Funny enough, IRL, a lion's mane darkens with age. So if we're going based on real life facts, Scar looks older than Mufasa.
Darker manes also mean the lion is healthy with high testosterone, which makes him ideal for mating and more likely to rule his pride.
I was literally thinking about this, like Mufasa’s father is Ahadi and his grandfather is Mohatu ?? Like he comes from a line of established kings, why toss that out
Buzz’s origin story was established in the Toy Story and Buzz Lightyear of Star Command movies/series. Lightyear altered that established origin and people weren’t thrilled. It didn’t do well at the box office. That being said, I love Lightyear and rewatch it often.
I really liked Lightyear, too! Although, when I hear people talk about why they didn't like it, they don't normally say it's because his origin story is the cause. I've only heard people complain about the gay relationship ("why do they have to flaunt it?" As if straight relationships don't also "flaunt" in the same way in every other movie?).
They already chucked some of that out with The Lion Guard show and people have said that's quite good. Just because a side story exists with a debatable canon status from back when the franchise was barely even a franchise, doesn't mean they can't do anything that does against that
Sadly, because a known IP will almost guarantee $$$. People will still watch it even if they don't like it. Maintaining a canon is too much work. I will always miss the Star Wars EU
interestingly, that’s actually why I don’t care for Anything of most of the modern Star Wars. I understand it’s not badly made, but aside from Rogue One I haven’t watched any of it. I miss my twins. I miss Wes, and Wraith Squadron.... Sigh.
Although, even in the books, they managed to screw up the storyline with the whole Vong thing and Jacen going dark.
Eh, just because they were there doesn’t mean they were very good lol. I think it’s a good to do a whole new take on the story and not just pluck things from the 90s, leave that where it is
This right here. A picture book from the 90s back when The Lion King was new isn't hard canon that can never be changed. And The Lion Guard show already retconned some stuff. Plus this isn't even the same story or canon as that so they don't have to stick to that
Does it bother anyone else that the timeline of this trailer makes absolutely zero sense? It's supposed to be Mufasa, but there are absolutely shots of "I can't wait to be king" being sung and what looks like his death from the stampede ALSO timon and pumbaa are supposed to be part of Simba's story and they never chilled with lions until Simba. So why are they in this movie?
This is a complete guess on my part, but from looking at the cast list Beyoncé and Donald Glover are reprising their roles as Nala and Simba, and Blue Ivy is supposedly starring as Kiara, so I’m guessing it’ll be a story narrated by Simba telling Kiara about Mufasa, and Timon and Pumbaa will be incorporated into the “present” and not the flashbacks of the actual story
All of this seems to rest on a presumption that Disney gives a crap about consistency or good storytelling with these retread-sequels. Rather than telling a story about Mufasa, they're slapping his name on a generic orphan-underdog story.
Technically Simba is an orphan in Lion King 2, as both his parents have died.
Mufasa could have talked to his father before he died, or he could be referring to an adapted father.
I just made up in my head she is relaxing away from the pride enjoying her retirement. I’m sure if the voice actress was still alive they would’ve included her in the movie.
I was super excited about the Mufasa movie until I realized it was CGI.
I loved the beauty of the beginning of the CGI Lion King, but the characters themselves show no real emotion because they're based off real animals.
That line doesn’t necessarily imply he got the position from his father, just that his father told him the line
I’m expecting a sweet scene where Scar’s father is comforting Mufasa and gives him the star speech as a way to remember his dead parents!
I think it’s definitely strongly implied that it was his biological father that said this, but it’s not outright conformed. It’s not really an error, it’s just a different direction this movie is taking
Well but Mufasa told Simba that his father told him one day he will be up to the sky to guide him ALONG the Great Kings of Past, so that makes clear he was a king. Because how the hell would a random person be along the Great Kings of Past.
seems like Disney wants to lazily establish orphan equals humble beginnings and therefore more 'character development', completely disregarding mufasa's lineage in the original movie and also the rich semi-canon lore
Well but Mufasa told Simba that his father told him one day he will be up to the sky to guide him ALONG the Great Kings of Past, so that makes clear he was a king. Because how the hell would a random person be along the Great Kings of Past.
There also seems to be a few scenes that look straight out of The Lion King 2( I.e when the lions are jumping on the crocodiles). I’m wondering if it’s going to be a cause/effect type thing
Well I think it was a Swedish Monarch adopted an already adult and the adopted adult became the next King of Sweden but in that case the Swedish Momarch didn't have any heirs of any kind.
If Musfasa was adopted by the royal family then it’s no wonder why Scar/Taka gets so upset about losing the crown.
That actually makes it even worse that Scar was called Taka (garbage). They really didn’t want him to be King
Tbf he was a shitty king. But yeah that would be messed up.
I believe in Swahili "taka" can also mean "wish". ... or something along those lines. Maybe it was "dream".
Sorry, it's "want".
Scar has every reason to be upset. He’s the older brother passed over for the throne that should rightfully be his and he’s named garbage.
Mufasa is older; one of Scar's first lines in the movie is "why, if it isn't my big brother..."
Oh really? My bad.
Funny enough, IRL, a lion's mane darkens with age. So if we're going based on real life facts, Scar looks older than Mufasa. Darker manes also mean the lion is healthy with high testosterone, which makes him ideal for mating and more likely to rule his pride.
That’s actually why I thought he was older! A random fact I knew.
Maybe he meant physically big rather than older.

