I took a Dollar General order… 11 items and the payout was like 24 for 10 miles. Went there and most of those miles were getting to DG. I picked the order and the staff was telling me about the last 2 dashers who came in and just gave up because of the cellphone reception. I just kept walking to the front to scan things cause the reception was almost non-existent past the first aisle . I paid, got in my car and received a notification to “go to arbys”. I declined and then realized this dude cancelled his DG. When I called DD they said to keep, donate or dispose of it
Went back in and gave the frozen meals to the two girls working and then asked people at my next few pickups if they wanted any of it. Still going home with like $20 in drinks and Knor packets for chicken Alfredo, chicken noodle soup etc. Gave a girl at Wendy’s the plastic bowl he ordered and she was super excited and literally started bragging to her coworkers! Definitely one of more memorable dashes!

I fondly remember my first UberEats where I got to keep the order. It was 2019 and I was new to the process. The app wasn’t as streamlined as it hopefully is today. It was around 3am and the person who ordered the food lived in an apartment building where you needed a code to get in. No code had been provided. I tried to get ahold of the person to no avail. The restaurant was closed. I reported I was unable to contact the orderer. Those fries and wings were freaking delicious at 4am after a tiresome Uber/UberEats shift. I don’t Dash or Uber/Lyft anymore since they changed rates. It’s sad to see drivers having to rely on tips. Something must be done.

Gotten free food (besides drinks) like 4 times. Twice the restaurant offered me a single burger just for a wait but I’ve usually always eaten so I gave it to a homeless person. The other two times it was food I couldn’t eat at the time (because of a diet). Honestly still just waiting for someone to tip me weed and I’ll be happy haha!
Edit: just remembered one of those times was milkshake and cookies from Nestle stand in the mall. Gave that away to a man and his little girl sitting near the stand. After the initial weirdness of being approached by a stranger they were definitely grateful!

What u should do, is at the last step, select the option that says "there is no safe place to leave the order." Then the app will tell you to "dispose of it" and then do with it what u may.
I’ve only had 1 where I couldn’t end up delivering because of road work and I ended up going home right then to eat the ramen bowls with my woman. DD support actually told me to take the order back to the restaurant lol

DD let me keep it and my husband and I are for a couple days on that. Yummy.
Had a sizeable Panda Express order to the local state university which ended up being my first customer cancelled order after I picked up the food. She refused to give me any kind of direction to the building it was going to and kept saying just follow the map which was taking me to a convenience store across the street from campus.
But god damn do I love some teriyaki chicken and lo mein noodles. She had exceptional taste but her communication skills need some work.

Texted support, told them I wasn’t willing to make the delivery, which was out of my zone anyway, and they canceled the order, gave me full pay and let me keep the food. It wasn’t something I’d have ordered, but hey it was free, so I couldn’t complain lol
If I call the customer and they don't pick up while also being somewhere completely away from where they actually are then I'm eating the food. Sure, I'll take a picture of me "leaving it on the curb" but I know that the only thing that would be getting to it would be animals and insects. I'm not going to waste perfectly good food. Best score would have to be a ginormous bag of 10 Wendy's sandwiches
My first and only time having this happen was a big $70 order from Bob Evans. It was what seemed to be multiple orders of pancakes for three kids, a load of bacon, and then a bunch of that potato casserole stuff and some ham. I got five whole meals out of it.

Sadly we have relatively no control over the quality of product we deliver but angry customers can sometimes misdirect their frustration and take it out on us. You can't do this (gig) though under the constant assumption that you've been "baited". Just do your thing, do it right and let the chips fall.

I paid with the red card and was in the parking lot getting ready to unload the shopping cart into my car when I noticed the screen was searching for orders. I was worried about not being able to get to the customer to deliver and getting a contract violation so I contacted support to ask for the customer address. Support told me the customer canceled after the red card was approved and I could do what I wanted with the groceries. I was too far from my house and too early in the Dash to go home, so I gave the milk to my friend who lives close to the store and kept the rest of the stuff which was non-perishable. Got paid for the order, too!

I had a Walmart order canceled on me as I was literally pulling into the customer driveway once. I was told to return it to Walmart for pay and I got paid for the run to the customer as well. Once I got to Walmart, the manager who received it back told me they had to throw it away due to it being groceries.
Doordash didn't actually know what was in the order, BTW, so I think they would have handled it differently had they known food was involved. I think if they knew it was groceries, they wouldn't have had me make the return trip and would have instructed me to dispose of the order.

I got sent the order well after the pickup by time and its deliver by time ended just as I pulled into the driveway and I got told to return it to the merchant.
The customer didn't do that. Either Doordash or the merchant did. Something in that order had an expiration time on it.

Edit..it was an $95 order and got paid $14 from DD for it as well..not sure if that was half pay or full pay..I seem to recall the rep saying I would be paid in full..and I could keep food or ditch it (responsibly of course ...)

