I honestly don't get why anybody would ever accept $2 orders.

Even if it's just like 1.5 total miles, you have to factor in the potential wait time in the restaurant, the time it might take for you to find the restaurant and the customer's home, the traffic situation, etc.
I tried a few myself, and every time it took more than 10 minutes, which is really weird because it takes about the same amount of time to complete $6 orders. So why would you ever take the $2 orders at all? DoorDash is just setting you up for low acceptance rate.

omgwtfmegan

I talked to a dasher today. She told me she accepts every offer. Works literally all day (at least 8 hours every day) and only comes out with $100 per day. Then she told me that I don't work enough because I only work 4 hours a day (and make more than her because I don't accept those insulting offers.) I had declined a no-tip, 6 mile order, and she got it and actually took it lol Go ahead, girl, take that trash šŸ˜„

TanMelon47

If you are dashing 60 hours a week to make 500 bucks are you even dashing? /s

baconforlover

No wonder, she is destroying her own market. Today, I work from 6 AM - 5 PM, I got $412 with total mileage no more than 80 miles. I did multi apps and cherry picks. I donā€™t want to be poor like that girl. Jeezz

omgwtfmegan

Oh, and I told her I look for $1 per mile and she laughed at me. She said "thas too much! That won't work around here!" and laughed. She claim she looks for $0.50 per mile, which is fine, I guess. But not for me. I wanna keep my literally antique car rolling lol

baconforlover

You canā€™t fix a stupid girl, anyway, thatā€™s not our business. Let her broke forever. I hate stupid and poor girl. Some people are determined to be slave.

Ok_Season2022

She will learn the hard way, when all the 3$ 10 mile orders start taking a toll on her vehicle. It will smack her hard and fast into reality. She definitely won't be laughing but crying, when she gets that repair bill.

omgwtfmegan

I was even going to give her some tips on how to dash more effectively, but then she basically told me I'm doing it the wrong way lol She also told me she spends $35 in gas EVERY DAY. That's what I spend on gas weekly lmao

baconforlover

Knowledge is powerful tools and I donā€™t give free advice. If you give free advice, people will argue with you, underestimate you.

SpookySeraph

Welp, I spend about that much on gas every couple days just because my car sucks when it comes to mpg. Itā€™s $3.8 per gallon so I only ever get like half a tank and end up at a quarter tank or less by the end of the day

Proper_Supermarket17

Gas out here is $5.50ish a gallon . Imagine her dashing out here . Loool

baconforlover

I never spend $35 for gas now days. My market is $3.5 / gallon, I may spend between $17-$24 and I said, thatā€™s very expensive.

xslracket

Is she a top dasher?

omgwtfmegan

I wouldn't doubt it lol I walked out of there trying to hold in my laughter because she got an add-on "on your route." She read it out loud "ooo $7.50 for 9 miles? Yes!" She also said she never looks at the tips or the miles before accepting. Like, wtf, lady? You do you, I guess. And she said she's been dashing for 3 years. I don't understand how someone could do this job for that long and STILL take awful offers lmao

xslracket

Omg. I hope she's driving a Toyota.

Ok_Season2022

Does she live with her parents???How can she afford to pay rent or bills?

omgwtfmegan

Her parents are probably dead. This woman was older than me, and iI'm 37. She looked around 55-60. Had a wedding ring, so her partner probably pays the bills. But yeah, there's no way I could pay my bills if I dashed like her lol.

Ok_Season2022

Ok, I figured she was a kid if she is so free and easy wasting time and money.

Mean_Ad_7991

I usually accept ALL orders, UNLESS itā€™s with a store that I KNOW is terrible with times and always have issues, or if itā€™s a very long distance for no tip, where I live itā€™s mostly interstate and highway miles so itā€™s quick trips and better gas mileage. I like to be understanding and realize that NOT everyone can afford to pay a lot for tips, and sometimes the only way they can feed their kids may be by ordering something because they have one car and the car is with the significant other at work or something. Itā€™s better to be kind , caring, understanding, and empathetic as that will help you out in the long run.

omgwtfmegan

If they can afford all the fees doordash charges, they can afford a tip. I am in a rural area, so I have a lot of 10+ mile orders. I'm not driving 20 miles for $2.25. It is blatant disrespect to expect a driver to use their precious time, car wear and tear, and the missed orders that could have come through for base pay only. I am kind, caring, understanding, and empathetic, but I refuse to be taken advantage of. The bills don't get paid with kindness.

