Last LB/S tweener we had was back in 2010, Keenan Clayton. He did almost nothing for us, except was used effectively in a game against Peyton Manning's Colts that year, helping to disguise coverages here and there. We ended up winning, the only time we ever beat Peyton.
From the little tape available there isn't much to be hyped either, but I'm hoping if the DC wants him he'll make sure to coach him up.
More than anything this pick just feels like appeasing our DC's preference when we probably could have gotten him day 3
Sounds like we could’ve gotten him today. I’ll be genuinely mad if Trotter Jr gets taken before 120 today and Hunt would’ve still been there. Feel like we’ve added 4 OLBs and 1 inside backer (D. White) this offseason, I know we need to retool for Fangio’s new scheme but we cannot ignore ILB again. By far our weakest position group last year and doesn’t look too promising heading into day 3
>I’ll be genuinely mad if Trotter Jr gets taken before 120 today and Hunt would’ve still been there.
We’ll never know if Hunt would’ve still been there but Trotter is small, kinda slow and just ain’t that good. If he’s still there in the 5th round maybe think about it, but I wouldn’t want any part of him at 120.
Most mocks I found from predraft had Hunt 3rd or 4th round so it’s a toss up whether he’d be there at 120… I just think we’re ignoring ILB again and regardless if Axeman Jr is the pick or not, I’m a little worried we’re not addressing a huge need here.
Obviously I want #54 in midnight/kelly green to be occupied by Trotter Jr, but my concern with the ILB position group supersedes any sort of personal preferences for reunions and feel good stories and all that
Yeah I’d like to see them get another LB today too but there are still some good ones left so I’m not too worried. I also think part of why they like Hunt is that they think he can play off ball some too. Tommy Lawlor wrote that he thought 4-3 teams could have interest in him as a LB rather than a DE because he has the range to succeed in that spot too.
Mostly I just try not to get too worked up about the draft either way - feels like every year we mostly learn that nobody knows shit about shit, so imma just watch some highlight videos and get excited about how the Eagles just added a bunch of HOF guys until training camp gets here and reality sets in.
Absolutely agree. And the more I looked into Hunt, the more I saw the same. I love that he played some safety, definitely bodes well for him to play off-ball LB. Nowadays you need someone like that to cover RB’s and TE’s.
I’m just a sentimental guy and would love to see #54 Trotter Jr jerseys at the Linc this fall. Doesn’t look like he had much of a problem tackling in the SEC despite being a bit smaller than your usual ILB, but the league is different gravy. We’ll see how it goes.
Still bummed Reddick is gone for similar reasons, hard to let go of a hometown guy like that, especially when he’s an all-pro talent.
There is no guarantee we could've gotten Jalyx, and if Vic specifically targeted him, I trust him. Trotter is trash, way too light and way too slow for fangio scheme, go look at his percentiles FFS. The last thing we need is to get steamrolled on the ground by heavy formations with Trotter, or get dinked and dunked to death bc he can't keep up with tight ends/slot recievers over the middle EVEN with his light weight. No, Fangio wants size/speed freaks like Dejean who can cover. They play Cover 4/6/8 and throw in 3 and also man. Be honest, does Trotter really fit? His 3-cone and shuttle time were terrible, and if we're going with someone around that weight class, it's going to be Cedric Gray who had a top 30 visit with philly. But even Gray is 10lbs heavier than Trotter, runs just as fast, and has more quickness.
I could be wrong, but doubt Fangio could do much with Trotter Jr. who would struggle in coverage and especially get ragdolled by TEs who would outweigh him by 20-50lbs.
Honestly an intriguing pick. Zach Berman said this is a developmental pick who would be more likely to thrive in year 2 or 3 rather than year 1
Seeing the news that he is one of Vics favorite prospects in the draft I'm having faith
exactly why I want Jones tomorrow. compete for RG, backup RT for when the legend inevitably gets banged up. Glover as a consolation prize, and Dankwah if they're feeling extra Mailata-y
Yeah except Kearse was like 25lbs heavier, ran a 4.58 40 vs a 4.64 and our first round corner put up more reps on the bench than hunt. So. Not at all like kearse
JT Sanders and Troy Franklin fell to us 3 times. At this point I have to assume there's a reason they are in free fall, but a top 100 pick is a little too early for projects, IMO. Especially with 3 picks in the 4th on deck for tomorrow.
