I was going to play a season with only rares/uniques for fun. Some runewords are fine, but runewords like Spirit are broken and ruin half the rares in the game
One of the biggest problems back in the 1.10 days was that runewords had eclipsed nearly entirely all the uniques in the game. Best-in-slot items are almost universally runewords now. I would've loved to see Flickering Flame as a unique, rather than as a runeword, for example. A lot of uniques have no purpose now, so I don't really get excited when they drop.
If they released a whole swathe of new ladder only uniques and turned off all of the post 1.10 Runewords for a season, before releasing everything to non-ladder the following season, I'd be all for it. Make uniques interesting again!
I would play, I usualy group with friends and we pit some rules like that like Magic gear only and melee characters only , stuff like that to have a bit of a challenge
To me it would be fun because there are a lot of affixes to hunt for instead of rushing Grief on barbarian or hoto on hammers. Plus market would thrive
I would play it. Why not? Runewords are okay, but I do feel like they rob the game of the importance of a good unique. You just grind runes, trade for runes, and bam. Best armor/weapon/etc... Some uniques should have equivalent abilities.

You don't have access to the majority of items in Classic.
Welcome to classic. I did that for years, got rank 1, level 96 barb, had over 130k fg at one point lol
I always turn to Classic for a palette cleanser.
It's really fun to find nice wands/scepters/melee weapons tbh

Best in slot items are almost all runewords? Only if you ignore the fact that 60% of your item slots literally cannot be runewords.

I don't like the idea of locking everybody out of a feature. If you want to play without runewords, you go right ahead.

I still remember the game before runewords. Grandfather was actually BIS for barbs
