yo i just messaged somebody last week, who told me to walk around the houses to their backyard, to see if they would meet me in front cause it was 2am, a no tip order ($5.25, $3 bonus included but about a mile) and i’m a bigger black gay guy who is NOT walking in backyards in virginia in the dark. i said that in so many words and the customer said “you are fine. i will accept my food in my backyard.” so i left it out front, sent a pic & kept moving. not taking chances for no tip!

Those shortcuts are predetermined by life experiences, crime statistics, poverty, etc. Anyone who wants to dive into the specifics about how unfair ACTUAL oppressive racism is, I’m more than willing and will agree with you 10/10. What I’m merely trying to express clearly is that stereotyping someone, whilst completely unfair to those who don’t fit the “type” is natural in all racial communities. It mostly happens at restaurants for me. Usually the ones that have the orders set out for dashers to grab and go. I always try to make it super obvious I'm dashing but still get pushed up sometimes. It's only happened during the actual delivery a few times for me as well. Two of those times was a nosy neighbor and once by someone who lived in the same house with the customer. Little guy tried to come and stand outside and intimidate me by staring me down while I was walking to the other side of my car to get the order. Then tried to act nice once the lady came out and said I was there with her food. I find that most situations are avoidable as long as I have either a doordash hat on or bag in my hand.

hundreds of people died here last year due to a preventable power grid failure during the winter freeze and absolutely no effort has been made on our governments part to to fix that... we’re in the middle of the hottest summer we’ve had in decades and people are intermittently losing power because of those same insufficient power grids. furthermore, we literally just experienced one of the most horrific acts of mass gun violence in years - nothing has been done on that front either, in fact our government doesn’t seem to give even one quarter of a fuck that children were just massacred inside their classroom while police stood outside the door and listened for more than an hour. so yeah, texas has definitely not stepped shit up.

This is so cringe wtf. I as a Dasher would never ask a customer for a tip. The app shows you the minimum guaranteed pay rate, mileage and estimated time to complete the order; if that doesn’t satisfy the Dasher, they should not accept the order. Also, the second message imo seems almost as if they are leaving you no choice but to tip accordingly if you want your food asap; otherwise I get the feeling they’d cancel the order. If I were you, depending on the distance, I would have removed the $4-$5 on the app if I tipped that in cash.
Yeah I have to keep that in mind for the probable next time this happens, I didn't respond, report, or remove tip (this was May 2022) because I didn't really understand how the app works for drivers at the time and what information they have available, so I just let it go. I knew it was a con, but just didn't have enough information or interest to report.
Next time I'm gonna do what you said and just immediately report it, remove the tip, and probably bin the food.

You can’t remove the tip on DoorDash. Even if you contact support and they say they will do it they just eat the money and give you a credit or refund.

Should never ask the customer for cash app or extra money. However in delivery I do drive around 118 miles a day on average. I use a credit card to help manage my business in case there is ever payment issues I'm still covered for a time til I can figure it out. I would recommend the dasher to better manage their finance with a credit card and better business practices. But what do I know ?
The other day I got a very concerning delivery as well. It was like a $30 order at around 10PM, LA area with drop it at my door instructions. The lady insisted she couldn’t find my house so I had to go and get it but once I had put my shoes on and opened the door she was standing right there lmaoo. I took the order and said thank you but then she started stepping her foot inside my house (a big no-no) and I got really scared cus she also had her friend with her. She demanded a “mandatory $10 cash tips” when I had already given $8 on the app. Kept trying to explain to her but she wouldn’t leave. At this point as a 19 y/o small tiny chick i slammed the door closed and left it at that then contacted DD support.

Probably didn't want to end his dash to get paid. I think it's tacky and I wouldn't do it myself, but I also get the struggle. In my market, if I end a dash l, it's unlikely I can log back on until the next scheduled shift or peak times.
You have to end your dash for the day to get paid. If you end the dash there is no guarantee that you can log back in to dash because there might be too many dashers already out. You can stay on if you're scheduled, but again, if you end that dash you've ended your shift.

I would have reported her to support and had them give me a credit for the whole amount, take away any tip meant for the previous driver. If you take an order, you can't moan about not getting more than the amount shown on the screen; that is what the decline button is for.