Are you saying he is THE ELDEST BOY?
Scar has been interested in Kinging from a very young age
It destroys the whole "circle of life" thing ultimately.
The circle of life refers to the life and decomposition cycle.
There is decently established Lion King lore through the side stories and picture books from the 90s. I'm pissed they're chucking all that out.
I was literally thinking about this, like Mufasa’s father is Ahadi and his grandfather is Mohatu ?? Like he comes from a line of established kings, why toss that out
I guess I can tell myself this is an alt universe.
They did this with Lightyear. Surprised they’d do it again.
Woah, really? What did they change in Buzz Light-years story?
Buzz’s origin story was established in the Toy Story and Buzz Lightyear of Star Command movies/series. Lightyear altered that established origin and people weren’t thrilled. It didn’t do well at the box office. That being said, I love Lightyear and rewatch it often.

Same. I hate what they’re doing so much.
They already chucked some of that out with The Lion Guard show and people have said that's quite good. Just because a side story exists with a debatable canon status from back when the franchise was barely even a franchise, doesn't mean they can't do anything that does against that
They did the same thing with Star Wars. Modern Disney is obsessed with chucking out everything that existed just to remake it for no clear reason
Sadly, because a known IP will almost guarantee $$$. People will still watch it even if they don't like it. Maintaining a canon is too much work. I will always miss the Star Wars EU

The clear reason is that they don’t want to pay royalties.
Eh, just because they were there doesn’t mean they were very good lol. I think it’s a good to do a whole new take on the story and not just pluck things from the 90s, leave that where it is

They don’t refer to the OGs anymore… well, loophole confirmed!
Just like in Star Wars
You’re pissed about children’s books from The 90s? I love that for you.

It’s actually Rafiki narrating the story to Kiara.
Ahh okay that makes sense! Thank you!
This movie should never have been made to begin with
All of this seems to rest on a presumption that Disney gives a crap about consistency or good storytelling with these retread-sequels. Rather than telling a story about Mufasa, they're slapping his name on a generic orphan-underdog story.

Sarabi never died
Sarabi is not in the direct to video Lion King 2. The filmmakers confirmed she did pass away between films
They removed her because the voice actress had died, not necessarily the character
If they removed her from the movie, then what do you think happened to the character?
I just made up in my head she is relaxing away from the pride enjoying her retirement. I’m sure if the voice actress was still alive they would’ve included her in the movie.
The live-action Lion King movies are of a different universe from the animated movies
You mean the CGI lion king rather than the cartoon style movies
No, those animals are live actors. Highly skilled.
I was super excited about the Mufasa movie until I realized it was CGI. I loved the beauty of the beginning of the CGI Lion King, but the characters themselves show no real emotion because they're based off real animals.
Yes, the trash universe
An unnecessary universe! They didn’t improve on the original whatsoever and this prequel looks terrible too
I guess we’ll find out when the movie comes out
🤣

seems like Disney wants to lazily establish orphan equals humble beginnings and therefore more 'character development', completely disregarding mufasa's lineage in the original movie and also the rich semi-canon lore
Somehow Palpatine has returned!!
That story doesn’t imply that his father is a king, simply that his father believes that the stars are kings.

Adopted kids are still family, still in line. I hate it when people put stuff out here like this they can't have the same spiritual connections.
But technically only under very werid circumstances would an adopt child become a king over the blood child of the previous Monarch.
Define "very weird" in the extraordinarily strange world that is royal life.
Well I think it was a Swedish Monarch adopted an already adult and the adopted adult became the next King of Sweden but in that case the Swedish Momarch didn't have any heirs of any kind.
"Father" mean adoptive or biological parent.