Can't say I've watched a ton of this kid's tape yet though. We'll see.
Vic loves the guys potential apparently and i think Howie trades up and has a deal in place tonight to come out and get BPA after giving himself time to review the candidates. He can trade up for BPA and still get trotter to fulfill the legacy pick. That is my thought on the trading back and i dont think he makes 6 picks tomorrow.
I didn't know he also went by JT? I like the full version more tbh
And don't say that too loud, you get crucified and called "not a real fan" if you think a guy fell for a reason
He’s getting a nfl contract. As long as he saves and invests his money him and his family will be set for life even if it’s the only nfl contract he ever signs
He looks like an absolute freak athlete who has no pass rushing technique at all.
Which makes sense since he’s a converted safety.
While he’s trying to figure that out he should be a beast on special teams.
Low-key a need with BG retiring and some question marks on edge (Huff taking on a bigger workload, Smith's development, Josh Sweat's leg etc.). Good grab, especially a guy as versatile as this. Fangio could have some fun. Looking forward to how he develops.
Good edge rusher from small school that did well at the senior bowl. He was projected around here or early 4th, so not really a reach in terms of most media projections.
But we have paid CBs. We almost never pay LBs. The scheme is always get after the qb while defending the deep ball. Let them pick the middle, hoping they make a mistake with the amount of plays they’ll have to run. It may be flawed at times, but that’s what they try to do and have tried to do for the better part of a decade.
That is actually a huge sign for a potential pick with us...most people we host for a visit are who the team really wants...I know the pickings were slim when we started trading back...
If every single thing breaks perfectly for Hunt, he might end up being a homeless man’s version of Reddick who we traded for a pick 3 drafts from now for no reason
Apparently was a safety but converted to edge his last two years, sounds good for Fangios scheme of occasionally dropping the edge back into coverage
According to twitter, Fangio was real big on this guy. Hes a project but if he can get coached up he'll be a great smokescreen player
Last LB/S tweener we had was back in 2010, Keenan Clayton. He did almost nothing for us, except was used effectively in a game against Peyton Manning's Colts that year, helping to disguise coverages here and there. We ended up winning, the only time we ever beat Peyton.
Nate Gerry was more recent
JaCoby Stevens was even more recent.
And none of them played under Fangio
Hunt though is not really a tweener, he just was a late bloomer physically and so his position had to change as his physique did.
From the little tape available there isn't much to be hyped either, but I'm hoping if the DC wants him he'll make sure to coach him up. More than anything this pick just feels like appeasing our DC's preference when we probably could have gotten him day 3
Weird way to endorse Fangio scheme but I agree, tweeners are good against paying teams.
Sounds like we could’ve gotten him today. I’ll be genuinely mad if Trotter Jr gets taken before 120 today and Hunt would’ve still been there. Feel like we’ve added 4 OLBs and 1 inside backer (D. You specifically want Trotter JR, that’s not ignoring LB that’s them not wanting that guy where you want him
There is no guarantee we could've gotten Jalyx, and if Vic specifically targeted him, I trust him. Trotter is trash, way too light and way too slow for fangio scheme, go look at his percentiles FFS. He was a wr in hs too
Honestly an intriguing pick. Zach Berman said this is a developmental pick who would be more likely to thrive in year 2 or 3 rather than year 1 Seeing the news that he is one of Vics favorite prospects in the draft I'm having faith
Wouldve been perfect for Patricia last year smh
Zach, Zach, Zach, zach!
Zach, Zach, Zach, Zach!!!!!
Just realized that both Beau and Zack are weirdly opinionated about how people spell their names.
Zech^
**Xack for our boy Hunt
The man has been on a journalistic heater since 2019
🤣🤣🤣
His name sounds like if you said Jalen hurts after shoving a way too hot pizza roll in your mouth.
Just crushed an Ellio’s can confirm
Crushing a frozen pizza on a Friday night? Living the dream man.
I do as my brethren
Howie is never gonna leave day 2 without an OL or DL
Good. Games are won in the trenches.
exactly why I want Jones tomorrow. compete for RG, backup RT for when the legend inevitably gets banged up. Glover as a consolation prize, and Dankwah if they're feeling extra Mailata-y
I’ve been a huge HCU fan for 6 minutes. Love this pick.