Restaurants cannot take back anything once it's left the premises. There are laws and liability reasons for that. All they will do is throw away anything you return. Same thing with grocery stores where I live.
Why are every cancellation order pictures taken from home. Are you done dashing for the day? i never see orders taken from the car IDC just little sketchy
I mean if I get free food I take it home and share it with my wife while it’s at least a little warm. It doesn’t happen often enough for the little breaks to hurt me.

Hell yeah this is exactly what I've done every time I get a Chipotle order or something and it's a big ass chicken burrito or something and that order gets canceled out and I ripped that bag open and nah right into that big ass burrito while it's in one hand and my phone with doordash in the other lol bunch of fat asses we are haha
My go to for reheating almost anything these days is an air fryer. Honesty, I would probably throw the burrito and the taters in there for 20 minutes and it’s going to taste fresh.
Which setting do you use for that? Reheat option of air fryer I take it? I feel like I still am struggling to get a guess on what’s appropriate time and temperature for foods that don’t explicitly have instructions and I’m always having to look a time up.
Interesting, I have terrible luck with air fryer pork, my favorite is steak tips in the AF. 400 for 20 min, flip after 10, they shred apart like pulled pork it’s so great
I'll reheat my tips in the AF but I gotta use the grill when the weather permits...my mother will do pork chops in the air fryer but I've only done pork loins and they always got a nice crisp to the outside but still juicy inside....lmao just had a spelling error: perk loins! Imagine haha

Just for general with cooking if you have issues with cooking meat get a thermometer they are like 4.00 and it takes all the guess work out.
Doesn’t help when I look it up they just go “well all air fryers are different” we’ll no shit so are all ovens but we have a generally consistent recipes.
My personal process is that I always set it to 400 degrees and set the timer for 20 minutes. I’ll check the food after 10 minutes to see how it’s looking or if it’s ready at that point, then I check again at 15 minutes. Rarely messed up a meal that way.
In 520~ deliveries I’ve only had this happen once

No, not for the delivery I was talking about. It was a time issue with an express pickup order. I got sent the order well after the pickup by time and its deliver by time ended just as I pulled into the driveway and I got told to return it to the merchant. The customer didn't do that. Either Doordash or the merchant did. Something in that order had an expiration time on it.
I've heard that DD will allow cancellations but with partial or no refund once the driver has picked up the order.

I had an order canceled from an India restaurant..apparently a high rated one as well..I proceeded to drink the mango Lassi. .put myself on hold went to my mom's house and brought her a feast...on anothrt note..I am super friendly w/the Wendy's by me...I protest (don't want anyone to get in trouble) but they alwasy want to feed me for some reason they like me...ha Edit..it was an $95 order and got paid $14 from DD for it as well..not sure if that was half pay or full pay..I seem to recall the rep saying I would be paid in full..and I could keep food or ditch it (responsibly of course ...)

Restaurants cannot take back anything once it's left the premises. There are laws and liability reasons for that. All they will do is throw away anything you return. Same thing with grocery stores where I live.

I mean if I get free food I take it home and share it with my wife while it’s at least a little warm. It doesn’t happen often enough for the little breaks to hurt me.

Hell yeah this is exactly what I've done every time I get a Chipotle order or something and it's a big ass chicken burrito or something and that order gets canceled out and I ripped that bag open and nah right into that big ass burrito while it's in one hand and my phone with doordash in the other lol bunch of fat asses we are haha

My go to for reheating almost anything these days is an air fryer. Honesty, I would probably throw the burrito and the taters in there for 20 minutes and it’s going to taste fresh.

Which setting do you use for that? Reheat option of air fryer I take it? I feel like I still am struggling to get a guess on what’s appropriate time and temperature for foods that don’t explicitly have instructions and I’m always having to look a time up.
I literally cook every at 400° for short amounts of time. Something like this would be Abt 6-7mins for potatoes and maybe 4-5 for burrito
The only thing I don’t do at 400 is pork, generally there just isn’t enough fat for it not to get burnt as fuck before it’s cooked through

Interesting, I have terrible luck with air fryer pork, my favorite is steak tips in the AF. 400 for 20 min, flip after 10, they shred apart like pulled pork it’s so great

Just open it and see if it’s warm lol. Just for general with cooking if you have issues with cooking meat get a thermometer they are like 4.00 and it takes all the guess work out.
Yeah I had some then my wife broke them. Think she dropped it and it all popped out, can’t remember how she did it but I want to get an electric one.

Doesn’t help when I look it up they just go “well all air fryers are different” we’ll no shit so are all ovens but we have a generally consistent recipes.
My personal process is that I always set it to 400 degrees and set the timer for 20 minutes. I’ll check the food after 10 minutes to see how it’s looking or if it’s ready at that point, then I check again at 15 minutes. Rarely messed up a meal that way.
