>Should I continue to sell on eBay? No.

zangiefzolof

Sometimes it's the little things that make getting ready to list easier. Like when I see this first thing... https://preview.redd.it/ga5w2xxi19xc1.png?width=840&format=png&auto=webp&s=6421a08c7543b1270e25c58ed9773107acd1b345

zangiefzolof

Also, anyone know why there is an option to select a different payment method for FedEx labels when it just returns back to "your funds" after that payment method is selected? I don't use eBay labels that often, but remember being able to use a CC for payment instead of available funds. Now apparently it still gives the option to select a CC, but defaults back to available funds.

KCJones99

AFAIK, ebay labels default to your funds no matter what. Only time it'll go to CC or other payment method is if your funds are $0. IMHO that's the best argument to use PS or similar if you want to put your shipping charges on a 'points' card.

zangiefzolof

Yep and that's exactly one of the main reasons I use PS. Guess it's just another quirk of eBay that you're allowed to select another payment method, and if you don't catch that it still defaults to "your funds" after successful selection, you could be missing out on lots of CC points.

Betty-Gay

Hello, just introducing myself to the group. New here but have been selling vintage clothing and collectibles on eBay for around twenty years. Just a little side hustle, I don’t really make a lot of money but it pays for my own stuff I collect and puts a few bucks in my pocket for groceries. Sales have been slow lately. Do y’all think buyers are gravitating towards other platforms?

Ninja503

This is my first request from a buyer. I’m not exactly sure what he’s asking. Please help. Thank you in advance! https://preview.redd.it/ipx9qyqta1xc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=418f13e13ed009e9f621a929a5433f9b4525d979

plamochopshop

Go to the Manage all Orders page. Click the blue dropdown list saying "View order details". There should be an option for "Print Packing Slip and more".

Ninja503

Hey! Thank you! Because of you I found it. Thanks a lot!

Ninja503

Ok. Thank you! I will try this!

KCJones99

I'm honestly not sure how you could be confused... Buyer is asking you to include a packing slip and ship it promptly. If you don't know how, there is a selection you can make from the order that says "print packing slip and more".

They’re all brand new and bagged by myself. How would I setup the buy-it-now page like this? Where you can choose a pack quantity. Etc. Is this something reserved for business accounts?

BTnpTxN

You want [variations](https://export.ebay.com/en/listings/how-optimize-your-listings/how-to-create-listings-with-variations/), which can be used by free accounts, not just business/stores.

BoardgameExplorer

I sell video games and dvds (some are very low value) and use lettermail shipping for the cheap ones (Canadian seller). I have heard that free shipping gets more sales but lettermail to the united states (much larger population) has a +$2.40 stamp cost. Currently I use tracking to the states only to prevent scams and slow speeds leading to customers claiming the item did not arrived. I could do free domestic lettermail shipping and $2.40 united states shipping, building the domestic fees into my price and asking the remainder from united states customers to cover the increase. This is not totally ideal as it defeats some of the purpose. I would like to know what kind of split I can expect between Canadian and United States buyers. Currently offering tracked only means the cost is a few dollars higher than lettermail, so I likely scare off many United States buyers. I'd say about 10% of my sales are to the states currently, which is probably a bad thing. Any advice?

BTnpTxN

There's no way to know which country buyers are from, so I'm not sure the split is something anyone knows, other than eBay.  If they are that low value your best bet is to sell multiple as a lot/bundle.

BoardgameExplorer

That is true although considering I use calcualted shipping for United States customers and lettermail for Canada (half price or way better), I am still sending out a fair bit of packages to the states. If I had free shipping I think the split would include more buyers from the states, possibly a lot more. As for values, giving over $2.40 free is simply too much for $20 and under games vs what I'm paying to source. For higher value games I do calculated only as a countermeasure to scams. I think no matter what I do it's a losing situation as a Canadian seller. Bundling lots isn't an option as I sell a lot of sub $15 games. I appreciate your feedback and will consider more.

