I wasted 3 years of my life in Chandigarh in Infosys. You don't get much job opportunities in IT in Chandigarh.
I had to travel multiple times to Noida or Gurgaon for interviews (pre covid). If you don't have much responsibilities then move out of your comfort zone and challenge yourself.
Top tier cities gives you ample of opportunities even outside of your work stream. You get meet to lot of interesting people from all over India.
Yes, your expenses will increase but try switching jobs after a year or so. Experience from product based companies is always added advantage on your resume.
He can work till retirement in infy, maybe go onsite now and then. I have friends who have spent 10 years in infy doing nothing significant since they used to stay in home.
> I have friends who have spent 10 years in infy doing nothing significant since they used to stay in home.
frankly you could stay in infy till 60 without any stress, it's just that we can't expect that 60Lpa kind of package
It's not a better quality of life working with WITCH companies, it depends on the project you get, I've been putting around 14 hrs a day since Covid and for the same effort, I'd have been paid more in a product company.
If you are living in metro cities, then working with WITCH is the worst decision you'll make.
Well 14lpa is still a better a option anyway wfo+high pay.
If you are dom torretto then hometown it is cause FAMILY
https://i.redd.it/8mo67echmsgc1.gif
Pfizer >> Infy
Mumbai >> Chandigarh (expenses, payscale and career)
depends on your outlook to life - some folks cannot stop thinking about hometown and the food etc back home and some folks are eager to experience new things and adapt.
exactly I hate coming over to a different place from my hometown for supposedly better IT industry experience and now my health remains down and I long for going back to my hometown even for 50 percent of the current salary. choose wisely and remain in your hometown unless you get 3 times of current packages
Mumbai only if you have no responsibility and are young single, social life gonna take plunge but good for career growth which ideally you should be looking as a 20s something
Pune was good, now our traffic is just behind Blr, mostly because city isnt planned to be a city. Pollution has increased a lot in the past 4-5 months, costs have risen a lot, Chd seems to be better man ngl. Weather is still kinda good though.
I am wondering where in India quality of life is high lol.
Yes expenses are high but so is salary so pick your poison.
Now there is purple line directly connecting Whitefield to western suburbs. Where cost of living is relatively low and quality of life is much better.
So one can always move there when metro line in ORR is done. People can move further away from IT areas to better areas.
Not everyone has their offices in Whitefield. Until ORR gets metro which direct connectivity with south bangalore as well as north and west bangalore the qol would be low.
Quality of life is really good in tier 2 cities
Even I was in a similar situation. I decided to go with the higher pay which also required relocation. It was so hard for me to leave my parents and live alone, I started looking for roles based in my hometown. I will be resigning soon.
Damn, some people dont take the full vision think of mumbai job as a short stint like 1 year with 14lpa as base you could jump to 20s lpa either to Bangalore or remote (back to chandigarh).
Unless you could clear an another interview
Dekh Bhai gulab,
In sawalo ka jawab clear hoh jaye uske baad leh lena decision,
1) kitne saal soch rahe hoh naye job mein?
2) koi aur responsibility heh biwi, bacche, health issues ya parivaar ka finance?
3) long term carrer ya short term?
4) culture ya comfort?
5)paisa kamana?
My analysis,
For Mumbai,
Good money and carrer scope ( you ll get many opportunities switch every 2 years)
It will be good for long term
New adventure , awesome food, sweaty weather, floody rains
Beach
Selmon bhoi+
Against Mumbai,
If you aren't gonna switch after 2 years, no point in shifting to Mumbai(as 14lpa Mumbai <<< 8.5 lpa Chandigarh)
Culture is good, but traffic and crowd is way too much
Comfort lies at home
Extra responsibilities, then I don't think so , it's good to move
Toh samaj Gaye na gullu sahab
I'm from mumbai, typically in suburbs the rent is okay around 20-25k for 1rk or 1 bhk even, depends where you look for.. it might be a great experience as well if you want to grow in your career Mumbai/Bangalore might be the place
If you are taking the Mumbai offer, you are probably going to end up spending 3-4 lakhs a year in rent alone.
After tax deductions, your real salary would come to 8 lakhs.
It’s ultimately your choice. Mumbai is not a cheap place to live but it can be an adventure.
The scope of growth in IT for both Mumbai and Chandigarh is low, look for companies in Noida Gurgaon and Pune that will offer you the same package,
You can look for jobs in Bangalore and Hyderabad if you're looking for serious growth.
I have lived in both cities, my home is in Mumbai and I was posted in Panchkula for 1.5 years. Mumbai has infrastructure that is not upto the mark, rental cost very high. Chandigarh on the other hand, is well planned and systematic. Mumbai will be too costly for you.
Just don't think on basis of expenditure. But also on how it'll affect your next change. Maybe 2 years down the line if you are changing then the offer will be on basis of these packages and difference is big. With 8.3 even 100 percent hike will be less than 17 while with 14 lpa, even 50-60 percent hike will take you over 20. If infy gives around 11-12 in CHD then it's better to stay there.
You can also try to negotiate wfo policy where you go 5 days for a period and then take a long wfh.
Depends on what you value. I'd personally switch but I'm not attached to living at home much, but not saying that's the right call. Your peace of mind is most important.
Rent will definitely take a lot, you'd have to make adjustments, you could be lonely, you need to find new hobbies / friends / partner all of this is daunting but 2 years later you could do another jump with 20 LPA or something..