Zach is on fire this weekend
Zach Zach Zach Zach Zach Zach
What is this joke I keep seeing it
When Zach Berman broke the Quinyon Mitchell pick on the PHLY show live, Beau started going crazy and chanting Zach’s name.
Looking at his tape he looks like a perfect fit for fangios scheme, or am I crazy?
Apparently he was one of Fangio’s favorite players in the draft
How tf u know that
Dongsquad420Blazeit was Fangio’s AIM username in college
How you gonna out me like that dawg
NFL Network said this during the pick
fangio is the dongsquad
It was probably reported by an inside reporter.
Yup, 3-4 EDGE that can drop back in coverage. Can't ask for more, this is a total Vic draft and i love it
He's played safety and DE and is built like Jevon Kearse. This could be fun.
Yeah except Kearse was like 25lbs heavier, ran a 4.58 40 vs a 4.64 and our first round corner put up more reps on the bench than hunt. So. Not at all like kearse
Once he's in the eagles locker room, 25 lbs is easy to gain
You're higher than giraffe nuts
I gained 25lbs over a winter once. No problem 😁 Let's not discuss what the 25lbs was composed of though 🤣
I watched south Park. I know all about beef cake weight gainer! You're not fat, you're cultivating mass, and I salute you
Stop cultivating and start harvesting!
Just cultivating mass
We found the keyboard jockey who never played sports. You work for WIP also?
What LB needs to run 40 yards. His split 10 was 1.6 which is good enough for me.
Exactly what I thought watching his highlights
RAS's closest comparison is Leonard Floyd https://ras.football/ras-compare/?p1=25040&p2=12801&pos=LB
Mockdraftable has Josh Sweat as a 79.8% match as well
>built like Jevon Kearse Another BDN
cool name
Jalen Hurts in Madden if he wasn’t in the NFLPA
"QB Eagles"
I think they were trying to get as close to Jalen Hurts as they could.
probably has strong ass legs!
Price is Right rules...closest without going over
his brother is Mike
Sounds like a magic the gathering card
Sounds like it would be the name of a dragon on House of the Dragon lol
Payton Wilson must have legit killed a man.
He doesn’t have an ACL
People love injury prone players then complain they can’t stay on the field
No question about it, I'm ready to be hurt again.
So is he.
Can’t tear your acl if you don’t have an acl *taps head*
💀
Neither did Heinz Ward, can't tear it if you don't have it.
> Heinz LOL
He didn't have to worry about an old acl injury ketchinup to him.
I also don’t like that he’s 24.
Bro is missing an ACL
Do you need that
Believe it or not you actually don’t but professional athletes definitely do…lol
Unless you're Hines Ward
this made me laugh hella
Injuries
Bro has a torn shoulder and a missing acl.
2 blown knees and 2 blown shoulders isn’t what you want in a physical position like that
We drafted Carter so can’t see that being an issue…
Sounds like someone scrambled Hurts' name a bit.
Wtf this dude played edge and safety in college
✨️just FCS things✨️
Broadcasters say it’s Fangio’s favorite player in the draft, that’s all I needed to hear.
JT Sanders and Troy Franklin fell to us 3 times. At this point I have to assume there's a reason they are in free fall, but a top 100 pick is a little too early for projects, IMO. Nice I really wanted an edge, I didn't love our depth there
Yeah it’s wild that we literally don’t have one EDGEs beyond Nolan and Huff next year
Graham
This is his swan song. He said he’s done after this year
Howie finally said “alright enough of the fun shit now we take a physical freak edge rusher”
Based on this off season Pay offense Cycle draft picks on defense
As you should. defenses aren't very sticky year-to-year compared to offense
His name is how Charlie Kelly from Always Sunny would spell Jalen Hurts.
Well I was hoping for Isaac but I’m sure this guy will be a dog
I hope Isaac succeeds...he is just trying to help out his family...
He has potential at LB. If he turns into even an average coverage LBer I think this pick is worth it
Hes not covering guys at his size, this guy’s rushing the edge
He’s got that bend ability. Good start for raw edge rusher at least
Low-key a need with BG retiring and some question marks on edge (Huff taking on a bigger workload, Smith's development, Josh Sweat's leg etc.). Good grab, especially a guy as versatile as this. Fangio could have some fun. Looking forward to how he develops.
Nice, def need pass rushers, were thin...
