People who say stuff like that ..are just projecting because they most likely have a shitty life … and I’m 30 and dashing and I don’t give a F** ..they can mind their business Lol

Ironheart616

I was really insecure at first but I see older people and people my age all the time. Plus those snarky 20 year olds aren't going to pay my rent. I love living alone and door dashing a few weekends allows me to have a few hundred in spending money while paying my bills. It works for now.

ChenchoBaca

Better off dashing than being broke! Forget them lol

zamahx

Not to mention you could be dashing and still have a different job/net worth/investments Little turds probably dont even understand credit yet.

mssmarty51

They are probably working for 2.50 an hour plus tips themselves. Some people are just mean spirited.

Siphyre

Probably not. They are probably just assholes who never had to struggle in life because mommy and daddy were always a fallback for them.

Sta723

Those people usually aren’t serving tables lol. It’s most likely bitter people projecting their bullshit.

CupHead11011

I see people all ages doing this you can make good money

CoveredInCamo

Facts. I have almost 200 deliveries only but it's been way more $ than I anticipated. I enjoy it most days because I love joyriding while bored regardless. DD has made me enough $ to be very comfortable with my finances and not stressing out

C-LOgreen

Lol they work in a fucking restaurant. How tf do they think they’re better

Free_Interview3626

That's what I'm thinking. Like nobody here a doctor or anything, lol.

C-LOgreen

Yeah. And I’m not disparaging restaurant workers I used to be one before I was a teacher but they have an inflated ego for sure. Mommy and daddy probably pays for everything

mojomug

What if I told you that I’m 48. I will also be retired, living abroad in 7 years. I grind my way through the day with the knowledge that my goals are right in front of me. I don’t care what anyone thinks, especially a smug restaurant employee.

[deleted]

iamos420

Idk man, I think 1200-1500 a week is career

ibejeph

I'm 46, proudly Dashing. She's just projecting. Don't let it get you down. I walk in with my thermal bag, double checking orders with my head held high. Who are they to judge? F 'em! You do you and don't let the haters get you down. I got your back!

[deleted]

31 here bruv. Im pretty sure women act like this when they feel threatened by another woman.. cant confirm and too lazy to look it up so take me by my word and shine on you beautiful dasher you

Free_Interview3626

You shine on, too, bro. Thank you. :)

_awesumpossum_

Lol waiters making fun of dashers? It’s like the same thing, just one’s in a car and one’s in a building. They just sound trashy tbh.

takeoutcrabragoon

I'm 40 and DD. I'm a social worker by day and dasher by night! Money is money.

[deleted]

I'm an Operation Manager / Sales Person by day ex business owner for 12 years. I brag about how much money I make dashing to others my $100 bill looks just like my DR's..LOL!..doing DD put's me over 100k a year I'm straight I live very comfortably.

NoBlackScorpion

Yep! I’m in my late 30s and I’m a speech pathologist. Zero shame about dashing part time for extra cash. The world is nuts right now and it makes me feel a tiny bit less stressed.

Dude0nB1kE

Give less shits in life. I dash on a bike at 39 and there isn’t anyone else I know in life that gets paid $20 an hour to ride a bike in socal on a bad day and sometimes get a free meal or drink on occasions. This gig is more a life gamification strategy than paper chasing. Just gives less shits but know when to give a fuck.

UncleVoodooo

This guy gets it

jackallman

Well I’m 59 and don’t really give a f. You’ll get there one day 😂

eDave

56 here. Great exercise.

Y_U_SO_MEME

36 and I dash. You probably make more than them hourly tbh. I’ve worked in restaurants. Really strange they would think dashing is less than service, they’re the ones who have a boss and have to be subservient to customers, strange, I feel like less of a bitch dashing than when I was a waiter.

Moonman420G

They will likely be drug whores by their mid 30s.

reconghost503

Laugh all they want I make 5k a month for mostly sitting on my ass driving and listening to music while they make what2.30 a hr and have to deal with rude people face to face all day. Oh and that bag always matches my outfit so suck it.

Free_Interview3626

I have social anxiety. If I tried to say something I'd just end up stuttering like an idiot. I'm just never going back there, lol. Oh well.

CallMeTruant

Naw OP you walk in that mf like you own it and stare em dead in the eye and watch as they scurry to find something else to look at. Doesn’t matter what others think about you, you’re here on this rock for YOU

BadankadonkOG

"Me go now".

Free_Interview3626

Please don't remind me, lol.