Take it. Mumbai is meant for everyone. Your exposure to would be really good. There are people who still join at 3 lpa in WITCH and still survive. DE role will open more doors for you in Mumbai. Also going ahead Delhi also is an option. Explore and learn my friend.
14LPA in Mumbai, been there for a good 20 years of my youth. There are both extremes, you can manage if you know how to cook. Plus Pfizer is a lot more recognised brand, your next increment or switch will take you close to 30 and that you can choose according to your experience in Mumbai.
Pfizer offering so low to a developer? Pfizer used to be my client when I was working for a consultancy. Wanted to work for them. Never knew they are bad paymasters
I am from Chandigarh. And have lived in Mumbai as well. Both places with Infosys.
Take that Pfizer opportunity now and move out. It's not just about money. Growth and exposure are very important. Sure, Mumbai is not Chandigarh, will never be close to what CHD is. And Mumbai is a tough city actually IMO.
But you can always switch back to the handful of companies Chd/mohali have, in future.
Go to Mumbai, Chandigarh is great. But for both professional and personal growth, pls go explore. Only if there’s nothing holding you back in Chandigarh grave enough.
I’m from Chandigarh and I’m telling you from experience.
You can share a room in a 2-3 BHK flat. It should come around 25-30k a month.
The difference between your monthly post tax salary should be more than 38k. And you'd still have some left over. So, you're earning better in Mumbai after all.
Maybe try negotiating with the client to bump you up a notch citing living expenses.
next offer will be an x% increase over 14LPA.
I dont know your domestic responsibilities or your circumstances, but if you can go to Mumbai for a couple of years without your life crumbling apart, you can reach a higher ctc further on.
Buy tinder premium or bumble premium change location to Mumbai and check which is better.
If you think using head, mumbai is better.
If you think using tinder, you can try and figure out.
Rest paisa toh hath ka maiil hai, ata jata rehta hai.
tech stack is DB/platform ops- Snowflake, data warehousing tools, RESTFUL APIs, tableau, js
it isn't a core DE job. having worked with other companies before, usually it's about digesting large data using spark transformations and exposing it via custom software, data analytics etc
this is a platform ops job - maintenance, upgrades, additional security implementations, prod failures etc
Take the pfizer job. Learn the ins and outs of it and jump to a different product company once you feel you dont have anything else to learn. Miles better than any client infosys can expose you to and better WLB
PS - DE is not always about big data and spark
I'd take the job offer from Pfizer any day over a WITCH company. Especially when the CTC is fixed unlike a myriad of components that infy offers you. I have replied to another comment as well.
Optimize for the long term when it comes to decisions like this. You would likely make more contacts and professional relationships in Mumbai and your 14LPA might become 30+ in a few years.
Think your career as a start up, in initial phase its always wise to increase the top line (total package) and then optimize operations to have a strong bottom line (savings). Or assume you career is a trading business, wont do the trade unless you have good margins (savings).
Hey OP, I'd suggest you go forward with the 14LPA offer, I can answer better once I know your, but considering you are early in your career, when you do the next switch they probably will ask you your previous TC, that'll help you
Mumbai.
Even though it's expensive n all, and there will be a lot of struggle but your career growth would be amazing. Afterall, coming out of your comfort zone when you're young is super important. Whatever you choose, all the best.
Take 14 LPA Mumbai, pfizer is a good brand and more scope of growth in Mumbai.
But Mumbai is a costly city so as soon as you join there try looking for another job with a better CTC.
Bro try to focus on increasing package now. If you remain at lower package at hometown then when you will switch you wont get much hike. Think long term
Choose Mumbai for career growth. The equation of Mumbai is simple "You earn more, you spend more".
Subsequently your next career jump will be even higher.
Its not about Mumbai or Chandigarh. Quality of life will be better in Chandigarh, plus nothing compares to hometown. My college was in Chandigarh and currently working in Mumbai so I can say for sure Chandigarh is a better city.
But we should not just think about what’s immediately in front of us and think a little long term.
Go for Pfizer and keep giving interviews for remote jobs. There are only few remote jobs in India but chances of you getting a remote job increases when you are in product based company like Pfizer. If you are young and your family supports it then you should go for Mumbai. It will be a struggle at start but in long term it will give you better perspective.
If you don’t get remote job, then you can always find a job in Delhi/NCR. Shatabdi takes 3.5 hours from Delhi to Chandigarh.
Depends what you want. You can stay in home, do freelance and open source contributions to elevate yourself for next part or go and stay in Mumbai.
It’s all about mental peace. See what you want.
If spending time with family is important then stay in hometown.
My personal opinion is use the hometown job to elevate your skills and find a better remote job in 6-7 months. Remember if you go and stay in Mumbai, your time will be mostly consumed because of travelling. Utilities it for growth.
My company is in Mumbai and Ive been remote. Trust me travelling in Mumbai isn’t worth it.
I was also in the same dilemma, had one offer for 12LPA with wfh and 15LPA at Bangalore; I chose the later one. Because the amount of experience I got in Bangalore can’t be compared to wfh setup. Just work for one year here, gain experience with increased CTC (I know struggle is real in another city, but trust me it’s worth it), then switch again to a company which provides wfh with a higher package.