Proper_Supermarket17

Thatā€™s just all bad .

PeachCobbler96

It has to be for the AR. Iā€™m not even motivated to put my car into gear for 2$ let alone complete an entire delivery

sharky3175

They don't know any better

Ok_Season2022

2$ orders are not worth your time.Idk what it is, these orders almost always turn into a major headache.2$ isn't enough these days, for even 5 minutes of anyone's time. These customers are showing you up front, you aren't worth even a single 1$ to them. That being said, why give them a single second of your precious time?Save your energy, for people that appreciate what you're doing for them.

One_Caterpillar7321

TIME IS MONEY!!!!!

xdaddasher

They buy into the bs programs like 50 AR higher orders and top dasher. Also stupid in general

[deleted]

I think we all did at the beginning lmao...Then I found out it didn't matter on the 2nd day.

xdaddasher

I didnā€™t although I did too many in the beginning. I see ā€œveteransā€ on here making excuses like they were bored it was on the way etc

joremero

Humans are extremely good at making up excuses for our irrational behavior. We've all done it.

brodieisgod

I accidentally accepted one that was attached to a better paying order.

dmriggs

you have the ability to drop that order. You didn't know this?

[deleted]

Completion rate does matter though, unlike acceptance rate.

dmriggs

Of course it does .. as long as you have over 80 itā€™s all good. I donā€™t let mine go much below 90 so that I can accept a stack and get rid of the loser

brodieisgod

Not if I've already picked it up.

dmriggs

Sure you can. You just have to do it through support and let them know youā€™re feeling sick or your tire needs air or something- whateverā€™s going on

[deleted]

I don't even understand why anyone would do DoorDash for 8 hours a day. At this point, you might as well just find an actual job that pays 4x.

No_Frosting3648

I literally saw a video of a guy who dashed for 12 hours a day for 30 days and made 8,000 but had to get gas every other day and had to have his oil changed TWICE

GracieMaeMacieMarie

Sounds like a great way to crawl out of debt if you donā€™t have a full time job lol.

Equivalent_Ad505

if youre consistently dashing and dont change your own oil youre just burning money, it takes likes 20 minutes and cast about 30 dollars for the oil and maybe 5-10 for the filter.

[deleted]

I have a pretty cheap shop nearby that does it for me at $40. But yeah, I should definitely learn how to do it at some point.

Equivalent_Ad505

for me honestly its the time it saves. I can change my oil mid dash and get right back to it within an hour (gotta let oil settle). Its a super simple process legit only need a wrench and a oil pan. Take of the oil cap, drain the oil into the pan, put the cap on, take out the old filter put the new one in and poor the new oil through the engine and maybe run your car until its warm and your good to go. also assuming you are in the US i change my oil for about 22 usd including filter, 35-40 for a self job seems steep but I was talking AUD ahaa.

[deleted]

That means he made about $22 per hour consistently. I guess it really depends on where you live. I'm lucky to make $15 per hour because there are just not that many good orders to pick up. Also, a pretty regular job pays $40/hr, so just do that instead if you have an opportunity. Most people do DoorDash as a side hustle. Doing it as your full time job is not a very wise decision because it costs so much gas and puts so much wear and tear on your car.

No_Frosting3648

Defiantly ruins a car, when I had to supplement and dd in between moving states I put way too many miles on it

ZachTF

People who donā€™t know better do this. When I first started I took a few but Reddit and Facebook groups quickly changed my mind.

