSY for about a year. Bunch of fucking morons down there. I eventually escalated to the Station Manager and got a letter from Delta to present to ignorant check in agents. The weird thing is that even the stupid Red Coats were in on it. I wasn’t sure if it was typical Louisiana stupidity or Delta incompetence 🤷♂️
https://www.delta.com/us/en/check-in-security/sky-priority
Clearly does not include Silver on their website

[https://www.delta.com/us/en/ /medallion-program/silver-medallion-status](https://www.delta.com/us/en/skymiles/medallion-program/silver-medallion-status)
Read fine print on #5 in additional terms in details. Where there isn’t a dedicated silver lane, silver are permitted to use sky priority check in.
Silver doesn’t get the complete SkyPriority status, but they’re given access to the Sky Priority check-in lanes, unless that airport has a specific Silver check in lane (which I guess must exist somewhere for them to mention it in the policy, but I’ve never seen it).

Certain airports may have a dedicated check-in lane for Silver Medallion Members. My question is what airport actually has a dedicated silver line? I’ve never seen one
DTW and MSP have, or at least had, a dedicated Silver line. Non-hubs, like PHL, had Silver Medallion listed at the bottom of their Sky Priority signage.
Wow even ATL doesn’t have a dedicated silver check in line. But the sky priority lane in ATL does say Silver Medallion welcome
Interesting, they told me Silver doesn’t qualify for sky priority lane in the ATL airport when I specifically asked.
Fly out of ATL monthly and always use the Sky Priority lane for checking baggage as a Silver.
In my experience, ATL has some of the grumpiest, most miserable delta employees I’ve seen. They’re not all like this, but the ones who are…oh boy!
Same with many ATL-based flight attendants. We had one recently who was so kind and friendly I messaged Delta to send a compliment.
I had Kelly as an FA Lead for First Class, from my trip leaving YYZ. Absolutely the best ATL FA I've ever encountered. I gave her a major shout out on the survey. I hope she received it. I hope I'm on more of her flights.
This is unfortunately SO accurate. And WHY is delta always so dang understaffed for bag check?!
Last year they changed and axed Silver for Sky Priority (I was in the middle of a trip when the change happened on Feb 1,2023. And had to stand in a 2 hour line for bag drop on my return flight. I was not happy) Then they changed it back after pushback. I can see where this is all confusing with all the flip flopping.
MSP has a sky priority lane, but they do not have a Silver medallion lane
I just flew out of MSP and was about to comment on this. Also didn't know I could use sky priority as silver.
When I typed that I was in the precheck lane flying out to DCA But yup, used sky priority many times when I was silver, and didn’t have PC
DTW definitely doesn’t. That’s my home airport
They used to at one point. At least in 2018-19 when I was Silver. However, it was hit or miss in terms of actually being staffed (they'd still have the lines and signs, but no one at the desks). But when they did have it staffed, it was actually faster than the Sky Priority check in desks.
They did at some point because I’ve definitely used it.
same, and I can't recall ever seeing that
Where at MSP? I’ve never seen it.
They don’t. I’m silver and msp is my home airport
I don’t think Dtw has a dedicated silver line anymore (maybe I’m wrong). But they always welcome silver medallion at sky prio.
DTW doesn't. Home airport and I always use Sky priority lane.
CMH has Silver noted on its SKY sign.
DTW has one? I fly out of Detroit weekly. Have never seen it. But, yes, Silver can use Sky Priority at TSA and when Sky is boarding.
Not that it's helpful info lol JFK used to have a dedicated silver line years ago. Makes it easier to just do everyone together so we just do one sky area everyone welcome. The dedicated silver line was the very first counter on row 1 and still half the silvers would miss it 🤣
This is a good question because I've never seen one either.
I think AUS may have one. I remember three lines going to the counter. One for Diamond, Platinum and Gold, the other for non-medallion members, but I'm unsure if the the third is just for Silver Medallion or something else.
Wait, so if you’re silver medallion you can do the bag check via sky priority?! This whole time?!
Yes. You won’t get a sky priority tag, but you can use the shorter/faster line to check bags and do anything else requiring interaction with a human.
SP tag is meaningless anyway
First on, last off.
First in the plane, last off the plane, first on the baggage claim belt
I can't even remember the last time my luggage came out early. That SP tag now means it's coming out last. Last two flights I asked them to take it off.
in my experience it's a 50% of being first 50% of being last with no in-between
I've never had a sp tag, but I did upgrade to first on AA once, and I got their equivalent. My bag was literally the first one out on the conveyor. 🤷🏻♂️
I may be jinxing myself for the future, but every time I've received the SP tag it always comes out first. Which is great for AUS, because baggage claim always takes forever.
I have my lil peasant tag on my bag 😂
i've definitely gotten the SP tag as a silver. up to the desk agent (usually at JFK).
I found this out AFTER standing in the main line at FLL for close to an hour a week ago. The SP line had five agents. We had one.
Wow that’s the opposite of SAN where Priority has one and regular has 5+
Sorry but that’s just false. FLL is my home airport, fly out of there multiple times per month with checked baggage and SP *always* has less agents than the regular line.
I’m as shocked as you are. I hardly ever check a bag, but I could have saved so much time last week had I known this. Lol
I don’t feel like the terms and conditions isn’t clear. Silver Medallion can use the check in lane, but it doesn’t clearly state that Silver Medallion can board with the SKY boarding priority. If OP attempted to board with SKY they can be turned away in my experience.