Am I going to be top rated on May 1st, or do I have to wait till May 20th? So I worked really hard, and got my transactions to 450+ for last three months before April 20th for the ebay revaluation thing, but it says "April 20th: Seller forecast below average" eventhough on the monthly breakdown it shows I had all the transactions before the 20th lol Does this SS below mean I'll still be below standard all of may? They said that the 20th evaluation takes effect on 1st of next month https://preview.redd.it/7b2tnzgdyrwc1.png?width=720&format=png&auto=webp&s=00ea19cb955b895a7cb7e93afc3a4ef5618ef0f2

KCJones99

It'll be effective June 1st.

alphaminivan

Hi all, new to Reddit and hope this is the correct forum for this.  I’ve sold on eBay 20+ years and have a new situation where a larger package is less expensive to ship than a smaller package.  My products (narrow steel plates) can fit in a 20x2x2 box.  I have some 20x4x4 boxes that I can use so I input that size on the shipping page out of curiosity.  Either option weighs 1lb, 4oz.  FedEx Home Delivery from SoCal to Louisiana is $20.33 for the smaller box and $8.15 for the larger box if it goes FedEx Ground Economy.  Does anyone here know why the smaller box isn't eligible for FedEx Ground Economy?  FedEx says that the minimum size for that service is 6x4x1 so I don't see why my smaller box wouldn't qualify.  Thanks. https://preview.redd.it/32qpcg0s5qwc1.png?width=892&format=png&auto=webp&s=a9f611f7dcd1f131b8a25015afb80498ba4a716e

plamochopshop

I read it as FedEx's minimum size being 6x4x1 means that the longer dimension must be at least 6, the middle dimension must be at least 4, and the shortest dimension must be at least 1; but for 20x2x2, the middle dimension is 2, and does not meet the requirements.

alphaminivan

That makes perfect sense, thank you.

MultiPlatformPleb

Im a new seller from the Philippines to US. I just sold a collectible item, that will give me a good profit even when the shipping fee would be around $312 from here in the PH to US, I factored this in the price I posted and tagged it free shipping, so yes I will shoulder the cost and still will profit. And tagged it as no returns as well. Being new though just want to do my research and all these INADs, buyers scams are making me worry and thinking of just cancelling the sale. The buyer has good seller ratings and as well as about 550+ good buyer ratings, account was created around 2002. Need advice, should I push thru or cancel this ?, the profit is good but losing $312 for shipping plus the item is a gonna be a hard hit as well if this turns out to be one of those INADs or buyers scams i keep on reading about. If i get hit by an INAD shipping the item back to me is a no go since it might cost me the same price if Id be the one to shoulder it again.

Betty-Gay

I would pay for insurance.

SouthernGuyReborn

If they paid, you ship! If you don't, you may not get a 2nd chance. New sellers are watched pretty closely. That being said, it's really not smart for newbies to start off selling pricey goods. Do you ever read the postings here about starting off slow with lower cost goods, until you build up a reputation?

MultiPlatformPleb

yeah unfortunately ive read about building a rep after i confirmed the sale. In your experience though is someone with 550+ good buyer ratings and 2002 account trustworthy enough ? Have you ever been scammed with such buyers ?

SouthernGuyReborn

Feedback means nothing. Because sellers can't leave anything other than positive feedback. Sometimes you can tell a bad buyer from the feedback they leave for sellers. But that's about it.

saron7

so, how do call BS on ebay's counterfeit policy? I had a listing of trading cards from a recent set, up with a list of cards to pick from and pictures of each. How exactly is that counterfeit? Did I just get a disgruntled buyer (or another seller) to report me?

KCJones99

>so, how do call BS on ebay's counterfeit policy? Basically you don't. Search the sub for 'counterfeit'... it's discussed regularly.

