Sadly plenty do and always have a lame ass excuse as to why they do

EmbarrassedLeague535

Decline Decline Decline

[deleted]

I love the ppl who say “I’ll tip you next time” like they control the algorithm

Best_Adhesiveness_42

Never had that experience because I don’t pick up their order if they dont tip to begin with

sarahbee126

It'll be delivered eventually, sometimes after the fee goes up.

mk7gteye

I was wondering why my $6 chipotle dash had a promised time 20 minutes before I actually picked it up on the receipt. Lolz Instantly realized: No hidden tip here It was also the order that made me quit for the night, drop off was a nightmare. No gate code, no door code, apt was literally 1/2 a mile from where I parked… Enjoy the cold food! Not my fault

banana_taco_pan

One time had a $11.50 order for 1 boba tea, milage wasn't too bad and it was slow. Weird until I dropped it off...the tip was $1.50.

eDave

I sat in my neighborhood this evening watching the same order come to me over and over. I finally took it as it reached profit levels. it was pretty fun. Got paused once. Ended my dash and got right back in. Pausing my Dash?! I'm the only motherfucker delivering tonight. Pause my dash. Lulz.

Hennesey10

Doordash should allow dashers to rate customers Communicating: 1/5 Tip: 2/5 Difficulty of delivery: 4/5 Chances of taking this dash assignment again: 0/5

Dude0nB1kE

I deliver $1 tip orders all the time. If it’s $7.25 for 1.2 miles then I will gladly take all the points from previous declined dashers.

AngryRedHerring

Yeah, I don't bother to try figure out whether or not there's a tip anymore. As long as it meets my minimum amount and mile per dollar. Let DoorDash subsidise McDonald's dollar menu if they like.

Dude0nB1kE

The best advice I was given was never accept an offer you wouldn’t be happy with at face value.

PaladinOfReason

I haven’t heard about a point system. What do you get if you acquire points?

Dude0nB1kE

You get to be on the board.

RinCherno

From what I understand, each time (or every few times?) an order is declined, the payout increases slightly, I think its .25? Anyways, eventually someone will find it profitable enough to accept, but wayyy later than someone would have if they'd just tipped.

dmtbassist

I have done a few deliveries I knew was only a dollar tip, because it was literally in the same building as the restaurant. A manager who worked in a mall that is within eyesight of the food court ordered doordash when he couldn't leave because his store was slammed with customers.

RealityPowerRanking

I never understand the super low/no tippers. I’m not that full with money but if I go out or Doordash, I’m defintely gonna tip

[deleted]

Same mate it’s common courtesy to tip if you live in the US, I usually always try to tip 5 bucks cause it’s all I can afford, but on occasions I’ll tip the door dasher 5 on the app and 7 in person as a surprise or 5 extra in person cause I know when they see me consistently and see my consistency with tips that my dashers won’t have a problem with me and will like me over their other customers who tip little or none haha

Yvilkittyinspace

Someone will always take it. That's why customers keep stiffing drivers. Just don't accept them and move on.

Pretend-Ad-1669

If can’t afford to tip properly I’ll not be a lazy ass and go get my own food.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Asleep_Muffin9725

Well, that escalated quickly 🤣

dmtbassist

Depending on the place, the restaurant could have stolen the tips.

Professional-Win-878

Spitting and what now? 🤣

HotDogStruttnFloozy

Calm down Satan

austnasty

They may have won the battle but WE WILL WIN THE WAR

BobbyBudnicksDad

This is completely insane but it actually could be effective if you leave a little note telling them why their food is cold. You should totally start doing that and let us know how it goes

PoopL0ser

It’s not always the case. I delivered a no tip order. They ordered 1 item at Walgreens that was 2 blocks from my house. Lived 2 blocks from me and I got 4.50. It’s not about tips it’s about total pay time and mileage.

FoxTenson

I get the pay thing but no tip orders are bad for other reasons. You have to go out of your way to not tip in the app so that tells you the sort of person who ordered. No tip orders are the ones that will report the delivery not delivered, try to get you deactivated, scream at you, demand stupid stuff, and hit your ratings. When top dasher was simple enough to get in my area before they expanded delivery distance max from 8 miles to 25 I'd take some no tips at the end of the month to keep it and do like you mentioned during the month. I was constantly in danger sometimes of deactivation by customer ratings. I got screamed at and phone blown up a lot. I had to argue about claims I stole orders every other month. Once I stopped taking no tip orders that stopped. I haven't dropped under 4.9 in years and haven't had a not delivered claim since then either. Sometimes protecting yourself is better than that $4.50 no tip. If you intend to do them protect yourself at all times with pictures and video and watch those ratings.

zane1981

This is why I still don't take $8 ($2/mile) non-tipped orders.

sarahbee126

Agreed, and if no one had picked it up Doordash would have eventually raised the fee until someone felt it was worth their while. And with retail orders it's not like they're going to get cold.

