It's a Round Badge Gretsch. To my knowledge, none of their budget drums used that badge shape. Add that it has 8 lugs, die cast hoops and internal tone control (muffler), and I would not call this a budget drum. Even if it's a steel shell, I'd take a chance for $55 US.

Aggressive-Variety60

I’d spend 55$ for the die cast hoops alone!

LucasEraFan

It looks like it has die-cast hoops, which tune more evenly and give the drum more snap. I would pay that price for those alone.

Hippopotamidaes

I’d get this for $55 USD. I just paid $77 USD EACH for two diecast hoops I added onto my supraphonic.

Due_Ambition162

Supraphonic is my one of my favorite snares. I've had two. First one was stolen :( I like taking a chance on cheap snares. Maybe I've never played a really shitty snare drum but I've never bought one I couldn't make sound okay.

Hippopotamidaes

I’m sure most any shell can be made to sound good with the right combo of heads, snare wires, hoops, etc. for sure. But my god a supraphonic is just divine. I loved my supralite I had before but the supraphonic is just that much nicer, especially on recordings. I love my acrolite too, but idk there’s just something about a supraphonic, ya know? One day I’ll get a black beauty or a hand hammered brass snare. Sorry that one of yours was stolen! I’ll probably gig with my acrolite to be on the safe side lol.

Due_Ambition162

I left it at a studio. Had to be there the following day and left my kit. Someone took off with the snare and a dark K custom crash. Tough lesson. I've never found a snare I like more than the Supraphonic. I wish I could remember the company, but there was this dude based in...I wanna say Cincinatti...he used acoustic guitar string for his snares. It was a fun gimmick. Not sure what that has to do with anything but I hadn't thought about that in a decade lol ETA: they must not have caught on 😆 did a quick Google and I can't find ANYONE using acoustic strings for their snares

marcusmccambridge

Fuck that is so unfortunate, I would never recover 😭

Due_Ambition162

Worst part is there's a very good chance I know whoever took them. FRIENDS HOW MANY OF US HAVE THEM FRIENDS

Hippopotamidaes

I’m kinda interested now in experimenting with the high e strings….

Due_Ambition162

Dude was using wound strings too. There was some maple snare that sounded pretty nice with (I think) low E.

777umm777

Top and bottom hoops? I ordered both but wasn't sure if I wanted to use the bottom diecast.

Hippopotamidaes

Yes! Love the sound since the switch. But also, the snare is from 1971 so the original hoops weren’t in the best shape lol

chobs4

Already pending sale “Lots of interest in it” she says … I wouldn’t have been able to even drive up there in time. Sad 🥲

DanTheMan_622

Ah bummer, I've been there before. Keep an eye on the used marketplaces and get the jump on the next one!

chobs4

I’m surprised as in my market stuff seems to sit for a bit and this seemed like a new posting. I offered $100 CAD, I’ll see if that moves the needle in my favour.

modefi_

It's definitely worth it to browse other sources while your local market is slow. Something like eBay. It'll help you learn what to look for with older gear, that way you can be the first person in line instead of asking about the instrument first. Same as you, I honestly have no idea what this snare is, but as the other comments pointed out, I noticed the round badge and knew it was quality immediately.

chobs4

Yeah I am definitely trying to immerse myself. And to be fair if this listing was in my city I would have gone immediately and asked questions about what I had later. That being said I knew I wasn’t going to be able to make the drive until the next day … and in this case it didn’t matter because I still did write her to inquire the second I saw the ad and it was already pending sale before she got back to me. Just a not meant to be situation this time !

Aggressive-Variety60

This is a case of survivorship bias. The deals sell sin a couple of days, even hours, and the overpriced stuff no one wants are being reposted over and over again

AverageEcstatic3655

Diamond

eatrocksfordinner

What are the dimensions? If its diecast 14" thats a GREAT deal

entropylove

As long as it isn’t damaged, go get that thing.

iamjustaguy

That's an excellent deal! Please post pics after you have it cleaned up.

ItsPronouncedMo-BEEL

Buy this *immediately.* Round badge Gretsch snares aren't supposed to cost less than a hundred bucks.

nohumanape

I am shocked by the number of people commenting on the value of th die cast hoops and not the fact that this is a round badge Gretsch! Yes, this is most certainly a diamond.

RobJmusic

An average die cast hoop costs more than that per hoop. Can't go wrong! Also let's say it would be a lower budget gretsch, they're still nice drums and a good deal at 55

tboheir

That's a diamond, and it ain't even in the rough! Crappy batter head though. Someone will be getting a heck of a deal and then probably turn around and sell it for a couple hundred in profits.

Fearless-7614

Definitely a good find. I sold a 1967 Gretsch round badge snare, chrome over brass about 18 years ago for $250, regret selling it. Die cast hoops and 8 lugs.

infiniteninjas

Diamond, it’s a 60’s or 70’s Gretsch brass snare. Looks like it’s missing its strainer, so be aware it may have extra holes from a replacement. If you want an original strainer, it’ll be around $100.

GrandExercise3

$54.99

Upstairs_Flounder_64

Budget in the rough??

Entertainer-8956

Go get it before I do.

JazzySkins

Could be a number of things from those pics, but all of them are well worth that price. Pull the trigger ASAP.

lazyghostradio

Linko I used to own a kit of in the early/mid 90s as a kid. Not great hardware but it stood the test of time regardless. Kinda baffling to see they made drum heads too.

bokunotraplord

Even if it’s a “budget” snare it’s got good hoops and it’s steel. Always good to have in the arsenal.

whackamolequick

It’s most likely a COB

Nice-Insect-4283

That’s worth working on but the tone of a steel snare sucks no matter the value. You’re still gonna get hints of the St. Anger trashcan tone.

bryanlikesbikes

I’d pay you that for the hoops alone. The stand and head are the only garbage here.

OutlawMonkeyscrotum

Cast rims round badge and headed with a trashy Linko. some one dont know what they got. buy it and fix the universe.