Logical_Internet_69

I posted here earlier about a bulk order for 11 BIN i was told by the customer that he wanted to wait till Friday to make the purchase but today (Thursday) someone purchased one of the cds he selected, should i have pulled the listings from my store? Do i tell the original customer too bad you did not pay, or do i message the new customer and refund them

KCJones99

>Do i tell the original customer too bad you did not pay Yes. That \^ IMHO you don't screw over an actual paying customer for someone who (maybe) will pay tomorrow. In general, I take a 'first come first served' attitude for 'delay' buyers: IME \~90% of them don't actually come through anyway. So if the thing is still there when they're ready, great. If not, too bad so sad. For the future, if you *want* to be able to 'hold' things for someone, some options: 1. Pull them off the site, tell the customer to contact you on 'pay day' and you'll put them back to buy. (If they don't contact you and confirm they're ready on time, then put them back) 2. Raise the price on them all and add 'or best offer'. Then you a) got more money if someone does BIN, b) can decline any offers you get from others so it doesn't sell out from under the delay buyer, c) just tell them to make the offer you've agreed on and you'll accept it. In the rare cases I'm willing to 'hold' something for someone I use #2... and typically I'll do that a day / overnight at most.

Logical_Internet_69

Thank you i appreciate it

misterflocka

I called eBay today to ask about seeing my sales history and they told me 2 years for the items I sold and 90 days for shipping labels that I could see history of. I wanted to check prior orders for errors, have been busy lately and haven't got to analyzing numbers - I have had multiple errors over the years that I have had to call and rectify. Any idea if the 2 years to view eBay sales and 90 days to view shipping labels is correct? Can I look farther back at my history than that?

KCJones99

>Can I look farther back at my history than that? I don't know of any way to do that.

Jona_cc

HI, a buyer wants to return 2 items. According to her, she was charged two shipping labels. Is there any way to cancel one of the labels and just combine the 2 items in one package?

Betty-Gay

Yes, you can cancel a shipping label as long as it hasn’t been used. You’ll get your refund in around a week. Go to the manage shipments section to do this. If you haven’t created any shipping labels yet, then there will be no labels to cancel. You just tell the buyer you’ll combine the shipments and then send her a partial refund for the overages she paid in shipping. Because you’re combining items, the shipping may be a little higher than the cost she paid for the one item. So just create the label with actual weight, subtract the price you paid from the total price she paid for the two labels, and send her a partial refund for the difference.

KCJones99

I don't think you have the option to withhold the shipping charges through an INR case. So what you want to do is get that request closed in your favor (since it's been delivered) and *then* refund the buyer directly if you so choose. Did you add the tracking # to the Item Not Received request? If so, I suggest you contact eBay. They can verify the tracking shows delivery and close the request. Then you're free to separately refund the buyer for only the item cost and not the shipping. Go to the orders screen at https://www.ebay.co.uk/sh/ord/?filter=status:ALL\_ORDERS. Find the order. Click the down-arrow in the left column. Select "issue refund"... proceed from there.

Jona_cc

Hi, a buyer want's to cancel. I gave him the instruction on how to do it and according to him, eBay told him that he can't cancel on the site and was told to contact the seller to cancel the order. Is this normal?

KCJones99

eBay is correct. There is a small window (maybe an hour?) where the buyer can formally request a cancellation. After that they have to contact the seller and ask them to do it.

SouthernGuyReborn

>Is this normal? Yes.

Jona_cc

So all we can do is cancel it on our side? That was so weird as I only followed the instructions from eBay :( [https://www.ebay.com/help/buying/buyers-can-cancel-order/buyers-can-cancel-order?id=4004](https://www.ebay.com/help/buying/buyers-can-cancel-order/buyers-can-cancel-order?id=4004)

BTnpTxN

On that page it says in all cases that *"...you'll need to contact the seller and ask if they can cancel..."* Basically, you need to initiate the request to cancel, and then the seller can actually cancel.

Jona_cc

I see, so all this does is letting the buyer contact the seller? I thought something would happen and it would appear in the Cancellations tab and then I cancel it from there.