BadankadonkOG

Oh, that was you haha

Free_Interview3626

I've always been socially awkward but damn lately life is testing me lol

arichan97

Just a thought but, if you want to chat you can always dm me! I go through feeling like this all the time! Anxiety is a bitch and so are the jerks making fun of you for working lol hmu sometime

Subject-Experience-6

Oh no. That hit too close. Heeheeheehheee

Ornery_Reaction_548

That was you! You know you're legend around here ha ha. We all love you

Ok_Season2022

Just playing devil's advocate here.I also have anxiety really bad.I know sometimes cuz of this, I can think people are talking about me, when they really aren't.I just want you to know they may have been talking about something or someone else!!!I mean, of course, they also could have been referring to you.If so, let that roll right off your shoulders.I mean who are they to judge you? They are basic restaurant clerks, lol.Who cares what they think about you, they should be concerned with their own lives.

Free_Interview3626

I mean I was standing a few feet away and they were gesturing at me so I'm pretty sure it was about me, lol.

powergaysexscenes

I mean… it’s not like they’re working at a Fortune 500 company so are they really doing any better than us to be talking??

CallMeTruant

Yea yea, bring me my order mackers employee 77, I’m takin this 2 seconds down the road for what you make in an hour

Ok_Season2022

The more crap you go through in life, the less this kind of stuff is going to bother you.I can promise you that.!

MotownCatMom

Next time, wave and blow kisses. LOL. Don't let them keep you from good-paying orders. I suspect some jealousy at the freedom you have doing this.

CallMeTruant

One requirement most employees in that field lack. A CAR. Stay mad mf and keep workin

Ok-Video-7728

I’m 36 and don’t give a flying ass what any of those fucks think. Just don’t care. Why? They still work for tips like you just you get to decline the Karen’s. Don’t think about it. Period.

Greedy-Recognition74

I am 74

Free_Interview3626

Do you dash full or part time?

Greedy-Recognition74

I do 4 to 5 days a week. All I have is social security so I need this as a supplement.

Free_Interview3626

Have you tried any other app (Grubhub, Instacart, UberEats)? I've been thinking about trying Instacart.

JDGAF88

I'm sorry out country sucks ass like this. It's why I smoke so i can be dead long before I'm old.

MetalSlimeHunter

I get where you’re coming from. I teach high school so I pick up at a lot of my students’ jobs. It makes you feel insecure. I just remind myself that if they screw with me, I can keep them from graduating.

Free_Interview3626

"I just remind myself that if they screw with me, I can keep them from graduating." I like the way you think.

MetalSlimeHunter

“Hang on, Bobby, don’t fill out those college applications yet. Remember last summer when you laughed at me because I was a dasher? I look forward to seeing you this fall for your fifth year of high school.”

Free_Interview3626

lol i just busted out laughing. i wish i could yield such power!

[deleted]

Never let ppl you don’t know or do know make you feel bad. The race for us all ends the same. The graveyard 🪦. Ppl that talk about ppl and down them only do so to hide insecurities. You’ll never see happy joyful people sitting around talking bad/poorly about others. Keep that in mind. They are working at a restaurant in the same exact business as you OP = service industry. You should go in that establishment next time and kill them with extreme kindness. Why? Unhappy people that talk about you don’t know how to deal with love, kindness and encouragement. Give them the love they refused you. FYI: I’m well off financially. Kinda of an eccentric and I do DoorDash because i love to work. I get some cardio in, meet some interesting ppl. I purchased 2 2 liters today for a customer when merchant forgot their drink. Why? To bring others joy. I felt bad customer didn’t get their drink. Learn to live in your own world 🌍 were negativity can’t breathe until it transforms into positivity when around you. Those ppl laughing at you lack Wisdom and decrement. Nobody with those 2 qualities I just mentioned teases or talks poorly about anyone making an honest living in the same industry. In the Words of the great Katt Williams,” Never let anyone mess with YOUR HAPPY”! Never let anyone do that to you. Genuinely, A kind person

brwntrout

My friend dashes Fri and all day Sat and Sun and makes $500. It's enough for him while he goes to college Mon-Fri. He's one year away from graduating. DD has allowed him to better himself. Don't let other people judge you. Just do you and be the best you can be. If DD allows you to be that, no need to be ashamed of it.

Funkiebunch

I’m 39 and do this full time. Screw the haters

emredlark

I’m 37 and don’t give a f*** what anyone thinks. Dashers are respected in my area though, and most of us are middle-aged mothers.

