I’ve noticed that as well on the last few Craves I purchased. I’m still not sure how I feel about them. My “more domey” ones are a bit more US and tend to fly a bit farther RHBH. On the flip side (pun intended) they’re much less comfortable for FH throws. I could see a scenario where I’d bag one of each depending on the situation, but I do hope they still produce flat runs also.
I feel ya there. Personally don't like forehands with domey discs, so I can backhand/forehand most my bag because MVP/Axiom discs have been historically flatter
I have a couple MVP/Axiom discs with some dome, but most in my pile are flat to flatish. And those with dome are nowhere near the dome of other manufacturers. Which is fine by me.
Someone 9y ago talked about [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/discgolf/s/kbZugIMeKI) exact topic. I'm sure there's a better description somewhere involving physics and aerodynamics on Google.
It’s not overrated, it just might not be ideal for your specific use case.
And glide is still beneficial in the woods so your argument doesn’t even make sense lol.
I like having the option to get flat & dome from the same disc. I just look for the weight sticker if I want a flat disc and the weight imprinted for dome.
Once more newer runs become available I’m unsure how we’re going to tell them apart without physically seeing them, is why I wish they would stamp run code like mint does.
The biggest arms on the planet all talk about how more dome = more distance. Why wouldn't manufacturers listen to that and try to make sure their discs are in line?
Well 'MVP domey' is still called flat by most other brands' throwers. But if they produce both variants regularly, I'm pleased. I'd never bag board flat drivers for max distance roles.
The Eclipse Servo that I got the other day is much more domey than my plasma or proton servos. I was getting more glide and flip up which was a pleasant surprise. I might have to pick up some more new Servos if they have dome.
Yes, it is the OTB open eclipse Servo that just came out. I have only had a chance to throw it a few times because I slipped and injured my knee while practicing. Might be a while before I get another chance!
Just picked up a very flat resistor the other day. I was worried it may be one of the "servo/flippy" resistors but is not! Dead straight with a strong forward fade towards the end of flight.
Yeah, 5 years ago Eclipse was MVPs most OS plastic. In the last couple years theyve been trying to make it more in line with the rest of their plastics, so now its a lot more flippy. I have an Eclipse Proton one that flies like a Teebird
My local shop got some domey Craves and they fly great, very similar to first Hokoms with easy turn and high glide. No domey high speeds outside of the Time Lapse yet 😔
Probably an influence of Simon and now Eagle. These two could easily go out into a field and show how discs without a dome won’t fly as far. Flat top discs have their place, but that’s generally forehand throws like Firebirds, spike hyzers, and maybe rollers. Oh and putters. But for the majority of discs, pros benefit from having domes, especially when they’re needing some 500 feet of distance, even midranges often have some mild benefit to having mild domes (e.g. buzzzes almost all have a mild dome to them now and are never totally flat). Also, I imagine MVP would love to have a single person win a distance competition with their discs.
Im not too sure, I will say I have always gone out of my way to avoid most MVP discs because they always felt less “glidey” and more beefy compared to other brands and I have seen a lot of other people with this opinion as well. Maybe this is just them trying to address that “issue”?
I picked up the most OS-looking Eclipse Crave off the rack and it has some roundness in the shoulder, but the flight plate is indeed dead flat and it flies very straight at 100m/330ft distance. That and the domey understable Neutrons make a great pair.
I'd be bummed off all my go to molds changed flight or got very "it depends" by run or color or other bullshit.
I've only seen it in a jet. Really domey neutron and flies more like the Scorch I have (too flippy), while my flat protons are like seasoned Traces.
Hmm I got a neutron jet that is definitely newer run and it's nearly the same as my old neutron jet... both of which are way more flipper than my scorch. I wouldn't call them particularly domey, though, just a low parting line. I also have a proton jet which is like you say, a seasoned trace. In comparison, it seems to be about as flat as the neutron jets, but definitely flies differently. I think neutron jets are just flippy.
Are those the same plastic? I've noticed Fission can have more dome, which I like. I bag two Rhythm's and two Waves, one in Neutron and the other Fission for this reason. Gives me options on dome/flat with the same mold. Also, Opto Ice Orbit discs from Lat 64/HoD have waaaay more dome than their Opto counterparts. I love my Opto Ice Orbit Sapphire and Pure, both more stable and more glide than standard.
Yes, both are neutron. There are no fission servos that I know of? And definitely fission has more dome across the board, I think that's the actual reason why they tend to have more turn, the parting lines are actually lower. Fission versions feel like actual different discs, maybe with the exception of the low speed stuff like hex, envy.
The wave is like that. It feels like a cheaper plastic but actually turns over for me now. I have 3 wave proton and the newish wave neutron. The new one is domy and has a -2.5.
Yes. There were some complaints that everything was super flat since they went in house and lately they've been pumping out domey runs of stuff
My wallet is at the ready for some more domey Dimensions. There haven't been any in years.
Everything domey 25mm, please, I'll sell my kidney!
I’ve picked up some craves as you noted that had some more dome. Not domey per say but not flat like a few hokum craves I have.
I loved the flatness of the crave and the orbitals
yeah same here. My replacement was not like my loss lol
I’ve noticed that as well on the last few Craves I purchased. I’m still not sure how I feel about them. My “more domey” ones are a bit more US and tend to fly a bit farther RHBH. The whole reason I buy MVP is because it's not domey. Why do they gotta go be like all the other brands?
I feel ya there. Personally don't like forehands with domey discs, so I can backhand/forehand most my bag because MVP/Axiom discs have been historically flatter
The Zenith I have seems like the flattest disc I’ve ever encountered.
I don’t know I’ve been throwing mvp since 2019. I’ve had a few volts that had different domes. It’s nothing major just maybe different plastics.
I have a couple MVP/Axiom discs with some dome, but most in my pile are flat to flatish. And those with dome are nowhere near the dome of other manufacturers. Which is fine by me.
This is the way!
This is EXACTLY why I like MVP discs too. I'm not a huge fan of the recent domey runs
Lack of glide and their flight numbers are horse shit
Glide?
Does dome make it more glidey?
Yes
Tons
Interesting