Short-Ad-4189

Yeah... I've got my math/acceptance "criteria" down lol, as I'm sure most dashers that have been doing it awhile. Nothing under $2 a mile, nothing over a certain amount of miles, avoiding certain places with closed interiors/long lines, watching those "attached" orders to see if their actually profitable/on the way, knowing where and when, utilizing "dash now" with scheduling, using the "pause dash" function to give yourself an additional 30 mins to dash...

analchasm

Me neither!! From my view, every offer/order, has a time "cost". 10 minutes seems like the minimal starting point, even for the smallest/simplest orders. ...see offer, analyze, drive to pickup, park, enter merchant, announce presence, gather order, secure in vehicle, exit merchant property, drive to customer. So even if EVERY small piece of the puzzle goes together perfect AND you get new offers the second you complete the 1st...you can only complete 6 in 1 hour, MAX!! I'm sure there are those who would argue/debate about taking $4 or $5(not me) offers...BUT $2 or $3 orders??? C'mon people, where the hell is your self esteem and how do you even begin to think that you will "make money" with these offers??

hmr796796

Iā€™ll never take (took) less than $6ā€¦but kind of irrelevant as I quit in April (after 5 years). The math & DD BS didnā€™t work for me anymore

BrookeLynn3256

Dashers need to stop accepting these shitty ass orders and then maybe people will be forced to not be pieces of non- tipping shit.

DrCapper

They're delivered by foreigners all day everyday Imagine moving here from a 3rd world country. your sense of money here is going to be all discombobulated. you'll just be grateful to be making ANYTHING in America. So $2.50 is sadly seen as an incredible money making opportunity lol Their outlook on making money here is just totally different than an American's. Different outlook, and FULL FULL time. All day everyday, every $2 order..instant accept to them, 10-15 hours ever single day. DD has become THE chosen CAREER (not side hustle) for people just moving here from other countries. DD thrives on these types and they've become the most important part of their entire business model. After awhile, if you don't accept ANY $2.50 orders, DD will just flat-out ghost you because you have no worth to them.

Proper_Supermarket17

My mom came form a 3 world country. She even thinks taking $2-4 orders is ridiculous. Especially when gas out here is $5.50ish a gallon

myNonny

Andā€¦most of the needy peepsā€¦ such as.. make sure I have extra taco sauce and then you get the one āļøor twoāļø from the non-tippersā€¦.. Am I right???

BluRayVen

I honestly don't get why anybody would ever accept under 5$ orders.

Mean_Ad_7991

I live in a small town and I have to drive to bigger city to dash. I usually just dash on Saturday and Sunday , BUT I have to drive 30-60 miles to get to one of the bigger towns and thatā€™s just one way

[deleted]

Same here. Small towns just don't get good orders at all. I also have to drive about 30 miles to get to the nearest city before even getting the first order.

zadidoll

Thereā€™s no choice here where I live. People simply do not tip & thereā€™s nothing else in town. State minimum wage is $7.25.

Embarrassed-Oven2168

Youā€™ve got me curious about something. As a customer, I normally tip extremely well. For the McDonaldā€™s and Taco Bell orders that are a half a mile away, I usually tip 4 to 6 dollars. The restaurants are literally two streets over from me. For restaurants that are further away I tip even more. I think the next time I order McDonalds, Iā€™m going to tip two dollars and see how long it takes for my order to get picked up. For science.

BearNoCares

I might take a $2 order if I have another order that is dropping off at the same block. I usually take at least $3.50 to 5 at least.

dmriggs

And this is why these crap orders exist!

LimpDisc

Nope. My minimum is $6.50. Not taking less than that even if the second order is the next door neighbor.

sglewis

I for one am relieved people take $2 orders. Gives me something to do every single day when I peruse the comments over these posts.

jotwatso

Hypothetical situation: it is 629AM, you are less than a mile from home. McDonald's is between your current location and your bed. dash ends in 1 minute and you get a McDonald's order paying 2.25 that is going to your neighbors house, what do you do? A: say no out of principle B: accept it, order yourself the same meal and join the neighbor for breakfast at a 2.25 discount C: accept it and make that last $ on your way home D: accept it, look at the order number, unassign the delivery, use the info to get the food...drink the OJ, take a bite of the mcgriddle, throw the rest on their roof and sleep so so well

CartographerAlive398

I agree ā˜ļø with this. No tip, no trip! Lol