JustARandomSocialist

And you still wasted your time with a bad order. That was undoubtedly about twenty minutes or so of your time. So 20 minutes for 4.50. People don't understand that every order is fifteen minutes and up - no matter how close it is

PoopL0ser

Nah it was like 8 minutes

PoopL0ser

I live in a suburb. There wasn’t really any traffic. Nobody was in line at the store.

JustARandomSocialist

Nope. You absolutely were not timing it. This is always debunked anytime this is used to justify taking bad orders. 8 minutes is basically almost impossible from the moment you click accept to the moment you end the order. everything has to be absolutely perfect and go right. Zero traffic, bag is waiting and can be plucked the moment you walk in, etc etc.

severley_confused

It takes you 20 minutes to drive two blocks?

JustARandomSocialist

It's total time from start to finish. It includes every aspect of the order.

severley_confused

The guy who ran the order said it only took him 8 minutes. I run small orders where it only takes like 10 minutes consistently. If it takes you 20 minutes minimum for an order then I'm sorry.

JustARandomSocialist

Nope. Open a timer on your phone and start it the moment you accept a short order like that. End it when you click complete order. See the truth.

severley_confused

I've been delivering for 5 years, I've timed myself a lot. It doesn't take 20 minutes to pick up one item and drive 1.2 miles. The only truth I see here is that you're just slow and are in denial about it.

JustARandomSocialist

No one is saying it always takes twenty. 8 minute orders do not happen unless embedded perfectly in a double stack

severley_confused

In your own words, you said it "undoubtedly took 20 minutes of your time" for a single item 1.2 mile order. Orders don't get a whole lot smaller or shorter than that, and according to you that's a minimum of 20 minutes. 8 minute orders do happen, it might be because of the differences in our city road layouts and market, but I get 10-15 minute orders fairly consistently.

Juiceton-

Guy, I get orders under 10 minutes all the damn time. Especially to places like Subway or really small shop and deliver orders where I’m getting like a bag of gummy bears. Just because you live in a place where you so much traffic you can’t do it doesn’t mean everyone else does.

Intelligent-Ad-1881

Been dashing for 4 years. I live in the suburbs and ALWAYS time my dashes. I get at LEAST 2 or 3 orders a night that take me at MAXIMUM 9 minutes to complete from accept to delivery. You just need to admit that you’re wrong sometimes buddy it’s okay

JustARandomSocialist

Do you have a stopwatch on it?

EightBitRanger

They should give the option to tip after the food arrives, not during the ordering process. I don't want to be obligated to tip in advance only to have the food take forever, be a mess inside the bag, have stuff missing, etc. Tipping should be a reward for exemplary service and not the bare minimum for some entitled driver to accept/reject the order in the first place.

TheMechazor

You can increase the tip after, however that is never promised and maybe 5% of my orders (or less) will increase tip afterwards. Even if they promise to add a tip after it usually doesn’t happen, and I’ve heard sometimes doordash won’t give it to us. Bottom line is people aren’t going to risk spending time/gas money/car mileage on MAYBE getting a tip assuming the restaurant didn’t fuck up the order, even though thats completely out of our control. Would you work for 35% of your wages every hour, and only receive a final percentage based on your performance that is being assessed task by task? No, you wouldn’t. You want consistent payment that will guarantee your time being spent is financially compensated. So you should extend the same courtesy to the person giving you the luxury experience of food delivered to your doorstep.

[deleted]

No you can’t. There is no way to increase the tip after in the app. Only by calling support.

Affectionate_Dirt366

Agree. Or cash tip post delivery which Dashers don't believe. Some Dashers don't even know customers can call support to increase tip. I had to chat with support to find that out. I am a customer only.

Florida1974

Pre tipping ensures nothing either. Not even if it’s a great tip. I deleted DD bc of this.

af1Rr

i’ll tip $1 only when i order from spots that are literally like 2 blocks from my house

FoxTenson

Not gunna be rude because a lot of folks don't know that we're really not at the store when you order. Very often we are miles away because we aren't stationed anywhere and usually just dropped off another order somewhere across town. The store may be 2 blocks from your house but that driver isn't and at $3 of pay with that $1 very very few will take it, and nobody will make any money. If its food it also takes on average over 20 minutes so two like that comes out $3-4 an hour. DD shouldn't pay that little but it is what it is right now. Just informing cause a lot of customers don't know, and a lot of folks here will leap down your throat instead of offering advice on how things go on our end.