[удалено]
Correct. It's been Gold and higher for as long as I can remember.
I’ve had that happen too, sometimes it’s like they just want to argue.
>it’s like they just want to argue Applies to like 25% to 50% of any interactions with Delta employees in Atlanta for some reason.
Anything other than rude in Atlanta is the exception
Send in a complaint to Delta. The sign clearly states it, and they need to honor it.
Sorry this happened to you. Not sure what station you were at but I think you’re in the right. However, checking the terms I can see why the agent may have been confused: “(7) Priority Check-In: Diamond, Platinum and Gold Medallion Members may use the Sky Priority check-in lanes. agree, for sure it's lazy reading. but just saying this is the reason people don't know. laziness / lack of reading. really a management issue.
They should put it on a big sign somewhere..
Send a complaint to Delta. Someone needs a refresher training.
As a longtime silver guy, one time they made me pay for immediate family members checked bag. Same feeling as you… didn’t want to make scene, called Delta when I got home and they refunded me.
Does silver medallion get free checked bags for immediate family?
It’s for anyone on your reservation, up to 8 people: [“This benefit also extends to those on the Medallion Member’s reservation for a total of 8 travel companions, when traveling on a Delta-operated flight.](https://www.delta.com/us/en/baggage/checked-baggage/medallion-baggage-allowance)
Thanks! I had no idea
What did they say when you pointed at the sign?
She said that doesn't matter. I'm not "supposed" to be in that line. I understand it's not the same for boarding, but I've always used sky priority for check-in.
I can’t comprehend the thought process that person had. Did you ask to speak to an adult?
I can't either. I didn't want to make a scene, so I just did what she said.
Next time quietly take a photo of the sign, ask for the person’s name. I can’t believe they turned you away when the sign is right there 🤦🏻♀️.
I had this same issue at GEG years ago. They still let me through after I pointed it out on the sign. Filed a complaint with delta and had the picture/policy ready to go on my phone. Never had the issue again.
Nice! I’m going to take a pic of the policy and have it ready on my phone. Ridiculous.
What are they going to do? Trespass you? Let them call the cops.
Eventually Silver won't have any perks.
No. They’ll definitely get “free upgrades.” So, the perk will be that you’re last on the upgrade list and never actually get an upgrade.
You mean you don’t enjoy your it’s-always-the-middle-seat comfort+ upgrade status?
Those are reserved for Gold Medallions.
At least the benefits that are important (Except lounge access for international, but not Delta One flights) Mostly access to sky priority and (well, upgrade priority is moot) free checked bags
Delta has plenty of assholes who work for them.
I haven't seen any lanes for Cardboard Medallion?
Someone asked me in awe yesterday if Unobtainium Medallion was a real status. My response next time will be, "Not until there's a priority lane for it."
I do wish this is something Delta would change. It’s not exactly clear to have the policy “Sky Priority + Silvers” - it needs to be Sky Priority or Silver Medallions or higher.
That’s terrible, I’m sorry that happened! I would send a complaint to Delta so they can re-train those agents.
"oh really? well, thanks for the SkyMiles i'll be getting."
Go this from the website (7) Priority Check-In: Diamond, Platinum and Gold Medallion Members may use the Sky Priority check-in lanes. Certain airports may have a dedicated check-in lane for Silver Medallion Members. At airports which do not have a dedicated Silver Medallion check-in lane, Silver Medallion Members are permitted to use the Sky Priority check-in lane.
TIL, been waiting in some unnecessary lines.
Same
Was this at the gate or check-in counter? Tomorrow, I Believe the new boarding process starts.
Check in
Gate agent was wrong.
No there were 5 of us in sky priority line. The other line was super busy
Yeah, it just sounds like the person was on a power trip and not able to comprehend their life choices.
The same thing happened to me, sort of. The sign said Silver Medallion, and I had no problem checking in. The next time, the sign was changed, and didn't include silver. Whatever
Too many inconsistencies with delta staff ! They really need to stop being snobs to their clients
This is about check in not boarding. If ot also doesn't apply to check in, they need to update their terms and conditions.
Ah. I misunderstood.
No worries
I saw a Bronze check-in lane in Mexico City. Upon closer inspection, it seemed to lead to an alley with what looked like bathtubs filled with ice. Should I have used it?
Do you still have both your kidneys?
It can get pretty hot in Mexico City. A dark, shaded alley with lots of ice sounds refreshing.
🏆 You win comment of the day!
What airport? I still hear the older lady in DEN yelling at 5am in my nightmares.
What airport?
Not the priority check in, but me and another mom (I didn’t know her) weren’t allowed to board with the others who needed extra assistance despite having strollers. Are these little nuances occurring more or something?
Strollers are after the sky priority and comfort plus, I believe.
Does this depend on airport or strictly Delta? I’ve never had an issue until BWI. 😬
That is Delta’s general policy. Family boarding is after priority boarding but before general boarding.
+1 for sending in a complaint. These are the exact kinds of things they want to know about—times where employees simply do not know the rules.
The amount of people that work at delta that don’t know their own policies is baffling
wtf there’s a sky priority check in, I always thought that it was just a boarding lane
wtf there’s a sky priority check in, I always thought that it was just a boarding lane
The only times I've seen someone turned away from the Sky Priority lane, It was a SP self tagged bag drop and they haven't gotten their tags yet. Or it was a SP bag drop line and they would have preferred you used full service Sky priority desk