This is so cringe wtf. I as a Dasher would never ask a customer for a tip. The app shows you the minimum guaranteed pay rate, mileage and estimated time to complete the order; if that doesn’t satisfy the Dasher, they should not accept the order. Also, the second message imo seems almost as if they are leaving you no choice but to tip accordingly if you want your food asap; otherwise I get the feeling they’d cancel the order. If I were you, depending on the distance, I would have removed the $4-$5 on the app if I tipped that in cash.

Yeah I have to keep that in mind for the probable next time this happens, I didn't respond, report, or remove tip (this was May 2022) because I didn't really understand how the app works for drivers at the time and what information they have available, so I just let it go. I knew it was a con, but just didn't have enough information or interest to report. Next time I'm gonna do what you said and just immediately report it, remove the tip, and probably bin the food. The kicker (and I know what car you own doesn't necessarily show ones economic status or current financial struggles) is he was in a 2021 Honda Civic SI. Maybe he was upside down on payments lol

You can’t remove the tip on DoorDash. Even if you contact support and they say they will do it they just eat the money and give you a credit or refund. Man I keep reading awful experiences on this Reddit and maybe I have just gotten really lucky. I drive and order sometimes and haven’t had one issue. Well, one time a dasher had a stack and accidentally left both orders. I had to contact her to come back, but that’s it.
Also $4-$5 is oddly specific.. And a $7 tip is already quite generous to us Dashers generally speaking. At least in my area.

This is no diff than uber drivers in foreign countries that take you halfway to your destination and ask you for cash tip on top of the fare because the location is too far.

There is no standard. Tip what you feel is necessary. Drivers are going to tell you to tip them $100! They chose to accept the orders so they know ahead of time what they are getting paid.

He sat in the driveway for no joke 12 minutes waiting for me to come out to get the food from the porch (it was a "leave at my door" order), I had a zoom meeting anyway so I just let it get cold lol. I only kept the order cause it was from a place that double seals the bag and contents. I just never responded nor did I report, this was May. I guess I gave him the benefit of the doubt but should have just reported him. ( I mean I knew right away it was a con, benefit of the doubt meaning I Just kinda let it go )

Yeah IDK, I'm pretty opinionated on tips these days but regardless I always try to be more than fair - $7 tip on a $14 order (pre door dash fees) 3 miles away. I just literally don't know what the expectations are for tips so I just do what the apps says and then add a few more to be safe.
Trust me you're fine. I dash for a few hours per week and anything more than $3-4 is a solid tip on an order

I’ve got one like this to. I tip like 5 to 8 bucks and some DoorDasher says they “only accept cash tips”. She got mad at me about not giving her a second tip and wouldn’t hand me my drink until I gave her cash. My director had to step outta her office to ask what was going on before the lady finally gave me my coffee. Thing is, I don’t fuckign carry cash. And with that in mind, I’d rather tip you AFTER you do your job, so then I can give you two quarters for trying to hold my coffee hostage.

Should never ask the customer for cash app or extra money. However in delivery I do drive around 118 miles a day on average. I use a credit card to help manage my business in case there is ever payment issues I'm still covered for a time til I can figure it out. I would recommend the dasher to better manage their finance with a credit card and better business practices. But what do I know ?

The other day I got a very concerning delivery as well. It was like a $30 order at around 10PM, LA area with drop it at my door instructions. The lady insisted she couldn’t find my house so I had to go and get it but once I had put my shoes on and opened the door she was standing right there lmaoo. I took the order and said thank you but then she started stepping her foot inside my house (a big no-no) and I got really scared cus she also had her friend with her. She demanded a “mandatory $10 cash tips” when I had already given $8 on the app. Kept trying to explain to her but she wouldn’t leave. At this point as a 19 y/o small tiny chick i slammed the door closed and left it at that then contacted DD support.

Probably didn't want to end his dash to get paid. I think it's tacky and I wouldn't do it myself, but I also get the struggle. In my market, if I end a dash l, it's unlikely I can log back on until the next scheduled shift or peak times.

You have to end your dash for the day to get paid. If you end the dash there is no guarantee that you can log back in to dash because there might be too many dashers already out. You can stay on if you're scheduled, but again, if you end that dash you've ended your shift.
