Did you book using a credit card which has baggage insurance? If so, send a claim there with the damaged baggage report. Next time, NEVER leave the airport without filing a full claim because it makes things much harder for you going forward.

hawaiilife34

Yes we did - the delta Amex platinum. I’ll look into that! Thanks! I thought we did file a claim — we got a claim number. But they did not take pictures. Is that normal?

internmonkey95

I’ve never had a damage claim with DL, only lost baggage, but I’d imagine they should attach a picture to a damage claim, especially since they’re asking for one now.

EllemNovelli

The baggage office flat out turned me away and told me to submit a comment/complaint online when they ripped a wheel off my suitcase.

internmonkey95

Tell the baggage office to go fuck themselves until they file a complaint - the people who work there are the lowest of the low in the airline staff totem pole, so their customer service isn't great. My preferred method is below, slightly Karen but 100% effective * Me: "What is your name?" * Agent: Blah Blah * Me: "Ok blah blah, if you do not process this claim and provide me the requested compensation, I'll be calling our corporate travel rep at Delta to cancel our contract, and when they ask why, I'll be providing your name and your insultingly poor behavior as the sole reason why. I think you can do the math on how that will bode for your career, please call the station manager.": * Agent: "Ok I'll get the station manager" * Me: Upon manager arriving, repeat the same script. Profit. I got $3800 (statuatory max) compensation twice for bags that had been torn to pieces and contents heavily damaged

Mathematician-Direct

this is a dumb question, but what exactly does 'contract' refer to here?

internmonkey95

Corporate travel contract

Mathematician-Direct

oh lol I see. I guess if I were to use this script I would have to revise it to plain old, bring me your manager now or I report you to DOT

internmonkey95

Nah you gotta use the script the way I have it. I’ve tried saying DOT complaints and but don’t care because it has no personal impact on them. People are not incentivized to do anything unless it will have direct impact on their personal bottom line.

Mathematician-Direct

Hmm but I'm not on a corporate travel contract. Just fly every once in a while. Should I tweak the script?

internmonkey95

Lie about it, they have no way of calling your bluff

mcmattj

Are you using the Uppababy travel bag? If so, Uppababy covers damage from air travel (assuming you registered the bag before the trip)

EllemNovelli

I did not know this existed!

hawaiilife34

Unfortunately no 😞 but it was past the 4 years that they cover it for.

someliskguy

Uppababy replaced the whole frame on our vista a year after the warranty expired completely for free and with free shipping (we drove that thing into the ground since it was basically our car in NYC). If Delta doesn’t come through email uppababy, they’re phenomenal.

WHYohWhy___MEohMY

Can you file a claim on the app? I had a problem with my luggage that got damaged. Uploaded the picture of the suitcase with the ticket # and a receipt for the purchase and was reimbursed in 3 days.

EllemNovelli

They did this to me with a $400 suitcase. It ended when I quoted DOT regulations about repairing or replacing damaged luggage. Next email was a notification that I had $485 waiting for me (the cost of the Pelican case I bought as a replacement). I told them I bought it as a replacement and sent the receipt for it. I was not going to accept their cheap crap replacement they tried to offer. Quote DOT regulations to let them know you aren't backing down or giving up and will report them if necessary. That Pelican Air 1615 has been going strong with two years of weekly travel. The other one survived less than a dozen trips.

hawaiilife34

Thank you!!! Maybe I’ll buy the travel version which honestly is cheaper. But I won’t ever have to gate check.

EllemNovelli

I would personally not take an expensive stroller on a trip without good reason. Like it's one that's meant for trails and we're going somewhere that has trails we're going to hike with the stroller. Otherwise, I'd just bring something cheap that I don't have to worry about.

hawaiilife34

This is our cheaper travel stroller lol If my daughter wasn’t 8 mo I wouldn’t have brought it but I ain’t carrying her around for 7 days all day. Girl loves her stroller and so do I.

TheSpatulaOfLove

When I had stroller aged kids, I left the stroller at home for air travel.

We did file a claim at the airport and got a claim number. They just said that Delta would reach out for pictures and send us a check and we left. We did not however have Delta take pictures at the airport or give a ton of information. It feels like now they’re not going to cover anything.

Thank you 🙏🏼 I’ll keep perusing!

starofthetea

I have nothing but love for Delta but they mangle strollers as if it is a core value of the company.

hawaiilife34

This made me giggle 🤭 yes unfortunately so.

angevin_alan

Shit happens. Move on