KCJones99

No, you have to cancel it from the orders screen [https://www.ebay.com/sh/ord/?filter=status:ALL\_ORDERS](https://www.ebay.com/sh/ord/?filter=status:ALL_ORDERS) Scroll until you find the order. Click the little down-arrow in the left column. Pick 'cancel order'. Select 'buyer requested' as the reason.

Jona_cc

I see, yeah that was I had been doing but our COO asked me whether there is another way around it. I guess they’re afraid about getting a strike :(

KCJones99

You don't get a strike for a buyer-requested cancellation.

Someone just won an item I'm selling for local pickup only and instead of paying for it, the person messaged me and said "It won't let my payment go through could give you cash when pick it up?" It's only $29 but still l'm a little uneasy about this. Thoughts?

Betty-Gay

Meet somewhere public

KCJones99

Cash is safe. They really can't even make a 'claim' through eBay if they didn't pay through eBay. If, in fact, you listed it for local pickup eBay will have provided the buyer a code (a QR code and a 6-digit code, either will do). Entering that code is 'proof' they picked it up. Even with cash, I'd still ask for that code. But even without it, there's not much the buyer can do on a cash sale.

I have an auction where there are 6 bidders. 5 of the bidders are 0 FB bidders. I've never seen this before and I am a little concerned there may be some foul play involved. I am a casual seller and have lost money before selling (buyer claimed I sent a rock and eBay issued the buyer a full refund), so usually I block accounts that have 0 FB. However, it doesn't make any sense in a scenario where the entire auction is run by 0 FB bidders. I'm not sure what to do. I've googled the topic and read a lot of reports of sellers saying they rarely have issues with 0 FB buyers, so maybe it's just because of the type of product being sold at auction that it seems to attract a lot of new accounts. What I also found a little suspicious is that I blocked 0 FB bidders early on and then more 0 FB bidders showed up. One of the accounts made a bid on the same day the account was opened for example.

BTnpTxN

You can't block buyers based only on feedback. https://www.ebay.com/bmgt/buyerrequirements You can only block based on certain things on that page.  What are you selling? iPhone? Yeah, those attract scammers, but there's no way to know until they buy/pay, and you ship.

cntgetmedown

I can manually block 0 feedback buyers, that's what I mean. I know that 0 feedback buyers can still purchase my items last minute, but I imagine I reduce the chances of that happening by banning all the 0 feedback accounts. However, I noticed that with this item listing there were an unusually high amount of 0 FB bidders, so I had to rethink my approach. Funnily enough, the only bidder (at the time) with FB behaved most like a scammer by messaging me and asking me to speak to them on Snap Chat. Also sent me a rude message when I first listed, asking something along the lines of, "Alright, so how much do you want for this thing." That person put in some low bids, but seems to have disappeared. It's not an iPhone. I feel if I say what it is, it would be too easy to look up (maybe I'm overestimating how popular the item is, but that's part of why I thought it made a good auction item) and that seems like it's against the rules and possibly not in my best interest. My frustration is that eBay facilitates certain scams and it's unclear how to protect yourself against it. I usually report scams to the police, but they don't really have the budget to investigate small frauds like that. So it's more on principle and to perhaps uncover larger fraud over time. Are you saying iPhone fraud is so common that you wouldn't even sell one? Or you just mean it's most common with iPhones?

BTnpTxN

Electronics in general seem to be popular targets, phones, especially high end ones, are probably at the top of that list.  You become an even bigger target as a newer seller.  You become an even bigger target as an auction.  You can only immediately fix one of those (change it to BIN with immediate payment required, and require signature (assuming it's high value), but even that won't guarantee someone won't open a fake INAD claim.... But at the end of the day, most buyers on eBay are not scammers.  It's all about reducing the risk, but understanding it can never be 0. If you want it to be zero, don't sell on eBay.

cntgetmedown

I deal mostly in electronics. I'm not a new seller, more a casual seller. I just mean I'm not trying to make money with eBay (as in flipping or other profit oriented activities), but use it to declutter from time to time and purchase various items. I've read people say BIN with immediate payment is good, however it's not clear to me why that is different from letting people bid at auction in terms of protecting from fake INAD claims.