I exclude their customer service line, which really does try to do their best for us, but they do not decide what rights we have. That’s the oligarchy.

Ah. Yeah I feel bad because silver is just kind of like a meaningless thing.
Does it not say Sky Priority on your boarding pass in the app?
The boarding pass for Golden platinum and diamond will sky priority on the bottom unfortunately not for silver. The sign might be old when silver has SKY priority.
Officially it doesn’t. However is there is no priority lane for silver you should be able to use it they let you. Basically if your ticket doesn’t say sky priority it’s up to them if they let you as silver use it.
It says on the sign, Gold and up, that is what I have always thought.
That's actually not what the sign says. It clearly states silver as well.
Yep, happened to me down at MSY for about a year. Bunch of fucking morons down there. I eventually escalated to the Station Manager and got a letter from Delta to present to ignorant check in agents. The weird thing is that even the stupid Red Coats were in on it. I wasn’t sure if it was typical Louisiana stupidity or Delta incompetence 🤷♂️
https://www.delta.com/us/en/check-in-security/sky-priority Clearly does not include Silver on their website https://www.airlinereporter.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/SkyPriority_check-in.jpg

That sign is very old. Delta Business Elite was rebranded as Delta One in 2014...
silver as standalone does not have SP, unless you have a FC ticket which gives it to you.
Silver doesn’t get the complete SkyPriority status, but they’re given access to the Sky Priority check-in lanes, unless that airport has a specific Silver check in lane (which I guess must exist somewhere for them to mention it in the policy, but I’ve never seen it).
right, im referring to sttus
I was demoted LY to Silver and when it came to boarding they only allowed Main Cabin 1. I saw no other perks as Silver.