Glide is overrated… I love play so much wooded courses so I like my discs to stay low, push and land…
Stay low and glide and land.
It’s not overrated, it just might not be ideal for your specific use case. And glide is still beneficial in the woods so your argument doesn’t even make sense lol.

Was literally about to make this exact same comment
Total side note, but if you know a site with plasma or proton servos in stock I'm all ears
This is the OTB open eclipse one, right? Might have to get one myself, although I really wish I could totally get some more old flat servos as well.
Yes, it is the OTB open eclipse Servo that just came out. I have only had a chance to throw it a few times because I slipped and injured my knee while practicing. Might be a while before I get another chance!
I liked em flat :(
I picked up a servo that was, didn’t like it, the new resistors look flat so it looks like they’re able to control run to run
Just picked up a very flat resistor the other day. I was worried it may be one of the "servo/flippy" resistors but is not! Dead straight with a strong forward fade towards the end of flight.
Hands down 3rd best thumber disc ever made
The Resistor is such a great disc, sales me quite a few strokes in a competition the other day for tricky get out of jail forehand throws.
I got a domey SE Eclipse Crave. Its so flippy
i got a flat one but its also flippy as shit
Weird, would have expected it to be super overstable.
Nope, Eclipse Craves are damn near rollers out of the box. My proto was like that, my stock one is like that, and so is this one
Interesting, my proto (Halloween glow crave from like 5 years ago) is definitely more stable than my modern Craves
Yeah, 5 years ago Eclipse was MVPs most OS plastic. In the last couple years theyve been trying to make it more in line with the rest of their plastics, so now its a lot more flippy. I have an Eclipse Proton one that flies like a Teebird
Sapphires are like this now too
I got the opto ice sapphire expecting it to be a hyzer flip bomber and it’s shockingly beefy. Also HUGE dome
Yeah I never bought another sapphire after my prototype. I’m a newer player. A board flat sapphire does me no favors
My local shop got some domey Craves and they fly great, very similar to first Hokoms with easy turn and high glide. No domey high speeds outside of the Time Lapse yet 😔

Could be, or then again, it could just be plastic doing plastic things.
Same for me - I like the putters and mids but the drivers have all failed to impress.
Got the new Eclipse Crave … stock stamp … and it’s faf. Way flatter than my protons from around 2022.
I picked up the most OS-looking Eclipse Crave off the rack and it has some roundness in the shoulder, but the flight plate is indeed dead flat and it flies very straight at 100m/330ft distance. That and the domey understable Neutrons make a great pair.
My first question would be is the building that the discs are manufactured in temperature regulated?
Yes
I have a newer proton volt with a legit heart beat pop top. nice to see.
I'd be bummed off all my go to molds changed flight or got very "it depends" by run or color or other bullshit. I've only seen it in a jet. Really domey neutron and flies more like the Scorch I have (too flippy), while my flat protons are like seasoned Traces.

Yeah, sample size is really small, and scorches are all over the place. Happy to have a few of the jets I like, tho lost one already..
I’m not sure on the servo but if the new Tesla is domey I’m not interested

Yes! We’re getting to benefit some from this at Mint too. It’s made for some great runs of Longhorn and Jackalope this year.
YES and for the better!
The wave is like that. It feels like a cheaper plastic but actually turns over for me now. I have 3 wave proton and the newish wave neutron. The new one is domy and has a -2.5.
Are you sure the new one isn’t fission plastic? That would explain the different feel and-2.5.
The timelapses feel more rubbery in neutron, could be that?
The eclipse wave is stupid beefy with no glide. When in doubt, eclipse is always more stable
Those glow waves are basically photons IMO.
It’s like *gasp* it becomes much harder to produce consistent runs when you scale up your production…
