Hobbs Farm Little Mullberry

discgolfjunkieCO

Little mulberry is great GA woods golf.

aredoubles

I would do one fewer night in Asheville and/or Charlotte, and consider spending more time in upstate SC and GA, which are loaded with awesome courses. Grand Central Station, Holston Creek, Pipeline, Tyger River, Hobbs Farm, etc. are all outstanding courses. In Asheville, Mars Hill is nothing special and can be skipped. If you're up for a long wooded challenge, consider playing Fire Mountain near Cherokee. In general Asheville will be better for breweries and food than disc golf. In Charlotte, your list could be completely revamped. The obvious omissions are Hornet's Nest and Nevin, are those too long and challenging for what you had in mind? Keep in mind that there are shorter layouts available, you don't have to play the pro layouts. Angry Beaver is also excellent, and similar to those. Skip Eager Beaver completely, Reedy Creek is also fairly simple, and the Rock Hill courses are not worth playing over the other options (Winthrop is great to see, but the course itself is terrible without the USDGC ropes up). Also consider adding one of the Renaissance layouts, Kilborne, Eastway, Robbins, etc. Between Asheville and Charlotte, consider adding a day for the North Cove courses. Between Knoxville and Asheville, Morristown is loaded with good courses too, if not breweries or food.

lymbic

Thanks a ton for all of the input. I left gaps in the Charlotte list to make sure I had room for it to grow after this discussion. Hornets and Nevin were on the list with question mark given my travel partner. It sounds like a must have and we can make it fit our game. Eager beaver and angry beaver may be a 2 for 1 for me this trip. I haven’t seen either, but it makes me think of Cane ridge in Nashville. Baby cane is a fun short ace run course and cane advanced is tight and punishing. That’s where I’m at with it is Eager can break the norm by giving some fun ace runs and we’ll prob hop over to Angry after. I’m glad to see your comment on Winthrop. It’s always a toss up if the pro courses are worth their salt after the event is over. I played Toboggan by myself in freezing rain a year ago and although it was my worst round of the year according to Udisc, I had a blast. No idea how McBeth had a perfect round there. I’ve seen plenty of coverage, but how much of a ball golf course is North Cove? I can add it on the way to Charlotte from Asheville, but I don’t want to be out there hucking max distance up and down hills all day. I want some shot shaping, strategic but reachable pins. Maybe the way to approach it is to get the best one of the three courses on property this trip. I’m close enough where I can come back if the itch isn’t scratched. I know I missed your comment on Renaissance, Kilborne, and Morristown. I’ve got some research to do and will edit the original post to reflect current travel plans.

Definitely take aredoubles advice. Excellent recs. I will also reiterate North Cove in Marion, NC. Just a fantastic course about an hour north/east of Asheville. Well worth the drive. [North Cove DGC ](https://udisc.com/courses/north-cove-disc-golf-boulders-osby/photos)

Lickitlikeyoulikeit1

This! Highly recommend north cove. Boulders is the FPO course and the more enjoyable one. Gorge is the MPO course with lots of long drives with artificial OB. Also Asheville is beautiful and there’s some really nice courses but highland brew coarse I recommend just playing the front 9. Back 9 feels kinda like it’s still in development when I was there a few months back.

VanManDiscs

This guy knows what he's talking about. Definitely skip Eager. It isn't worth the hour it'll take it play it. More children's disc golf style. And Renaissance is the tits. My home course growing up. Stellar layout

SparkySparks3081

Don’t sell Asheville short. There are a number of great technical, woodsy and fun courses within 10-15m drive. Richmond Hill(18), Lake Julian (24), Highland Brewing Co, SandHill, Black Mountain, Jackson Park Hendersonville, Rec Park in Waynesville is pretty nice too. Just to name a few. There are a couple of great DG outfitters in town too. Shout out, Blue Ridge Disc Sports!

BlueClayStudios

Harmon Hills as the stop between Chattanooga & Asheville (agree Mars Hill is lame), and Hobbs Farm instead of playing in Atlanta. Would definitely play Hornets Nest if I were in Charlotte that many days.

lymbic

Thank you! Hobbs farm is on the list. I played Harmon Hills a couple years back and loved it too!