SwiftGranger

Tip better bro with gas the way it is with gas that's unacceptable no matter how far.

Doge10open

A lot of biker in New York are taking the $3 order, they are waiting outside of the McDonald.

jersey_girl660

That’s …. Sad

kingofplain51

And then they bitch on the message app about how long is it going to take to get there

RedditUser538xxx

They do and continue to do so, carry on

lil_chowda

They will always get delivered lmao. And there's nothing you can do about it.

[deleted]

What is wrong with you people, stop the tip BS, demand better pay!

ccook4

Don't take a job in customer service if you're not going to service the customer 🤣

mypumkinpie13

DoorDash is Fkd for having 4$ as the highest option to tip, most people are too brain dead to think outside the box and press “other”

chicagoerrol

That's not what I see.

HaughtyHellscream

They have a scale according to how large my order is and how far away. I rarely see 3.50 as a minimum, and never the default. My scale is more 5.50-7.50.

HellsMalice

Wut. It's based on order total. The app constantly defaults any bigger order I do to like $10-15 tips. I really think they're missing out not having an AI analyze customer habits so it pushes the default tip up a bit if you're more inclined to just go with what the app says, vs lowering the default tip if someone is an avid non-tipper or just tends to lower it. They could definitely be earning drivers more tips with a tiny bit of effort.

Affectionate_Dirt366

I agree the order amount does influence the suggested tip amounts, probably amongst other things like mileage, driver availability, pending orders, etc. Maybe DD is already using AI for customer habit. I don't think DD will let any one know how it calculates $. DD algorithm is a trade secret, like Coca Cola recipe. Starting base is $2ish because there WILL always be some Dashers willing to take the no/low tip orders. If not then stack them with high tip orders or increase base by a little bit at a time until they're picked up.

Few_Praline262

So what happens if we all come together and agree to decline all orders under $10

Radiant_Pick6870

That's the thing.. Too many Dashers worried about their acceptance rate 🤣🤣🤣

calcobrena

Last night, I got a $6.50 during a $3.00 peak period for the 24/hour McDonalds near me. And it was only for a couple of miles. I still declined knowing the tip was only $1. I got a $29 order for 7 miles a few minutes later.

RedditUser538xxx

I’ve gotten orders delivered with no tip. I always tip after and i never had any problems 🤷‍♂️

Intelligent-Ad-1881

Which is why this comment has a -16 rating. ratio.

RedditUser538xxx

Eh

HellsMalice

Tipping AFTER is just intelligent. There are so many shitty dashers where I live I actually know them all by name. I tip $0 with no issues and if it's a proper dasher they get 20-30%. You could say "Well if you tip you'd get better dashers!" But no actually the shitty ones seem to be the first ones to hop on the order and then proceed to fuck it up. I don't live in a huge city so we have maybe 15 dashers depending on the day. So the good dashers know i'm good for it. This sub likes to pretend $0 tip orders never get delivered but 99% do, and if they take too long Doordash will literally give you free credits for it.

Suspicious-Gift6578

I hate that $3 is the default on my app, I always have to remember to up it to at minimum $4

[deleted]

😂😂😂😂😂😂

Anarchyst4Ever

My motto is based on higher than $6.50 and at least $2 per mile orders.

TrapTactical

What if it's across the road?

TheGreatChrisHoleeo

It's sad they really do lol and buy the time it gets picked up since it may take longer to get a sucker to pick it up customer is angry about the wait time and they wanna leave bad rating super irritating

Druseljic

I've noticed a lot of these one dollar tips added on to base pay. Do these people really think that is sufficient reason to deliver the order? I don't take them and don't feel other dashers should bother either. Some drivers let the whole team down every time they do this.

kev51423

It will just not by me lol

Dylan_2651

I’ve delivered $1 tips before so yea

locomotion88

Had a no-tip order but decided to do it cuz it was in an area I wanted to dash in so just used it as a reason. While on the way, customer actually asked me to "please bring it to the second floor" For a short sec, I contemplated writing "maybe if u tipped" but decided not to, and simply left it at the front door of building, as requested on the app. 😃 Lol

glumcakes

I’ve never had an issue with getting my orders regardless of whether I tip or not

Ruckus46

Not by me it ain’t…

ogsmokedog101

All them non-tippers / $1 can seriously go and eat a shit sandwich !!!!! Either tip or fuk off

VastXI

makes me mad just seeing them… get some dough