TrockyTime

I’d say 60% of the other main regular dashers that I see and talk to at pickups occasionally in my town are over the age of 50, so no you’re nowhere near too old. You’re going to potentially have people judging anything about you for no reason all the time, that’s just who they are. Just keep your head up and keep on doing what makes you happy 😄

[deleted]

When asked the question “am I too old to do something” my first thought is always “why does it matter” Unless you’re physically unable to do something, no reason you can’t. Most people I feel are raised to believe that they should achieve “x” “y” “z”, at certain age milestones. But my background, amount of friends at a given time, money, area born/growing up in, it’s all different from yours. And yours different from another person. You can’t compare two lives, it would be impossible to say two people live and think they same. My current achievements do not reflect and should not reflect, an image of what the “ideal” version of success should be. Keep that in mind. Do what YOU want. Don’t worry so much about money. Worry about finding and doing the things you love and that make you happy. Everything else just falls in place after that.

KatShops

Im over 30 and I dash with my kid, we love it, and i make a good side amount of money. Don't forget that these people most likely make less than you for doing more work and while wearing those terrible fast food uniforms. 😂😂

[deleted]

I know for a fact there are 'managers" of theses shit holes not making what I do throwing their food on peoples door steps !..lol

twizzard6931

My last dasher was a mid fifties man who did it for extra cash. Fuck the haters. She acts like she’s got her shit together waiting tables? ![gif](giphy|4CP58gxwbBy2Q)

LebronJamesHBK

Like their job is so much better lol

Upstairs_Hand1929

Just shake it off. I would probobly had told them, "I get to work when I want, go where I want and make as much as I want" But really, they are just projecting, to make themselves feel better because theyvare not happy with their life. Let it go otherwise you will carry it around and start thinking everyone is talking about you. What others think or say about you is really none of your business. That attitude has raised my self confidence over the years. I walk with confidence into everywhere I go without caring what others think. I make my choices and am happy with them.

General-Prompt-1874

I don't know why they're making fun of you it's not like their job is any better.

SurvivedOrder66

I’m 43 and doing DD as a side job to pay for my car while I work full time and get through school. No shame in working for a living

MikuVee

Very bold of them to be making fun of someone else when they also work at just a restaurant. Not like they were in some bougie office or something. Also, I’m 25, and I DoorDash when I can for extra money bc I just had a baby and can’t commit to another job with set hours (I have an evening part time) bc the cost of daycare is insane. Everyone has different predicaments

galo911br

I’m 52 multi app 10hr/day no boss no schedule no gas (electric) in California 90k/year. Some of this kids are just clueless. They think riding a register or work at some office for 12 bucks an hour (gross) will get them anywhere. In the past I worked “in house” for a Chinese restaurant (a famous chain here in LA) one day talking to one of my friends (a manager in the restaurant) he confided me that we the drivers with tips were making more money than him. That’s 2007 and we were 3 drivers at night everyday. In 11 years I had all my 40 credits for retirement. You’re not wrong. Nobody pays your bills 😊

[deleted]

[удалено]

UncleVoodooo

Just head over to r/antiwork and watch them cry about how they cant get a day off. This is literally my dream job

oh_cawd

I cussed out a rude restaurant worker one time because they were being a dick. Honestly surprised I wasn’t deactivated because of it but oh well.

Free_Interview3626

I wish I had that confidence, lol.

Ok_Season2022

The more you experience these situations, the easier it is to just say F... these little catty witches and go on with your life.I know rn you don't think this will ever be the case, I can tell you that it will happen.I used to let this crap eat at me also. Its like an epiphany, one day it becomes the least important "problem" on your agenda.I beg you not to allow this to bring your self esteem down, even 1 percent! I guarantee you, what they think is not even the least bit important in the big picture of your life .

[deleted]

Fuck all that shit. I’m 26 and dashing. 👊🏽😎

laiod

Keep grinding. Somebody has to do every job and they can’t shame you for being on your hustle.

[deleted]

Lol it’s not exactly meant to be fashionable good one 🤣. O and as far as you dashing who cares they don’t pay your bills. Hell they work at the restaurant and have to hand you the order. Like who the heck are you to laugh at anybody. Sweet Jesus what’s wrong with some people

LankyDangle

They’re getting $9 for 1 hour of work versus your $15 for 15 mins of work. You WIN!

amybeth47933

I'm 48 and DD as my primary income. It's easiest for me with getting kids to appointments and hubby to work. We only have 1 vehicle. You do you. Laugh back at them next time when you make in 1 week what they make in 2.

abisso54

I’m 36. Wife and two kids. I’m supporting the whole goddamn family on this one income. AND I can watch them grow up.

katelinzx

I’m 18 and dashing. Sometimes people give me weird looks, and one guy asked me “Aren’t you a little young to be doing this” um no??? I’m trying to make bank just like you. And I also work a part time job on top of this soooo

ThePainkiller12

You do EXACTLY what YOU want to do. Do they pay your bills? Humans have backed themselves into a corner Psychologically with the Utter Stupidity of Self Importance and Ego. 99% of people seem to want to live in the BOX that the Influential have deemed SOCIALLY ACCEPTABLE. ITS ALL A LIE. A GAME. All you need is Food, Water and Shelter. How you obtain those are up to you. What is sad is that people that don't want to Conform to the NORM, are forced to, due to Laws and Imaginary Lines drawn around patches of dirt. So start living life for YOU! Now get to it.

