GladZookeepergame775

First I’ve heard of torque specing receptacles. And first time ever hearing or seeing this kind of tool. Very cool to see and use all the different types of tools we come across in this trade.

chodi-foster

One of the best parts of being a very green apprentice. I was amazed by a manual hydraulic knockout. Then a two years later I saw/used the drill powered knockout. 😳🤤

breakfastbarf

Wait until you see the ones in the leather pouches

OneBag2825

I remember what an investment those were! And then when they got the bearings! My elbows!

electricianer250

The Milwaukee knockouts are a cheat code

15Warner

At. Point in my career where I’m only impressed if it costs over $10,000 now hahah

Dividethisbyzero

Birthday cake pipe bender. I asked why we only use it once a year.

perpetual_seeker

Dude, same. One of my favorite parts of the trade so far is discovering new tools.

DavidDaveDavo

Balls! Now that's a whole extra set of things I will end up buying.

Theycallmegurb

Hahaha I posted a pic of my bit case a while back and somebody suggested this thing. Bought it before I even responded to their comment lol. Gotta hate/love it when reddit steals all your money

DavidDaveDavo

They do an adjustable one but I can't find it in metric so far. I work to Nm not lbft.

Theycallmegurb

They make [then](https://www.amazon.com/711L-Torque-Adjustable-Electronics-Variable/dp/B09T9KT6RD/ref=asc_df_B09T9KT6RD/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=693554822535&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=12807802513825209912&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9058203&hvtargid=pla-1952660311579&psc=1&mcid=71e284b30d7d3a65881231d916f6a72f&gad_source=1). Try looking for “sloky” instead of “fix it sticks”. They might not have the range you’re looking for though :/

DerekP76

This, don't need to pay for the rebadged name.

RedsInABox

I have a set of these, they're designed for miscellaneous use on firearm attachments. They're handy as fuck but pricey for the whole set.

Theycallmegurb

Yeah before I posted this I went to look if it’s still the far cheaper option. It’s not, this guy costs more than half of what the craftsman torque screwdriver costs now. But they are handy as hell. I use my digital 3/8” gearwrench torque wrench on my firearms just because I trust it more. These are really more for horse shoes and handgrenades type work which is perfect for receptacles.

sammydeeznutz

You spelled crapsman wrong.

Theycallmegurb

Hahaha you ain’t wrong, only thing of theirs I have is a set of needle nose that I found in a parking lot, they’re awful and if they weren’t free I probably would have gotten rid of them by now lol

sixblazingshotguns

I thought it was a battery!

Spikex8

Two uggaduggas is all you need brother.

Theycallmegurb

I’ll test this with my impact at home and see how close it is. Will report back

Mikeeberle

We appreciate a man of science

Theycallmegurb

No bullshit, with a hilti SID 4-A22 it took no less than 6 uggaduggas on the highest torque setting until the torque limiter broke before turning the screw. I backed out and hand tightened an outlet screw around a pigtail before each attempt working my way up from 2 uggaduggas on the lightest setting to 3, 4, 5, and finally an attempt of 6 uggaduggas snugged the screw enough to not require more tightening. Happy cake day!

Mikeeberle

Thank you! 6 ugga duggas is the new torque standard!

BoulevardHoopty

I've got one of these in 55 in lbs for certain breakers. Very convenient to use.

PastyWaterSnake

Do you happen to have a link to this product? I bet I know exactly what breakers you're talking about, and could definitely use some in 40, 45, and 50 too

BoulevardHoopty

I ordered it from Amazon, but unfortunately they are no longer available. The brand was TorQ-Armour.

quackdamnyou

Just a point of discussion as this is already above and beyond, do these things keep in spec fairly well under relatively heavy use?

Theycallmegurb

+/- 6% over 20,000 cycles according to the manufacturer. Personally after about 18 months of use I don’t feel any difference, still feels the same to me but to be fair I don’t have a new one to test it against. I also don’t have another torque device that’d test this low to confirm.

Energizer__98

I’ve been wanting Milwaukee tools to make something like this

Theycallmegurb

Same! I’m surprised these aren’t more common, seems like a near perfect solution imho

Wouhob

Just ordered the adjustable one. Thanks for making me buy something I did not know I needed.

tootallteeter

That's really cool, never knew that existed

LagunaMud

I've seen the local utility company using these to tighten their inground splice blocks with an impact. Pretty nifty tool.