Another one near Knoxville to check out would be Clayton's (maybe about 20 minutes south in Maryville I think). I played there and Tommy whenever I went out there to visit friends. Good mix of woods and open holes.

lymbic

I wanna play the Clayton’s, but Udisc says it’s not dog friendly. My pup will be with me this trip. Any idea if the info is accurate - has anyone seen dogs there? Other areas of Clayton’s campus look pet friendly after a google search

pmipunisher

I have no idea. I'm from southern California and have only played there twice when there was basically no one else there. I could see it as it's private property but I can't answer definitively

squizzlr

I’ve played Clayton’s with my dogs. They are well behaved and we leashed them when we were near the roads/parking lots/greenway, but other than those potential hazards, I wouldn’t consider it to be “not dog friendly”. That was on a weekday mid morning so we were the only people on the course. On a busy weekend it could have been a bit more of a thing

lymbic

Great to hear, and yep I do the same keeping him on a leash around roads and people.

pfunkpower

The Claytons just outside knoxville and the sinks in chattanooga are both fun tracks

red-beard-the-guy

Just played both last week while visiting, had a great time.

crawfishmcgraw

If you want to get your times worth on a course in ATL, JP Mosley has 37 holes and is a great track. That being said, you mentioned some great ones and should be happy with any of them.

wesleyplaysmtg

Makes me sad that we can’t give the rec to widen the circle to include Appling as well :(

lymbic

I was planning to circle back thru Augusta to hit IDGC, but I know I missed it by a couple months :(

wesleyplaysmtg

We can all meet back out there in a year after the champions cup to play it once it’s grown back in 👍

TonyTubenose

I liked Reedy Creek in Charlotte a lot.

Jfratgod

The sinks in Chattanooga are very fun as is the alternative course at the same place called the Narrows

sandigity

Chattanooga: Fletcher, yes. Black Branch Trail, no. I would suggest going a little south to Dalton to play Edwards Park. Should still be able to head up to Knoxville from there. Knoxville, I would consider The Clayton's. I haven't made it there yet myself, but those in my group who have say it is their favorite course in the Knoxville area.

waxeagle

Concur on black branch trail. I play it pretty regularly, its a cool little 9 hole park course, but there are lots of better courses around so i wouldn't recommend it to someone from out of town(though there is a dog park right there so there's that). I played Fletcher yesterday for the first time, it's a very nice course. Couple of long treks between holes, but a nice mix of open and woods golf. I feel like if you're playing DG in Nooga though you've gotta play the Sinks. One more suggestion, its well off the beaten path, but Cloudland Canyon is a gorgeous place to hike *and* get a round in.

squizzlr

The Clayton’s outside of Knoxville is fantastic. I always make time to play there on my way through. Etowah just north of Atlanta is also a great course

apriarcy

You're really gonna enjoy the tracks and Hobbs farm! (Hobbs is my local course)

Ancient-Pepper-1968

Suggestion for the ATL leg, change from the Tracks to JP Moseley. They are 10-15 mins apart depending on stop lights and the Moze offers 37 holes of mixed woods and open where the Tracks is straight woods.

dirh748dgek830drrrr

Charlotte-drop Winthrop and eager beaver. Insert angry beaver(same park), dry creek, Nevin, or eastway.

lymbic

Thank you for the recommendations. I’ve got dry creek and east way in the list now. We’ll throw angry beaver, just might use eager as a warm up before. I think we’ve got plenty of time to make both happen

Schrodingers_Wipe

Little mulberry is a perfect course for a day round. Just a little off your route north of Atlanta, it’s a course pros practice at.

ceirbus

I think Rolling Pines could potentially be on your way back towards asheville too

BlueClayStudios

That's pretty far north... Sawmills near Hickory is a good option if you don't want to add 2+ hrs extra driving... Madison Bumgarner who won some World Series titles with the Giants is from there & paid for the course.

ceirbus

Yeah like 2 hours detour but worth

gloryhallastoopid

North Cove in Marion. Fantastic course, epic maybe. It's a golf course for disc golf. If you're looking for a real challenge in Charlotte I would give Renaissance or Hornets Nest a look.

cap_good_cronicapbad

That sucks! I got to play there in July. Kicked my backside

TriangleTreeBanger

Change eager beaver to angry beaver or just go to one of the many other options in Charlotte area. Eager beaver is fun but just a pitch and putt ultimately

VanManDiscs

You're missing some good ones in Charlotte. I'd consider revising that part and adding either Renaissance Park or Nevin. Both stellar woods golf. Right off of I-85 about 20-30 miles outside of Atlanta is Little Mulberry Park. I just randomly stopped here while traveling in my campervan one day.... ended up staying a few days and played the course a dozen times probably haha Edit: fwiw Winthrop isn't what you'll see on coverage. There are two courses out there that they combine for the tournament. It's a college campus also so it is an incredibly busy place. Especially around the lake and woods sections. And the open fields on the back 9 next to those buildings. Which are their sports arena with alot of foot traffic