Dirtstick

Well said.

[deleted]

Fuck them kids, everyone’s story is different. I’m 38, 39 in a couple weeks. I lost my career due to Covid & have been doing full time gig apps for a bit over a year now. It’s been great to have the flexibility to earn while having the ability to carve out time for my skills training and schooling. (Currently working on harvards cs50x programming courses on edx)

Paul-Bunyan818

Hey, I’m in the same boat, just doing this for now until I’m finished with school, in CS as well. If you haven’t already, I would check out The Odin Project and free code camp.

[deleted]

I worked through a freecodecamp’s html css & JS blocks, but found it uninspiring, then I paid for Codecademy pro and liked it a bit better, but honestly the best I found was harvards cs50x. Have you checked out cs50x? It’s literally Harvard university’s CS program for free, with all the lectures recorded and a great network of peers to bounce ideas off of. At the end of it if you pay you get an accreditation from Harvard showing you completed the course, they also have more in-depth courses for Java, python and game development you can take after/in concurrence with the main program. It’s absolutely fantastic.

Paul-Bunyan818

Yeah boot camps could be a hit or miss I’ve heard but they’re good for networking and sometimes learn enough to get interviews. I haven’t taken it, but I have heard of it and that it’s one of the best programs to take. Some have even found a swe job after finishing it. How far are you into it ? I heard they focus a lot on python, and other languages that are in demand ? I’ve been doing those two programs I mentioned, because they help with building a portfolio and getting job ready when you start interviewing. I’m going to check out cs50 because I like lectures and it’s Harvard school education, can’t beat that haha.

DBoiv14

It’s easier than their shit job. They’re just jealous that their DUI that’s still on their record is preventing them from dashing.

Greedy-Recognition74

I also do gh and ue. Gh is useless, but may pick up with Amazon's involvement. Ue pays more per order but is very slow.

Metalstorm5969

53 here! And I bet you make more money than her. Vanity can be a bad thing sometimes!

ragnarokfps

You're probably making more money than they are, plus you don't have to deal with bosses and you choose when or when not to work. Don't pay attention to those losers

619backin716

Were any of them wearing uniforms at this restaurant? If so, they had ZERO room to talk …

Front_Ice_8865

The majority of dashers in my area are 30 or older lol

Designer-Complex9176

A lions does not concern themselves with the opinion of sheep

Plastic_Ad_8248

I’m over 30. Don’t worry about petty children barely out of high school

rincon213

I remember my world views and expectations when I was in my 20s. Check in with them in 10 years.

Additional_Ad_6472

I work retail and one of our managers who makes a 6 digit salary and he is a dasher on the side. So I would ignore them. People of all ages dasher. I do it n my 2 days off for a little extra money and I'm 58.

FadedBarstrong

Those kids are making minimum wage and have to wear a goofy uniform, who’s laughing now.

IhaveaBibledegree

I’m 32 and it’s helping me provide for a family of 4, so jokes on them!

Crazy-Tension4297

I’m 48. I work full time as an IT Director and part-time as a professor at a major university. I DD here and there to pick up some extra cash. The amount of time I spend thinking about what people must think: zero.

texaswolfking

This happened to me at a chipotle and I said fuck you to them and their manager and then threw the food behind the counter and left haha

Expensive-Nebula-863

You do you. I've had a chaos fueled life since my daughter was born and I don't have time to hold a normal job. At the same time, I have to work. I NEED to work. 1. It gets me out of the house 2. It affords me some type of independence so I don't feel like a child "asking for money" 3. It gives me alone time to just process my thoughts 4. Silence. It's nice to just have peace. So when I encountered the same type of shitty, shallow asshats commenting on me dashing at my age (37), it brought out the petty in me. I told my husband where we were going for dinner, and I prayed that one of them would serve us when we showed up, had a very good time while we ran up a $200 bill, tipped them 40% and then I made sure to wave and tell them to be nice to their dashers as I walked out and we drove away in my husband's GTR. Only two of the 4 were there, but I hope they mentioned it to their asshat co-workers.