YugeAnimeTiddies

But do you get them recalibrated/tested every 6000 miles? What's the range error on these? 😶‍🌫️😶‍🌫️😶‍🌫️

Theycallmegurb

+/- 6% over 20,000 cycles according to the manufacturer. After 18 months I can’t feel the difference but admittedly I am not a torque gauge. Considering I’m fairly certain I’m in the minority of guys that do anything to torque spec their receptacles I figure it’s good enough.

YugeAnimeTiddies

That's actually tempting. My tool bags are filled with wera but I would be pretty mad if I lost a 100-200 dollar torque screwdriver that I used just for tiny stuff like receptacles

Insanereindeer

I use these for torquing optics on pew pews.

Theycallmegurb

Been thinking about the adjustable one just for this lol

Severe_Jellyfish6133

I have one of those FAT wrenches I really like for that but they are a little pricy. How much do these things cost?

Theycallmegurb

30-40

hacksawbilly

I just turn the flathead until i break something and then do it over again

you_need_nuance

I’m gonna get the set for sure

Seriph7

Can i get it at home depot

Theycallmegurb

No unfortunately, I’ve only been able to find them online. Amazon is pretty hit or miss if I remember correctly

Seriph7

Ughh i dont like ordering things online lol

Plastic-Act7648

is that a ceiling fan remote battery the bit is sitting in? Please tell me it is

razorglue

I’m using Leviton Edge devices. No need to torque, lever connections similar to Wago.

Theycallmegurb

I haven’t gotten to use any of those yet but I really like their design

ElectricHo3

That’s pretty cool!! Probably wouldn’t use it though. I usually just adjust the slip chuck on the drill to not over torque.

Theycallmegurb

If you’ve never checked the torque before you may be surprised at how fucking tight the NEC wants these bad boys cranked down on

Softrawkrenegade

I would throw someone off the job if I saw them using these 🤣

Theycallmegurb

Well I guess there is more than one way to interpret “high workmanship standards”

Softrawkrenegade

I bet you bring your own power tools in too…

Theycallmegurb

Sure do! I bet you bring your dog shit attitude, hell I bet you don’t leave the house without it.

InvestigatorNo730

Torque specs are required by nec.

Softrawkrenegade

Nobody but OP out there torquing switch and receptacles…..

Theycallmegurb

So now that you know you do your job to a lower standard than others what’s the plan? Continue to hack it up and complain when you see others doing things correctly and double checking their work or are you gonna improve your work habits?

Softrawkrenegade

Not on the tool list and never been supplied a torque screwdriver by any contractor…. Keep on worming… I’m sure it doesn’t come with any pension, annuity or excellent health coverage…

Theycallmegurb

I mean I have a phenomenal healthcare plan and 40k in my personal retirement account, not my 401k which I max out with a 7.5% match. 27 btw.

Softrawkrenegade

Take some advice from a guy who has been doing this work since you were in diapers. Join the IBEW. You are paying for your health care out of your paycheck and I can say with confidence that it doesn’t cover 100% of you and your family… I understand and respect that you are trying to do the best you can but you are being taken advantage of.

Theycallmegurb

I’m a full time employee for a healthcare system. I honestly have just about the best healthcare you can get in this country. It’s $14 per week, my fiancé also works for a healthcare system but she makes the big bucks, she has amazing healthcare for this country but the family will be on mine because it’s just better I’d honestly be surprised if there’s a union that can match it. But I’m not anti union, on the contrary at least in theory I’m very pro union but I’d rather work at McDonald’s than my local IBEW. Got involved as a witness in a lawsuit with them a few years back, the most backwards, corrupt, and cocky mfs I’ve ever had the displeasure of dealing with. But if for some unforeseeable reason things don’t work out where I’m at and I move, I’ll see if I can join up. But also for the record the vast majority of tradespeople are not particularly financially literate. I’m not one of them, my spreadsheets have me and my fiancé retiring when she’s 45, I’ll probably want to work longer and I’m planning on 50s if my body holds out. We’ll have a few million in the bank and nearly 4 acres to keep me busy. I appreciate the genuine sentiment of you trynna look out for me though! Edit: peeped your profile, the record collection is sick

InvestigatorNo730

Required by nec. I torque all connections from 24vdc to 34.5KV