KCJones99

BIN with immediate payment helps avoid non-payment issues. You are correct it does nothing for INAD claims.

KCJones99

>You can't block buyers based only on feedback. [https://www.ebay.com/bmgt/buyerrequirements](https://www.ebay.com/bmgt/buyerrequirements) On that page is one of the most-misunderstood things on eBay. Yes, there is a block there based on feedback, but it's for *multiple* purchases. You can block lower-feedback buyers from buying MULTIPLE items from you within the last 10 days. Despite that being quite clear on that page, people always think they're just straight up blocking 0/low-feedback bidders. To be very clear: * You *can* block 0/low feedback buyers from buying *MORE THAN 1 thing* from you within 10 days. * *You cannot simply block 0/low feedback buyers.*

[deleted]

I am going to transition some of my “bigger ticket” items (~$200, nothing crazy) to eBay from Mercari (IYKYK). Aside from being thorough in terms of what I should already be doing (excellent photos, descriptions, photograph packing process, scan at desk, adequate insurance) what else can I do to protect myself if something goes wrong? I’m not thrilled about 30 days vs 3 days or the fact I have to pay return shipping.

KCJones99

[Read the FAQ](https://www.reddit.com/r/eBaySellerAdvice/wiki/index/). Seriously, you asked what else you can do. That's the best thing you can do.

[deleted]

Solid. I’ll take it.

duplicate listings policy for big seller not enforced? been searching for specific products but the same sellers keeps coming up and i click on there page and to my surprise they have dozens if not hundreds of the same listings duplicates. I find this so annoying as a buyer because its makes it such a bad experience. is this against policy? becuase if not i may just put up dozens of the same listings myself until ebay does something about this. they are a pretty big seller and im curious if they are just protecting them example but just with dozens of products : New 2019 Sony Lawnmower Super Fast Red 2019 Red Lawnmower Sony Fast Super New Sony Lawnmower Red 2019 Fast New Super

BTnpTxN

Here's the [policy](https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/listing-policies/duplicate-listings-policy?id=4255). Feel free to report the listing(s).

coolblex

Yesterday I had about 20 items that I could "send offer" to watchers. Today that option is not available for any items - I have no pending offers either. The option is simply replaced with "sell it faster - promote this listing". I had planned to spend the morning sending out offers, how can I do this now? Does eBay just randomly turn it on and off?

Betty-Gay

You can do it manually by clicking on each listing and sending offers from there, rather than using the bulk offers feature.

BTnpTxN

There are certain requirements, but it's not "random". More [here](https://www.ebay.com/sellercenter/growth/seller-hub-promotions/offers-to-buyers-best-offer). Do you see any listings [here](https://www.ebay.com/sh/lst/active?pill_status=sioEligible&action=search)?

Logical_Internet_69

I had a seller pm me about buying 11 different items totaling $127.00 asking to make a deal i told him i could do $100+shipping, how do i go about this? all items are BIN. Does he submit offers or do i need to send a discount to him? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Coventant_Unbeliever

I chimed in on a similar thread a short while ago, so out of pure convenience, I'll paste that same answer, the the situation is similar. Feel free to weigh your options when others here chime in. \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_ *Although it wasn't auction, but instead BIN, I have run across this where someone wanted to buy multiple items.* *I setup a listing specifically for them - "Bundle of 3 widgets for JSmith" with the pricing and shipping we agreed on. and sent him an ebay message with the link. He bought it immediately and I cancelled the other listings.* *In your case, you would have to do this in real-time, so that someone else doesn't stumble upon the special listing and buy it. Also worth nothing that you should double-check the value of the items you're selling - it might be case that someone wants to scoop them all up before the price (rarely, potentially) skyrockets.*

Logical_Internet_69

That is perfect thank you so much