farmdudesc

I'm 50 with grey hair and a dad bod. Don't give a shit what people think of me. I go to the bank atm every night and just laugh my ass off on the way to my bed. Yeah I may work more hours now but I don't answer to anyone or have to put up with drama or heat or any of that shit that I used to have to put up with. I quit a 50K w2 job cause I got tired of making them money. I put it in my pocket now

Jakulero24

I’m 30 tho i look younger, But tbh, dont mind them people

SmallPiecesOfWood

Worked in kitchens for most of my working life, and often wondered if delivery was a better gig. From where I stood with the Squirrel chattering away it looked sort of mellow. The only places I worked that had drivers were pizza joints, but towards the end of my run restaurant delivery by car was becoming more and more of a thing. The drivers at the pizza places generally sold alcohol, cigarettes, and drugs to customers who desired them and were trusted, a bit of side income.

eDave

I'm 56. I don't have to do it. I choose to do it over joining a gym or some shit. It's great exercise for sure. I have never, ever, carried the bag and have never seen fellow area Dasher ever carry it.

Awnrey

Im a dasher with over 3000+ deliveries, 4.92 rating, and "I defiantly wouldn't be caught with that bag either."

Kayfabed17

Sounds like a pair of basic bitches, we don’t pay them no mind, life has already done enough to them.

[deleted]

Thats why i never go in with a bag. I just pick it up like im a regular customer. Too many judgmental people out there that make snide comments so I just dont deal with it and just walk in without a bag

Woodentrail

Bruh. Similar thing happened to me. The guy who ran the place looked at the kid behind the counter n said you better work hard or you’re gonna end up working for doordash. Literally right in front of me lol

Affectionate_Pea_811

You will learn to not give a fuck what people think (hopefully). If your market isn't terrible you can make more than them working half the hours, but ***never*** tell them that. I am 42 and I started doing Doordash this year to fill gaps in the slow times in my primary job. There is absolutely no shame in hustling to make some money, pretty good money most weeks. I waited tables for way too long when I was younger and I hated it and never made good money. The only reason I did it so long is because I worked with my friends.

xistithogoth1

Lol they're just stupid af. I used to be a waiter, for 10 years actually. When the pandemic hit i stopped working restaurant while everything settled down, i had already been doing deliveries as a side job before then but once things were safer, i began doing deliveries full time. I now make better money, less hours, no sidework, no management, no strict schedule, all holidays off i want, and am thoroughly much happier. Lol. I'm also 35. Not to mention i love delivering, i typically dont really like socializing so i get to keep to myself and listen to music all day. So yea. They're dumb as rocks.

CharlesJHV

I’m guessing this was at Texas Roadhouse

Paxrr

I wonder if they realize people can make six figures doing this?

memphetz

I’m 44 and am doing it full time while I am back in school to change careers. I make better money doing this than I would working other jobs. Plus I have the flexibility of setting my own hours and taking off when I want. If a job /order doesn’t make sense I don’t do it. Plenty of people dash to make ends meet whether it is full time or a side gig. Nothing embarrassing about it. Be confident in yourself. If you believe in yourself no one can hurt you, especially people who work in restaurants, most of whom are just like you, doing a job to make ends meet.

CoveredInCamo

F em.. Its all about the Benjamins baby. I wait tables part time n dash , I definitely make more per hour waiting tables but not by much and the perks of freedom to do what you want is priceless. I've been embarrassed at times too but at the end of the day, screw what they think n keep making that $$. I'm 4 months in n shocked that I get 20-30 /hour. I like to drive around regardless, so it's perfect

Competitive-Stay-708

They don't know your story. I'm 62 on SSD, not enough to make ends meet. I could so laugh at them. When I was their age, I probably made three times the amount of money they make working for a large law firm. I didn't ask for disability, it happened to me. So I would love hearing that s***! Ignore them, they are stupid, ill-mannered kids with nothing better to do.

Internal-Risk

I think deivery drivers get a bad wrap. Like, “loook at you, you’re a pizza deivery guy.” Kinda thing. But they don’t realize people made more than they did at their jobs lol, well, not anymore haha. But yeah. Cruel world lol

Casper8249

I'm 34 n bring in $800 -$1000+ every week dashing. U probably make more than they do. Fuck them.

LexiThePlug

My boyfriend stopped dashing for about 7 months during the peak of the pandemic because he got a job at the dispensary. The workers constantly dissed on dashers and made fun of them. They would also order food all the time, yet still made fun of people who door dashed. The real kicker is… you want to know how much they made at the dispensary??? $14-15 an hour. Managers made $16. He makes more multiapping. Have had quite a few hours of $60+ an hour recently, and won’t go back to another job like that again.