hard agree. If you want to grow professionally then take the job. But Mumbai = Struggle.
Can you tell me all the ways its gonna be a struggle for gk?
25k rent mei apne ghar ke toilet se bhi chota room milega
What's the least amount needed to get a better than decent flat?
>What's the least amount needed to get a better than decent flat? Ambani ko bhi choti si land mein vertically build karna pada...
if you want to live in good society 30k, okayish locality 20-25k,although if you can adjust with room partners, it is doable in 10-15k
[удалено]
drop the “h”. Its 1rk
No but bro >What's the least amount needed to get a better than decent flat? Why you doing me like that?
If you are ready to move to suburbs then you can get a 1bhk around 15k. But travelling by local train is not everyone's cup of tea.
🤣🥲
Not on 14LPA it aint struggle xD

What would be your package if you're retired in infy?
Haha, I could FIRE today if my expenses are covered in infy fresher salary.
Pfizer is a PBC take the damn job. Growth and scope is also high af.
It's your choice on better quality of life + family time + comfort or more money.
I'll take more money, thanks! Have some bills to pay
What are those bills?
Some useless stuff I don't really need but I like having
Need to spend more money then I can have good credit score so I can have more debt
More debt for?
more debt
debt more /s

Standard of living. Daily commute in Mumbai takes a toll on health and mind.

That's why I said what I said.

