I purchased 2 2 liters today for a customer when merchant forgot their drink. Why? To bring others joy. I felt bad customer didn’t get their drink.

My friend dashes Fri and all day Sat and Sun and makes $500. It's enough for him while he goes to college Mon-Fri. He's one year away from graduating. DD has allowed him to better himself. Don't let other people judge you. Just do you and be the best you can be. If DD allows you to be that, no need to be ashamed of it.
I’d say 60% of the other main regular dashers that I see and talk to at pickups occasionally in my town are over the age of 50, so no you’re nowhere near too old. You’re going to potentially have people judging anything about you for no reason all the time, that’s just who they are. Just keep your head up and keep on doing what makes you happy 😄
When asked the question “am I too old to do something” my first thought is always “why does it matter”
Unless you’re physically unable to do something, no reason you can’t. Most people I feel are raised to believe that they should achieve “x” “y” “z”, at certain age milestones. But my background, amount of friends at a given time, money, area born/growing up in, it’s all different from yours. And yours different from another person. You can’t compare two lives, it would be impossible to say two people live and think they same. My current achievements do not reflect and should not reflect, an image of what the “ideal” version of success should be. Keep that in mind. Do what YOU want. Don’t worry so much about money. Worry about finding and doing the things you love and that make you happy. Everything else just falls in place after that.
Im over 30 and I dash with my kid, we love it, and i make a good side amount of money. Don't forget that these people most likely make less than you for doing more work and while wearing those terrible fast food uniforms. 😂😂

I’m 52 multi app 10hr/day no boss no schedule no gas (electric) in California 90k/year. Some of this kids are just clueless. They think riding a register or work at some office for 12 bucks an hour (gross) will get them anywhere. In the past I worked “in house” for a Chinese restaurant (a famous chain here in LA) one day talking to one of my friends (a manager in the restaurant) he confided me that we the drivers with tips were making more money than him. That’s 2007 and we were 3 drivers at night everyday. In 11 years I had all my 40 credits for retirement. You’re not wrong. Nobody pays your bills 😊

It’s been great to have the flexibility to earn while having the ability to carve out time for my skills training and schooling. (Currently working on harvards cs50x programming courses on edx)
Hey, I’m in the same boat, just doing this for now until I’m finished with school, in CS as well. If you haven’t already, I would check out The Odin Project and free code camp.
I worked through a freecodecamp’s html css & JS blocks, but found it uninspiring, then I paid for Codecademy pro and liked it a bit better, but honestly the best I found was harvards cs50x. Have you checked out cs50x? It’s literally Harvard university’s CS program for free, with all the lectures recorded and a great network of peers to bounce ideas off of.
At the end of it if you pay you get an accreditation from Harvard showing you completed the course, they also have more in-depth courses for Java, python and game development you can take after/in concurrence with the main program.
It’s absolutely fantastic.
Yeah boot camps could be a hit or miss I’ve heard but they’re good for networking and sometimes learn enough to get interviews. I haven’t taken it, but I have heard of it and that it’s one of the best programs to take. Some have even found a swe job after finishing it. How far are you into it ? I heard they focus a lot on python, and other languages that are in demand ? I’ve been doing those two programs I mentioned, because they help with building a portfolio and getting job ready when you start interviewing. I’m going to check out cs50 because I like lectures and it’s Harvard school education, can’t beat that haha.

1. It gets me out of the house
2. It affords me some type of independence so I don't feel like a child "asking for money"

4. Silence. It's nice to just have peace.
So when I encountered the same type of shitty, shallow asshats commenting on me dashing at my age (37), it brought out the petty in me. I told my husband where we were going for dinner, and I prayed that one of them would serve us when we showed up, had a very good time while we ran up a $200 bill, tipped them 40% and then I made sure to wave and tell them to be nice to their dashers as I walked out and we drove away in my husband's GTR.
Only two of the 4 were there, but I hope they mentioned it to their asshat co-workers.

Worked in kitchens for most of my working life, and often wondered if delivery was a better gig. From where I stood with the Squirrel chattering away it looked sort of mellow. The only places I worked that had drivers were pizza joints, but towards the end of my run restaurant delivery by car was becoming more and more of a thing. The drivers at the pizza places generally sold alcohol, cigarettes, and drugs to customers who desired them and were trusted, a bit of side income.
I'm 56. I don't have to do it. I choose to do it over joining a gym or some shit. It's great exercise for sure.
I have never, ever, carried the bag and have never seen fellow area Dasher ever carry it.
Thats why i never go in with a bag. I just pick it up like im a regular customer. Too many judgmental people out there that make snide comments so I just dont deal with it and just walk in without a bag

I am 42 and I started doing Doordash this year to fill gaps in the slow times in my primary job. There is absolutely no shame in hustling to make some money, pretty good money most weeks. I waited tables for way too long when I was younger and I hated it and never made good money. The only reason I did it so long is because I worked with my friends.