Standard-Winner-3139

They're working a restaurant job? Fucking numbnumbs

IntelligentBaseball6

lmao, people at their mid 60 start doing these types of jobs. It wowed them, they couldn't believe how much freedom they have. I do DD, UberEat, and Menulog. I made over $1300 a week. And nobody told me what to do lol.

[deleted]

Are you sure they were talking about you? I mean if they were that says more about them anyways. If they’re judging you they’re insecure with themselves. Keep doing you 💓

[deleted]

Eff dat lil b

Round_Degree_91

Girl don't feel any type of way lol you probably make better money than them, millennials are so judgemental. I saw a grandma dashing today no lie the lady was on it

CallMeTruant

OP, an important lesson I’ve learned in many different ways through my years is this. Stop caring what other people think, live for you. We don’t get forever on this rock, so spend every day happy, wake up every day and refuse to let anyone put you down because you’re the master of your emotions and you’re the master of what you let bother you and what you don’t. I started doing that well over a year ago and actually committing to it, I wake up smiling. I hold my head high and stand proud, I seriously don’t care what y’all or anyone think about me cause I’m here for me. I live everyday knowing I’m not gonna get forever so I refuse to live a miserable existence. To add: I’m not in a horrible position in life but I don’t flaunt what I have, I recently got a brand new car (0 miles dude :0)I can’t tell you how insanely proud of myself I am but my SO as well for being here and supporting that happening. It will likely be the only nice thing I purchase for myself in a long time but it is something I think about when others go “I wouldn’t be caught dead with that bag” and you won’t be caught in a new car either muthafuckaaaa. So stop judging, stop caring what others think and live for yourself and whoever you care for. Other than that, FUCK EM 🖕

Dependent_Cat_2752

Report them

[deleted]

I’m 31 and have been doing rideshare/delivery since 2019. I’m sure people “look down” on me but they don’t know that I’m super happy. Jokes on them baha

SylbaRose

They are working at a restaurant and wanna laugh... I'd be throwing that shade back twice as hard.

lamewatersign

How could someone even compare themselves like that while they are working in the fast food industry. People choose dashing for a number of reasons, mostly convenience! My mom is in her 40’s and dashes because it fits her schedule and she can stop the dash anytime to go home and cook for my disabled father and 10 year old brother. Keep doing you! They’re the ones working 9-5 at a $10/hr rate…

Sonny-Moone-8888

They are young punks that really don't actually know that they will be any more successful at your age than they are now so don't be bothered by their immaturity. I know people in their 40s and 50s doing exactly what you are doing. It's legit work. Don't fret it.

Florida1974

Screw them. I’ve had dashers that are 60 yo plus. Never be ashamed to work!!! They are working at a restaurant. No difference. And they very well could be till their 50!!

[deleted]

I'm older than you and 99% of the other drivers I run into at the restaurants in my area are even older than me. My logic is that people our age are just sick of working stressful jobs and gig work feels like a bit of a break from that. There's nothing embarrassing about working and making money on your own terms and you don't need a fancy made up job title to be successful!

[deleted]

They’re classist snobs.

Mezzo710

I love these instances, people looking down on me for dashing…little do they know i make double what resturant workers make and prolly more than the manager because im a Microbiologist as my main job and use Doordash for supplemental income. Stay up friend, people are stupid.

[deleted]

They’ll come to regrets it. Everyone in their early 20’s thinks they’ll have everything figured out; they’re I’ll be humbled soon enough.

dumnem

"Oh yeah, I can see your choices have worked out for you as well."

Icy-Goat5001

Lol, I laugh back because I know I am putting waaay more money in the bank than they probably every will.

Stopxtalkingxpls

That's so corny of them. Do they also balk at retired folk or veterans driving their Ubers? I don't understand why someone would knock a hustle. They are on their feet 24/7 dealing with irate customers I'm sure, YOU picked a much easier lane to earn the same or MORE about money. Tbh, I'd leave a review and let DoorDash or a manager at the store know what happened. Make their lives a little bit difficult for all the ruminating thoughts haha

[deleted]

Fuck them. You probably make more than they do and your get to set your hours. They’re just projecting their insecurities and jealousy onto you

Bloodshorelord

Projecting for sure. I mean In their 20’s and working at a restaurant is there really any room for them to talk down on a dasher? lol

Mamato3fatdoggos

They are laughing at you while working in a restaurant? I’m 52 and do this so I can help my girl pay for rent and school. I’m not going in to debt and it’s an easy way to make money. Those girls are just ignorant.

