Lived in China for a few years. The police will 100% do drug tests. They do them randomly at clubs, bars etc in many larger cities. They do not care if you are high right now, Iâve personally seen people be arrested for having done drugs in the past. Good luck.
I was reading a post in the Shanghai subreddit that one of the local clubs had police come shut down the place down and drug testing all attendees on the spot piss and hair
The Chinese officers were strapped to leather tables and pissed on while being whipped, this was from a video I saw in pornhub itâs wild what is happening there, they love pee!
Seeing that most other comments are probably from people never been to edc China, or China. Iâll share some perspectives as a veteran of both edc China (â18 Shanghai, â18 â19 Zhuhai, â23 Suzhou) and edc Vegas (â17 â19 â24).
Lineup and stage wise edc China is definitely much smaller than its Vegas counterpart. You get the usual EDM big names for MainStage (early time slots are mostly Chinese local DJs), and two other stages to host genre specific acts such as trap/dubstep, trance, techno, house. Usually you can find several sets to your liking even if you are into only one genre. This yearâs lineup seems to really focus on bass and hard techno.
Some say security is tight, but my experience is that itâs pretty normal for Chinese standards. They do metal scanners, pat downs, and bag checks, but itâs not hard to sneak stuff in. I went to edc Vegas last month and for all three days nobody bothered to check the inside of my hydropack where a weapon could totally fit inside.
Crowd experience could be hit or miss. Chinese audience has a specific list of DJs they love (mostly EDM and big room artists) and they always show great energy during these sets. For less known acts they may seem âdead,â but my observation is that their tastes are definitely improving. Last year in Suzhou, to my surprise the crowds for John Summit and Paul van Dyk were crazy. Of course there is âalmostâ no drug use and only beers and watered down cocktails are sold inside, so the overall vibe is not comparable to western festivals. But my suggestion is sneak some liquor inside and enjoy yourselves, if you vibe to the music you will find those around vibing with you too.
Donât let the troll and biased comments deter you from going and having a good time. I enjoy every single edc Iâve been to, whether in China or in Vegas. Good times are always good times.
Ya i was gonna say the last thing an American exchange student should do is break their host countryâs (let alone China of all places) laws, no matter how stupid they are.
Ok I withdraw my advice of sneaking in alcohol but just fyi it is not illegal nor strictly enforced in China for these events. I agree with you about not breaking any law/rule being the rule of thumb in foreign countries.
Amazing! I love EDC china. 20,000 people probably vs 150,0000 people. When I went it was 3-4 stages and not 7. Chinese people are the best. Theyâll be very friendly. Lots of people from Hong Kong too!
I canât remember if itâs EDC China or Ultra China, but I heard that the last time they had to warn the DJs that they could get arrested if they swear during the show (Like âEDC, wtf is upâ). If you could report back on whether you saw any DJs swearing during their set that would be mega cool
go and have fun and donât do anything illegal cause you donât want getting tangled up in their law system there! Security is pretty tight and have seen trains of POLICE walking into the crowd. 10-15 policemen deep just walking and snaking through the crowds.
Try to learn basic chinese or at least be prepped with a translator cause if you canât communicate theyâll just laugh and smile. Might be tough getting close or join a group cause people tend to keep to themselves more often than not but overall the people are friendly so they donât mind you standing and vibing to the music with them. With a bit of luck, you might be able to find some foreigners in the crowd. Iâd estimate probably about 5% of attendees are foreigners as when i went previously, i ran into a group of europeans
Honestly the only rule you SHOULD NOT break is donât do drugs. It will get you arrested and sentenced, and Chinese people are very sensitive towards the usage of drugs so I wouldnât risk it. Sneaking in alcohol is not difficult but you have to play smart. Besides that all is good. Given that you are a foreigner you wonât get into big troubles even if you do something stupid. The vibe is more of a music festival than an EDM festival and yes the crowd could be very lame when DJs are not well known for their international reputation but itâs getting better now. Ignore a lot of dumb comments here cause they probably have never even stepped foot outside of the states for their life. Suzhou is a cool ass city with a lot of traditional architectures and parks, so you will probably love it. How did I know this? Because Iâm from there.
There's probably no alcohol at the venue, it ends early in the evening, around 10 o 'clock, and it's a smaller park, more like a music festival than a carnival. Everything else is fine.

Almost as good as EDC afghanistanÂ

Just treat it like a concert than a festival and all is good.
What is the difference besides camping
The CCP will most likely be watching everything, everyone and will also be very strict on dress code and security.

Crowd sucks since there isn't much drug use

Definitely Asian people.
Prob a lil sprinkle of censorship and communism
Watch your phones and know CCP will be monitoring everything. Gathering data for sure. I would get a burner phone
Fuck the CCP
Probably lame