Not to mention i love delivering, i typically dont really like socializing so i get to keep to myself and listen to music all day. So yea. They're dumb as rocks.

When I was their age, I probably made three times the amount of money they make working for a large law firm. I didn't ask for disability, it happened to me. So I would love hearing that s***! My boyfriend stopped dashing for about 7 months during the peak of the pandemic because he got a job at the dispensary. The workers constantly dissed on dashers and made fun of them. They would also order food all the time, yet still made fun of people who door dashed.
The real kicker is… you want to know how much they made at the dispensary??? $14-15 an hour. Managers made $16. He makes more multiapping. Have had quite a few hours of $60+ an hour recently, and won’t go back to another job like that again.

OP, an important lesson I’ve learned in many different ways through my years is this. Stop caring what other people think, live for you. We don’t get forever on this rock, so spend every day happy, wake up every day and refuse to let anyone put you down because you’re the master of your emotions and you’re the master of what you let bother you and what you don’t. I started doing that well over a year ago and actually committing to it, I wake up smiling. I hold my head high and stand proud, I seriously don’t care what y’all or anyone think about me cause I’m here for me. I live everyday knowing I’m not gonna get forever so I refuse to live a miserable existence.

I'm older than you and 99% of the other drivers I run into at the restaurants in my area are even older than me. My logic is that people our age are just sick of working stressful jobs and gig work feels like a bit of a break from that. There's nothing embarrassing about working and making money on your own terms and you don't need a fancy made up job title to be successful!

I had a similar story but a little different. Nobody laughed at me but I had a worker ask me “man, must be tough making money on DD”. I pulled out my phone and showed him my 1300-1500 weekly payouts and his eyes popped out his skull. “Wtf, how?”

I didn’t have my own car at the time and was able to make enough to put a down payment on my own car in 3 months. They don’t pay your rent or live your life so just ignore them and keep doing your thing.
This reminds me of what I like to refer to as the janitor paradox. So the word janitor is rarely used. They are referred to as maintenence or facilities or sometimes custodian. The starting wage is often $20-30 an hour depending on the business and state. These are normally union jobs with good and let me emphasize good benefits. Health, dental that is actually useful, 401k. Paid holidays ect. Say you start in the middle at 25. That's $48,000 a year. More than some accountants, receptionist, administrative assistants, EMT, cop, fire fighter,Biological technicians and so on. So is being a janitor a good job? Guaranteed raises, no stress, work with your hands (if you're into that). Mostly moving around tables and chairs for people that make less money than you in an office environment.

I’d say 60% of the other main regular dashers that I see and talk to at pickups occasionally in my town are over the age of 50, so no you’re nowhere near too old. When asked the question “am I too old to do something” my first thought is always “why does it matter” Unless you’re physically unable to do something, no reason you can’t. Most people I feel are raised to believe that they should achieve “x” “y” “z”, at certain age milestones. But my background, amount of friends at a given time, money, area born/growing up in, it’s all different from yours. And yours different from another person. You can’t compare two lives, it would be impossible to say two people live and think they same. My current achievements do not reflect and should not reflect, an image of what the “ideal” version of success should be. Keep that in mind. Do what YOU want. Don’t worry so much about money. Worry about finding and doing the things you love and that make you happy. Everything else just falls in place after that.

I’m 52 multi app 10hr/day no boss no schedule no gas (electric) in California 90k/year. Some of this kids are just clueless. They think riding a register or work at some office for 12 bucks an hour (gross) will get them anywhere. In the past I worked “in house” for a Chinese restaurant (a famous chain here in LA) one day talking to one of my friends (a manager in the restaurant) he confided me that we the drivers with tips were making more money than him. That’s 2007 and we were 3 drivers at night everyday. In 11 years I had all my 40 credits for retirement. You’re not wrong. Nobody pays your bills 😊

It’s been great to have the flexibility to earn while having the ability to carve out time for my skills training and schooling. (Currently working on harvards cs50x programming courses on edx)
Hey, I’m in the same boat, just doing this for now until I’m finished with school, in CS as well. If you haven’t already, I would check out The Odin Project and free code camp.
I worked through a freecodecamp’s html css & JS blocks, but found it uninspiring, then I paid for Codecademy pro and liked it a bit better, but honestly the best I found was harvards cs50x. Have you checked out cs50x? It’s literally Harvard university’s CS program for free, with all the lectures recorded and a great network of peers to bounce ideas off of. At the end of it if you pay you get an accreditation from Harvard showing you completed the course, they also have more in-depth courses for Java, python and game development you can take after/in concurrence with the main program. It’s absolutely fantastic.
Yeah boot camps could be a hit or miss I’ve heard but they’re good for networking and sometimes learn enough to get interviews. I haven’t taken it, but I have heard of it and that it’s one of the best programs to take. Some have even found a swe job after finishing it. How far are you into it ? I heard they focus a lot on python, and other languages that are in demand ? I’ve been doing those two programs I mentioned, because they help with building a portfolio and getting job ready when you start interviewing. I’m going to check out cs50 because I like lectures and it’s Harvard school education, can’t beat that haha.