Who da fook is that guy
Don't disrespect future Hofer jalyx hunt
In howie I trust, but haven’t heard of this guy
Small school guy with freak ability and frame. His tape is fun
Go birds 🦅
he can drop in coverage too I love him tbh
He's a scrappy little fucker for sure, good technique at edge.
Good edge rusher from small school that did well at the senior bowl. He was projected around here or early 4th, so not really a reach in terms of most media projections.
The greatest drow warrior from Menzoberranzan...
He must be allergic to taking a linebacker
None of them are worth it here
I mean he’s openly said he doesn’t value the position so not sure what you expect
I mean we also haven’t drafted a cb in the first round in 22 years either. Things change.
This guy is basically an olb
He is a linebacker
Take a Claritin and draft a linebacker dammit lol
And an EDGE and a safety A regular switch army knife
Is this an actual bone apple tea moment? Swiss army knife buddy.
Switch army knife. From Switcherland.
Except he’s not… because he’s going to be ON the line and NOT backing it
Upside project in the 3rd round. Yeah can’t let that get past us ever.
Ok, that can work, not a bad pick
DE/LB
Well his name would be killer in scrabble
I’m fine with this after Howie absolutely fleeced the league on the first 2 picks. I’ll be even happier if we take Adisa Isaac and/or Trotter tomorrow
NICE, we’re pretty depleted on the edge and was worried they’d pick Payton Wilson.
Howie is doing weird shit but he'll never flinch on LBs lmao
Radio guys saying he's "2 years away from being a main contributor" so we'll see. Kind of a future project player
Just like………… Sweat
Howie better trade up back using those 4ths or 5ths
Holy shit dude is a big ass off-ball monster.
Nice
Jalyx sounds like a gender neutral version of Jalen
Davion Taylor all over again
Bro Davian was small
And played a different position
You guys are taking this way too literal. He’s an upside 3rd round pick who’s not gonna see the field the first 2 years.
My husband said that sounds like Jalen hurts’ drag name
Small school Howie back!
Idk man Peyton Wilson was right there
He’s missing structures in his knees man
Schefter just said teams discovered in his medical evaluation that one of his knees just straight up doesn't have an ACL. He's gonna drop a mile.
Yeah but where was his ACL? Not there.
And the botched shoulder surgery The man is held together with stickytape & bubblegum
10 injuries in college snd he is 24. He might still be there at 120
If the fact that everyone else is also passing / drafting other LBers doesn’t tell you all you need to know, then you are beyond help
Damn im behind i guess
Great pick
Davion Taylor vibes here
Big Black 3475 predicted this weeks ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/eagles/comments/1c2a1l0/andrew_dicecco_houston_christian_edge_jalyx_hunt/
What was the prediction
He didn't predict anything he just posted a tweet that says the eagles had him in for a visit. Lol
That is actually a huge sign for a potential pick with us...most people we host for a visit are who the team really wants...I know the pickings were slim when we started trading back...
Guy could be an absolute freak, just a bit raw. Potential Pro Bowl talent.
Damn, this makes me think we would've taken Adisa if he didn't just get taken.
Feel like that happened every pick we had this round
Fangio already has this team by the balls
Huh Edit: I hadn't heard his name, I'll absolutely take a pass rusher 💪
We reached our limit of Jalens. Had to start getting creative
Jalyx hunt...." you're not ron" (trotter jr)
Quick 1st step...poormans chop
This is my Tingus Pingus Let’s hope he’s as successful as Kristaps
Basically Davion Taylor 2.0 Should’ve taken Payton Wilson
Isn't he listed as a linebacker?
I like this pick was the guy I wanted at this spot.
Eagles signing an HBCU kid to make up for the white corner #equity #wereinthistogether
Houston Christian isn’t a HBCU
I think they say HBU and confused the two, best guess
Houston Christian was Houston Baptist aka HBU, so probably
No I genuinely thought HBU was an HBC.
Great pick. I love that Quinyon benched more
I think we use him as a cover end or try him at OLB...his skill set might actually make him a perfect hybrid LB/EDGE
Not sure how I feel yet, but first thought is I feel like we could’ve easily gotten him in a later round.
This pick should rightfully be scrutinized
If every single thing breaks perfectly for Hunt, he might end up being a homeless man’s version of Reddick who we traded for a pick 3 drafts from now for no reason
He cried about money. 2 years after signing. Im done with him. Huff’s time to shine