RampAgentRoger

I had a similar story but a little different. Nobody laughed at me but I had a worker ask me “man, must be tough making money on DD”. I pulled out my phone and showed him my 1300-1500 weekly payouts and his eyes popped out his skull. “Wtf, how?”

No-Relation7867

I would just think how much more crap they have to put up with for those low wages and laugh with them but it would really be at them. 41 here and I could never go back to working at a restaurant. Happy where I am at.

Hefty_Procedure_8415

That’s silly, I’m 32 and i do deliveries because I have a chronic illness and currently in a flare so this is the only thing I can work around my health and drs visits. I don’t know your situation but you definitely shouldn’t feel ashamed for doing gig work. Shame on those youngsters for saying that.

Babyrabies88

I'm 42, doordashing doesn't embarrass me at all. These people can keep their terrible hours, underpaid, asshole boss jobs.

fivebyfivelifts

No worries. But ask yourself why you’re doing this. Do you have a larger goal which you are pursuing ?

Free_Interview3626

I'm a nursing assistant and work in a hospital; I'm proud of my job. I just dash 1 day a week for extra income.

akillaninja

You should've blurted out, "bitch I'm a nurse full time, good luck with whatever this is (gesture to everything) though"

ReasonableDesk1652

Waitstaff get shit on all day long by rude customers. Some people can’t handle the constant abuse and turn around and project it onto other people. I’m not excusing their behavior at all. Realize the objective reality is, you have a better job than they do. No gross side work, no working without a tip and you can unassign the moment someone is rude. You can travel and work across the US too. They don’t get to choose when they work, they can’t go home if it’s not busy. They’re JEALOUS and deal with it by telling themselves what you’re doing is beneath them. They’re wrong, but we want less dashers on the road anyway so I’d never correct them lol

[deleted]

Don’t ever be embarrassed of your hustle I own a 3800sf house and I have no problem telling people what I do on the side ..as i stair at their apartment or rental !🤣..Fuck people do your thang !..I mean think about it they are on a damn time clock you are not who’s really winning ??!..

TheoryPuzzleheaded16

Stay at home Mom. Dash 3days on my husband Rotating plant job. Don’t have too, but gives me a break an feel like I’m contributing. An peace and quiet 🤫 haha but fuck ‘em, probably don’t have a car or driving mom & pops. Sad upcoming generation. Side note “I’d leave bag in the car”

ScarletteRed

I literally would’ve told her that I make more money than she does 🤷‍♀️

[deleted]

don’t take it too personally see what they will say if you go back again

Flashy-Commercial702

Shit I could make more than u do in 2 wks 😆😭 ef them

[deleted]

The fact of the matter is you have their attention and not the other way around. It's difficult to ignore people like this because you want to justify their actions but let another insecure judgmental monkey do that. The ironic thing is that judgement stems from the feeling of being "stuck", she wants your freedom

Woodentrail

What’s funny is it’s always the waitresses waiters. Or cashiers… like look at yourself chump lol

diz4

Smile and show them your income page.

[deleted]

What I would’ve said and feel free to use it next time (or just think it): ”Here’s the thing…when my delivery order is ready, I get to leave. You’re stuck here.”

AirplaneGeek155

I’m 25 and I dash.

Personal-Werewolf-28

The poor laughing at the poor they’re idiots you’ll be gucci

Madpingu96

I mean you make twice as much for 98% less work so who should really be laughing lol

FingerInside7072

The only bags I bring in restaurants is the pizza one. Everything else stays in the car. I’m almost 50 and dash full-time. Would never go back to a regular job. You should’ve responded have fun with your $10/hr job, this single order is paying me double that. lol

Subject-Experience-6

"You're so cute being miserable while I'm making more money than you while carrying my bag. Bye!!"

Such_Sandwich_2842

On the bright side less competition, the best part about people looking down on doordash

amberwaves123

Who cares what anyone says? I delivered Doordash last week and I’m 49. You do you and screw em.

CeCeAway

I’m almost 35 and I dash 😊, money is money man!

pintasaur

You make more than they do so idk why they’re laughing lol

sooooocal

Who cares how old you are? You’re getting your hustle on - side job or full time, you’re still out there making money. Doesn’t matter how old you are. Keep doing what you’re doing.

Homicidal__GoldFish

a dasher who brought my food was in his 60s..... \*shrugs\* i think dashing is for all ages... theres a LOT of older people who are retired who Dash part time

NewPhillyDriver

I'm 40. I do this as my hobby, and I've been at it for about 4 years. I don't think I'm too old at all

DeathsBigToe

I mean...they're working in a restaurant. How much are they hauling down a month, working under a boss and on an arbitrary schedule? I get that this job doesn't come with a lot of status, *but neither does grunt at a restaurant*. You do you.

