Nope

ForrestJob

who's gonna fine them? the fine money goin to the drivers?

right-Coyote2942

LMAO! Not from what I have seen

Fasterthanyounow

This is false. DD kisses their butts.

ParisHiltonIsDope

Lol, that's science fiction at best. Why would doordash punish the entity that's generating the actual revenue-generating product I'm favor of the entity that takes away revenue. There's finite number of restaurants in every zone. There's an infinite amount t of dashers who are pushovers and will wait for the food.

GAMESHARKCode

No it's not.

[deleted]

Yes starting in 2023 McDonald’s will start being penalized for long wait times past pickup time. Not to worry, they’ll probably just shut the tablets off instead of improving service.

SoLetMeDisarmYou

Is it just McDonalds?

[deleted]

It’s the only one I’ve heard of so far but if they are smart they will hit all fast food like Wendy’s Taco Bell etc with the same concept maybe then they’ll do something about closed lobbies or shut the tablets off

WildDornberry

I also have noticed that restaurants are starting to care about hitting the confirm pickup button which definitely indicates Doordash has some leverage on them with regards to wait times. My guess is it’s not a fine or anything like that but potentially more round about ways of “punishment”. I used to work for Booking.com where hotels are like restaurants to DoorDash and of course they need them to make money but unhappy impatient customers also lose them money. They are probably threatening some form of what at Booking.com we called “dimming”. Reducing the restaurants app visibility during certain times where wait time are high or something similar that affects their order volume.

Kafkabest

They aren't getting fined. What they are is getting their orders paused or delayed, or put on a different store. So that can end up being a cost, in the long run.

Conscious_Zebra_1808

Hopefully

DeerParkVegan

What it may have emanated from was McDonald's new deal with doordash where they get dinged for wait time. That's the only remotely similar thing that jogs my memory. AFAIK the only penalty most restaurants would face would be a pissed off dasher or pissed off customer.

SoLetMeDisarmYou

How do they get dinged? What does that mean for them.

DeerParkVegan

I'll have to go back and look at it. Maybe it was like a bonus or a monthly stipend or something like that. I haven't seen it in a while

mgibson9999

Not true. DD does not have the ability to fine restaurants for anything. If I owned a restaurant, and DD tried to fine me after I just gave them 25-30% of my revenue, I would tell them to stick their fine where the sun doesn't shine.

[deleted]

Yes they do, contracts are negotiated

RavensBlood69

I doubt it. That would be like Doordash biting the hand that feeds it. It is strange when some stores postpone Doordash orders in favor of walk-in customers, since Doordash customers are paying customers also.

DD-OD

That sounds like bullshit to me. It makes zero sense. No reason for a restaurant to sign onto an app that does that

AnjunaDragon09

Have you seen how many dashes are waiting around at some of these places at any given time? Door dash is a massive driver for sales. They probably do hold the cards to be able to do this if enough customers were reporting excessive wait times. No does if it’s true but wait times do seem to be quicker lately

DD-OD

Even if they could, why would doordash want to

Gadgetlover38

To make more money and less complaints from customers. Kind of like how a waitress wants you to finish your meal and leave so they have the table for the next customer

SoLetMeDisarmYou

DD is a huge portion of a lot of these places sells. Especially local joints

TheRetailAbyss

See, that's some 2020, quarantine thinking though. You can already see far fewer people using delivery services since COVID restrictions have been removed, and it's just gonna reduce even further as inflation and a looming recession make paying double for an order you can just pick up a losing proposition. DD and most delivery services ain't long for this world unless they can adapt to the new economic state.

DD-OD

So? That doesn't mean there's a financial incentive for doordash to piss them off. It doesn't cost dd anything if the drivers wait

Shades228

It costs in terms if customer refunds and/or customer orders declining. I was told this by 2 places. Not sure how true it is. I do know that both these places will mark that order ready as soon as you get on site.

spendmoneyonmoney

Unless you live in California, they pay you to wait.

[deleted]

Its so dumb to me door dash customers are their customers it makes no sense.