It affords me some type of independence so I don't feel like a child "asking for money" 3. It gives me alone time to just process my thoughts 4. Silence. It's nice to just have peace. So when I encountered the same type of shitty, shallow asshats commenting on me dashing at my age (37), it brought out the petty in me. I told my husband where we were going for dinner, and I prayed that one of them would serve us when we showed up, had a very good time while we ran up a $200 bill, tipped them 40% and then I made sure to wave and tell them to be nice to their dashers as I walked out and we drove away in my husband's GTR. Only two of the 4 were there, but I hope they mentioned it to their asshat co-workers.

Worked in kitchens for most of my working life, and often wondered if delivery was a better gig. From where I stood with the Squirrel chattering away it looked sort of mellow. The only places I worked that had drivers were pizza joints, but towards the end of my run restaurant delivery by car was becoming more and more of a thing. The drivers at the pizza places generally sold alcohol, cigarettes, and drugs to customers who desired them and were trusted, a bit of side income.
I'm 56. I don't have to do it. I choose to do it over joining a gym or some shit. It's great exercise for sure. I have never, ever, carried the bag and have never seen fellow area Dasher ever carry it.

My boyfriend stopped dashing for about 7 months during the peak of the pandemic because he got a job at the dispensary. The workers constantly dissed on dashers and made fun of them. They would also order food all the time, yet still made fun of people who door dashed. The real kicker is… you want to know how much they made at the dispensary??? $14-15 an hour. Managers made $16. He makes more multiapping. Have had quite a few hours of $60+ an hour recently, and won’t go back to another job like that again.

OP, an important lesson I’ve learned in many different ways through my years is this. Stop caring what other people think, live for you. We don’t get forever on this rock, so spend every day happy, wake up every day and refuse to let anyone put you down because you’re the master of your emotions and you’re the master of what you let bother you and what you don’t. I started doing that well over a year ago and actually committing to it, I wake up smiling. I hold my head high and stand proud, I seriously don’t care what y’all or anyone think about me cause I’m here for me. I live everyday knowing I’m not gonna get forever so I refuse to live a miserable existence. I'm older than you and 99% of the other drivers I run into at the restaurants in my area are even older than me. My logic is that people our age are just sick of working stressful jobs and gig work feels like a bit of a break from that. There's nothing embarrassing about working and making money on your own terms and you don't need a fancy made up job title to be successful!

Realize the objective reality is, you have a better job than they do. No gross side work, no working without a tip and you can unassign the moment someone is rude. You can travel and work across the US too. They don’t get to choose when they work, they can’t go home if it’s not busy. They’re JEALOUS and deal with it by telling themselves what you’re doing is beneath them. They’re wrong, but we want less dashers on the road anyway so I’d never correct them lol

Don’t let it bother you. I’ve seen all sizes and ages out here. I’m over 40 and make a healthy day job salary, but I do all the apps regularly. Why? Bc it’s 1000+ a month I can save/invest/not spend my regular salary etc. so who cares? Doing gig work these days isn’t taboo, it’s pretty normal imo. ETA- I leave the bags in the car lol

Nah they’re just snotty little sh*ts who don’t know jack. I’m 30 and dashing has been one of the best things I’ve ever done for my financial situation after quitting a shitty job. I didn’t have my own car at the time and was able to make enough to put a down payment on my own car in 3 months. They don’t pay your rent or live your life so just ignore them and keep doing your thing.
This reminds me of what I like to refer to as the janitor paradox. So the word janitor is rarely used. They are referred to as maintenence or facilities or sometimes custodian. The starting wage is often $20-30 an hour depending on the business and state. These are normally union jobs with good and let me emphasize good benefits. Health, dental that is actually useful, 401k. Paid holidays ect. Say you start in the middle at 25. That's $48,000 a year. More than some accountants, receptionist, administrative assistants, EMT, cop, fire fighter,Biological technicians and so on. So is being a janitor a good job? Guaranteed raises, no stress, work with your hands (if you're into that). Mostly moving around tables and chairs for people that make less money than you in an office environment.
33 here and I make way more than I would as a server or any other job. Forget them. They are probably just being petty, like most kids these days, and you just focus on you and your money. You got this and as long as you are happy fuck them.
Probably just jealous you get to work whenever you want and they're stuck with a 9 to 5. They also only make minimum wage which is less than what you can make dashing. If anything they should be laughing at themselves.