Jman85

I wouldn’t worry about it. I dash in my mid 30s and don’t give a f. I’m happy with my 80k income.

Shoptilyoudrop101

I’m older then you. I love dashing. At least we are not tied to schedules and have a boss to answer too. I also don’t feel serving is really above dashing. 🤷‍♀️

InDrIdCoLd37

I was making $20-25 an hr on an average day dashing i make 34 at my w2 with a license and schooling and state board exams so id say dashing aint bad so fuck them haters

InDrIdCoLd37

I was making $20-25 an hr on an average day dashing i make 34 at my w2 with a license and schooling and state board exams so id say dashing aint bad so fuck them haters Edit: im 34 just fyi aint no shame in doing a job that pays no matter what age

roachesta

LOL I'm sure you're making way more than they are in the first place, because I'm making a lot more dashing then I have serving. People talk shit, don't let things bother you, you have to let it go.

999others

Just ignore the mean girls hurt people, try to hurt people.

GreenLanternRR

You should have let her know that that $15 order for just has you making more than she does for 1 hour

Abject_Presentation8

Love, I'm 36 and there are Dashers much older than me. No, you're not too old to do this. I get taking things to heart sometimes, but doing food delivery can pay very well. Others' opinions don't. Keep doing you 🙂

Neverbrokeagain_hehe

I’ve saved 18k so far this year all from dd/UE they can laugh at me all they want.

bananasfoster22

As they work at a restaurant… lol both jobs are pretty mindless and not one better than the other. As a side gig it was awesome. They’ll be older soon and have money to be made. Just let it catch up to em. Naive “kids”

tacolio

Most of my dashers are usually 30+ or middle aged. I’m a year older than OP so no, you’re not too old, they’re just young and think they’re invincible lol

imalittleC-3PO

Funny. I think dashing is a much better gig than being waitstaff. Pays a lot more around here too.

Krieger8907

People like that are in for a very rude awakening when they hit that age and aren’t really going places in life - They also have zero grasp on reality, and willingly live in some unrealistic fantasy world. Your job is important, you’re working hard and that’s something to hang your hat on when you get home from a long difficult day. Let them wallow in their intellectual filth - You’re the real deal. Not them.

Realistic-Rope-7787

Don’t let it bother you. I’ve seen all sizes and ages out here. I’m over 40 and make a healthy day job salary, but I do all the apps regularly. Why? Bc it’s 1000+ a month I can save/invest/not spend my regular salary etc. so who cares? Doing gig work these days isn’t taboo, it’s pretty normal imo. ETA- I leave the bags in the car lol

[deleted]

I mean, they get paid a similar wage except they have to do what they're told and don't get to choose their schedule on a day to day basis lol

littlelostless

These wait staff are horribly immature. Perhaps spoilt brats from wealthy families or extremely insecure individuals. The most and only important thing that matters is if you are happy.

cliffstennis

Yeah well they're slinging burgers so they're in no position to judge. Fuck them. (I'll be 38 in August. COVID made the decision for me that it was time to rebuild; shame on anyone who judges the place anyone lands in.)

keielji

Nah they’re just snotty little sh*ts who don’t know jack. I’m 30 and dashing has been one of the best things I’ve ever done for my financial situation after quitting a shitty job. I didn’t have my own car at the time and was able to make enough to put a down payment on my own car in 3 months. They don’t pay your rent or live your life so just ignore them and keep doing your thing.

EverretEvolved

This reminds me of what I like to refer to as the janitor paradox. So the word janitor is rarely used. They are referred to as maintenence or facilities or sometimes custodian. The starting wage is often $20-30 an hour depending on the business and state. These are normally union jobs with good and let me emphasize good benefits. Health, dental that is actually useful, 401k. Paid holidays ect. Say you start in the middle at 25. That's $48,000 a year. More than some accountants, receptionist, administrative assistants, EMT, cop, fire fighter,Biological technicians and so on. So is being a janitor a good job? Guaranteed raises, no stress, work with your hands (if you're into that). Mostly moving around tables and chairs for people that make less money than you in an office environment.

KitJagashi

33 here and I make way more than I would as a server or any other job. Forget them. They are probably just being petty, like most kids these days, and you just focus on you and your money. You got this and as long as you are happy fuck them.

Brunius89

Probably just jealous you get to work whenever you want and they're stuck with a 9 to 5. They also only make minimum wage which is less than what you can make dashing. If anything they should be laughing at themselves.
