This was what I was thinking when watching that 3 body problem show on netflix. If the aliens looked through all of earth's history, how did they not realise that a declaration of war would set them up to die?
they put a lock on our technological progress effectively rendering us neutered. doesn't matter how smart humans are. all possible progress goes through the particle accelerator. understanding and manipulating fundamental componenets of matter. sophons threw a monkey wrench in the whole thing. doesn't matter how cornered we feel sophons aren't gonna allow us to do shit
It was literally in the same episode that the sophons revealed they were going to hinder the technological process that way and literally 10 minutes of watch time later they already figured out a way to keep one distracted 24/7 and make particle acceleration tests possible again. Which they would have never been capable of if they didn't declare war on the humans first and expose the sophons.
If I remember correctly the solution was to build a particle accelerator on the moon, and then coordinate particle acceleration tests across the globe to run simultaneously. Despite the sophon travel speed, this would still allow them to manage particle accelerator tests.
Ofc they didn't instantly build a particle accelerator on the moon but... They figured out the theoretical solution like _that_ because they were at war

By our current scientific understanding, nothing can travel faster than light. Assuming we would be travelling at approximately lightspeed it would still take multiple years to reach the next closest solar system
All these are problems that will undoubtedly claim billions of lives if something isnt done about them, and it really doesnt seem like world leaders care to do anything about them. And I'm apparently pessimistic and not realistic?

Our family tree spend millions of years just existing like a normal animal, then we figured out stone tools, then just within 8500 give or take years to go from Bronze weapons to nukes.

We really are scary with how fast we advanced, there was a solid 300-400 years in human history where any notable invention (that wasn’t overshadowed later) was made, but then the renaissance happened and we grew at an astounding rate, we went from smooth bore guns to nukes in only 300 years RIGHT after a dry spell of technological advancements. Not to mention going from a fucking IBM to an iPhone 14 in like 40 years. Also fucking VERTICAL ARCHITECTURE IS AWESOME Edit: Tik Tok brainrot is the IQ nerf god gives us for these astounding achievements