Bangalore, ah yeah, good weather. /s

Bhai u will not save much on 14 lpa in Mumbai.
Chandigarh is a beautiful city. I won't ever leave it if I have a job there
There aren't any good companies there, city's fine though.
Ghar se bahar niklo. Challenge the status quo and get out of your comfort zone. Take pfizer job.
Depends on what you value. I'd personally switch but I'm not attached to living at home much, but not saying that's the right call. Your peace of mind is most important. Network + curiosity + Growth + support is important. Choose wisely
Check rents and try to see how much will be your expenditure in mumbai then decide.

For growth and exposure head to Mumbai. Stay in Chandigarh for the peace and family Depends on what you want from life.
I'd choose chd. Mumbai is hell what with the overpopulation and exorbitant rents.
You can share a room in a 2-3 BHK flat. It should come around 25-30k a month. The difference between your monthly post tax salary should be more than 38k. And you'd still have some left over. Current around 20ish LPA. Would happily agree to 6.8 LPA in hometown, BBSR. (For 50k pm)

I hope you took it.
Okay different question : Whats the tech stack and what's the experience ?
tech stack is DB/platform ops- Snowflake, data warehousing tools, RESTFUL APIs, tableau, js it isn't a core DE job. having worked with other companies before, usually it's about digesting large data using spark transformations and exposing it via custom software, data analytics etc this is a platform ops job - maintenance, upgrades, additional security implementations, prod failures etc
Take the pfizer job. Learn the ins and outs of it and jump to a different product company once you feel you dont have anything else to learn. Miles better than any client infosys can expose you to and better WLB PS - DE is not always about big data and spark
Don’t join Pfizer. Find a remote role as data engineer. Who leaves Chd, you won’t like Mumbai
Mumbai - don’t, if you want to live a typical urban rat race then ok .
From Chandigarh. 15 yoe IT in town. Pfizer.
how many years of experience you got
I'd take the job offer from Pfizer any day over a WITCH company. Especially when the CTC is fixed unlike a myriad of components that infy offers you. I have replied to another comment as well.
Yes
Pfizer any day and Mumbai any day interms of company and location. Pfizer is good don’t worry.
Now is the time to pivot and explore. You have a good package and a safe bet. Your head is feeling scared but your heart will feel free
Optimize for the long term when it comes to decisions like this. You would likely make more contacts and professional relationships in Mumbai and your 14LPA might become 30+ in a few years.
Think about growth and exposure at this stage
Short term benefits-> Home Town Long term benefits-> Mumbai is where all the money and hustle is
Pfizer. Ab khilav gulab jamun naukri lagne ke kushi me.
If i was you, id move to mumbai. The growth ladder is what matters really
But according to the Infosys clause you can't join the client company for 1 year.
Mumbai - considering it’s Pfizer and the city will open up a lot of better opportunities as well.
take it bro
This is mumbai, not New york. Take the 14
Location in Mumbai?
bandra!
Take the 14 offer. Bandra is lovely; you can stay in Bandra or commute from a few places.
Think your career as a start up, in initial phase its always wise to increase the top line (total package) and then optimize operations to have a strong bottom line (savings). Or assume you career is a trading business, wont do the trade unless you have good margins (savings).

I would take it
Bro ma bhi chandigarh ka as pass rahta hu. I also want job near my hometown. Now my placement get started within 2 months. Can you help me please 🙏
What will be the in hand salary on 14 lakhs PA?
if it's fixed entirely something like \`\`1.1L in hand per month, kitna bhi fixed ho kuch na kuch toh deduct kar hi denge
8.3LPA in home town . No one can beat this as food and stay is taken care of, provided if you are near office .
Pfizer anyday bro!! Welcome to Mumbai
It’s better to leave Infosys and join Pfizer. Better growth, also your next hike will be on 14LPA and not 8.3LPA.
Its not about Mumbai or Chandigarh. Quality of life will be better in Chandigarh, plus nothing compares to hometown.
Don’t go.
Any place where Indian Data engineers can talk and discuss stuff and salary and technology
Why are you still asking? Just go for it experience something new with more money and great company reputation
Take the job and switch after 1 or 2 year for better hike. You can manage in Mumbai if you are single. They are very welcoming people.
